AN: :V this is the prequel to the first installment which is basically some glimpses in time of how they grew up together. Of course, it's not every nice and juicy detail but still a sprinkle of their dynamics early on in life.
Btw, to clarify birth dates… Asami's born like sometime in the mid-summer and then Korra is born in the late winter-ish of the following year so technicallyyyy, she's older than her by a "year." And FYI, the specific date is vague because I'm too lazy to think and do the math so use your imagination LOL.
P.S. And yes, they are in the same grade despite their age difference.
P.S.S. I'm going with the American grading system sooo:
Elementary: O (outstanding), S (satisfactory), N (needs improvement), etc…
Middle~High: A (100%~90%), B (89~80%), C (79%~70%), etc…
Series order:
- Beating YOU is Impossible
- Traveling with YOU
- Volunteering with YOU
- Running into YOU at a Club
"Oh my goodness! Honey, Senna, Tonraq, look at Asami!" Yasuko beamed as she watched her baby girl in her baby pen. "She's crawling around!"
Lo and behold, baby Asami was barely crawling and moving at a slow rate of basically an inch per minute.
Smiling at her best friend's proclamation, Senna looked in her direction from her seat. "Really? Isn't that early? She's barely four months old, I heard they start crawling around when they're seven to twelve months."
Letting out a jolly chuckle, Hiroshi peeked into the pen. "She's a strong girl, just like her mother!" He then pulled his wife into a side hug before kissing her cheek.
Yasuko had the happiest smile around. "She's so cute!" She quickly grabbed her Polaroid camera before trying to take a picture. "Asami, baby, look this way!" She then made some kissy noises, trying to get Asami to look her way.
Senna giggled before grabbing her husband's arm. "I hope our girl will be strong like her."
Tonraq smiled before nuzzling against Senna. "I'm sure she will," he then pecked her forehead before rubbing his wife's round belly. "She'll grow up just fine."
"She's due anytime now Senna, once she's out, I'm sure she and Asami will grow up equally strong!" Hiroshi said with a proud grin, "Our two girls will take over the world!"
Laughing at her husband's proclamation, Yasuko gave him a silly look. "How about we start with good grades first before world domination hon?"
He just shrugged with a chuckle. "Don't underestimate them, love, our girls will be a force to reckon with!"
Yasuko quickly smiled at that. She then made some more kissy noises while taking a picture of Asami. "They will be for sure."

Korra's chubby face scrunched before she made a fuggly face. After a second of relaxing and scrunching away, she sneezed before giving her mom a dopey look. Asami turned her way out of curiosity and after a second, Korra sneezed again. This time, Asami crawled over to Korra before swatting at her face. Korra whined before bobbing up and down, presumably trying to crawl away but failing to do so. When she couldn't do anything, she started bawling out loud.
In seconds, Senna came running over before checking up on the two. "Oh sweetie, are you okay?"
Letting out an unhappy grunt, Korra looked at her mom before swinging her body around in frustration. Her butt wiggled back and forth before Senna chuckled and picked her up.
"Oh Korra, it's okay, I'm right here." She then pulled out a handkerchief from her pocket and wiped her nose.
Asami tilted her head at the two and blinked a few times before crawling over. She made some whiny noises before frowning slightly. Senna started bouncing up and down to try and soothe her daughter.
"Sweetie, it's okay don't cry."
Scrunching her nose, Asami frowned and after pouting her lips, she also began crying.
"Oh boy—"
The two of them wailed together and Senna just shook her head softly.
"Girls… give us a break won't you?"
Yasuko finally came back from the restroom before her eyes widened. "What happened here?" She then quickly went over and picked up Asami before hugging her tightly and cooing at her. "There there, don't cry."
"Korra started crying and you know how that goes."
Laughing at that, Yasuko kissed Asami's head repeatedly. "Say no more, I heard you loud and clear." She then looked at Korra before smiling at her lovingly. "I can't believe she just turned five months old, time flies by so fast."
Senna chuckled and gave Korra some kisses. "It sure does but it's a shame Korra still can't crawl around yet."
Yasuko quickly shook her head. "Oh no, you're lucky. Once they start crawling, you got to keep a close eye on them because the second you don't, they just disappear! You don't know how many times Asmi gave me a heart attack." She then playfully pinched her nose before cooing, "Isn't that right Asami?"
Asami sniffled a few times before giggling happily in her mother's arms
Smiling at that, Senna poked Korra's chubby cheek. "Korra loves babbling though, isn't that right sweetie?"
