Chapelle: How goes your plan of using former extremists as bait?

Mason: Eric Carter says he has a lead, it was actually his idea.

Chapelle: And that former ISIS bride?

Mason: She's on the internet carefully watched I promise.

Chapelle: I would hope so. Still I'd feel better overseeing this myself.

Mason: If you feel it's necessary.

Chapelle: Any word on where Jack Bauer is?

Mason: Not yet. We still don't know who fired on his plane in Cuba, but in that area it really could have been anyone. I said it was a mistake to tell him about Nina Myers being there.

Chapelle: She's an active threat against our country's interests, I assume you didn't specifically tell Jack to murder Nina. So what he did with the intel is not our concern.

Mason: If you say so sir.

Jamal and Eric prepare to head out. Jamal says goodbye to Kim first.

Kim: Please be careful Jamal.

Jamal: I will. I fully intend to come back, but we have to make amends for our past sins.

Kim: I know, but we also have a duty to raise our daughter.

Jamal: I will come back to both of you.

At the park, Jack Bauer tries to interrogate Heinrich Raeder, but so far he still professes ignorance. Tony Almeida and Laura Walker are with him.

Jack: I give up. Either you don't know anything important, or you won;t talk and I don't have time to waste. Laura, could you take him to CTU.

Laura: I thought you were worried about a mole murdering potential witnesses.

Jack: I am, but this man is a terrorist for hire, he deserves what he gets.

Heinrich: If you're trying to frighten me it won't work.

Jack: I'm fairly okay with that. There are some good people at CTU, I assume, and I have to trust someone eventually. If he wants to take his chances that his superiors won't try to have him killed, that's his business. Besides Laura, you've done more than enough for us. Just take him to CTU, give your debriefing, then you should go home to your family.

Laura: Thank you. By the way, where's Nina?

In all the confusion, Jack realized he hadn't seen Nina since Walker was shot and killed. Maybe she used this opportunity to escape, still fearing that Jack would kill her. Or maybe she was more involved in this than she wanted to admit. It was now just Jack and Tony on their own.

Split screens show Laura taking Heinrich Raeder to CTU, Jamal and Eric leaving to meet Kalil, Chapelle on his way to CTU, president Allen temporarily resigning the presidency.

Vice-president Keaton is officially sworn in as acting president under the 25th amendment. Among those watching on television is speaker Nathan Templeton. He hadn't expected this, for Carl Webb and his conspirators to blackmail him. But because of their action Templeton is now a heartbeat away from the Oval Office. Maybe this wasn't all bad, it had it's advantages. It was just after sunrise, maybe the sun really was rising on a new day in America.
