Prologue: Beacon of Hope

(Joint project with Darkrebellion04)

Man… monsters… gods… beings of all different shapes and sizes exist in this vast space of existence we call reality. Some live in peace, some hurt others, but it's through this labeling of good or bad that the people take up the will to fight, to survive, and to protect, and it's through this corrupt cycle… that will either save or destroy this world.

A serpentine dragon made of light was seen flying through the sky of a battlefield as it was dodging attacks from various humans on the ground, as all of the sudden, a large beam of dark energy blasted at it from the other side of the battlefield. The dragon looked in the direction the beam came from as the sounds of a galloping horse were heard on the surface of the battlefield.

The galloping stopped as a Kirin made of violet darkness was seen glaring at the Dragon, the Dragon closed its eyes before it fired a beam of light at the Kirin, the being of darkness retaliating with a beam of darkness fired from its horns.

The beams of energy collided as humans on the ground near the two wings were sent flying away from the generated shockwave.

All of the sudden, the energy from the attack spiraled upward and around each other in a double-helix formation, as they collided again, only with a larger than normal humanoid figure at the center of the point of collision. Then all of a sudden everything went white on the battlefield as a blinding light rolled over it, and everything beyond.

"It's… time." A voice echoed as a large legless bird-like figure flew forward with a loud screech.

"WAH!" A young girl's startled voice woke up as she had light drips of sweat running down her face.

She was a fifteen-year-old girl with silver eyes and black hair that possessed red streaks in it with peach-skin complexion. She wore a red shirt with a rose decal over her heart area and on her back, black pants that stopped at the midpoint past her knees, black boots tied up with red strings and white socks underneath them, and black fingerless gloves. She also wore a red hoodie over her shoulders and head with a long red cloak with her signature symbol emblazoned on the top of her hood.

This was Ruby Rose.

'What…. Was that?' Ruby wondered to herself.

"Hey, sis, you alright?" A concerned female voice next to her asked her.

Ruby turned to see a slightly older girl sitting next to her on the airship she was riding in along with lots of other people.

This girl had lilac eyes and long blonde hair that stopped at the halfway point of her back. She wore a yellow crop top with two lines crossing over each other in the center of it with a black jacket that had long sleeves and stopped over her midriff, a pair of brown short shorts on her lower torso, and black boots with thin over-the-knee socks on her legs.

This was Yang Xiao Long, Ruby's older half-sister.

"Wha- oh, oh right, yeah, I'm fine." Ruby assured her.

"That's good, cause we're just about to reach Beacon Academy." Yang told her with a smile.

"Really?" Ruby asked her.

"You'd better believe it." Yang answered.

"Attention everyone, this is your captain speaking, we'll soon be arriving at Beacon Academy, please return to your seats, secure your belongings, and be prepared to exit the airship upon our arrival." A voice echoed over the intercom of the Airship the two of them were on.

Ruby, forgetting about what had happened in her dream, became excited when the voice stopped speaking. "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!" Ruby said, jumping up and down in her seat excitedly. "I'm finally going to Beacon Academy! I can't believe that special program actually worked." Ruby muttered low enough for only Yang to hear.

"Yep, the best of the high-ranking Dueling Academies in the world… Beacon." Yang muttered.

Ruby was a girl born and raised on the island of Patch, and aspired to be someone who could bring hope to others via one thing…

Duel Monsters.

Ever since she saw various pro duelists fight it out against each other in Remnant's biggest dueling tournament, the Grand Nexus Cup Tournament, she always aspired to be there dueling against the best of the best.

She originally was to attend a middle-rank Dueling Academy referred to as Signal for two more years before she could enter Beacon officially, but luckily for Ruby, she was able to score top placement at Signal's Accelerated Dueling Program and earn a place amongst Beacon's new first-year students two years in advance.

"I can't wait to see who I get to duel and meet here! It's gonna be awesome!" Ruby squealed in delight.

(After they got off the airship…)

"Maaaaaan… the view from the city's got nothing on the view from up close." Yang said in awe.

"I know. Oh man, I cannot wait for the entrance dueling exams to get going! All the cards and strategies that people will use here, it's going to be awesome!" Ruby said, jumping up and down.

"Don't get too excited. Remember, even if you made it to Beacon, you've still got to make it past the entrance exams with a high enough score to make it in." Yang warned her. "Besides, now could also be a good time to make some new friends! You know, maybe even scout out the competition or something?" She told her.

Ruby sighed in annoyance, as Yang always wanted to try and find some way to have her make some new friends, which she doesn't blame her for, she just found that dueling was a better way to do so, rather than just talking. "Dang it, Yang. You sound like dad." Ruby complained. "Come on, why is it that I can't just hang with you?" Ruby asked her sister.

"Oh, ummm, that'd be because some friends of mine are here. So I've got to hang with them for a while." Yang made the excuse as a herd of people appeared behind her. "LATERS!" Yang gave her temporary farewell to Ruby as she left her sister in a daze and in the dust.

"Wait, hang on! Where are we supposed to go?! To our dorms? We are supposed to go to our dorms, right? Do we even HAVE dorms right now?" She asked with swirls in place of her eyes as she toppled over and knocked into someone's luggage.

"AH, MY STUFF!" A loud, bratty voice exclaimed as Ruby got her bearings straight as she looked up and saw a girl fuming with a red-faced expression in front of her.

She had snow-white hair and light-blue eyes. She wore a blue denim jacket, with a white minidress that had black ornate snowflake designs scattered around it, and white boots with black interior colors. And she had a white and black purse hanging by her side with a snowflake emblem dangling on the side of it.

"Oh, oh my gosh." Ruby realized what had happened as she got back onto her feet. "I'm so, so sorry about knocking into your stuff, I didn't mean for th-" Ruby's apology was cut off by the girl whose luggage she bumped into.

"I don't wanna hear it, I've got stuff in these cases that are worth more than your entire house!" She snapped.

"I'm really, really sorry about all of this! Honest!" Ruby apologized again.

The girl barely acknowledged it, however. "Sorry?! Don't you realize the damage you could have caused to my stuff?! these things are priceless, I'll have you know!" She told her. "And what are you doing here anyway? Aren't you a bit young to be in a Dueling Academy like this one?" She asked her.

That made Ruby bare her teeth. "I said I was sorry, Princess! What more than that could you possibly want?!" Ruby snapped angrily at the girl while gritting her teeth in an aggressive manner.

The girl then recoiled in shock when she snapped at her, not from the choice of words, but from the fact that she could make out Ruby's eyes flashing red for a slight moment.

"Heiress, actually." A calm voice said, defusing Ruby and Weiss's anger and slight fear as they looked to the source of the voice with a raised eyebrow.

