Sienna had a barrage of conflicting emotions as she made her way back to the cabin. While she appreciated the comfort of the t-shirt he had given her, she couldn't shake off the distress she felt concerning the scars that covered Seiya's body. It was hard for her to fathom the experiences he must have endured. She pondered whether these marks were inflicted by hunters that discovered his true nature and had intentions to hunt him down. Was his life reduced to constantly running and hiding? The thought of his parents being killed by these hunters to leave him an orphan at such a tender age was a possibility that also plagued her mind. But she couldn't think about it too much, otherwise she could feel the tears starting to run from her eyes. Following that, she would allocate the next few hours to cook dinner for him, making a valiant effort to set aside those thoughts. She was unwilling to prob further and unsettle him, although at the same time, she couldn't deny that she was fascinated with him, even more now after discovering that he wasn't a human. But a saint.
Finally after three long hours, she was finished cooking. Quickly she loaded everything up on a small tray. The meal was small for how long it had taken her to prepare it, but she'd just wanted to make sure everything was perfect. The small meal consisted of a bowl of tomato soup, with a sprinkle of grated cheese on top, and on the side for later sat a crusty baguette with a small spread of butter. She carefully picked up the tray and exited the cabin, but as soon as she caught the gaze of Cassios, her foster father, her emotions overwhelmed her. "Oh, Cassios! I wasn't anticipating your arrival today. I presumed you were working a two night shift at the nightclub?" she said nervously, her fingertips shrinking, though she was careful to keep the tray from falling from her hands, just as they started becoming sweaty.
He stared at the scrumptious meal on her tray and asked, "Little lamb, is this dinner brought by you for me?"
''No, I thought I'd eat outside for a change. It's an awfully beautiful night tonight.'' she lied, try as she may to push past him. However Cassios had always been a well built one, tall and strong. So he was carefully able to push her back with zero effort. ''Why would you want to do that? Don't you know their are so many bugs out here at night, do you want to wake up covered in bites the next morning?'' he asked, attempting to push her further into the house, the might of his heavy boots causing the bowl of soup to rattle a little, which worried Sienna. Last thing she wanted was to see her three hour meal fall. ''Please let me pass, Cassios. I really need to go outside and get some fresh air, I've working non-stop for three hours. And it's so hot in the cabin.'' Sienna pleaded as she tried to wriggle out of his grip. Cassios smirked, knowing full well what that Sienna would never win a physical confrontation against him. So he overall was greatly enjoying messing with her like this. ''You can't go outside right now, Sienna. Like I told you, the bugs are quite pesky this time of year. You don't want to get bitten and get sick,'' he said calmly.
Sienna found herself annoyed with Cassios. She had lived in this area for a long time now, and knew that the bugs were never this bothersome as Cassios tried to make them seem. It was clear he just didn't want her to do something he didn't pass on. She knew Cassios was just trying to keep her trapped in the house. ''Cassios, I think I can handle the bugs. Please just move,'' Sienna said with a firmer tone of voice, still hopeful that she could convince him to move, rather than having to get physical. She was suddenly taken aback by Cassios grip on her arm. Winching, her soup bowl shook violently, and she was forced to watch in absolute horror as the contents splattered all over Cassios' clothing as well as the floor. ''You stupid girl! Look what you've done! You couldn't have just shut up and listened to me? Could you!'' Cassios roared in rage. Sienna quickly realized that she had made a grave mistake, however she was desperate to get out to Seiya, so she desperately tried to calm Cassios down, by motioning for him to come into the house, apologizing as she strolled towards the bucket, which houses a small wash cloth, which acted as their kitchen sink. ''I'm so sorry father, please let me clean this up,'' she said in a meek voice. Sienna knew she had to act fast if she wanted to escape from the dangerous situation she knew it would turn into, if she didn't act super fast.
''Sienna, come over here, please.'' he said, his voice clearly still shaking with rage. Sienna slowly nodded, allowing the wet cloth to hit the contents in the bucket, as she strolled over to her father's side. ''What are you doing! Did I tell you to leave that cloth behind?!'' he shouted. ''Oh, I'm sorry.'' she replied, as she quickly jogged over to the bucket, her hand holding a firm grip around the cloth, as she quickly dipped it in, watching as it was submerged in the water, then she was right back at his side. Carefully she took the small cloth, dappling drops of the water on the really bad stains, as Cassios watched her movements carefully, making sure she didn't skip on any of them. ''I have a question for you, dear daughter. And I expect truthful answers. Are you ready to hear my question?'' her father asked, his tone suspicious.
''Absolutely, father.'' she replied while she continued to diligently stub away at the stubborn stains, until her fingers were literally starting to throb after only a few seconds of performing the act. ''Who is in this house with you?''
''I don't understand the question, father It's only us here, you and me. That's what you mean, right?'' she asked, stumbling over her words, as anxiety started to creep up on her, causing her pulse to race in her ears. ''Tell me why you're lying to me. All I asked was for the truth!'' he started, angrily, forcefully grabbing her arm, as he dragged her upright, his breath reeking of pure alcohol, as the scent brushed against her cheek.
