Authors Notes- Well, I'm back again with another chapter to Shattered Glass. As you can gather by now I don't own Transformers that belongs to Hasbro. I do, however own the plot. Now, that we got that out of the way here is Chapter Six. I hope you enjoy.
Raf was left alone once again. It had been days since the man named Agent Fowler had come to visit him. And in that time Fowler had told him something Raf normally wouldn't believe. A tale of giant alien robots waging war here on Earth. It seemed farfetched, like something out of an anime his sisters liked to watch. And yet it was true, he had seen proof with his own two eyes. And for some odd reason, Raf thought as he looked down at the book lying untouched in his lap, Raf wanted to be apart of it. Maybe there would be some way for him to help.
Why?
Raf had no idea why. Anyone else would have run away at the sign of potential danger and sure, he was worried about what might happen if he got involved. He then looked to the cast on his arm, his uninjured hand reaching up to touch the bandage on his forehead. But, he had gotten hurt even when he wasn't involved, so what was the worst that could happen? Raf shook his head if his mama knew what he was thinking she would hit the root, and his papa? He would confine Raf to his room for forever.
But the reason for his thoughts? Was that Agent Fowler had informed him that a Decepticon named Soundwave want to meet him. Him! A twelve year old nobody, a kid who, due to his intelligence ended up in high school far sooner than most kids his age. What was it that drew this Soundwave's attention to him? It didn't matter, something told him he needed to be apart of it. Nodding to himself he looked up as Agent Fowler stepped back into the room.
Perfect timing. Raf thought, as he looked up at the older man. "Agent Fowler," he said, gathering his nerves. "I've decided."
He had hoped that this had all been a dream. Jack thought, as his alarm went off. Signalling that it was time for him to get up and go to school. Jack sighed as he swung his legs over the side of his bed and then remembered that school was closed after the incident. Hell, everything was closed after that. And his poor mom? Was no doubt pulling an all nighter at the hospital helping to patch up all the injured. That brought another question to poor Jack's muddled mind, how many had been hurt? How many were dying? How many were dead? And the biggest question of all? How many more cities would be attacked? From what Megatron had told them was that these Autobots had waged wars against the Decepticons for centuries. And that the Autobots had taken over Cybertron.
And now they're on Earth. Trying to do the same thing! Jack thought darkly, as he moved downstairs to the bathroom to take a much needed shower. And me and Miko are involved. Like Jack didn't have enough crap to deal with like school, work, that bully Vince making his life miserable, and Sierra... This was all too much. WAY too much. Sure, Miko thought it was all SO COOL but Jack on the other hand? Hell, if he was going to be honest? He should have backed out when given the chance. And he had tried to but Megatron and the others had made it very clear that without a doubt the Autobots already knew of their existence, and would target them to get to the Decepticons.
So, for their protection Megatron had assigned their own guardians. Miko had been paired up with the somewhat reluctant Breakdown. And Jack had been paired with an equally reluctant Knock Out. And though Jack had never intended on eavesdropping on Megatron and Soundwave he found out that another human would be joining them. A boy named Raf. Jack couldn't put his finger on it but that name sounded familiar. And he would be partnered up with the silent, elusive, and quite honestly creepy Soundwave.
Turning on the water Jack sighed as hot water cascaded over him, relaxing any and all aches he had from the last few days. Now that school was closed until further notice Jack had a lot of time on his hands aside from the mountains of homework he had been tasked with. And as much as he hated to admit it, he really couldn't focus on school work right now. Courtesy of what happened. There was an alien war waging on his planet, and he and Miko were involved. This was not something he needed. Sighing again Jack ran a hand through his hair, eyes closed. Images of those Autobots Arcee and Cliffjumper flashing through his mind. Giving his head a shake he turned off the water, and stepped out, wrapping a towel around himself as he did so.
Stepping out of the bathroom Jack went through the motions of getting dressed, before moving to his desk where his homework sat. Opening his Biology textbook he bit down on his bottom lip as he tried to focus, just focus. His mom would have his ass if he let his grades slip. If he did then his mom would know that something is up. And there was no way he could tell her the truth. Megatron had practically pleaded with them to not tell a soul outside of the Decepticon base.
So, if he didn't want his mom to sense something was wrong, even though she probably would anyway he would put up a front so she wouldn't know something was wrong. He knew it was wrong, he and his mom had built a relationship on trust, and now he was going to be lying to her. But how could he not? What was he supposed to say? 'Hey mom, guess what? That attack a few days ago? It was the work of giant alien robots. Yeah... Like she would believe that. And Megatron had informed him that getting anyone else involved would endanger their lives further.
Jack tapped his chewed pencil against his textbook as he tried to focus but no avail before finally giving up with a frustrated sigh. Getting to his feet and begun to pace around his room. He needed to do something, anything he was going crazy. Maybe he would go for a bike ride, burn off some of this energy. That sounded like a good idea, nodding to himself Jack headed downstairs, and retrieved his bike from the garage. And stepped out into the hot Jasper air. Taking a deep breath Jack rode down the street. Thoughts of the Autobots and Decepticons soon forgotten.
Okay, she would admit it, Miko thought as she doodled in her sketchbook, a wide grin on her face. Coming here was the best idea she had in...ever. Sure, she had been a little reluctant, and she kind of regretted it at first. But now, now she was involved in a war with giant robot aliens. Sure, it wasn't the greatest thing to know, but now that she and Jack were with them things were going to get interesting. And Miko vowed she would do everything in her power to help them kick some Autobot tailpipe.