The calm voice came from a girl who had black hair and amber eyes. She wore a gray shirt under a black jacket with a pair of pockets that had custom-made white flame-like emblems on each side of her hips, and black long pants with torn holes in the legs at different heights. She was also wearing a black suede newsboy hat on top of her head.

"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, the largest company that handles Dust shipment and production in the world." The calm girl identified the white clothing clad girl.

"Finally! Some recogni-" The girl, now known as Weiss, was interrupted when the girl continued.

"The same company that's notorious for having rumors of questionable business practices and shady business partners circulating around it all the while." The calm girl added before going silent.

"Wha…?! B-but… I-I never… Hmph!" Weiss stuck her nose up in the air as she picked up her luggage and walked off with suppressed rage in her step.

"Whoa, ummm… Thank you for th-" Ruby tried to thank the calm girl, but soon saw her walking off in the direction of Beacon Academy. The fact that Ruby was alone again made her pout in slight sadness. "Dang it… Welcome to Beacon, I suppose..." Ruby muttered.

"Thank you for saying that to me, hehe." A male voice said to her.

She looked to her side and saw a blond guy with blue eyes walking towards her. He wore a black hoodie with a trio of yellow dots on the center of his chest and near his waistline with pockets in the center of the lower dots. And blue jeans on his lower torso with white sneakers on his feet. He also was lugging around a black and white-rimmed briefcase in his right hand. "Nice to meet you." He said to Ruby.

(Ten minutes later…)

(BGM: Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V OST 1 - 14 - Busy Daily Life)

"Soooo… What's your name?" The blonde asked Ruby awkwardly.

The duo of Ruby and the blonde were wandering around the academy campus, looking for the main assembly hall.

"Oh, ummm, my name's Ruby Rose, what's yours?" Ruby asked the blonde.

"Name's Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love it." The blonde, now known as Jaune, answered while shooting a wink at Ruby.

Ruby wasn't buying the cool guy act, however. "Do they now?" Ruby asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Ye- Well, n- I mean, my mom said that… Oh, forget I said anything except my name." Jaune sighed in slight defeat.

"Soooo… how did you get into Beacon Academy?" Ruby asked Jaune in an attempt to break the ice.

"Oh, ummm… I got into Beacon from a middle-ranked Dueling Academy, Nova, just barely admittedly." Jaune said with a dejected tone in his voice by the end of his sentence.

"Really?" Ruby asked.

"Yep, lowest of the graduating students. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I got kicked out of Beacon come the entrance exams." Jaune said with little confidence in his voice.

"Hey, don't be like that. You never know, you might just surprise yourself and get in at a high ranking, you know?" Ruby remarked.

"Eh, I doubt it, honestly." Jaune told her. "But it's nice knowing that someone believes in me on that front." He said, smiling at Ruby.

"Don't mention it, so… what's your dueling style like?" Ruby asked awkwardly.

"Oh, ummm… Well, it's mainly focused around the usage of Synchro monsters and Warrior-types. You?" Jaune asked Ruby.

"Well, it's primarily focused around an archetype called the Huntress archetype. To be honest here, this deck is one given to me by my parents, alongside my ace card." Ruby searched through her deck and pulled the card in question out and showed it to Jaune.

Jaune's eyes widened at the card she was showing him right. "Vermilion-Eye Goldblaze Firebird? Never heard of that card before. Where'd you get it?" He then asked.

"Oh, well… I got it from-" Ruby paused as she tried to find the answer to the question. "I… ummm…" Her eyes widened at the sudden realization. "I don't remember." Ruby answered.

(End BGM)

"You don't remember?" Jaune asked.

"It's weird actually. I know that this card's been with me all my life, but at the exact same time…" Ruby trailed on as she suddenly remembered what had transpired in her dream while she was on the airship. "Now that I think about it…" Ruby wondered in her head. 'How DID I get this card anyways?'

The two were broken out of their thoughts when a bell of some kind rang out through the academy campus. "Oh no, that must be for the first-day assembly! COME ON!" Jaune panicked as he booked it to the assembly hall.

"I'm right behind you!" Ruby exclaimed as she ran after him. 'Maybe I'll think about it later…' She thought as she kept running after him.

Ruby and Jaune were able to make it in time for the assembly as tons of students were gathering in the hall itself. "Thank god." Jaune gasped for air.

"We… we made it!" Ruby squeaked out while also trying to catch her breath.

"Ruby, over here! I saved you a spot!" Yang exclaimed from further into the crowd.

''Oh! I gotta go now! I'll see you after the ceremony, Jaune!" Ruby waved to him before walking to be with her sister.

"Huh? Wait, bu-" Jaune grumbled to himself as he was left alone again. "Oh, great… NOW, where am I going to find a nice, kind, and quirky girl to talk to…?" Jaune sighed as he turned around to grumble to himself…

Only to find a young lady with bright red hair, an orange shirt with white stripes on it, and black slightly torn tight jeans with a red sash wrapping around her waist. She also had a black and red backpack on her back, carrying what he assumed was a bunch of stuff. "Maybe… I could fill the void?" The girl jokingly asked him.

"How's your first day going so far, little sister?" Yang asked Ruby.

"Oh, you must be talking about after you ditched me at the airship docks and I got knocked into someone's luggage."

"What exactly happened, if that's true?" Yang asked with a raised eyebrow.

"All I know is that I got knocked into some crabby girl's luggage, then she screamed at me, and I apologized, and I just wanted her to STOP YELLING AT ME!" Ruby went on until…

"YOU!" Weiss appeared behind her with an angry expression as Ruby leaped into her half-sister's arms.

"Oh gods, it's starting again." Ruby said with a whimper.

"You're just lucky I'm not forcing money out of you or anything like that!" Weiss told her with a snobby look on her face.

"Oh my gosh, what you said actually happened." Yang worried that her sister had gotten off on the wrong foot with someone.

"It was an accident, I swe-" Ruby spoke until Weiss cut into her speaking again.

"I don't want to hear it, I'm honestly surprised that someone as irresponsible looking as you managed to weasel their way into the finest Dueling Academy in the world." Weiss snapped at her with her hand on her hip.

That suddenly got Ruby to feel anger bubbling up inside of her "... What?" Ruby said as her hair covered her eyes slightly.

(BGM: Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V OST 2 - 14 - A Duelist's Secret Feelings (0:00 - 1:14))

"You heard me. I said th-" Weiss was abruptly cut off when Ruby suddenly grabbed her shirt collar, the younger girl forcibly brought her close to her face, giving Weiss a clear view into her eyes.

Her eyes were burning red with anger. "What did you say about me WEASELING my way into this academy?!" Ruby practically snarled at Weiss, who was soon fearing what could happen.

