It was a sunny and rather boring day at the small town of Jasper Nevada. In one of the residents there, a young teen came out of the house before locking the door and making her way to school while carrying a book which she starts to read on the way and has a backpack.
She has light platinum yellow blonde hair that almost looks white and sapphire blue eyes. Fair skin and a rather charming personality. This girl is named Emily Sparks.
She moved to Jasper last month since her dad allowed her to move out of town due to his work but they always video call each other to keep in touch and she made three friends in the small town.
On the way to school, she couldn't help but hear the gossip and whispers that were mostly about her being odd and strange, which only made her roll her eyes and close her book since she arrived at school already.
Waiting by the steps were her three friends. Jack Darby, a 16 year old with slick black hair and stormy blue eyes, Rafael Esquivel, a Mexican descendant with soft honey brown eyes and spiky brunette hair and Miko Nakadai, a Japanese descendant with dark brown hair almost black with pink highlights and bright brown eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Hey, guys!" Emily called as she ran up to them.
"About time, girl! We've been waiting forever." Miko said as Jack rolled his eyes.
"Miko, we've been only waiting for Emily for 10 minutes." He said.
"Felt like hours to me." Miko stuck her tongue out playfully.
"Hey, Emily, how's that new book you borrowed from the library?" Raf asked curiously as they entered the school.
"Oh you know. Just the classic fairytale about Jack and the beanstalk story which I still find strange even though I read it after yesterday." Emily replied as they went to their lockers.
"Really? Maybe you can teach Miko here how to read that quickly since she finds books boring." Jack said as Miko punched his shoulder.
"Classic fairytales aren't boring, Jack-Rabbit. Plus it's the history and stuff that's boring. I wanna read something exciting! Or better yet experience something out of the sci-fi films!" Miko said excitedly.
Emily just shook her head in amusement before a tap on Jack's shoulder made him turn and he blushed lightly.
"Hey, guys." It was Sierra, the cheerleader captain with reddish hair and soft lime green eyes.
"H-Hey, Sierra." Jack greeted nervously.
"Sup." Miko greeted with a smirk while Raf waved shyly while standing beside Emily.
"Hey, Sierra. Fancy seeing you here." Emily teased as Miko nudged a nervous Jack.
"Yeah. Hey, is it okay if I sit with you guys at lunch? Katie is absent today and I was hoping that you could help me write down some notes for her." Sierra said as they started walking to their shared class.
"Oof. What did she get?" Jack asked in concern.
"Just the mild case of the chickenpox. Your mom came by earlier and gave her some prescriptions and she asked me if I can copy her notes for her." Sierra said.
"Sure thing. It's the last day of the school semester before the break. So might as well do that." Emily said as they entered class and sat down at their seats.
The teacher was already there and they arrived before 7:20 am which is always the start of the class.
"Okay, class. Time for roll call. Alexander?"
"Here."
"Kaden?"
"Present."
"Esquivel?"
"Present."
"Bowman?"
"Present."
"Nakadai?"
"Sup!"
"Kon?"
"Present."
"Darby?"
"Um, present."
"Witwicky?"
"Present."
"Sparks?"
"Present."
"Raider?"
No reply as they looked at the empty seat as the teacher was about to mark absent the door opened and the missing student entered.
"Present." He said with a smug look.
The class and the teacher just gave him a deadpan look as he went to his seat and sat down.
"Vince Bishop Raider, if you continue to act like such a delinquent, I'll have to send you off to the principal's office to call your father." The teacher chided as she closed her attendance book.
"No worries. It won't happen again." Vince reassured her and sent the four students in front of him a smirk.
Miko gave him a dirty look while Jack just shook his head. Emily just ignored Vince while Raf took out his notebook.
"Now, let's review the history lesson about France during the 1700s." The teacher said,
This got the attention of Emily, Raf, Jack and Miko. French was their favorite and they watched the latest movie from Disney which they called an art piece. Raf was hugging Emily when the Beast in it died momentarily with Miko cursing Gaston in Japanese swears while Jack just felt sad. Emily on the other hand felt the sadness Belle was feeling since she lost her mother in a car accident.
The lesson went on until the bell rang, signalling half day for everyone.
"Okay, class. I know this is the last day of school but I want you all to remember to review for the big test in the second semester after December." The teacher said as the students started to leave.
The students were all excited to start their semester break as the trio were sitting by the stairs and waiting for Emily since she told them that she has to return the book to the library and lend Sierra her notes to give to Katie.
"So what do you plan during summer break?" Miko asks excitedly.
"Well, I was thinking of starting my part time shift at the K.O Burger joint at the gas station." Jack said.
"Wow, you seriously got the job?" Miko asked in impressed.
"Yup. Gotta help mom since she's dating someone named William Fowler." Jack said while crossing his arms.
"William Fowler huh? Imagine if he and your mom marries. What will be your name then? Jack Darby Fowler?" Miko teased as Jack looked like he wanted to hide under a rock.
"Hey!"
That shout made them turn to see Vince and his goons by the steps and Vince has Raf's book.
"Give me back my book, Vince!" Raf exclaimed as he tried to reach for it.
"Not a chance, shortie. What are you reading anyway? It doesn't even have pictures." Vince said tauntingly as he looked at the pages.
