This is a sequel to Best Friend Squad, you don't have to read it but it is fun context. This is a fun pre-cursor to my inevitable Big Hero 6 Halloween fic, so look forward to that one.

If Megan had to choose, she liked Hiro better as her nerdy best friend than as a superhero. Unfortunately, the super genius had a hard time turning off his heroics.

Like when Megan invited a new friend to game night. To be honest, she'd known it would be a problem. Hiro only knew Juniper as a "Crime Dancer," he didn't know her as a sweet, sensitive, talented classmate turned friend. And he definitely didn't know her as a classmate turned crush.

Megan was still working through her complicated feelings about Juniper. Inviting her to game night couldn't hurt as long as Hiro didn't kill June, or vice versa.

Fortunately, Megan wasn't going to be mediating alone. Khary Ginger, Wasabi's little brother, had been friends with Hiro when they were kids and had reconnected with him recently after he and Megan had started hanging out. Khary had befriended Juniper right away and might be able to convince Hiro to come around. At the very least, he could probably get Hiro to play nice.

With the mediators prepped and the pizza ordered, the last thing Megan had to do was tell Hiro that Juniper was coming.

Hiro got there early for once, though not earlier than Khary who preferred Megan's home to his own.

"Oh, good, everyone's here. What are we playing?"

"Not everyone is here," Megan said.

Hiro's face crinkled up in confusion. "Who else is coming?"

"I invited a classmate. Her name is Juniper."

Hiro's eyes widened and he grabbed Megan by the arm, pulling her outside where Khary couldn't hear them.

"Juniper? High Voltage's Juniper?"

"Former High Voltage member," Megan corrected.

"Are you crazy?! She's dangerous!"

"She's not dangerous, she's a high schooler."

"A high schooler who is on parole."

"She's a good person, Hiro. If you got to know her outside of her past mistakes you'd really like her."

"She's nearly killed me more times than I could count."

"I'd think a genius would be able to count to seven."

"Did you count the number of times she's attacked me?"

"No. Maybe."

"Then you shouldn't be downplaying this!"

"Listen, Hiro. I really like Juniper. Like, as more than a friend. I know you know what that's like, please try to get along with her for one night?"

"Fine. But if she tries anything I'm calling the others."

"All of the others?" Megan asked. Khary still didn't know his brother was a superhero.

"Okay, everyone but Wasabi."

"That's just as suspicious."

"Okay, maybe just GoGo and Honey Lemon."

"Sounds like a plan. But nothing is going to go wrong."

"I swear, Megan, if Khary gets hurt because you have a crush on a supervillain I'll never forgive you."

Megan thought about commenting on how suspiciously overprotective Hiro was of Khary but since Hiro was already stressed she let it go.

"She's not going to hurt Khary, they're friends."

Hiro looked downright betrayed by that.

"Let's just get this over with."

Megan had known it would be a problem, but she was hoping she could still salvage game night.

Khary seemed unfazed when they returned, lounging on the couch, flipping through one of Diego's generic home magazines.

"Is June here yet?" Khary asked.

"Oh, she's June now?" Hiro scoffed.

"You gotta give her the benefit of the doubt, dude. Not everyone who has been to jail is terrible, just like not every person who is terrible goes to jail." He was right. The world would be a much better place if Deborah Ginger was serving time.

"Fair point. I will keep an open mind."

Megan wished she'd let Khary do all of the talking, as far as Hiro was concerned, Khary had never done anything wrong in his entire life. But she couldn't redo the convo, so instead she just sighed and moved forward.

"What do you guys want to play?"

"Not Just Dance," Khary laughed, "Juniper always wins."

"Do you guys just regularly hang out without me?" Hiro asked, a little hurt.

"Sorry, man, you're usually busy."

"Plus, you're paranoid," Megan said.

"I'm not paranoid, Wasabi is paranoid -no offense Khary. I'm just being realistic."

"I mean, it's not like Wes doesn't have good reasons to be afraid. And I get why you'd be scared of June. But you're safe with us, Hiro. I promise." Khary offered Hiro a smile.

Hiro took a deep breath. He'd been so hyper-focused on protecting his friends he'd forgotten it was a two-way street. They had his back too.

He didn't want to get sentimental so he stayed quiet, joining Megan to peruse her collection of games.

"How about this one?" He asked, picking up a silly party game that would group them in teams of two. "Me and Khary against you and Juniper."

He was offering her a chance to get closer to Juniper, but Megan had a better idea.

"Hm, maybe, go ahead and set it up. Juniper should be here soon."

Khary and Hiro began setting up the game and Megan went to wait by the door.

Juniper was right on time, looking excited about a casual game night with her peers. She craved being a normal teenager just as much as Hiro did. Megan and Khary were her escape as much as his.

"Don't forget that I invited my friend, Hiro," Megan reminded as they headed inside.

"He's not going to be weird about the crime-dancer thing, is he?" Most people were weird about the crime-dancer thing.

"Nah, he promised he'd be cool. Come on, we've already picked the first game."

"Oh, okay, what are we playing?"

"Truth or Dare or Trivia. Me and Khary versus you and Hiro."

"What? That's not what you said," Hiro protested.

"All I said was maybe. It'll give you a chance to get to know each other. The game is simple, you work as teams to answer trivia, and the team that answers incorrectly has to answer a truth or do a dare. The team that answers correctly gets to move forward on the board, and whoever reaches the end wins. It shouldn't be hard for a super genius. But you've got to trust your teammate."

Hiro forced a smile, "Let the games begin."

Fortunately, between the two of them, Hiro and Juniper knew most of the answers. Unfortunately, Hiro kept second-guessing June's input. Because of him, he and Juniper had to eat raw eggs, draw on their own faces (with Sharpies), and try to do a handstand (Juniper could do this one, but Hiro was still queasy from the egg and almost threw up). The next time they got a question wrong, they both requested truth.

Khary gave them a sympathetic smile and picked a card.

"What's your greatest fear?" Khary asked.

"I'll go first," Juniper said, shooting Hiro an annoyed look.

"I'm afraid that people will never be able to overlook my past and see me as the smart, capable, good person I am. I might not be all the way there yet, but I'm trying. Please let me try."

Hiro blinked in surprise, feeling like a moron.

"I'm sorry, Juniper. My greatest fear has always been losing any of my friends, the way I lost my brother. And there's so much danger in the city, I feel like I've spent the last year completely on edge. But not everyone who's done bad things is a bad person, and it's unfair of me to keep judging you for your past."

"I didn't know you lost your brother. I think I'd be on edge if I lost my family, too. Maybe we could start over?"

Hiro nodded. "I'd like that. Now, let's show these dorks what we can do."

Hiro and Juniper didn't win that game, but once they were in sync they did pretty well.

After losing with dignity the squad took a pizza break.

"What should we play when we're done?" Juniper asked, casually leaning against Megan as she ate.

"Well, I heard you're really good at Just Dance. Let's see if the rumors are true," Hiro suggested.

Juniper grinned, "Oh, you're so on."

Megan and Khary exchanged a look, both of them equal parts excited and scared to see what they'd unleashed now that Hiro and Juniper were friends.
