Issue 2: A New Path pt. 2
"We got this right buddy." Rufus gave an enthusiastic nod to Ron as the teen clicked his utility belt into place. Ron took a moment to look himself over in his mirror. After being encouraged by Rufus to step up and try to stop Drakken's plan, Ron had decided that his normal mission clothes might not do. Ron had kept the black turtle neck that he usually wore, but had replaced the grey cargo pants and sneakers with a black set of cargos and black boots. He wore his usual utility belt, stocked with whatever gadgets he had on hand in his room and his normal black gloves.
Since Ron wasn't sure how long he would be able to last going up against all of Drakken's henchmen and Shego, he was hoping to take a more, stealthy approach to this mission. Ron assumed that since Drakken picked up the call at Bueno Nacho HQ that most likely that is where the controls for the Diablos were located. With some luck Ron was hoping that he and Rufus could slip in and shut down the Diablos and get Global Justice or someone out there to help wrap this whole thing up.
"Not too shabby, I guess. Just one last thing." Ron reached over to his bed and picked up a black piece of fabric which he then proceeded to pull down over his face. The mask which was a souvenir from his time at the Yamanouchi School left only the blonde's brown eyes visible. "Probably blend into the shadows better than bright blonde hair right buddy. And if I do get spotted maybe I can bluff them into thinking I'm some kind of ninja master and they'll just give up."
Rufus hopped onto Ron's shoulder and then Ron shut off the light and headed downstairs and toward the garage. He flipped the switch and illuminated the double stall garage.
"Hnk ike?" Rufus inquired causing the masked teen to shake his head.
"Much as I love the old girl Ruf, we need to get there quick." Ron then turned and plucked a set of keys off a hook on the wall and then turned and looked at his father's dark red sedan. "Good chance we can get it back to Dad in one piece right."
Rufus nodded. Ron gulped under his mask. "And if not, odds are I might not be in a shape that he could ground me in anyway."
At the Possible household doctors Ann and James Possible were standing outside on their front porch examining the large forcefield that had encased their home and trapping them inside along with their sons.
"Alright so we can't seem to get through this with any of the equipment that we have here." James summarized. Suddenly a rocket launched from inside the possible home with a deafening roar causing the couple to wince. Seconds later the rocket impacted with the field and exploded but caused no visible damage to the barrier.
"Nice try boys but no luck." Ann shouted back into the house to Jim and Tim.
"Aw!"
"Rats!"
"Hey maybe we can find,"
"Something more useful in the basement."
The sounds of the boys faded as they retreated further into the home. Causing Ann to rub her temples. "This is getting us nowhere James."
James placed a comforting arm around his wife. "It lets the boys feel like they're doing something honey. And besides maybe they'll be able to find a way through; we haven't been able to come up with anything yet."
Ann sighed. "I know but we can't even get a signal out James."
"I know but I'm sure Kimmie Cub and Ronald are already working on figuring this out." James reassured. "It's not like giant robots are something they haven't dealt with before."
Another sigh. "I know but something about this seems different somehow."
James gave Ann a gentle squeeze. "Come on let's see if we can give the boys a hand in building us a way out of here."
Back at the Middleton High School gymnasium everything was going perfectly. It was as if Ron's earlier interruption of the dance hadn't even occurred, at least that was the way that it seemed to Kim. Standing in the middle of the gym swaying in the arms of her perfect boyfriend Eric, nothing in the world could possibly ruin this for her. And maybe nothing would have if another of the couples hadn't decided to step outside for a moment, and then came bursting back in.
"KIM!"
For the second time that night everything in the gym came to a screeching halt and the lights came back up. Kim looked at the source of the disruption, a boy and girl from her class both looking shocked and frantic scanning the crowd looking for her. Kim's brows furrowed in frustration. "Can I help you?"
"Outside… It's… It's…" The girl tried getting out between gasps for air. Kim's frustration quickly began to change into anger; why was it that people seemed to want to step all over her night. Kim quickly strode through the mass of students whose attention had turned from the couple to her, she brushed past the couple and pushed the doors open.
"This had better be someth…" Kim was cut off as she took in the sight that greeted her just outside the doors. A large dome of energy was around the school grounds. Kim scanned the area looking for the source of the field and her eyes landed upon a figure that was just outside the dome. A large red robot was towering in the air and was emitting the field from its robotic arms, another quick scan around revealed another of these robots a few hundred yards away also powering the dome.