On cue, Korra finally stopped crying and flashed her a happy grin before letting out some cute noises. Senna played around with her baby girl, poking her finger around her little tiny hand. Korra giggled before aimlessly grabbing her finger. She showed off her toothless smile which melted both Senna and Yasuko's hearts.
This time, Asami let out this grunt before squirming around in Yasuko's arms and making some noises as well.
Yasuko hummed before poking her nose. "Mmh, yes baby?"
Asami let out a loud "Bah!" before grabbing her mother's shirt. She continued making noises before squirming around uncomfortably. Yasuko then set her down and once she was on all fours, Asami started crawling away.
Shaking her head softly, Yasuko shot Senna a look. "See what I mean?"
Senna laughed as she watched Asami crawl away before setting Korra down. Once her daughter was settled, Korra huffed as she wiggled upward before falling flat on her stomach. She frowned and groaned before wiggling around more aggressively.
"I think she's jealous."
Yasuko smiled at her endearingly. "Perhaps."

"A-Apru"
"Mmh nice try, Korra. It's apple, a-pl."
"A-pu!"
Senna then showed her a picture card of a banana. "And this is a banana, buh-na-nuh."
"Ba-naah!" Korra giggled before wiggling around her butt in excitement.
Her mom chuckled before watching Asami zoom on by, crawling across the floor. "Bananuh!"
It was a driveby word but that seemed to make Korra frown before she scrunched her eyebrows. "Bah-naah-naa!"
Senna quickly chuckled at her sudden spark of interest. "Aww honey, are you trying to beat Asami?"
Korra let out some aggressive babbles before reaching out for her mom. She ended up clenching her hands repeatedly until her mom picked her up. Once Korra was up high, she held onto her mom closely before looking down at Asami. She then babbled some more before turning away.
Asami frowned and let out a soft whine. She then let out the cutest "Hmpfh" before getting up and waddling away.
Senna then chuckled before bouncing Korra up and down. "Don't worry sweetie, one day you'll beat Asami."

With a big grin on her face, Korra happily splashed around the water in the kiddy pool. She then waddled over to the toy turtle duck before flopping onto the ground and picking it up. "Asami Asami Sami! Look look!"
Asami was in the middle of flying around her toy plane before looking her way. "What?"
Korra gave her a devious snicker before squeezing her toy. A little stream of water blasted Asami in the face, making her flinch. Asami squeezed her eyes shut before slowly opening her eyes. She shot Korra this mean glare before chasing after her in the kitty pool. Water began splashing around and in no time, both of their happy squeals and laughter could be heard from across the porch.
Their parents watched them run around, splashing and thrashing about, before finally calling out to them.
"Girls! It's snack time!"
The two of them froze upon hearing the word 'snack' before facing their parents. They then looked at each other before flashing a big grin and running their way. By the time they were settled and seating on the bench, Korra's legs were swinging back and forth as Asami held onto her fork in anticipation. Soon enough, Tonraq brought out a platter of sandwiches while Hiroshi brought out a huge bowl of chopped-up fruits.
"Yay! Fruits!" Asami beamed before swallowing her saliva.
Korra bounced up and down even more energetically before their moms set down some plastic plates in front of them.
"Now now girls, there's plenty for everyone so there's no need to rush," Hiroshi said before setting down the bowl of fruits.
Asami's eyes were practically sparkling as her mom put some serving spoons into the bowl. She then looked at her daughter before asking, "What do you want to eat sweetheart?"
"Watermelon and strawberries and and kiwis and blueberries!"
Yasuko chuckled before scooping some of the fruits onto her plate. "Okay okay, some of everything it is."
"And what would you like to eat honey?" Senna asked before reaching for the sandwiches.
Korra stared at the options before standing up and pointing at the sandwich. "Two of those and one of that!"
Her mom smiled before grabbing two chicken sandwiches and one roast beef. She then put it on Korra's plate before Korra quickly sat back down before grabbing one of the chicken sandwiches and putting it onto Asami's plate. She then picked up her roast beef sandwich before taking a healthy bite. As she chewed away happily, Asami popped a strawberry into her mouth. She started swinging her legs back and forth before looking at Korra's plate. Once she was done chewing, she swallowed before asking:
"You want some fruit?"
Korra took another bite of her sandwich before looking at her plate. "Swure."
Asami then grabbed some watermelon off her plate before setting it down on Korra's.
"Tanks…" Korra finally swallowed her bite before looking at her mom. "Mommy, can I have something to drink?"
"Of course sweetheart," Senna then got up before asking, "Would you like lemonade or milk?"
Korra pouted her lips slightly in deep thought. After a second, she pumped her fist in the sky before answering, "Milk!"
