"This is Dr. Suzume Saito from the CDC logging in my first video entry regarding the Wildfire virus. Today's date is August 25, 2010. As of ten hours ago, Wildfire was declared a Global Pandemic. All international travel has been suspended and travel warnings around the country have been advised. This is just the beginning though, in the coming days, I suspect that all schools and universities will be suspended, and citizens to be advised to quarantine themselves at home and to go out as little as possible.

"This morning, Candace, Jenner, and I were in Toledo, Ohio. A conference was held there where a team from the La Biomedicine DDMI lab came to present the data they had regarding the virus. Not the bogus data they provided in the Risk Assessment report back in April, the bogus data in that report pales in comparison to the actual data.

"We are dealing with a virus that has a 99.9% airborne transmission infection rate. While the virus is dormant there are no discernable symptoms in people who initially contract the virus, it is only when a person dies or an individual is infected with the active virus, whether it's through a bite, scratch, or wound contamination, is when it all begins. The standard mortality rate is what began this disaster, as people passed away and reanimate, they then spread the virus by attacking the living.

"We took all the data we have been demanding for weeks and returned to Atlanta this afternoon to begin the lockdown.

"Candace, in her endless foresight, had the wisdom to put in a massive order of medical supplies, freeze-dried food, extra fuel drums for the generators, anything we might need she ordered several weeks ago. She probably blew a giant hole in the operational budget, but now is not the time to skimp. Better to have the supplies and not need them, than to need them and not have them. The final orders were delivered today, and we have locked down the CDC.

"Before we fully locked down the building, Candace asked me to go pick up the RV from the garage that was doing the retrofit to convert the RV from a luxury motorhome into a mobile operating suite and lab. It was interesting trying to drive that behemoth, I may or may not have taken a couple of mailboxes and garbage cans out in the drive to the CDC, but other than that it was an uneventful drive. When she asked me to do this, I was initially curious, but I understood quickly why she wanted to get it. In case of the worst-case scenario, we at least have a mobile base.

"The remodel was only partially complete, they completed converting the back bathroom into a small lab and the bedroom into a surgical suite. Candace ordered the Anesthesia Machine, surgical lights, defibrillator, vital signs monitor, EKG machine, Ultrasound, basically, any machine we may need she ordered. All the machines are in the dock, now it's a matter of installing them into the RV.

"Before I went to pick up the RV I went back to my apartment and packed up everything important. When I had everything I needed laid out on my bed it struck me how little I had to pack. It was sad to see that the only important items I considered taking with me were my degrees, medical license, three photo albums, and a couple of family videos that I had converted to DVDs, I was able to fill all of that into one bag. I packed a suitcase with clothes, toiletries, my vibrator, definitely couldn't leave without that.

"All non-essential personnel have been sent home and quarantine themselves, to wait it out. We have moved all operations underground in Zone 5, the Level 4 Biosafety containment lab has passed the final inspections and we are clear to go. There is no way we can even begin experiments on this damn virus until we can be fully assured that we do not cause an even worse mutation of the virus to spread.

"The reports are coming in endlessly now reporting incidents. I fully expect it to become worse in the coming days. As people pass away and reanimate and attack the living it will continue to multiply, there is no stopping this anymore. The only thing we can do now is work around the clock and develop a way to stop the virus from becoming active, to flip the switch and make it latent again. It took the medical community seven years to develop the first effective treatment for HIV. We don't have years. We have months, weeks actually, to come up with one, or else there is no reversing the damage it will cause. The world as we know it will no longer exist.

"The communications network has been fully installed in labs all across the world, there is no privileged information, no bogarting data, all reports and data will be shared. Hopefully, by cooperating like this and working together we can do this.

"This is Dr. Suzume Saito signing off."

Author's Note

Hello everyone,

Thank you for choosing to read my Walking Dead fanfiction. My original female character, Suzume Saito, is a doctor. I myself am not a doctor or even know anything other than pretty basic medical information. I conduct as much research as I can but there will be inaccuracies so bear with me.

The first few chapters of this story are short but they will grow much longer as we get further into the Walking Dead timeline. I am working on the TS-19 chapter and its at 17 pages and counting.

Please leave comment letting me know what you think and follow and favorite this work to join me in this story's journey.