"Okay, this is definitely something." Kim jogged further away from the school and turned and looked over the top of the school building, she could see there were at least two other robots keeping the field powered and strong. Kim quickly began to collect her thoughts.
'Okay so someone sent a bunch of giant robots. They've put a forcefield around the school so that we're trapped in here. No big I'll get a hold of Wade and then…' Kim's thoughts trailed off as she realized that she recognized the design of the robots; she knew that she had seen them somewhere before but she also knew she had never fought any robots like these before. After a moment of nothing but muttering from the students behind her and the hum of the field filling the air it hit her.
'They look like those Diablo toys that kids have been going crazy over.' And that realization caused Kim's eyes to widen in realization and regret. She quickly sprinted as quickly as she could in her Prom dress through the throngs of students and back into the gym heading straight for the table that her purse was resting on.
"No, No, No." Kim pulled her kimmunicator out of the purse and began trying to contact Wade. But there was no signal. Kim gave the device a few smacks from her hand before banging it on the table hoping to get a signal from the device. Monique and Eric both cautiously approached the frantic red head.
"Girl, are you okay?" Monique asked.
"Does anyone have a phone that's getting a signal?" Kim shouted as she gave up on the kimmunicator and turned toward the other students and teachers. Kim got her answer when they all pulled out their phones and the looks of concern and panic that spread across the sea of faces gave her the answer.
"Kim what's going on?" Eric spoke up.
"What's going on? What's going on? What's going on is that Ron was telling the truth!" Kim all but screamed causing Eric and Monique to step back from the girl. Kim slammed her hands down on the table in exasperation not realizing that she was again the focus of the entire gym's attention. "He was here he tried to tell me… and I ignored him."
Eric stepped up behind Kim and placed his hands gently on her shoulders. "Kim…"
Kim turned to face her boyfriend, looking guilt stricken. "He was here Eric. He was begging me to believe him… But because I just wanted to be normal for one night, I completely blew him off… Something he never would have done to me."
Eric brought a hand up and gently cupped her face. "There was no way you could have known for sure. I mean the whole thing sounded so completely ridiculous right."
"Compared to the tings Ron and I deal with, it honestly isn't that crazy. How did I not see it, why couldn't I just trust my best friend." Eric brought his other hand up and gently lifted Kim's face to look at him.
"Well, I suppose I might have been a bit of a distraction for the last few weeks, huh." Kim let out a dry chuckle at that, as did Eric. Eric moved his hands from the Kim's face to her upper arms. "But then again…, that was the entire point of this."
Kim raised an eyebrow and paused for a moment at that. "Eric what are you talking about."
Eric smiled. "Actually, my father calls me Synthodrone number 901."
Kim barely had time for the shock to register on her face before a massive surge of electricity passed through Eric's hands and into the redhead. The entire gym filled with shocked and terrified gasps as Kim let out a scream as the current flowed through her. Even through her agonizing pain Kim was able to have one last coherent thought before passing out from the pain.
'Ron… I'm… Sorry…'
"You know Rufus this should be one of the greatest moments of my life." Ron whispered to the mole rat perched upon his shoulder. The two were crouched down behind the large sign proudly displaying the Bueno Nacho logo along with the subheading corporate headquarters. They took in the sight of the massive complex complete with a large sombrero over a part of the building and an entire wing that was shaped like a taco.
"Drakken is gonna pay for corrupting this fine institution." Ron noticed rufus giving him a look that seemed to say, really.
"Well, I mean, yeah obviously for the evil robot dominating the world thing. But besmirching the name of Bueno Nacho is still on the list." Ron took a moment to survey the grounds around the complex, noticing that there were several security cameras but no guards seeming to be on duty.
"I guess with Kim and GJ trapped in those fields the Drakken isn't too worried about someone coming after him. Problem is with all those cameras there's almost no way I can get in there without getting spotted." Ron leaned his head back against the sign and racked his brain trying to come up with some kind of solution that might work. 'Should have paid more attention at Yamanouchi.'