Asami immediately scrunched her eyebrows at her answer.
"And how about you Asami?"
Her eyes flicked up to meet Senna before Asami picked up a piece of watermelon and answered. "Lemonade, please!"
Senna nodded before walking back inside. "Coming right up."
Yasuko then walked around the bench before asking Korra, "Korra, did you want some fruits?"
Korra chewed on more of her roast beef sandwich before setting it down. "Sure," she then picked up her chicken sandwich before taking a bite of it. She chewed away happily before watching a scoop of fruits fall onto her plate. She then giggled before thanking Yasuko and swinging her legs happily.
Soon enough, Senna came back with a pitcher of lemonade and a glass of milk for Korra. She set down the drinks on the table before serving Asami some lemonade. Asami gave her a bright grin before taking a sip. Shortly after, their parents joined them and by the time they finished their small feast, they took a commemorative photo, and just as the picture was about to happen, Korra pounced Asami, getting her to yelp and make a shocked face.
Asami ended up chasing after Korra shortly after.

Since they were neighbors, Korra and Asami would commute to school together. At times, both their moms would pick them up and other times, only one of them would pick them up. Today was their usual and both their moms picked them up from school. The car ride was normally rowdy with playful banter however today was a little… different. Korra was silent most of the ride, blankly staring out the window while Asami was as peppy as always. Their moms noticed a weird tension between them but chose not to comment on it.
The moment Yasuko put the car into park, Asami bolted out the door before running to her front porch. "Daddy! Look look! I got an 'O'!" She proudly boasted as her dad met her at the door.
Hiroshi let out a soft 'oof' when his daughter ran into him before he picked her up and spun her around. "Aw, did you sweetheart? Let me see!" He then looked at her report card before seeing all the perfect scores. "Atta girl!" He quickly grinned before patting her head, "You did an amazing job, I knew you would get a perfect score!"
Meanwhile, Korra had a heavy pout on her face as she trudged up her driveway. Once she was at her door, her dad opened it before raising an eyebrow.
"What's wrong honey?"
Korra crossed her arms before kicking at the floor. "Nothing."
Tonraq tilted his head before looking at his wife. Senna just shrugged with a smile before nodding her head toward Asami and pointing at what was in her hand. He then looked back at his daughter before crouching and smiling.
"Did you get your report card back today?"
His daughter fiddled in place with her head held down. "Yes…"
His smile widened before he asked, "Can I see it?"
Grumbling lightly to herself, she held it out for him to see. Tonraq then looked at it before seeing a mix of S's and N's. He then smiled before patting her head, "Great job honey! You passed most of your classes!"
Korra only shot him a glare that was somewhat sad and upset. "But Asami got all O's."
Tonraq then glanced over at the Sato residence before looking back at her. "Well, did you try your best?"
"..." Korra rubbed her shoe on the porch before mumbling, "Yeah…"
He smiled again before offering, "In that case, how about I help you study for your next quiz? We can work on your homework together too."
Korra's eyes flicked up to meet Tonraq's before she smiled. "Yeah?"
He just nodded, "Yeah."
"Yay!" She gave him a big grin before jumping into his arms. He quickly picked her up before making eye contact with Hiroshi and Yasuko. He then gave them a nod before making his way back inside. "Let's make dinner for mommy now shall we?"
"Ooookay!"
Senna chuckled before following after the two. "What are you two planning?"
Korra poked her head over her dad's shoulder before giving her an innocent grin and saying, "Nothing!" She then gave her dad a fist bump.

"Korra Korra! Look at me!" Asami beamed from above in a tree before waving at Korra when she looked up.
Her mouth immediately dropped before Korra awed. "Woahhh, you're so high!"
"Come up here!"
Korra immediately dropped her head before looking at where their parents were. Once the coast was clear, she giggled before running over and climbing the tree. She ended up climbing the same one Asami climbed and in no time, she was next to Asami on the large branch.
"Woah this is so cool!"
Asami gave her a bright grin. "We're so tall!"
Enjoying the view, Korra looked around at the scenery before looking up the tree even more. "I bet I can go higher!"
Gasping softly, Asami quickly grabbed onto Korra's arm. "Don't! It's too tall!"
Korra just gave her a big grin. "It'll be fine!" She then brushed her off before climbing even taller.
Asami quickly frowned before nervously shifting in place. "Korra…" she sounded worried as she slowly made her way higher and higher. "Korra!"
That last shout must have alerted their parents because the next thing Asami knew, her mom raised her voice. "Asami! Young lady, what are you doing up there? Get down right this instant!"