"R-Ruby! What are you-" Yang was going to ask Ruby to stop until a voice came from the stage in the assembly hall. "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen." The voice greeted, being a stern female variety.

"Ruby, the assembly is starting…" Yang said as she tried to calm down her younger half-sister, while also hoping that she could at least try to quickly defuse the situation before it could get any worse.

Luckily, Ruby decided to heed Yang's words as she started to calm down and loosen her grip on the heiress. "Tch. Consider yourself lucky that I'm letting you off easy for now." Ruby clicked her tongue in annoyance while releasing Weiss from her grasp, both her and even Yang shocked at how she acted at that moment. They had also noticed that her red eyes were starting to fade back to their normal silver color.

The moment Ruby released Weiss, the heiress turned her back as she walked away from the half-sisters in silence, clearly shaken by the outburst.

(End BGM)

At the stage of the main assembly hall, a woman stood in front of a microphone. She had light blond hair, green eyes under a pair of glasses, and wore attire that consisted of a violet suit-like top with long sleeves and a black skirt on her lower torso, dark see-through leggings, and black heels; she also had a green jeweled pendant attached to her neck. "For those who are unaware of who I am, I am Glynda Goodwitch, vice headmistress of Beacon Academy. And you all are here to become the best duelists this generation is able to produce, but before we can even begin to do so, we shall hear some words from the headmaster of Beacon himself."

After she stepped away from the microphone, another person walked up to the mic. This person was a man wearing a dark green suit, with a green scarf wrapped around his neck, held together by a gray cross-shaped clip. "Hello, my name is Ozpin, professor and headmaster of Beacon Academy, and I'll… keep this brief." He stated.

"You have traveled from beyond this kingdom's borders in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you finish, you plan to dedicate your life to finding new things to discover in yourself. However… I look amongst you all, and all I find is wasted energy, in need of proper guidance, purpose, and direction. You assume it's knowledge that will free you of this, but your time at this school will only show that knowledge can only carry you so far. All I say now is that it's merely up to YOU to take that first step." Ozpin finished his speech as Glynda took his place in front of the mic.

"You will be escorted to the initiation grounds in approximately two hours. In that time, you will gather the things that you'll need for your entrance duel and wonder how you will go about the strategies you'll use. Use this time wisely. You're dismissed until further notice." Glynda told everyone.

"Well… that really set the mood…" Yang said, slightly forgetting Ruby's outburst towards Weiss for a moment.

"Let's go." Ruby said. "We've got a duel to win." She stated with conviction in her voice.

Yang was worried as she'd never seen Ruby act like this before. 'Something's up here, and I've GOT to figure out what it is.' She thought with determination.

(Two hours later, at the Dueling Arenas…)

Ruby was making some last-minute preparations in a locker room of some kind alongside some girls as the entrance duels were held in special arenas in a five duels-at-one-time format. Yang was watching her sister while making her preparations, while Weiss was further away, making sure not to make eye contact with Ruby should she provoke her wrath.

"Okay, if I use this card, and pair it with this Spell Card, I should be able to maximize the amount of destruction the opponent feels." Ruby muttered to herself.

A sound came over the intercom in the locker room as everyone in it looked up. "Will all Duelists report to the bleachers in the Dueling Arenas? Repeat. Will all Duelists report to the bleachers in the Dueling Arenas?" The voice sounded similar to Glynda's, but that didn't matter to Ruby as she picked up her cards and headed for the designated location.

A little bit later, the bleachers were eventually flooded with new students, waiting for their entrance duels. "So… you ready for the entrance duels?" Yang asked her sister, as the two of them were sitting next to each other.

"You know it! No need for small talk or "getting to know you" junk. From here on, I let my deck and dueling skills do the talking. Hehehehe~..." Ruby said.

"Well, Ruby, you know that this academy thrives off of connections with other people. If you're gonna make it in this academy, you're gonna have to talk with others and make new friends, at SOME point." Yang emphasized.

Ruby groaned at the mini-lecture Yang gave her. "Ugh, you sound just like dad! For the record, what does meeting people have to do with dueling? And secondly, I don't need people to help me grow up. I. Drink. Milk." Ruby told her half-sister as she crossed her arms.

"Ahem…" A voice from the center of the dueling arenas said to get the attention of everyone in the area. "Thank you for your undivided attention." The voice of none other than Ozpin said.

"Now then, permit me to explain how these duels will be held." Ozpin said as he walked in the center of the area where a bunch of dueling arenas was. "In order for you to make it into Beacon Academy, you must score a high-enough grade by the end of a 30-minute time limit, or win a duel against one of the second-year students here at Beacon. You will also be able to choose which deck you'll be up against, whether it'd be your opponent's personal deck, or a specially-made Beacon Academy deck provided to your opponent." Ozpin stated. "Your score and what it will be by the end of the thirty-minute time limit will be determined by a variety of variables, how many life points you have, what strategies you use, how well you handle the pressure of the duel itself are only a few variables that are in place here." Ozpin continued as he heard muttering amongst the people in the bleachers. "We shall duel with the most up-to-date dueling format. Aside from everything stated here right now, all I've left to say is… good luck, and stay sharp." Ozpin said as he walked away from the middle of the dueling arenas and Glynda took his place.

"Will the duelists I name please come to the dueling arenas in which I call them." Glynda asked. "Mina Cherry to Arena #1, Zackery Axel to Arena #2, Yuna Skye to Arena #3…"

(One hour later…)

After the dueling had wrapped up for most of the students, many were able to win their duels and get in, while some were unable to win their duels and got in only because of the points system involved with the entrance duels.

The latest duel involving Yang had just finished up as Yang's opponent was on the ground kneeling. "OH YEAH, BABY! Yang Xiao Long for the win!" Yang celebrated her win against her opponent as she skipped off the arena in glee.

"And with that, we've reached what will be our last duel." Glynda announced. "May Ruby Rose and Frei Pyre step up to Arena #1, please?" She stated as Yang sat near Ruby.

"Knock 'em dead, sis." Yang said to her sister as she sat next to her.

"Thanks, Yang." Ruby thanked her sister as she got up from her seat and walked towards the designated arena.

As Ruby stepped up the arena, he heard an abnormally young voice talk to her from the opposing side. "So you're my opponent, huh?" A young boy's voice asked from the other side of the arena.

The boy seemed to be about 15-years-old, with light blue hair on the right side of his head curving behind his head and the left side having very thin and black hair, alongside a pair of emerald green eyes. He wore a gray shirt with a black cape flowing behind him, and navy blue shorts on his legs, followed by black sneakers on his feet and blue fingerless gloves on his hands. His duel disk on his left arm was blue as well.

"What's your name, miss?" The boy asked Ruby.

"The name's Ruby, Ruby Rose!" Ruby answered the boy.