Ron let out a sigh before turning to Rufus. "Okay guess we'll try the usual. We walk in, you sneak off into a vent or something and try to find a way to blow up the robots or kill the signal, I'll keep Drakken distracted. I'll try and get to the control room and take it out but if I can't it's up to you buddy."
Rufus looked nervously up at Ron, not liking the idea of his human running off into this kind of danger without Kim there to help him. But Rufus nodded and put on a brave face for his human and nodded enthusiastically. Ron nodded back to him and after taking a deep breath to steady his nerves and then quickly moved from behind the sign and hurried to the entrance of the complex.
After walking through the door and into the lobby Ron whispered to Rufus. "Okay buddy let's get moving. We'll meet up in a bit."
Rufus scampered down Ron and headed off to find the closest air conditioning vent. Ron took another deep breath and then headed deeper into the complex.
"Uh, Doc…" Drakken turned from the screen showing the dispersal of the Diablo robots across the world to look at Shego.
"What is it Shego?" Shego pointed to the monitor next to that she had just been leaning up against as she read one of her magazines.
"Well, according to this there's an intruder in the building." Drakken's eyes widened and a look of panic came over the doctor.
"What I thought Possible was still at the dance? How did she get away without us knowing? How could she have gotten here so fast? When I get my hands on 901 I'll…" Shego raised a hand to silence her boss. Before pressing a key and then gesturing to the screen.
"I'm pretty sure that isn't the princess Doc." Drakken looked at the screen which was now showing camera footage of the intruder making their way through the complex. This was clearly a man dressed up in some kind of ninja attire. Drakken began breathing easier now that he realized that it was not his hated teenage nemesis that had found their way into his lair.
"Ahh, well that's a relief." Drakken sighed, while Shego simply cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Sooo, you're not at all worried that we got someone sneaking in just as we're about to take over." Drakken let out a cackle at Shego's question.
"Shego, we are professionals are we not. Some up start hero wannabe isn't going to shut us down." Shego seemed annoyed at the Doctors cavalier dismissal of their masked intruder. Drakken then looked at Shego with a wry grin on his face. "What's say to a friendly little wager Shego?"
"What kind of wager?"
"Well, we have more than a few defenses to keep our friend there busy and we have almost thirty minutes before the Diablos go active worldwide. Care to bet on how far he'll get." Shego looked back to the screen at the masked man.
"What are you thinking Doc?"
"We send down the henchmen. If he makes it past them, we send out the reserve synthodrones. And then of course there's you dear Shego. Personally, I doubt that this wannabe will make it past the henchmen." Shego put her chin in her hand and thought for a moment.
"Double my vacation time if I win." Drakken chuckled.
"Sure."
"Fine, I say he gets stopped at the drones." Drakken scoffed at Shego's choice.
"Really? Well, I happen to have faith in our tried-and-true henchmen Shego." Shego smiled.
"The one's that keep getting beat by a teenage girl, slacker and a naked mole rat?" Drakken again scoffed.
"That's not a normal teen. But fine I'll take the boys stopping him." Drakken extended his hand out toward his employee and Shego firmly shook it.
"Deal." They both said in unison. Drakken then reached over picked up a communicator.
"Oh, gentlemen. It seems we have an uninvited guest"
Ron slowly made his way through the massive lobby of the Bueno Nacho headquarters. Any other time in his life Ron would have been in seventh heaven being here surround by memorabilia of his favorite restaurant. Ron couldn't help but have his eyes drawn to a large framed phot of the original Bueno Nacho. 'Ah where all the magic began.'
Ron refocused his attention and kept moving through the lobby of the building. 'Okay with any luck we can get in and take out the Diablo controls before they even know that we're…'
"HOLD IT!" Ron whipped his head up to see that a dozen of Drakken's usual goons descending from the upper levels of the building on rappel lines. Landing in a large circle around the masked teen the overly muscled henchmen began pulling out stun staffs and laser rifles. Ron gulped hard under his balaclava as the largest of the goons began barking at him.
"We'll give you five seconds to drop whatever weapons that you might be carrying and surrender. Do it now and you won't get hurt." Ron began racking his brain for what how he could get past them.
"One… Five!" The head goon yelled out, as they all began to rush Ron.