"Vince, give him back his book will ya?" Jack said as he approached Raf with Miko.
"Yeah! Give Raf his book back or else!" Miko said as she gave Vince a warning look.
"Or else what, pinkie?" One of Vince's goons asked as they laughed.
"You better give Raf his book back, Vince. Before I tell the principal about this." The voice made them look to the entrance of the school as Emily was giving Vince and cronies a look.
"Oh look at that. Miss Strange Blonde came just in time." Another of Vince's cronies sneered but shut up when Emily gave him a glare.
"Emily, my girl, how are you doing?" Vince greeted her while Emily just rolled her eyes and came down the stairs.
She snatched the book back from him and gave it to Raf who held it close to his chest.
"One, I'm not your girl. Two, I'm not interested in whatever you have to say and three, don't you mess with Raf." Emily warned him.
"Hey, come on. The nerd is reading a book that doesn't make sense. No reason for him to get any smarter." Vince said as Emily crossed her arms.
"You're so primeval, you know that?" Emily rolled her eyes.
"At least, I'm the cool one here." Vince smirks.
"Nah, I think you're the dumb jerk that can't take no for an answer. Go run to your father and whine like a baby." Emily said as she started walking away with Raf, Jack and Miko following, leaving a dumbfounded Vince while his cronies were laughing.
Some students who witnessed that just started to laugh before Vince snapped out of his shock and gave them all a glare.
"What are you laughing at?!" He asked angrily before he stomped over to his car.
With the group, they stop by a shop to get something to eat as Miko was enjoying her strawberry flavored milkshake.
"Have you heard of the rumors?" Raf asked curiously as he ate his cheesecake.
"What rumors?" Miko asked while Emily ate a strawberry shortcake slice.
"I was going through the internet and found something really strange. It's only a picture but I was able to copy it and made sure the resolution is better." Raf said as he took out his laptop and showed them the picture he found on the net.
It was a rather old looking picture but they could see some sort of thing staring into the lense of the camera.
"It's still going viral and they kept saying that it's bigfoot but I don't know for sure." Raf said as Miko slurped her milkshake.
"Well, I for one am curious about that. Who knows? We might find ourselves face to face with it one day." Miko said before Raf's laptop has a call icon.
"Ems, your dad is calling." Jack said as Emily looked up and smiled.
"Cool." Raf answered the call and they watched as the screen opened up and it was in an apartment before a man showed up and smiled at them.
"Hey, kiddos! What's up?" He asked with a smile as Emily laughed.
"Dad, your, um, your pants." Emily giggled while her father, Edward, looked down and yelped in surprise before fixing his pants while Miko was snickering as Jack shook his head in amusement while Raf laughed.
"Sorry about that. Didn't notice I put my pants on backwards again." He chuckled.
"This is why I have to keep reminding you." Emily smiled as Edward smiled back.
"So how's school and life treating you?" Edward asked.
"Well, to start things off. It's the usual day. School and such but people kept talking about how weird and odd I am. I know I went here to Jasper to make new friends and start a new life ever since... You know. Things have been going well for us. We're starting our semester break too." Emily said as her father looked a little concerned.
"Why would people think you're odd and weird? You're you, sweetheart." Edward said as Emily sighs.
"She seems to think doesn't fit in here. Even though she can talk to us, she feels like she doesn't have anyone to connect with." Miko said.
"What about that kid, Vince? He sounds like a charming fellow." He asked and got cringe faces from the four.
"Dad, no. Please don't go there. You know what we told you about him. Sure he's handsome and the son of an ex-military, but he's also very rude and full of himself." Emily said with a cringe look.
"Not to mention that he always picks on Raf every chance he gets." Jack added as Edward gave them a sympathetic smile.
"Well, I'm just glad you're doing alright. I was planning on visiting you all since I have the month off." Edward said which threw Emily off.
"Whoa! Really?! Since when?" Emily asked in disbelief.
"Believe it or not, I was able to finish all of my work and got to spend the month off with my daughter." Edward said with a smile.
"That's great, dad. When will you be here in Jasper?" Emily asked excitedly.
"I might arrive tomorrow at noon if I put the pedal to the metal." Edward said with a grin.
"That's great! I'll be sure to get the house ready for your stay." Emily said as Jack, Miko and Raf smiled.
"Looking forward to it. We might go on some trips to spend the month with you all. But I'm gonna need the permission of Jack's, Miko's and Raf's family so they can join us." Edward said as Raf perked up.
"C-Can we go to someplace where it snows? I always wanted to see snow." Raf asked as Edward smiled.
"Sure, kiddo. I gotta go and pack. I'll see you soon." He said before he hung up the call.
"Emily, I can't wait to spend the semester with your dad! He seems cool!" Miko said excitedly as Emily laughed.
"Oh, he is. He's the best dad ever. Even after... mom passed away." Emily said softly as Jack put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, don't sweat it. We'll help you clean up your house for dad to arrive." Jack said as Emily smiled thankfully.
"Thanks, Jack." Emily said as Miko jumped up from her seat.
"Last one to Emily's house is a rotten egg!" Miko exclaimed excitedly and ran out of the store.
"Miko, hang on!" Raf chased after her as Emily paid the bill as she and Jack ran after their friends.
Looks like their semester break has officially started but also the start of something new.