The boy smiled and laughed a little. "Nice name. I'll try my best to remember that." The boy responded with a smile. "The name's Frei Pyre. And as your opponent, try to remember that I will not go easy on you." Frei told her, before raising up two deck cases in both his hands. "So, which deck will you choose? My personal deck?" Frei looked to his right hand. "Or my Beacon-given test deck? Make your call, buddy." He told her.

"Ummmm… I think I'll go with… your personal deck." Ruby answered, pointing to the deck case held in his right hand.

"Oh? A challenge then? Alright then, shall we begin." Frei asked, putting the deck from the right case into his Duel Disk.

"Right." Ruby responded. As Glynda stepped in between them.

"As per the rules of the duel's beginning, the second-year student shall take the first turn. May this be a good duel between the two of you." Glynda stated as she walked to the side of the arena and walked to the perimeter near the bleachers.

"DUEL!" Ruby and Frei shouted together.

Turn #1: Frei Pyre

Ruby Rose: 4000 LP (Hand = 5) vs. Frei Pyre: 4000 LP (Hand = 5)

(BGM: Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal - Rival)

"Let's start with a bang! To begin my turn, I'll summon Nucleactive Shocktrooper, Turex in Attack Mode." Frei placed a card onto his Duel Disk as a blue portal opened up in the ground in front of him.

Out of the portal came a humanoid soldier covered in blue glowing body armor with a blue helmet that had a black visor over its eyes. It was carrying an assault rifle in its arms as it cocked it, ready for battle.

"And now that Turex is on the field, I can use its special ability! By discarding one card from my hand, I can inflict 500 ATK damage to you right off the bat." Frei discarded a card from his hand as Turex took aim at Ruby. "FIRE AWAY, BIG GUY!" Frei shouted as Turex pulled the trigger on its rifle and fired a barrage of bullets at Ruby.

"AAAAAAAHHH!" Ruby shrieked in pain as she felt the pain from the bullets making their mark.

Ruby Rose's LP: 4000 - 500 = 3500

"But why stop at just one ability? Since the card I discarded was a monster, Nucleactive Guardian Eagle can swoop right onto the field straight from my Graveyard." Frei smirked as the card in question slid out of his Duel Disk's graveyard slot. "Come on out, Guardian Eagle in Defense Mode!" Frei ordered.

Another portal opened up beside Turex as a blue eagle with glowing blue wings soared out of it, it had red eyes, and silver claws on its feet.

"I set one card face-down and I'll call it there." Frei stated as he ended his turn.

Turn #2: Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose: 3500 LP (Hand = 5+1) vs. Frei Pyre: 4000 LP (Hand = 2)

"It's my turn then. I draw!" Ruby declared as she drew her card. She looked at her hand and thought about what to do, until she had an idea.

"I summon Shadow Crossbow Huntress - Marle in Attack Mode!" Ruby stated as she slapped the card onto her Duel Disk.

A blue portal opened up in front of her as a human-like monster leapt out from it. Marle was a 18 year old human-like monster with a purple and black skin-tight full bodysuit with the emblem of a skull with an targeting reticle embedded into it over her heart area, and attached to her right arm was a crossbow with an energy arrow loaded onto the firing mechanism.

"And since I control a Huntress monster on my field, I can Special Summon this other monster to my field. Come on out, Plasma Pistol Huntress - Erika!" Ruby placed another card onto her Duel Disk as another monster appeared on the field next to Marle.

This monster seemed to be about 15 years old, with a light green and blue tunic with brown combat gloves and boots on her hands and feet with a green emblem of two lightning bolts crossing against each other present on her right boot, and in both her hands, she was wielding her weapons of choice, a pair of plasma pistols. She spun them around in her hands as she pointed them at Frei's monsters.

"Now that Erika is on the field, I've got everything I need to bring down your defense." Ruby declared.

"Huh?" Frei wondered what she meant by that.

"I activate the Spell Card, Huntress Gale Strike Tactic." She played the spell in question as the card revealed itself on the field.

It depicted the image of Erika pointing her pistols at a humanoid soldier-like being while a tornado of winds was forming underneath her.

Huntress Gale Strike Tactic

Quick-Play Spell

"With this card's effect, I can have a Huntress monster on my field gain 800 Attack Points until the End Phase, and then when that monster destroys another by battle, you take 400 points of damage." Ruby explained.

"Oh shoot..." Frei muttered as he realized what she was aiming for.

Erika had a strong gale of wind swirl behind her as she had a yellow aura surrounding her.

Plasma Pistol Huntress - Erika ATK: 1400 + 800 = 2200

"But before she attacks, I'm having Marle strike at you. Because thanks to her ability, she can attack you directly at the cost of halving her Attack Points." Marle had a purple aura form around her as she took aim at Frei himself.

Shadow Crossbow Huntress - Marle ATK: 1800 - 900 = 900

"And FIRE!" Ruby ordered as Marle took the shot.

The arrow pierced through Frei's person as he stumbled back from the pain. "Dang it, that kinda hurt." Frei muttered in pain, but with a smile on his face. "Now this duel's getting somewhere." He said.

Frei Pyre's LP: 4000 - 900 = 3100

Shadow Crossbow Huntress - Marle ATK: 900 + 900 = 1800

"Now for Marle's other effect, when she inflict battle damage to you, one face-up card on your field…" She looked at Frei's eagle. "Goes bye-bye." Ruby said as Marle fired a duo of arrow shots at Nucleactive Guardian Eagle, when this hit the eagle in question, it shattered into a yellow dust.

"DEFENDER EAGLE!" Frei shouted.

"Erika's attack is up next, attack Nucleactive Shocktrooper, Turex!" Ruby ordered as her monster charged forward with wind carrying her every step. "Gale Plasma Rain!" Erika rained fire onto Turex with her pistols as the monster was riddled with holes, causing it to shatter from the impact.

Some of the shots made their way to Frei as he braced for impact. "AAAHHH!" Frei cried out as he got hit by the attack.

Frei Pyre's LP: 3100 - 400 - 400 = 2300

(At the spectators' stands…)

"Awesome! Ruby's taken the lead in Life Points now!" Yang punched the air in celebration.

"Good going, Ruby!" Jaune cheered her on.

"Huh, I guess she isn't… too bad, I guess." Weiss thought to herself.

The audience cheered on for Ruby's move as she continued her turn.

(Back at the duel…)

"I set one card face-down and end my turn." Ruby stated as winds around Erika faded away.

Plasma Pistol Huntress - Erika ATK: 2200 - 800 = 1400

Turn #3: Frei Pyre

Ruby Rose: 3500 LP (Hand = 2) vs. Frei Pyre: 2300 LP (Hand = 2+1)

"Ha! Got to say, you got some great cards and a pretty good grip on how to use them. Now, it's my turn! I DRAW!" Frei shouted as it generated a small gust of wind around him.