Ron started to dodge as the first two opponents reached him with their Stun staffs. The teen quickly began ducking and dodging the swings. Ron managed to get his hand up and catch one of the staffs as the other goon got in closer to jab Ron with his. Ron noticed however and side stepped the lunge, causing the staff to strike and send a massive shock into the first goon. This caused the first to release his own staff which Ron then proceeded to jam into the stomach of goon who had just taken out his coworker. Both men fell to the ground unconscious, but Ron didn't have time to breath. Three more had started to rush Ron after seeing the other two go down seemingly so easily.
'Well, the best defense…' Ron thought as he sprinted to the closest opponent still holding the stun staff. The third goon was thrown off that masked man who had been acting defensive against the first two was now on the attack and raised his staff up in a defensive position. Ron got within a few feet of the goon before dropping to the ground and sweeping the goons legs out from under him. Putting him on his back and Ron quickly slamming the staff into the stomach of the prone man and shocking him unconscious.
Ron quickly spun and deflected a swing from the fourth goon's staffs and then blocking a blow from the fifth. While blocking the fifth's staff Ron swung his right foot as hard as he could into the side of his opponent's knee causing the man to let out a scream as he fell to one knee. Ron then took the opportunity jab the end of his staff into the man's neck shocking him out. Ron then quickly turned to block another strike from the fourth, just as he heard the leader of the pack shout.
"Okay enough of this, start shooting!" Ron's eyes widened in surprise as did his opponents at the sounds of the laser rifles charging up. It only took a second for the weapons to be armed and for the trigger-happy goons to begin firing on them. Unfortunately for the fifth goon his comrades were either horrible shots or just didn't care that he was in the way as he was peppered with, fortunately, nonlethal blasts that quickly, though painfully, knocked him out. Ron on the other hand was actually doing quite well at avoiding the onslaught of laser fire. The henchmen began shouting for him to hold still and muttering about how he was able to dodge the blasts seemingly so easily.
'Crap! Crap! Crap! What do I do? What do I do?' Of course, in reality Ron was mostly going on pure instinct and was racking his brain for a way out of this. Suddenly an idea struck the teen as he reached for a pouch on his belt all the while trying to avoid getting hit by the blasts. While still dodging the volleys of blasts Ron pulled out several shuriken from his belt and proceeded to quickly take aim and let them fly. Two of them went whizzing by their intended targets without so much as grazing them, the others were more precise.
One followed its path and imbedded itself into the barrel of one of the rifles. This caused it to explode the next time the trigger was pulled, the explosion taking out the goon firing it as well as his cohort standing next to him. Two found their way into the arm of one of the goons causing him to jerk back and fire two blasts taking out two more of the henchmen. The final shuriken lodged into the rifle of a goon who used it as a shield to avoid the sharpened metal.
Ron saw his opening and took it. He rushed forward toward the goon who was still stunned from shooting his two friends, and Ron then jumped up and delivered a powerful kick to the man's jaw knocking him out instantly. Ron then turned to see the last gunner pointing the rifle at him, before hearing a distinct clicking as the trigger was pulled. The shooter looked down and realized that the shuriken was jamming the gun from firing, he quickly pulled it out of the gun tried to aim again. Only to be met with a gloved fist to his face, knocking him back before Ron drove another fist into the man's liver putting him down for the count.
The head goon stood there somewhat flabbergasted and angry. This masked man had taken out his team in less than two minutes. Not to be deterred however the goon grit his teeth and then let out a loud roar as he shot forward at the masked man swinging his staff with all his might. However, his blind determination and anger caused him to sacrifice finesse for power. The masked man easily ducked under the swing before delivering a strong straight jab right into the goons groin. The goon dropped he staff and doubled over grabbing himself, just as the masked man rose up swiftly delivering a devastating uppercut to the jaw.
As the final goon fell to the ground unconscious Ron stepped back panting hard trying to get his breath back. The teen took a moment to look around the lobby at the bodies of the unconscious lackies, and had a moment of realization. 'I can't believe it. I did it! I actually did it!'
Ron's happy thoughts were quickly interrupted as a sudden crash caused the floor to shake beneath him. Then two large arms wrapped themselves around him lifting him up off the ground and crushing him back against a hulking body. Suddenly a voice cried out dispelling any questions about who had just grabbed him.
