"Just one more step, Leo." Kayla said as she helped Leo down the last steps of the stairs as they stopped by in front of a window.
"Ugh... I shouldn't have fought while I was hurt..." Leo groaned as Kayla opened the window.
"Well, you did kinda save me. So worth it?" She said as she looked at him.
"Yeah. Definitely worth it." He smiled as Kayla went inside the room and turned on the lights.
"Hurry before someone sees you." She told him and Leo carefully but painfully got inside the room through the window.
Kayla looked around outside the window before closing it and locking it from the inside before heaving a sigh of relief after closing the curtains.
"Finally..." She said just as Leo sat down on the bed. Good thing it was the guest bedroom they were in.
Kayla quickly went to the bathroom to get the stuff she needed to clean and patch Leo up as he winced as his wounds sting again. She came back with a basin of water, a wash rag and a first aid kit.
She kneeled down in front of him as she put everything down.
"I'm gonna need you to hold still." She told him as she put the wash rag in the water before wringing the water out.
"This might sting but I need to clean your wounds before they get infected." She said as she started to clean the injuries on his arms and around his stomach.
All the while, Leo stayed still but the occasional wince and groan could be heard and Kayla had to try and reassure him. Most of the minor injuries were clean which was a relief but the part that concerns her the most was his leg and his side that was covered.
"May I...?" She hesitantly pointed to his bandaid side.
"O-Okay..." Leo shakily said as he removed the fabric from it and Kayla sucked in a breath at the sight.
The injury looked like hell with dried blood around the area which was a nasty color between dark red and purple. She hesitantly traced her fingers to the outside area gently which made Leo groan in pain.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to." Kayla apologized and started to clean it as gently as she could but she couldn't help but wonder what happened to him that caused that injury.
"You're... probably thinking of what caused it huh?" Leo whispered as she glanced at him curiously but didn't stop what she was doing.
"Yeah. I was wondering what caused it but... you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, Leo." She said softly as she dabbed his injury with hydrogen peroxide which caused him to bite back a cry of pain and surprise from it.
"S-Something happened... The sky ripped open and something big came out of it. One of my brothers was brainwashed and I had no choice but to fight him until two of my other brothers were in danger. The fight was hard but we gave it our all but... He attacked my twin and little brother and I had to get my older brother to reach them... I was the only one who was left and could keep everyone safe. So... I..." He stopped as he looked to the side.
"You had to sacrifice yourself for them..." Kayla finished as she wrapped his side with a clean bandage.
"Yeah... I told a friend to close the portal. But then... everything is hazy after that... All I remember is... a golden light and finding myself in an alley." Leo finished as Kayla finished.
"Must be rough huh?" She said solemnly.
"Heh, yeah. If there was something you gotta do to protect the ones you hold dear." Leo said.
"You'd do anything for them to make sure they're safe." They both said at the same time.
This made them look at each other in surprise and laugh softly before Kayla cleared her throat as Leo rubbed the back of his head.
"I'll, uh, I'll have to fix that leg of yours." She said as she pointed to it.
"No, no, I can do it." He insisted but felt his leg scream in protest when he tried to move it and he felt like crying. Oh why does the Pizza Supreme in the sky hate him?!
"Oh Pizza Supreme anchovies!" He cried out in pain.
Kayla covered her mouth as her shoulders started to shake from contained laughter. Even though Leo was in pain, what he said made her laugh.
"I'll... I'll help you." Kayla said while trying not to laugh as she helped Leo sit up.
She took his foot in her hand gently before looking at him for permission to realign the bone. He nodded as he bit onto something and with a pull, the bone popped back into place and Leo barely contained the shout that almost escaped.
"Looks like you'll have to stay off your feet until I find something to help you walk around." She said as Leo breathed heavily.
"Give it a few days or so." Leo said as he fell back on the bed before his stomach rumbled.
"When was the last time you ate?" Kayla asked.
"Um... After I broke my twin's pizza box stack record." Leo said as Kayla shook her head before she stood up.
"Looks like I'll have to run to the store again and buy some food for us to eat." She said before growing worried.
"You'll be okay alone for a moment right?" She asked.
"I'll be fine, señorita." Leo reassured her as she nodded before grabbing the medical supplies she had used before putting them back in their rightful spots before opening the front door and locking it to make sure no one comes in and sees Leo.
She made sure she still had enough money before going to the same store and started to shop for the same food and necessities she had purchased before but her thoughts kept on wandering back to Leo. He's such a mysterious mutant that's like a puzzle that she needs to know and figure out.
Once she came up to the cashier and paid for the food, she left the store. She wanted some time to think and she knew she had seen a park so she went there to gather her thoughts. Fireflies fluttered about in a spectacle of dancing lights. She sighed softly. Why does it feel like she wants to get to know Leo better? She only met him but yet, it felt like there was an instant connection between them. She wants- no, she needs to know why.
Music started to play as she started to sing as she walked through the park.
Kayla: Why does he seem so different?
Why do I want to know him more?
Why does my heart yearn for something different?
What happened to him before he came here
Could there be something that I haven't seen?

She sighed as she started her trek back to her apartment but she couldn't help but think about Leo again and it made her blush lightly.
Kayla: Why does he look so human?
Why does he hide his face?
Why do I feel so shy when we meet?
What's with the jokes and puns?
Why do they make me laugh in joy?
Could there be new horizons to see?
All these questions keep turning and
Churning and burning inside me!

She looked to the skies to see the stars twinkling and sparkling with the moon shining brightly.
Kayla: I need to know these answers,

Unknown to Kayla, Leo was looking out the window and looking at the stars and moon as well. He let out a sigh. Why does she seem so different from everyone else? Why does his heart feel at ease with her around? What makes her so different from April, Sunita and Cassandra who he sees as sisters and friends?
He looked to the skies again as music started and he started to do something he doesn't do sometimes around with his family. There was the exception when he beat the box to Donnie's library rap when he and his brothers were looking for a book to free Mayhem from the mirror and played the guitar in the Albearto land gig. He started to sing.
Leo: Isn't she just so strange in a good way,
Kind with a temper and bright?
Different from the girls that
I've known in my life.
A bird landed in the windowsill as it chirped curiously at him as he looked at it.
Leo: What does she thinks of me?