That immediately made Asami whimper before she sheepishly looked at her mom. She then looked up nervously at Korra before shrinking in her place.
Yasuko gasped out loud before scolding Korra as well. "Korra! Get down here this instant! You're going to hurt yourself!"
Korra twitched in place before slipping on the branch. Asami immediately gasped as she watched Korra fumble slightly but luckily, she caught herself on a branch,
"Oh my goodness, Korra!" Yasuko exclaimed before rushing toward the shed. "Stay right there! I'm coming to get you!"
Asami was somewhat panicked as she looked between her mom and Korra. She whimpered before looking up. "Korra, you okay?!"
Korra huffed before throwing herself over the branch. "I'm… okay…" she sounded a bit uncertain but thankfully for the two of them, no one was hurt since Yasuko made quick work of getting them out of the tree.
Of course… the two of them got a thorough scolding afterward.
xXx
Running at her full speed, Korra ran past the finish line before throwing her hands up. "Whooo!" She huffed and puffed before turning around and giving Asami a big grin. "First place for the winnn!"
Falling short by several seconds, Asami's hands fell onto her knees before she panted for air. Once she caught her breath somewhat, she pouted at Korra with a glare. "You were just lucky."
Korra couldn't help her smug look. "Like the last time and the time before that?"
Rolling her eyes, Asami wiped away her sweat with her forearm. "Whatever, at least I passed the math quiz."
This time, Korra scoffed. "This isn't math class right now you nerd. It's all about strength here!" She then flexed her arm before patting her bicep.
Asami eyed Korra's arm before immediately rolling her eyes and walking away. "Whatever, I'm getting water."
Korra snickered before chasing after her. "I win!"
School ended in a flash and Yasuko picked the two of them up today. She noticed that her daughter was oddly quiet while Korra was energetic. She didn't need to ask anything to already know what was wrong. It had become somewhat obvious that when one of them was upset and the other was beaming with energy, it meant one of them won and lost a friendly competition.
Usually, Korra would always be quiet when she lost to Asami when it came to academic studies while Asami would be quiet when she lost to Korra in some physical activity. They both had their strength and weaknesses if anyone asked their parents, they would say their daughters were perfect since they balanced each other out. However, if one were to ask them about it, it would drive the two of them crazy. They hated losing to each other and had yet to accept the fact that they couldn't be perfect at everything.
By the time they both made it home, Korra thanked Yasuko for the ride before bolting out of the car and running up to her porch. Once she was inside, Yasuko turned to face Asami before smiling. "You okay there kiddo?"
Asami hugged her backpack tightly before looking at her mom with a pout. "Yeah."
"Did you want to talk about it?"
Blinking a few times, Asami sighed with a pout. "It's nothing, Korra just beat me in a race." She then unbuckled before getting out of the car.
Her mom was quick to follow after her before she patted Asami's shoulder. "Don't worry honey, you can always beat her next time."
Asami jutted her lips before readjusting her backpack on her shoulder. "That's what you said last time, I don't know why she's so fast! I'm taller than her though, my legs are longer!"
Smiling at her daughter's silliness, Yasuko opened the front door. "Well… maybe we can go running together?"
When her mom shut the door, Asami dropped her backpack on the couch. "She always beat me with everything though!"
"But you always score higher than her on quizzes no?"
"Well, yeah but still…"
Yasuko smiled before noting, "Then I guess it can be a goal for you to beat Korra one of these days then huh?"
Asami faced her mom with a blank face. After a second of pondering, she just shrugged. "I guess."
xXx
Elementary went by in a flash and in no time, the two of them were in middle school. They were at the peak of their puberty and let's just say… the two of them started clashing more. As always, Asami's natural academic prowls beat Korra in every way by a landslide. It made her frustrated every time but eventually at some point in time, Korra gave up on trying to beat her academically. Instead, Korra focused on her body, strengthening herself and excelling in sports. She practically left Asami in the dust and even though Asami wasn't bad herself, she still couldn't beat her.
Slamming the door to her locker shut, Asami straightened out her clothes before looking Korra's way. Korra had just barely started pulling off her P.E. shirt over her head, meaning Asami saw a full glance of her chest and stomach. Asami quickly turned away in embarrassment before slowly looking back at her change. She noted that Korra's breasts were bigger than her own. She ended up looking down at her own body before cupping her chest. She then flinched when another girl from her class shut their locker door before turning away from Korra. As she stared at her locker door, she shook her head before slapping her cheeks.
Korra finally noticed her before shooting her a look. "What? You that disappointed I beat you in basketball Sato?"
That immediately made Asami frown. "Don't call me by my last name Korra."