"I AM VENGENCE" The high-pitched voice of the sumo ninja echoed around the lobby as his powerful arms began crushing Ron. Ron tried valiantly to slip from the vice like grip but to no avail. Ron could feel his lungs beginning to deflate and he was unable to get any air back in them.
'Not like this. I can't go like this.' As the edges of Ron's vision began to blacken a desperate idea occurred to him. Ron hurriedly twisted his waist and hands enough that he was able to remove his hairdryer grappling gun from his belt. Ron tried looking down to aim but with the size of ninjas arms and his blackening vision he couldn't. So instead, he quickly guessed and squeezed the trigger hearing the sound of the grapnel firing and then a loud crunch immediately after.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" Ron instantly gasped for air as the sumo ninja released him. Ron landed on all fours on the floor. Looking back at the ninja Ron saw that the grapnel was firmly imbedded into the ninja's foot. As the ninja reached down to rip out the grapnel Ron quickly twisted around and delivered a powerful mule kick to the side of the ninja's knee. Eliciting another loud scream of pain, before Ron jumped to his feat and sent a roundhouse kick into his foes face. The ninja fell back onto the tile floor with a loud thud.
Still gasping for breath Ron whipped his head around the room and looking above him at the rafters and the higher levels. Assured that there were no further surprises waiting for him, pumped his fist in the air quickly before turning to the downed ninja and croaking out.
"Boo Yah mother f…"
While Ron was dealing with the henchmen and the sumo ninja Rufus was making his way through the vents heading in what he felt was the most likely direction of something important. After years of running around vents with Kim and Ron, the naked mole rat had developed a sixth sense for where he needed to go in these things. Rufus stopped at a long vent that he could barely make out at the end seemed to lead to some kind of computer array.
Rufus thought that looked like it was important and Rufus started scampering his way down the vent before stopping. Something in the back of the mole rat's mind was giving off danger signals. Part of Rufus thought he should go back and try to find another way into that room, but there was another part of Rufus brain told him that Ron was out there dealing with Drakken's people all on his own without back up.
Rufus steeled himself and started scampering down the vent toward the opening. When Rufus was about halfway down the vent, paused when he heard a small whining noise. Rufus cocked his head to the side thinking that he recognized the sound from somewhere before. It sounded like something was charging up. Suddenly Rufus panicked and tried sprinting toward vent opening that led to the important equipment, unfortunately he only made it several feet before the charging was complete and the vent was electrified.
Rufus let out a small squeak as he was harshly shocked into unconsciousness before the current died off. The last thought the mole rat had before passing out was 'Ron, hnk, sorry."
"Oh, come on! What do I pay them for!" Drakken ranted as he watched the security footage of the masked man fighting his henchmen. "I seriously need to revisit my hiring qualification."
"Aw, come on Doc they did their best." Shego said with a sly smirk on her face. "And hey, they just doubled my vacation time."
Drakken crossed his arms and grumbled for a moment before rubbing his temple. "Fine a deal's a deal."
"Aw, that's what I love about you Doc." Shego said wrapping an arm around her boss's shoulder and giving him a playful squeeze. "You may be a megalomaniac bent on world domination but you know better than to short change your best employee."
Drakken mutter some more but didn't shrug off her arm. He then reached over and pressed a button on the console, a second later a display popped up on a screen confirming the activation of the synthodrones. "Well, I'll be revisiting their holiday bonus this year."
Ron was now quickly but cautiously making his way through the complex. Ron figured now that Drakken knew that he was here he might as well prioritize speed more than stealth. Of course, he was trying to be careful to make his way through as he was sure there were going to be more traps waiting for him. As Ron made his way into an upper level he was stopped when he noticed that there were three shadowy figures blocking his way.
Ron stopped for a moment to take in the new threat before noticing their glowing green eyes. Which was a dead giveaway to the teen. 'Synthodrones!'
Ron then heard a whooshing sound from behind him and he turned and saw another three of the synthodrones blocking off any chance of retreat. 'CRAP! CRAP! CRAP! Okay don't panic. Think, think what can I do.'
The drones quickly began moving in on Ron just as Ron whipped his last two shuriken from his belt and sent them flying at the drones in front of him. The blades found their way into the leg and shoulder of two of the drones. The synthodrones continued on for a few more seconds before synthogoo began gushing from the new holes in them.