'What determination!' Ruby thought as she felt the wind fly by her.

Frei looked at the card he drew and smirked. "Time to have some fun. I activate the Continuous Spell, Nucleactive Chemical Pool." Frei placed this card onto his Duel Disk as a card materialized in front of him facing upwards.

It depicted a large metallic pool of light blue bubbling chemicals with a gleaming yellow snake-like eye visible in it. "With this Continuous Spell effect upon being activated, I can add one level four or lower Nucleactive monster from my deck to my hand, and I choose to add Nucleactive Gas-Breath Rat." Frei declared as the card in question slid out of his deck and he put it into his hand.

"Now I summon my Rat to the field in Attack Mode." Frei slapped the card onto his Duel Disk as a black rat with blue eyes and a pink tail leapt out of a portal, and screeched while blue gas exited its mouth.

Ruby was shocked as she looked at the stats of the monster. "A Tuner Monster?!" Ruby exclaimed.

"Is this kid a Synchro user?" Yang wondered.

"Now, I activate the Spell, Nucleactive Life Charger." Frei activated a card that depicted a humanoid wolf with lightning rods on its back getting charged with electrical energy. "With this card's effect, when I have less Life Points than you, and you have more monsters than I do, I can Special Summon two Nucleactive monsters from my graveyard with different levels." Frei explained.

Nucleactive Life Charger

Normal Spell

"So Shocktrooper Turex and Defender Eagle are back on my field." Frei announced as his monsters in question came back onto the field. "The monsters in question are revived with 0 Attack Points, and their effects are negated however." Frei then said as a faint red aura glowed around the monsters, weakening them.

Nucleactive Shocktrooper, Turex ATK: 1800 to 0

Nucleactive Guardian Eagle ATK: 800 to 0

"Oh no, it's coming…" Ruby grimaced at the sight of his field.

(BGM: Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal - Summoning the Numbers)

"YOU BET YOUR CAPE IT IS!" Frei shouted as the visage of a snake's eyes appeared over him and his monsters, which soon leaped in the air. "I tune Level 4 Nucleactive Shocktrooper Turex and Defender Eagle with Gas-Breath Rat!" The rat Tuner Monster turned into a single white star that flew up into the air and came down in the form of a green ring with lines on it.

"Snake of the stars with gleaming blue scales…" Turex and Defender Eagle flew through the green ring turning into orange outlines of themselves. "Let your celestial light bring despair to our enemies, and show them…" A beam of light shot through the monster outlines and the ring. "OUR TRUE POWER! Synchro Summon!"

A serpentine being shot out of the ground and slithered around the arena, freaking out everyone present. "What the hell?!" Yang shouted.

"What is that horrific thing?!" Weiss asked.

"Holy crap…" Jaune swore under his breath as the monster stopped behind Frei in an imposing manner.

The monster itself was a large light-blue scaled serpent with yellow slitted eyes and white razor-sharp fangs, and frills on the back of its head that looked akin to wings. "Show them your mighty power! Level 8, Astral Warrior - Serpens, the Serpent of Ambition!" Frei shouted before laughing maniacally.

"S-Serpens?" Ruby wondered what the name was about.

"I wouldn't blame you for being scared. Snakes are some of the world's deadliest predators, and this guy is at the peak of the pyramid." Frei gloated.

"Astral Warrior?" Weiss wondered. 'What kind of name is that?' She thought in her head.

"This means trouble… Ruby's monsters aren't tough enough to survive that monster's strength..." Yang muttered in worry.

(End BGM)

"Time to show you what's up, Ruby! Nucleactive Chemical Pool's effect activates." Frei exclaimed as his card glowed brightly. "Since I Special Summoned a Nucleactive monster from my Extra Deck, all face-up monsters you control lose half their Attack Points." He explained.

"WHAT?!" Ruby shouted in shock at the effect. "But your Synchro Monster isn't part of the Nucleactive archetype! It doesn't have the right name!" Ruby said, pointing at the monster in question.

"Don't worry about that, cause thanks to Serpens's passive ability, it's always treated as a Nucleactive monster no matter what." Frei told her.

Serpens reared back its head as it let out a blast of noxious gas from its mouth, smothering the monsters as they were visibly coughing and kneeling on the stadium floor.

Shadow Crossbow Huntress - Marle ATK: 1800 - 900 = 900

Plasma Pistol Huntress - Erika ATK: 1400 - 700 = 700

"Oh no, not good…" Ruby's eyes widened in terror at this.

"Like I said before, Ruby… YOU BET YOUR CAPE IT IS!" Frei raised his hand up to Serpens as it roared.

"Serpens, attack Plasma Pistol Huntress - Erika with Radioactive Venom Strike! DO IT!" Frei then ordered.

Serpens shot out a high-pressure blast of light-blue sludge at Erika, causing her to quickly scream in pain as she shattered into yellow particles.

"ERIKA!" Ruby shouted as she saw that the sludge blast kept going straight for her, and she was soon hit by it as well, making her shriek in pain.

Ruby Rose's LP: 3500 - 2000 = 1500

"And now for Serpens' special ability! When this card destroys a monster by battle, I can choose one monster with Attack Points lower than the destroyed monster's Attack Points, and destroy that monster, and you take damage equal to its original Attack Points." Frei explained with a savage smirk.

"WHAT!?" Ruby shouted once more as Serpens' eyes glowed dark blue and shot out a laser of the same color, the laser went straight for Marle as she closed her eyes. "I activate my trap, Huntress Endurance Aura." Ruby shouted as she revealed her face-down card.

This card depicted an image of a huntress monster with a large steel greatsword thrusted into the ground with a golden aura surrounding her entire body, guarding her from an oncoming flurry of bullets. "With this trap, all face-up Huntress monsters on my field can't be destroyed by card effects." Ruby declared as a barrier formed around Marle, blocking the laser from hitting her.

"Alright then, since my Battle Phase is over, I might as well go with my backup plan. I activate my Chemical Pool's other effect!" Frei pulled the mentioned card out of his Duel Disk and sent it to the Graveyard. "By sending this face-up card to the Graveyard, I can destroy one monster you control with Attack Points less than its original Attack Points, and then you take damage equal to the Attack Points the destroyed monster had while it was on the field." Frei stated as the card glowed ominously.

Immediately after, Marle had a light blue aura surround her as she screamed in pain and soon shattered, causing damage to Ruby.

(At the spectators' stands…)

The crowd was starting to doubt if Ruby could pull a victory out now, as Yang was on the edge of her seat. "Dammit… You can't lose here, Ruby." Yang begged her sister, over the voices of the concerned crowd.

"Looks like all that fire she had in her is starting to fade." Weiss said smugly.