A wide smile split her face as she finished her drawing. A picture of Megatron beating the scrap out of those two Autobots she and Jack had encountered. The Decepticon leader looking triumphant with his foot planted on Cliffjumper's back, arms flexed, a wide, toothy grin on his faceplate. A true masterpiece if she said so herself. Leaning back in her seat Miko sighed, as she dropped the colored pencil down. Now she was bored. Resting her arms behind her head she glanced out the window of her room. It looked like another beautiful day, and she had nothing to do. Breakdown was back at the Decepticon base on light duty until he was deemed fit by Knock Out for active duty. So hanging out with him was out.
Hell, she was so bored she was even tempted to do homework. Yeah, right. She chuckled at that thought as she looked around the room. She could play video games... No, she wasn't feeling that either. Which sucks because she had meant to finally beat Tales Of Vesperia. And now she wasn't feeling it. In fact, all the things she seemed to love to do seemed dull compared to that had transpired in the last few days. Maybe she would go for a walk, even if there wasn't anything to do in this town it was still better than pacing a hole in the floor.
Nodding to herself she descended down the stairs, and stepped out the front down without a word to her Host parents. Closing the door behind her she walked down the street with no real destination in mind. However, as she got further and further into town she saw the aftermath of what happened. And that seemed to sap Miko's good mood rather quickly. A frown forming on her face as she took in the sight, debris littering the streets. Blood and glass staining the ground, and as she continued to look around she could see rescue workers working tiredly to clear the mess, and to save anyone who might be trapped in the ruined remains of buildings.
Sorrow gripped Miko as she thought about the people that had actually lost their lives to the chaos. Sure, she had found the idea of the Autobots and Dececpticons cool. But, even she knew this was a war, and that she and many others could get killed. At that thought anger soon replaced sorrow. Her eyes narrowing, fists clenched at her side, she vowed she'd make the Autobots pay. That she would make them hurt. Promising herself that she turned away from the destruction before her, walking down another street. She knew there was a park nearby where she could clear her head, she could spend her time there.
As she quietly walked down the street she could've swore that she could hear someone calling her name. When-
"Miko! Hey!" A voice called out once more.
Turning around she saw Jack riding up to her on a bike. Waving she smiled at him. "Hey Jack, fancy meeting you here, what's up?"
"Just out for a ride, you?" Jack asked.
"Just out for a walk." Miko said.
Soon silence between the two teens for a long moment.
"So..." Jack was the first to break the silence. "Where were you headed?" he asked.
"To that park a few blocks away, you?" Miko asked.
Jack shook his head. "Nowhere in particular really."
"Want to join me?" Miko asked.
Smiling Jack nodded as the two of them made their way to their destination.
This day is never-ending. June Darby thought, as she sneaked off for a quick, much needed break. Ever since the incident countless people have been coming into the ER with various injuries and burns. Some of them too injured to save, in fact it seemed that the number of people they had lost was double the number of people they could save. And it was beginning to take its toll on poor June along with all the other medical staff. They had been working non stop since this happened. And now, June wanted nothing more than to go home and hug her son who, by the grace of God was safe and unharmed. And then cry herself to sleep.
But she couldn't go home, not yet. June sighed as she leaned against the brick wall of the hospital she had worked at for countless years. A hospital that was now overflowing with patients, and all June wanted to do was cry. Hell, she even wanted a smoke, and she never smoked in her life, but these last few days were horrible. And on another was the incident itself. She couldn't put her finger on it, but something told her this was not a mere gas line blowing up. She had this feeling, a feeling that whatever was wrong it was far more sinister than anything she could imagine. She couldn't say why. Maybe she was just being paranoid, she was running on no sleep, too much coffee, and way too much stress. Sometimes it could mess with ones mind.
Of course, it didn't help that several of her patients she had helped had muttered something about metal monsters. At first she had thought that the kid, someone she recognized from Jack's school had hit his head, and was talking nonsense. But after a fourth patient mumbled the same thing she no longer thought that. But metal monsters? What could it all mean? Well, June had no idea, and if she was being honest? She really couldn't think about it as her beeper went off, signaling that yet more unfortunately souls had entered the ER. Heaving a tired sigh June tossed her empty coffee cup into the trash before entering the hospital once more. Hopefully this would be all over soon.
"So, what do you think?" Jack asked, when he finished talking, or rather rambling to Miko.
The girl was silent as she gnawed at her bottom lip. Her eyes glued on the small pond before them. "I think you're thinking too hard about this, Jacky boy."
"Don't call me that-"
"I mean I get where you're coming from but I think you're being too paranoid about this whole thing." Miko said. At that Jack glared at her, about to offer her a retort, but she cut him off once more. "I mean I understand you're worried about the Autobots taking over Earth. But that is so not going to happen. Not with ol' Megs and his crew to protect us." She assured him.
However, Jack remained unconvinced. Worrying at his bottom lip as he continued to look at her. "Are you sure about that? I mean they lost their planet to the Autobots, and to top it off, no disrespect to Megatron and such but the Decepticons seem to be at a disadvantage it would seem."
Miko frowned at that as she looked up at him. "That doesn't mean things won't turn out okay. That won't mean that Earth is going to fall to the Autobots!" She snapped. "They could pull through you just got to have a little faith."
God, how Jack wanted to believe her , but he just couldn't. He didn't mean to be negative but given all that Megatron had told them it just didn't seem likely. Saying nothing Jack looked away from Miko to stare at the pond, and take the serenity of the place. His eyes sliding closed. But, despite his thought he sincerely hoped she was right.