The third synthodrone stopped ad watched his compatriots seem to melt to the floor. The drone turned its attention back to Ron sprinting full speed a few feet from it, Ron then dropped to the ground and slid between the drone's legs before jumping back to his feet and continuing to sprint out the door behind it. As the synthodrone started to turn to chase after him it was immediately knocked off its feet by the three synthodrones chasing Ron from the other direction.
'Okay what now? They'll be up in a few seconds.' Ron darted to the railing of the balcony he found himself on and looked over, they were about eight stories up. Ron had an idea and quickly ducked back behind the door leading to the hall that he had just escaped from. Just as he had hidden himself the four synthodrones emerged from the door and quickly looked for a sign of where their masked prey had gone. Almost in perfect unison they all approached the rail of the balcony and looked up and down to see if they could catch sight of him. Had it occurred to them to look behind them they might have seen Ron in time to get move as he shoved two of the synthodrones over the railing. The two drones fell eight stories before hitting the ground hard enough to cause them to burst and sending their synthogoo everywhere.
Ron then quickly moved to try and throw one of the others over but instead met with a fist to his stomach. He doubled over from the hit and before he could recover, he was dealt a swift, harsh kick to his side from the second remaining synthodrone. Ron then rolled across the floor and bounced to his feet trying to get away but the two synthodrones were on him in an instant. Ron used all his years of experience dodging henchmen and bully's blows to try and keep from getting pummeled into a pulp by the drones.
Ron ducked and dodged for a few minutes all the while getting winded and letting kicks and punches slip through his defenses. Ron knew that he needed to find a way to end this as quickly as possible. After a punch connected to his face and spun him around to the railing. Ron took note that across the gap in the building were several offices with large glass window on a floor adjacent to the one that they were currently on. Ron decided then on a risky maneuver.
When one of the synthodrones came within reach of Ron he turned and grabbed onto the drone with all his strength and flung them both over the railing. As they began to fall Ron aimed his grappling gun and fired it connecting to one of the rafters in the ceiling and causing them both to begin swinging out multiple stories over the lobby. The drone was trying to free itself from Ron's grasp as Ron tried to aim their swing where he wanted to go.
At the apex of their swing Ron released the grapnel line from the gun and the two flew out over into the air before crashing into one of the large windows of the offices. Ron's planned worked as the glass shattered against the drone's body, as Ron had made sure that the synthodrone would hit first. As they slammed into the floor of the office Ron could already feel the drone deflating as the glass had shredded the drone. Ron then found himself sliding several feet along the now goo slick floor, until he slammed into the desk in the middle of the office.
'Can't believe that actually wor…' Ron's thoughts were cut off as he saw through the now shattered window that the final remaining synthodrone had taken a flying leap and was now coming directly toward the opening. Without a moment's thought Ron reached down onto the goo covered floor and grabbed a hold of several shards of the shattered glass and flung them as hard as he could when the drone was a few feet from the broken window. The glass punctured the drone that continued through the window before landing a few feet from Ron goo erupting from the drone and spraying all over the masked teen.
Ron quickly got up and looked out the shattered glass and to his relief saw no other henchmen or synthodrones coming. Ron stepped back and leaned back against the desk trying to wipe some of the synthogoo off of himself. 'Okay Drakken is getting my dry-cleaning bill after this.'
"Huh, have to admit I did not see that coming." Shego quipped as her boss seethed next to her.
"ARGHHH! How did my synthodrones fail. They were my latest top of the line models… well next to 901 anyway." Drakken rambled for a moment. Shego cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Oh, come on Doc. Where would the fun be in winning if there was no resistance at all." Drakken glared at this employee.
"The goal is taking over the world. Not taking over the world but giving someone a fighting chance at stopping us." Drakken rubbed his temples.
"Shego would you please get out there and earn your considerable pay and vacation time." Shego smirked and turned toward the door of their command center.
Back at the Middleton High Gymnasium things were looking very bleak to Monique Symone. After Eric had electrocuted Kim, Principal Barkin and a few other teachers as well as a few of the larger students like Brick tried to rush the fake teenager. Unfortunately, they had met much the same fate as Kim with Eric grabbing or punching them and with his electrically charged hands, he was quickly able to dispatch any resistance.