"Come on, Ruby! Get back up! The duel's not over yet!" Jaune shouted.

(Back at the duel…)

Inside Ruby's head, she was aching on the inside. 'This isn't good… I don't have the resources right now to make an exceptional comeback next turn… It could all come down to my next draw…' Ruby thought as she looked at the cards in her hand.

"What's wrong, Ruby?" Ruby snapped out of her thoughts as she looked to Frei and his ace monster. "Aren't you scared?! Doesn't the sight of Serpens just makes you want to cower and tremble in fear?!" Frei taunted in sadistic glee as he let out an oppressive aura in an attempt to intimidate Ruby, and it was slightly working. "Just face it, your remaining Life Points are now going to become snake food for my ace monster!"

(At the instructors' stands…)

"He's at it again…" Glynda muttered in disappointment at Frei's attitude.

"Relax, Glynda. You know that kind of attitude Frei is showing is just an act he occasionally likes to put up in a duel." Ozpin told him.

"Maybe, but even then, did he truly have to break out Serpens for this match?" Glynda asked him.

"He's doing this to see if Ruby is able to surpass such an obstacle in such a state. Because if she can't, I honestly can't say for certain that she has a future here at Beacon." Ozpin said ominously.

(Back at the duel…)

"I end my turn, Ruby Rose! So go ahead, and make your move!" Frei shouted.

Ruby got agitated at the thought of losing. 'Darn it, I didn't come to the best Dueling Academy on Remnant, only to let myself lose before I even get in…' Ruby thought in frustration.

*BA-BUMP!*

(BGM: Bravely Default 2 - Crystal Theme)

Ruby's eyes opened as she looked forward, not to see Frei or his ace monster, but a giant bird covered in flames hovering in front of her. "You with the courage to challenge fate, you with the heart that burns like a searing inferno, you are Ruby Rose." The bird spoke in a booming tone. "And we are the ones, who shall assist you… in challenging the darkness ahead." The bird spoke once more as it glowed and turned into a card that was surrounded by a ball of flames.

"What the…" Ruby reached out to the card, her hand parting the flames surrounding it. As she took the card, she saw the card itself and her mind became clear. "Vermillion-Eye… Goldblaze Firebird." Ruby whispered as she returned to her senses.

(End BGM)

"Aww, what's the matter, Ruby? Has the poisonous fear I've inflicted upon you also made you lose the will to speak?" Frei taunted.

Ruby didn't respond as she stared at the ground with her bangs slightly shadowing over her eyes.

"Don't just ignore me and give me that blank look! Come on, tell me! Tell me how scared you are right now! Because I want to enjoy the sight of your gloomy face that shows me how fearful you are at the mome-!" Ruby cut off Frei's gloating.

"I'm not scared of your monster at all…" Ruby shot at him with slight venom in her voice.

"Huh…?" Frei was shocked at the tone she displayed.

"You heard me… I'm not scared of your monster… or of you at all…" Ruby stated.

"What do you mean you're not scared of me?!" Frei wondered, lost in honest confusion.

"I'm not scared of both you and your monster… because the only thing I should be scared of right now… IS LOSING TO YOU!" Ruby suddenly shouted as she righted herself back up and glared heatedly at Frei, causing a brief whirlwind to blow around the arena.

(At the spectators' stands…)

"WHOA!" Yang exclaimed in shock as she shielded herself from the sudden whirlwind along with the rest of the spectators watching the duel.

"What just happened to her?!" Weiss wondered aloud.

"Oh boy…" Jaune gulped at the loudness of Ruby's shout.

(Back at the duel…)

"Wh-what?! How can this be?!" Frei shouted in disbelief, shocked at how intense that shout was.

"The only other thing I'm also afraid of is not being able to make it to Beacon Academy!" Ruby told him. "I came here because I want to be someone who can inspire hope, and bring it to others." She told Frei. "I'm not about to let my journey stop before it even begins! You got that?!" Ruby stated with determination filling her eyes.

'This girl…' Frei thought before chuckling to himself. 'Heh, I admire her dueling spirit. It'd be a waste if Beacon didn't accept a good Duelist like her.' He then lets out a small smile, admiring Ruby's determination. 'But still… I can't just stop from here!'

Turn #4: Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose: 1000 LP (Hand = 2+1) vs. Frei Pyre: 2300 LP (Hand = 2)

"Now… IT'S MY TURN!" Ruby fiercely declared as she drew a card from her deck. She looked at it and saw a path to victory light its way in her mind.

"I activate the Spell Card, Huntress' Grand Comeback!" Ruby slapped the card onto her Duel Disk as the card unveiled itself on the field, it showed both Marle and Erika shining in a collective blue light, as a silhouette of a red-cloaked warrior holding a scythe behind them was seen. "When I have fewer Life Points than you, and you control a monster while I don't, I can Special Summon as many Huntresses from my Graveyard with their effects negated as I want!" Ruby exclaimed the purpose of the card.

Huntress' Grand Comeback

Normal Spell

"As many as you want?!" Frei asked.

"You heard me! Come on back, Marle and Erika!" Ruby raised her hand upwards as a dark portal opened up on the floor surrounded by three dark purple rings. In which Marle and Erika came back onto the field in Defense Mode.

Shadow Crossbow Huntress - Marle DEF: 800 (Effects Negated)

Plasma Pistol Huntress - Erika DEF: 700 (Effects Negated)

"So what? Your comeback is just one glorified defense?" Frei asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Hardly, cause now I Special Summon Weapons Merchant Huntress - Zola to the field in Defense Mode." Ruby played a new monster as she appeared on the field.

It was a tall woman with a green kimono with a short light green skirt on her lower torso. A red sash wrapped around her waist and a pair of Japanese wooden sandals were present on her feet. She also had a golden monocle over her right eye with a pair of long wrist-mounted claws on her hands. She also had a pair of tanuki ears on top of her head.

"I can Special Summon Zola to my field while I control a Level Four or lower Huntress. And now since I did, I can draw one card for every other level four or lower monster I control." Ruby explained as she drew two cards from her deck. She smirked at what she drew as she placed the newly drawn cards into her hand, and she pulled another one out of it.

"And now… the REAL comeback starts!" Ruby declared, holding up the card. "I tribute both Marle and Erika, in order to break out my trump card!" Ruby declared as both monsters in question turned into purple and yellow energy which then flew into the card in her hand.

Ruby slapped the card onto her Duel Disk as a pillar of fire erupted in front of her.

"Blazing ruler of both sky and flame…" A wing covered in flames manifested within the pillar of fire. "Descend from the heavens above and scorch the evils below you with your divine power…" A collection of tails were whirling around behind the figure as one of them had a silver flame emblem on it. "As with your brilliant red-eye, you move us forward!" A gleaming red eye was visible in the flames on the being's head. "I TRIBUTE SUMMON!" Ruby chanted as the monster let out a loud screech.