Sienna winced in pain as her father's grip tightened on her arm. She tried to pull away but his grasp was too strong. "Father, please, I'm not lying. It's just us," she said, her voice shaking with fear. "I swear to you." "Don't you dare lie to me!" he shouted, his face contorted with anger. "There's someone else in this house, I can feel it. I can smell it. It's probably that boy you met at the nightclub, the one I told you to stay away from! Is that it, Sienna?!'' Sienna's heart sank as she slowly connected the dots, realizing what it was he was talking about. It hadn't taken him long to realize that was really what was going on here. However there was no way he would hear the truth come out of her mouth. She would lie till the cows came home. ''There's no one else here, father. I swear to you!'' she said, desperately trying to convince him. ''I swear on my mother's life.'' But her father was too far gone in his rage to listen to reason. He tightened his grip on her arm even further, his fingers digging into her skin. Sienna cried out in pain, tears streaming down her face. ''Don't you dare swear on your mother.'' he hissed between clenched teeth.
Just then, there was a loud knock at the door. Both Sienna and her father froze, looking at each other in terror. Who could it be? And would they be able to help her escape this nightmare? Sienna's heart began to race as her father cautiously moved towards the cabin door, still holding tightly onto the grip he had on her arm. She could hear the sound of his heavy footsteps echoing off the ceiling from the outside, which seemed to cause her father's grip to tighten even more. With a sharp tug, he violently pulled the door open, revealing a tall, broad - shouldered man standing behind it. ''Good evening, sir,'' the stranger said with an uneasy smile. ''Oh! and good evening to you as well, miss,'' He said, addressing Sienna. ''I was just wondering if you had a few minutes to talk to me.'' Cassios's eyes narrowed as he glared at the man, his fingers still gripping Sienna's arm tightly. ''Who are you?'' he said gruffly. The man behind the door didn't seem the slightest intimidated, calmly replying with ''My name is Jacob. I'm a private investigator. I've been hired to investigate a series of crimes that have been reported in this area. I was told that there were some people who despite all of the chaos, still live around here. I thought maybe you might have some information that could be useful to me.''
Sienna's heart was pounding as she watched the interaction between the two men, closely. She couldn't believe her luck. Was this the answer to her prayers? A chance to escape from her abusive father and this hellish life, if she could run fast enough she could regroup with Seiya. As her father started to grudgingly let go of her arm, Sienna knew there was her chance. Quickly she took advantage of her new found freedom, grabbing a small bag that she had packed up in case there was ever a chance to flee, and made a run for the front door, right before the officer and her father could even think to stop her.
''Wait! Come back here right now!'' she could hear her father's voice shouting at her from behind, but there was no way she was going to do that. She was free. Allowing the dirt to build up between her bare feet, she took off even faster, try as she may to remember the pathway she'd taken where she prayed Seiya would still be. Though it was dark now, and hard to see, she knew if she stopped now, that would be the end of everything. Even though there was difficulty, there was no stopping her.
As Sienna ran, she suddenly felt a sense of liberation she had never experienced before. She could hear the leaves rustling under her feet, and the sweet sound of her own breathing echoing in her ears as she glided past the trees. She had never been athletic and her lungs were burning, though she did partake in daytime jogs from time to time, she didn't look at it as anything special. ''Please let Seiya still be there.'' she prayed, her heart racing with anticipation. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, her ears picked up on the loud rainfall, as the faint outline of a person came into view. She couldn't believe it, she'd found it. The rainfall. ''Seiya?'' she called his name, altering him to her presence, as his brown eyes laid upon her. ''Sienna? Oh my god, what happened to you? Are you okay?''' he asked, rising to his feet. There she'd barely made it over to him, before collapsing in his arms. Seiya held her tightly, pulling her head against his chest, as he felt the tears roll down her cheeks, allowing her to cry and express her emotions freely, as she stuttered, try as she may to still get the story of what happened out. She told him about the argument with her father, and how she couldn't take it anymore. She expressed her desire to leave and start a new life. A new life that involved him.
''You'd still be with me, even after finding out what I am?'' he asked, surprised.
''Yes, of course I would. Because I know, what you are doesn't define who you are.'' Sienna replied, looking at him with her tearful eyes. ''I just know that you're the person I fell in love with. You're one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life, and you know I don't have that many,'' she seemed to giggle a little at this. Seiya couldn't stop himself from smiling at this, knowing full well he felt the same. He had always known that he was different from everyone else, and by the looks of it, Sienna knew this about herself as well. ''I made a decision as well, Sienna.'' he said, taking a deep breath. ''I'm going to leave New York. I've always known that I don't belong here, and I won't pretend that one day I might...I want to be who I truly am, and I want to do it with you by my side.''
''Really?'' Sienna's eyes lit up with excitement. She had never felt so alive in her entire life. Till now. The thought of starting a new life, was thrilling and scary. But she knew she wouldn't be facing it alone...
''Let's do it.''
As they held each other close, focusing on the warmth of their embrace, they knew they were finally free. The sky above them seemed to open up, just as a downpour of rain came down, drenching their bodies, as if it was cleansing them of their old lives. Seiya took Sienna's hand, and they ran, not looking back, not even once. They knew they were starting a new chapter in their lives, one filled with love, adventure, and freedom. However not everything can be perfect. Oblivious to them, they wouldn't be traveling alone...