Most of the students from the Prom had taken the chance to flee even though they still had no chance of leaving the confines of the dome. Eric didn't seem to care about any of the other students he had only taken the time to restrain Kim with some kind of high-tech cuffs, as well as using some rope from the equipment room to restrain those who had tried to fight back. Eric now simply was leaning back against one of the walls of the gym keeping a watchful eye on Kim, who was still unconscious from the massive shock he had given her.
Monique was outside the gym in the school hallway, keeping an eye on everything through the small window in the door. Monique wasn't sure when Kim was going to wake up or if she would even have a plan when she did, Monique was trying to think of something she could do to help the situation. Despite her love of wrestling, she had never been one to try and get herself involved in Kim and Ron's adventures when she could help it.
"Monique?" Monique jumped at the sound of her name. She whipped around to find Tara and Bonnie both standing in the hallway behind her. Monique put a hand over her chest in an attempt to stop her now racing heart.
"Girl; you scarred the bejesus out of me." Tara sheepishly looked down at the floor.
"Sorry Monique." Bonnie then took the opening to speak up.
"What's going on in there?" Monique turned back to the window.
"He's just standing there watching Kim. I don't think he cares about any of the rest of us as long as we don't try and get in his way." Monique bit her lip watching as the synthetic teen kept an unwavering watch over her friend.
"Well, that's good for us at least." Bonnie said peeking through the window into the gym before noticing that she was not only getting side-eye from Monique but from her best friend Tara as well.
"How is that good for us?" Tara asked.
"At least he's leaving us alone. And besides Kim's the one who caused this whole mess anyway." Bonnie's response began to get a rise out of Monique.
"Shut it, Bonnie." Bonnie scoffed.
"You do remember Stoppable came in and tried to warn her about all of this right." Both Monique and Tara paused and looked at each other at that comment.
"Yeah; hate me for being the messenger but little miss perfect shot herself in the foot this time." Monique tried to focus her attention back on the window and not on the fact that Bonnie was in fact correct about that.
"Is there anything we can do to help Mon?" Tara piped in as she peeked through the window as well.
Monique shook her head as Bonnie came over and looked through the window as well. "That's what I've been trying to figure out since Eric managed to capture Kim."
The three girls simply stood there for several minutes with what seemed to be the hopelessness of the situation weighing down on them. Finally, to the surprise of Monique and Tara, Bonnie spoke up.
"Actually, I might have an idea."
Ron quickly looked around as he exited the staff restroom he had ducked into. Ron had taken a few quick moments to try and wash off as much of the synthogoo that he was able to, he figured that with his usual luck he would probably be slipping and sliding all over the place otherwise. After assuring himself that there was no one waiting to ambush him in the hallway he proceeded to jog down the hall until he reached the double doors at the end of the hall.
As Ron placed his hand on the door of the he heard something on the other side of the door that gave him pause. Ron strained his ears trying to identify the sound, it almost sounded like something smoldering. And then Ron noticed from the crack beneath the doors a bright green glow spreading across the floor.
Suddenly aware of what was about to happen Ron leaped back from the door as fast as he could. Ron was barely able to get back a few feet from the door when a massive explosion of green flames erupted from the other side of door, sending the doors flying off the hinges. Ron was barely able to dodge as one of the doors flew right by him. Ron stopped and looked at the doorframe which was still smoking and had small green flames still burning around it.
'Oh, no.' Ron watched as a silhouette appeared in the smoke and then the black and emerald clad figure emerged from the smoke. Shego stood with one hand on her hip, her right flaming fist held by her chest and a sadistic smirk on her face.
"Okay masked man, welcome to the big leagues."
That's issue (chapter) 2 of The Unstoppable Batman. This one took me longer to write than I expected. In fact, it was originally going to be longer but I figured here was a good spot end this issue.
Thank you to everyone who read and reviewed. I read them all and I hope you guys will stick around for more of the story.
And for anyone wondering it will be a while before Ron creates the Batman identity and suits up. When I was coming up with the idea for this story, I wanted to make Ron become Batman without him having the traditional Batman origin. At least that was a challenge I gave myself. Once we get to the point where he suits up, I'm confidant you guys will love where the story and the arcs for multiple characters go. It's just kind of a slow burn at first getting there.
Hope that you all enjoyed and hopefully I'll have the next issue done sooner than this one was.