"A Tribute Summon?" Frei asked, shocked at the tactic.

"Descend, Level 7! Vermillion-Eye Goldblaze Firebird!" Ruby called out her monster's name as it dispersed the flames and unveiled its form.

It was a majestic bird with wings cloaked in gold flames with red-clawed yellow legs, with the tops of the wings and most of the body having red armor over it as its chest armor had a blue core embedded into it with a silver emblem visible in it, it's head having golden flames burning out the back as the same colored flames vented out of exhaust vents on the armor that made up its shoulder plates, and its left eye had vermillion flames burning around it.

Ruby's ace monster then again lets out a loud screech that was strong enough to briefly shake the entire arena as fiery embers started to dance around it like fireflies.

(At the spectators' stands…)

The audience gasped at the sight of the monster, its golden flames scattering across the arena as they were all captivated by its majesty.

"Whoa…" Yang muttered.

"What kinda monster is that supposed to be?" Weiss asked with wide eyes and a gobsmacked expression.

"Such intensity!" One student exclaimed.

"That's one hell of a monster!" Another student exclaimed in awe of Ruby's ace monster.

"Aw, yeah! He's in for it now!" A female student cheered.

"Vermillion-Eye… Goldblaze Firebird…" Jaune muttered. "So this is Ruby's ace monster!" He said as he soon had a smile appear on his face.

(At the instructors' stands…)

"Ozpin… that monster… She has…" Glynda was shocked at the sight of the monster in front of her as some of the other instructors were also shocked, some even talking about how they've never seen such a card before.

"Indeed." Ozpin muttered as he nodded. "We've finally found you, o sacred one."

"But why her, however? What is THAT card even thinking?" Glynda asked once she snapped out of her shock.

"I don't know… But for now, we wait until the right time to talk to her about her cards. She does have a future at the academy, and in turn… this world." Ozpin stated.

(Back at the duel…)

Ruby smiled as her silver eyes momentarily flashed red once more. Unlike earlier where the red eyes were filled with anger and hostility, these were now filled with sheer passion and determination.

"You're going down, Frei. Right here, right now." Ruby said as her eyes returned to their normal silver color.

Frei recovered from the shock of seeing the monster, as he gained a confident smirk. "You think that monster is going to be enough to take down Serpens?" Frei asked Ruby. "Serpens has 2700 Attack Points, while your Firebird over there is only sitting at 2500. It can't beat Serpens in a head-to-head battle." Frei told her.

"I'm aware." Ruby picked up a card from her hand and played it. "I activate the Equip Spell, Vermillion Accel Wing!" Ruby declared as the card appeared face-up hovering on the floor.

Vermillion Accel Wing

Equip Spell

It depicted Ruby's Firebird armed with a pair of rocket boosters on its back, as well as having more armor plating wrapping around its wings like bracelets, with missile pods present on the backside of the wings themselves. "By equipping this card to Goldblaze Firebird, it gains 800 Attack Points!" Ruby told him as the armaments on the card materialized on Ruby's ace.

Vermillion-Eye Goldblaze Firebird ATK: 2500 + 800 = 3300

Frei was shocked at the sight of the new power-up. "Oh no…" He said grimly.

"Now I activate the Spell, Huntress Trapbuster Tactic!" Ruby played the final card in her hand, as it showed Marle throwing a grenade into a field, triggering mines that were underneath the surface of the ground.

Huntress Trapbuster Tactic

Normal Spell

"This card lets me destroy one face-down card on the field while I control a Huntress. And if that card happens to be a trap card, I can draw one card." Ruby explained the card's effects.

Zola (who was still on the field) had a grenade appear in her hand as she pulled the pin and threw it at Frei's one face-down card. The card itself faced upward as it was Sakuretsu Armor. "My Trap Card, damn, I was saving that card for a monster like that one!" Frei shouted at the sight of said card being destroyed.

"Sakuretsu Armor, a Trap that takes any monster that throws an attack your way and destroys it." Ruby analyzed the card's effects while she drew a card. "Creative. Had it actually been activated, you might've had a chance to win." Ruby stated. "Too bad!" Ruby said playfully, sticking her tongue out while winking.

Frei got agitated at the sight of the current situation. "Now then…" Ruby pointed up to her ace in the whole as as then pointed at Serpens. "Battle time, Goldblaze Firebird! Attack Serpens, the Serpent of Ambition!" Ruby ordered.

Goldblaze Firebird screeched as it spread its wings, the missile pods on the back of them opening up, letting out a barrage of missiles at Serpens.

Frei was shocked the Firebird was attacking in such a manner, but he reacted nonetheless. "I activate the effect of Nucleactive Shieldback Beetle from my hand! By discarding this card, I can prevent Serpens from being destroyed one time!" Frei discarded the card as the phantom-like image of a light blue beetle with a hardened shell appeared in front of Serpens as the snake monster braced for the attack.

"I don't think so! I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Vermillion Neutralizer!" Ruby played a new card that showed Vermillion-Eye Goldblaze Firebird firing a red laser at a group of mages, electrifying them.

Vermillion Neutralizer

Quick-Play Spell

"By sending a monster from my hand or field to the Graveyard while I control a Vermillion-Eye monster on my field, I can negate your beetle's effect!" Ruby explained with a smirk.

Zola turned into red energy and flew forward, past the missiles, and straight towards the image of the beetle protecting Serpens. The red energy collided with the beetle, shattering it into yellow particles.

"Oh, crap!" Frei swore as the missiles hit their mark, causing Serpens to shriek in agony before getting destroyed. "SERPENS, NO!" Frei shouted.

Frei Pyre's LP: 2300 - 600 = 1700

"I'm not done yet, Frei! Since I control no other monsters and Vermilion Accel Wing is equipped to Goldblaze Firebird, it can attack a second time!" Ruby told him.

"WHAT!?" Frei screamed in panic.

The rockets on Goldblaze Firebird roared to life as the monster gathered fire in the area between its wings. Soon enough, a large fireball was formed as Goldblaze Firebird reared its head back.

"Let this be the start of my future, as we blaze a path… TO THE FUTURE! Scorching Eternity… BURST!" Ruby shouted as her monster breathed a large amount of flames into a fireball, causing a massive stream of fire to head straight for Frei.

"I lost, huh?" Frei remarked as had a neutral expression on his face before chuckling to himself. 'Oh, well. I suppose that I can do better next time.' He thought as the flames got closer, only to burst out laughing as he lost the rest of his Life Points to the attack.

Frei Pyre's LP: 1700 - 3300 = 0

GAME OVER!

