A/N: I don't know why, but I just can't seem to stop thinking about this idea, despite me actively trying to continue to write my Smash Bros. Injustice story. I guess I'm somehow actually feeling nostalgic for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe's Story Mode for some reason. Oh well, here's a trailer, based off of the actual Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Story Mode trailer, to test the waters and see if anyone likes this idea. If you want to stay surprised as to who will fill in the roles for which characters, you can just skip to the next chapter and start reading from there.
OK, first let's address the elephant in the room as to why on Earth I would ever use Shaq Fu characters. Yes, I did have that game as a kid, and was it a good game? Honestly, no, not really, though I also think it's a gross exaggeration to call it one of the worst games ever. Seriously, I've played games that make Shaq Fu look like Smash Ultimate in comparison. That being said, despite not liking the gameplay, I always thought the actual characters were cool, and I was disappointed that A Legend Reborn didn't reuse any of them, but that's a rant for another time. Ultimately though, while I was trying to come up with characters to use for the MK side of this Fusion Fic, I somehow dismissively thought, "How about I use Shaq Fu characters, lol!" But after thinking about it some more, I started to realize just how well that would work. Like, it's actually kinda scary how well it works. But maybe I shouldn't be too surprised, considering how much Shaq Fu tried to ape Mortal Kombat in certain ways. So...yeah. Oh, and basically, the original Shaq Fu represents the classic era of MK 1-Trilogy, while A Legend Reborn represents the Mythologies and 4 era of MK...which in this story is just Quan Chi and a mention of Shinnok anyway.
As for the Scholastic side, there's one character here that technically doesn't have any books published by Scholastic, aside from a boxed set of their series of books, at least from what a Google search tells me. I'm counting that and putting them in here anyway, partially for popularity reasons and partially because they're just a really good fit for one of the characters.
So, without further delay, I present to you…
Shaq Fu vs. Scholastic Books Universe Trailer
A blinding explosion illuminates a wasteland.
The scene changes to a ruined part of Hogwarts, with a Daily Prophet newspaper placed behind a window. "Reports are coming in that You-Know-Who has been defeated by Harry Potter," stated the moving picture of a news reporter printed on the newspaper.
Only the shadows of two people on a wall can be seen, but offscreen, one of them yells as the other person shoots them in the chest with a rifle.
In 12 Grimmalud Place, Kristy Thomas kneels down next to a weakened Harry Potter. "People all over the world are disappearing, including Captain Underpants!" she tells him in concern.
Inside District 13, Katniss Everdeen watches in horror as Captain Underpants is suddenly engulfed in yellow energy and disappears without a trace, only to be replaced by a cyborg named Colonel.
"Many NBA players have also disappeared," Shaquille O'Neal lamented to the catgirl Kaori.
Jake Berenson gazes in front of a portal until a bionic arm extends out and grabs him. As Colonel yells, "GET OVER HERE!" from the other side, Jake is pulled into the portal.
In a wide establishing shot of a colossal Greek airship in the sky, Katniss' voice is heard saying, "Earth is in the process of merging with another planet."
In Hell, yellow energy erupts the ground, freeing a small demon named Guan-Yu from the chains holding him.
"Our energies are in constant flux as a result of the merging," a red monster with big claws named Beast informed a defeated Shaq on his knees.
In the ruins of Hogwarts, Colonel punches Harry Potter with a cybernetic arm, sending him crashing into the wrecked Flying Ford Anglia. "Technology?" Harry exclaimed in shock.
"The merging of worlds is contaminating the Earth," Chiron informed Percy Jackson as the latter cautiously watches over Draco Malfoy stirring on the ground. The scene then changes to a very weird line splitting two very different locations, with Kristy Thomas standing in Stoneybrooke, Connecticut on one side and Colonel standing on a rocky bridge over lava called the Dragon's Pass on the other side.
In front of a huge gate called the North Gate, Shaq, a witch doctor named Voodoo, and a robed undead man named Mephis gather around an elderly martial artist named Leotsu. "The Second World faces a grave new challenge," Leotsu says solemnly.
Jake flies in his peregrine falcon morph, headed for Hogwarts.
"Our world and the alien world occupy the same time and space," Katniss informs Kristy through a communicator as she walks down a street in Stoneybrooke.
In an NBA Basketball Court, Draco leaps into action, his eyes sinisterly glowing yellow.
"Powers are shifting. Rebalancing," Leotsu observed, feeling the mystical energies flowing from the Hork-Bajir Valley.
In front of the North Gate, Voodoo raises her hand, ready to finish off Percy, but is mauled by Jake in his tiger morph.
"Grinding two universes together will eventually rip them both apart," Katniss explained to the other Scholastic characters as they all stood on a piece of rock suspended in the air.
"The Guardians of Mankind underestimate me!" Guan-Yu gloated from within Hell.
"At first, I thought it was Sett Ra," Kaori said in concern to Leotsu and Shaq. "But it is someone much more powerful…"
"Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!" Slappy the Dummy cackled evilly in District 12.
"Your world is invading mine," Katniss said acidly to a dockworker named Diesel, circling around him with glowing yellow eyes inside District 13. "Affecting everything and everyone in it."
Colonel stands over an unconscious Kristy before flying away on his jetpack.
"Bitter rivals must fight as one," Kaori informed her allies.
Leotsu, Shaq, Voodoo, Mephis, Diesel, Colonel, Beast, Kaori, Auroch, and Rajah walk towards a balcony in Tombstone Island. During this, the Ellimist can be heard saying, "You shall gather an army of both dark and light." Mirroring the Shaq Fu characters, Harry Potter, Captain Underpants, Katniss Everdeen, Kristy Thomas, Percy Jackson, Jake Berenson, Slappy the Dummy, Draco Malfoy, Coriolanus Snow, and Foxface approach a balcony inside Malfoy Manor.
"If we fail…" Leotsu warned his allies. "…None of us will survive."
Katniss looks down at the two worlds merging from high up aboard the flying Greek airship. "It's worse than I thought. Much worse," Katniss stated, narrowing her eyes.
In 12 Grimmalud Place, Percy sucker punches Shaq, sending him flying over an unconscious Harry Potter.
The characters from both universes face each other on a floating asteroid. With Harry Potter in front, the literary characters stand calmly. "We came to open up..." Leotsu addressed the other group as his allies huddle behind him. "...a can of Shaq Fu!"
Everyone on the Scholastic side screams a battle cry while charging towards the Shaq Fu group, except for Harry, who merely stands back and glares at Leotsu.
Slappy spits out green goo at Mephis, but it's deflected by Mephis' fury.
The Shaq Fu characters likewise rush forward to meet their opposition head-on, excluding Leotsu, who narrows his eyes right back at Harry Potter.
Voodoo stabs a voodoo doll in her hand, stunning Draco long enough for her to stomp the ground, causing an earthquake that sent Draco tumbling down.
Diesel dashes forward at blinding speed and uppercuts Harry, knocking him backward. Diesel follows up with a flurry of punches.
In close combat, the Arabian swordsman Rajah uppercuts Percy and slices his stomach with a scimitar.
While freefalling, Harry Potter physically wails on Leotsu with several blows and finishes off the assault with a Blasting Curse, launching Leotsu towards the ground fast.
SHAQ FU VS. SCHOLASTIC BOOKS UNIVERSE
"Come on!" Slappy pleaded to Snow as he turns to him. "We'll kill things. Blow things up." He leans his elbow on Snow's leg. "Oh, it will be FUN!"