There were a few reasons why she didn't like being called by her last name. The first reason was being associated with and judged upon by her family's reputation. The second reason was because Korra wasn't some stranger from her dad and mom's company. She was a friend and her alley, not some stranger trying to kiss ass.
She just shot her a grin before winking at her. "Sorry, Sami!" She then shut her locker before walking over and nudging her shoulder. "Come on, let's get going before we're late for class."
Asami rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah yeah."
Korra then wrapped an arm around Asami's shoulder and dragged them both toward the exit. For some reason, Asami's cheeks inflamed before shrugged off Korra's arm. Korra ended up blinking before tilting her head in confusion.
"What?"
Something about her dejected face made Asami's chest pang. Her heart was thumping like crazy and she quickly turned around before walking ahead. "You stink."
"What?! Do I?" Korra then sniffed her armpit before chasing after Asami. "Seriously? I stink that bad?"
Asami shot her a glance before watching a bead of sweat drip down her forehead. She felt her cheeks grow warm before brushing her off. "Yeah so stay away, you nasty!"
"Hey!" Korra chuckled before snickering by her side. "You know you can't get away from me!" She then pulled Asami into another hold.
This time, Asami grunted before brushing her off again, albeit, harder than intended.
"Ow—" Korra pouted before rubbing her arm. "Geez, you don't have to push me that hard."
That made Asami's heart ache. She then frowned before apologizing sheepishly. "Sorry, my bad. It's just… that time of the month that's all."
Korra immediately grimaced. "Oof— big rip," she then raised her hands in surrender. "I gotcha loud and clear."
"..." Asami stared at her before turning away. "Let's just go to class already."
"Yes ma'am!" Korra playfully saluted at her with a lop-sided grin before chasing after her.
xXx
"What?!" Asami exclaimed in shock, "You kissed Tahno?! Eww."
Korra raised an eyebrow before frowning at her. "What's that supposed to mean?" She sassed back, "He's not that bad."
"I know but still, Tahno?" Asami made a face that happened to rub Korra in the wrong way. "As your first kiss? Didn't you hear the rumors about him in middle school?"
"Say's the one who kissed Mako!" Korra shot back with some oomph as she poked Asami's shoulder. "What's so great about him anyways?"
This time, Asami frowned before glaring at her. "What's your problem Tartak? Are you still mad I asked him out before you did?"
Blinking upon hearing her last name, Korra scoffed before frowning deeply. "Am not! Like I care who he dates first! Besides, if you just got to know him a bit better, he isn't that bad! Just misunderstood."
Asami rolled her eyes. "Sure, if you say so."
Breathing out a huff, Korra's nose flared. "You really are something aren't you Sato." That made Asami twitch in her place. "Just because you're a nerd doesn't mean you know everything about everyone!"
"And what's that supposed to mean Tartak, last I heard, you were failing math!" Asami quickly retorted back.
"I am not!" Korra exclaimed with a pissed-off face. "I'm passing the class just so you know." When Asami shot her the 'look,' Korra's lips thinned out before she mumbled. "I got a C-…"
Asami chuckled with a slight scoff to it. "Guess getting hit by soccer balls all the time gave you some loose screws up there."
Korra couldn't believe her ears. "Well sorry, I'm not a fucking genius. Not everyone can get perfect A's okay? News flash, high school is harder than middle school."
Groaning in annoyance, Asami just shot her an irritated look. "We're barely freshmen, stop overreacting."
"How about you stop underracting!"
Scrunching her face, Asami couldn't believe her ears. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"You tell me 'Miss Smartypants.'"
Asami growled at her. "Stop calling me that."
"Stop calling me that," Korra repeated to mock her.
Growling again, Asami scoffed before turning away. "I can't stand you."
"Neither can I!" Korra shot back before pulling down an eyelid and sticking out her tongue.
Asami didn't see Korra but she didn't need to see her to know that she was acting childish. She ended up flipping her middle finger at her before walking off to class. Then, ever since their so-called fight in their freshman year, their relationship seemed to quickly unravel for some apparent reason. Every time they saw each other, they would start arguing about the dumbest things. They had already long since commuted to school separately since Korra could never wake up on time so this was no surprise.
And just like that, time quickly elapsed as they became sophomores, juniors, and finally, seniors. Their relationship never got any better and in fact, it became more aggressive and violent. They always poked at each other when given the chance and had this unburning rivalry that didn't resolve. Their antagonistic relationship quickly became known throughout the school and the two of them were practically cats and dogs.
Then… once graduation passed, they went about their separate ways without looking back.