Winner: Ruby Rose

Frei was lying down on the ground as Ruby panted in exhaustion from the Duel. "Man, that was exhausting." Ruby said as Goldblaze Firebird looked at her. She saw it nodding to her, so she nodded back returning the gesture, as it faded away from the field.

(At the spectators' stands…)

"She won…? SHE WON! MY BABY SISTER WON!" Yang cheered.

The audience cheered for her victory as Jaune leaped into the air. "Nice work, Ruby! You were awesome!" Jaune cheered.

Weiss didn't want to admit it, but she was amazed by the way Ruby had dueled. "She actually won it…" Weiss muttered.

"Shocking, right?" Weiss turned to see the girl with black hair from earlier today walking towards her. "That girl may be a bit wild, but she's definitely got something amazing about her. That's for sure." She stated.

"I…" Weiss didn't know what to say, but spoke up regardless. "I guess you're right, and maybe she does deserve to come to this academy." Weiss stated.

"We'll see if that fact gets proven otherwise. Eventually, at least." The black-haired girl responded as she held out her hand to Weiss. "My name's Blake, yours?" Blake asked rhetorically.

Weiss smiled as she shook hands with her. "Weiss Schnee, looking forward to… growing alongside you. Despite how you may or may not have bad-mouthed my family's company." Weiss said, looking away for a moment.

"Right back at you, looking forward to it as well." Blake responded.

(At the instructors' stands…)

Glynda and Ozpin were amazed at how Ruby was able to make the comeback victory she made, with Glynda adjusting her glasses slightly. "I must say, that was… quite the spectacle to behold." Glynda admitted.

"Indeed, she didn't even use that monster's abilities." Ozpin stated as he looked to Ruby who was still on the arena. "This certainly is looking to be a good year for everyone involved." He added with a smile.

(With Ruby and Frei…)

Ruby was recovering from the exhaustion of the duel as she looked to Frei, who had leapt back onto his feet, with a smile on his face. "That was… an AWESOME duel, Ruby!" Frei said loudly as he walked up to Ruby with a sincere smile on his face, making Ruby slightly confused.

"I look forward to being able to attend this academy with someone like you in it." Frei said with his fist held out to her, asking for a fist bump.

Ruby smiled as well as she made a fist of her own and responded in kind to the fist bump. "Yeah, you're pretty tough yourself." Ruby said to him.

Frei smiled as he soon had an apologetic expression on his face. "Hey, by the way. Sorry about what happened earlier during our duel. I guess I kinda got carried away again the moment when I summoned Serpens into the field." Frei said while scratching the back of his head.

Ruby looked at him shocked as she nodded, "It's alright. Hey, how ab-" Ruby was cut off by Yang suddenly glomping her from behind.

"HAHAHA! I had a feeling in my gut, it'd be a hard duel, but you pulled off a victory to remember, baby sister!" Yang cheered as she gave her sister a bearhug.

"Y-Yang, p-please… let… go…" Ruby begged before going blue in the face from a lack of oxygen.

"Oh, sorry, sis!" Yang said as she put her down, with Ruby greedily breathing in as much air as she could.

Frei sweatdropped at the sight as he discretely moved a few inches from Yang. 'Remind me not to do anything to get that kind of hug from her…' Frei thought while looking the other way.

(In a far, far away part of Remnant…)

A castle overlooking an ominous lake of black sludge was seen as blackened humanoid beings with duel disks grafted into their left arms, and white bony plates on their persons were seen walking around the area, seemingly patrolling the area for intruders, as some others were crawling out of the black sludge itself. The sounds of bones popping and heavy breathing present around them whenever they emerge.

Overlooking this sight was an enigmatic humanoid figure with long blond hair running down her face, as the figure stared off into the ominous dark sky with the moon of Remnant hovering over it all, with purple eyes visible on her face. "She's finally here…" The figure spoke in a feminine tone.

She smiled slightly as she spoke up. "So... you've finally unveiled yourself to the world, you senile little bird." She said with her purple eyes glowing for a brief moment.

(A little while after Ruby's duel ended…)

Ruby was walking down the hallways of Beacon Academy as she held a piece of paper in her hands. "Room 432, 432… where are you?" Ruby wondered as she kept walking.

After she gathered her stuff from and left Beacon's dueling arenas, she was told where she'd be staying, but was also told that she'd be having a roommate, who was left enigmatic. "Ah-hah! Here it is." She smiled as she found the room she and her roommate would be staying together.

"Okay, Ruby. Behind this door, lies your super bestie-better than the restie for the next four years. Time to make a good impression." She said to herself with confidence as she opened the door, and saw her roommate sitting on the bed…

And found Weiss in that position, who looked to turn to her slowly. "Well, hello there. You must be my new roo-" Weiss halted her speaking as she saw it was Ruby in the doorway.

They were both silent for about a solid thirty seconds until Ruby spoke up. "This is going to be a long four years..." She groaned while facing the ground.

When this card is discarded from your hand, you can draw 2 cards, then discard 1 card. Once per turn, you can target one Level 4 or lower "Nucleactive" monster you control, double its level until the end of this turn. You can only activate each effect of "Nucleactive Gas-Breath Rat" once per turn.

Nucleactive Chemical Pool
Continuous Spell
When this card is activated, add one Level 4 or lower "Nucleactive" monster from your deck to your hand. When a "Nucleactive" monster is Special Summoned from your Extra Deck to your field, you can halve the ATK of all face-up monsters your opponent controls until the end phase. During your Main Phase, you can send this face-up card you control to the GY, destroy one monster your opponent controls with ATK less than its original ATK, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the ATK that monster had while on the field. You can only control one face-up "Nucleactive Chemical Pool" on your field.

Nucleactive Life Charger
Normal Spell
Activate this card only while you control less monsters than your opponent and you have less LP than your opponent. Special Summon 2 "Nucleactive" monsters from your GY with their ATK reduced to 0 and their effects negated. You can only activate one "Nucleactive Life Charger" per turn.

5 MONTHS...

Oh boy, I've left you lot hanging for the longest time, have I? All I can really say in rebuttal to that is... I'm sorry, I was swamped with tons of stuff happening in my personal life and I wanted nothing more than to post an new chapter for your reading pleasures, but real life waits for no one, you know, either way though, I hope you like the new fanfic project me and a co-writer I was able to make friends with on Discord made, we're going to pour our hearts and souls into this thing, I promise you that...

But then again, if I didn't pour my heart into it, would you really read this thing?

P.S. Slight warning about this fanfic in particular, it's going to possess A LOT of OC characters of me and my co-writers creation, so if that's not your thing, then I hope you'll at least read this fanfic for the awesome cards me and him will make.

Another P.S. Be prepared for the end of the month, you'll like what's to come around that time.
