As the battle unfolded between the Dalek's and Sontarans, Sarah Jane and Sky had fled away form the battle. As they raced around to the far side of the hill, the sound of the battle echoed off in the distance, and a few bolts sent dirt up in the air close by. As the fear closed in around them everything seemed lost when a hand stretched out towards them.
"Ma'am." came the voice.
Looking up Sarah Jane caught sight of UNIT solider, tacking their hand they where helped up. They where then helped in to a Jeep and it took off, two soldiers where in front wile Sarah Jane and Sky where in the back.
"We have them." said one in to a radio "Where brining them back know."
Sky looked back as they war faded in to the distance.
"Where are you taking us?" asked Sarah Jane.
"To the head of Unit Ma'am." replied one of the soldiers "Your being expected."
And so they drove of.
They soon came up towards a UNIT base, they camp up to a gate where they where let in, soldiers where running drills and many where on patrol in the area. Sarah Jane and Sky where escorted out of the Jeep and in to a small office building, where they left alone as the soldiers left.
"What do we do know?" wondered Sky as she poked around the office.
There was little beyond the basics along side a few things on the shelf behind the desk. Sarah Jane was caught of guard by one off the pitchers hung on the wall, so much she didn't the hear the door.
"Do you like them?" came the voice.
Sarah Jane spun around to see Kate Stuart.
"There some of my fathers greatest feats in the service." Kate smiled.
"I knew your father well." recalled Sarah Jane.
"Yes, he spoke very highly of you, please sit." said Kate as she took her seat.
Sarah Jane sat down and was lost for thought.
"What is going on?" she asked.
"Were here to help you get back, to be honest you had what you needed form the start." said Kate.
"What do you mean."
"Sky, she's been your key to getting back home all this time."
Sarah Jane looked over at Sky who was still poking around and after seeing the two look at her came over to join them.
"So, what do I do."
"Well, that's simple just come with me." smiled Kate.
Sarah Jane got to her feet as she followed her out side.
As they moved though the base they entered a hanger and came to something long since held in the unit archives Bessie, Sarah Jane was caught of guard to see the old car ounce again.
"We can drop you off in this." said Kate as she climbed abroad.
"What really?" questioned Sarah Jane.
"Of course hop in."
The two climbed aboard and Kate started her up, a purr of the engine sounded and they where off.
Leaving the hanger they they entered a bright light and soon came out on to the streets o Sarah Jane was taken back as the Jeep transported the two of them back to her house.
"Thank you for doing this Kate." said Sarah Jane.
"It's nothing, after all. You have done far more then we know off."
"You know, I can't even tell how long it's been."
"Well it's almost over know."
Sarah Jane felt off put by Kate's comment, but when she looked at her it all faded away.
After the short journey they arrived at their destination, the Jeep stopped and Kate turned to Sarah Jane.
"Here we are."
Sarah Jane looked out to see a hospital not her house.
"Kate you must have the wrong address." she said truing to face her.
"No this is it." Kate replied.
Upon Sarah Jane looking back it was her house. "Oh silly me."
She thought.
Getting out she walked over towards the wall of the drive way and felt a swoon come over as she almost dropped. Kate caught her and handed over to two on hand attendants.
Laying her down in her bed she seemed out of it, then Kate came over and leaned over her. The lights flashed and Soon Luke Sky, Rani and Clyde where all gathered around her bed along with Kate.
"Mum." burst out Luke "We were so worried."
"What why?" asked Sarah Jane.
"Mr Smith called us when you fell over." added Sky.
"He alerted us all." said Kate.
"We were all so worried." Add Rani.
"We came right over as soon as we could." finished Clyde.
It soon came over Sarah Jane, she was laying in a hospital bed. The cold machines all around her, reminded her of what it felt like being upgraded, and to what she had been doing before the fall.
"I was looking over the version of Wizard of Oz I read to Sky, then I went to call you and." she said.
"You fell." butted in Luke cutting her off.
"But Mr Smith, called nine, nine, nine." panted Rani, still in shock.
"We thought something bad might have happened." said Clyde.
Sky gripped her mothers hand "Please don't go."
A rapping came form the door and someone stepped in.
"It's your doctor." said Kate. "Come on kids, lets wait out side."
So one by one they all parted and so the Doctor came around.
"I've looked at your chart Sarah, and it's not looking good."
"Sarah Jane." she corrected.
"Sorry?"
"It's not Sarah it's Sarah Jane."
"Oh, don't say that, you never minded me calling you Sarah before now have you."
Then the face came in to view as Sarah saw him plain as day.
"Hello Sarah." he said.
"Doctor, is that really you."
"Yes, yes it's me Sarah."
"You look so old, you regenerated again haven't you."
"Well that tends to happen."
"Why are you here?"
"Well you know how it is, besides why can't I just pop in and say hello."
"Oh Doctor, I know why you're here."
"And is that so bad Sarah, one last time to see you, I do it to everyone. When I get a chance and as much as I can. Not everyone is that easy to reach, take Joe I saw her off, well I will in this time I think, hold on what years is it?"
"Doctor." she called.
He came racing back to her side.
"Knowing you has been some of the best years of my life."
"Oh you can't say that, yes they where great, but raising Luke and Sky, that was the best years of your life, and you get to see them do a lot more."
"No I won't."
The Doctor's face soured.
"Oh Sarah, sweet Sarah Jane." he said as he sat beside her "Your to good, I'll send the kids back, this is time to be with family."
He began to leave when Sarah called out to him.
"Doctor, before you go, can you do this for me."
"Anything for you, my dear Sarah Jane Smith."
Stepping out he was greeted by the kids, all asking questions.
"Is see all right."
"Can we see her."
"What's going to happen to her."
"Luke, you're a smart lad. Don't let anything get in the way of you reaching for greatness. Rani your heart wants you to follow in Sarah Jane's foot steps, so follow that every chance you get. Clyde be brave, you're a budding artist and you got a talent don't be let others make you second guess that."
"But we already know this." said Rani.
"So why are you telling us."
"I'm just reminding you of what Sarah helped instil in all of you." he said "No go on say goodbye."
"Thank you Doctor." said Luke.
The three ran in but Sky was left standing looking up at the Doctor.
"I have not forgot about you." he said.
"What did mum say about me.
"You can be what ever you want, your roll has not yet been cast." he said as he turned to leave. "No I think your mum wants to say one last thing to you all."
Turning to leave the Doctor went down a corridor was gone, the sound of the Tardis rang clear though the halls.
