The next day in New York, Kayla grumbled as she hit the alarm clock on her desk before sitting up with a groan and yawn. She lay back down on the bed as she stared at the ceiling with her sleepy mind. Why does it feel like she's missing something and- She sniffed the air. Was that smoke?! She jolted up before jumping out of the bed and rushed to the kitchen.

"Leo?!" She exclaimed in alarm as Leo opened the window to the kitchen.

"Okay, that was a bad idea." Leo coughed from the smoke.

"What are you doing out of bed? You should be resting." Kayla said as she approached him and dumped the poor burnt frying pan in the sink and soaked it with water.

From the smell alone, she could tell they were burnt eggs.

"Yeah but I got hungry." He said.

"But what are you doing... out of... bed...?" She trailed off as she turned to him and was surprised

The injuries from last night looked like they were never there aside from the still band aid side and how he put most of his leg on his good one.

"Like I said, I was hungry." Leo shrugged but shifted when he caught her staring.

"What... What happened to most of your injuries?" She asked in confusion.

"Oh that? Um, I have fast healing. It's a mutant turtle thing." Leo explained.

"Oh, well, how about I make us some breakfast since you seem to have a curse in the kitchen." Kayla said as she gestured to the frying pan.

"My little brother said the same thing when I accidentally ruined the food for Thanksgiving." He laughed slightly as he sat down as Kayla grabbed another frying pan and got to work on their breakfast.

"What did you do?" She asked curiously as she made sure the fire wasn't too high or low but just right as she cooked them some french toast.

"Accidentally set the turkey on fire. I just looked at it and it burst into flames." He said and caused Kayla to snort as she flipped the toast to cook it evenly.

"How does that even happen?" She asked as she got them some orange juice.

"No idea." Leo said as he rested his head on his arms.

Kayla looked at him as she put a plate of french toast in front of him with a glass of orange juice as she got herself some french toast and orange juice as well.

"Did you even get some sleep last night?" Kayla asked.

"Tried to but my insomnia and nightmares kept me up." Leo muttered sleepily as he munched on the french toast.

"Oh. Wow. These are amazing." Leo said as he continued to munch on the food.

"Thanks. My... friend makes the best breakfast. She's a baker's daughter. Wonder how they're doing though..." Kayla said but whispered the last part, though Leo heard it but chose to ignore it.

"Consider breakfast as an apology and a thank you for last night." She said after shaking her head.

"Well, gotta say. Love the breakfast, amiga." Leo said after swallowing.

"What's with the whole... señorita and amiga thing? Mexican or something?" Kayla asked curiously as she drank her juice but that made Leo laugh.

"No. I'm a New Yorker. Raised by his dad alongside three brothers." Leo said cheerfully but his shoulders slumped.

"Hey, you okay?" Kayla asked in concern when she noticed the change in demeanor.

"It's just... I've only been here for a day and... I already miss my brothers, dad and friends..." Leo said sadly.

Kayla looked at him quietly before looking down at her glass. Just Leo talking about missing his family makes her miss her friends who she considers a second family. She took a deep breath and put her hand on top of his, making him look at her in surprise.

"I... I know what it's like when you miss those you know and care about. I already miss my friends when I moved here yesterday... They're... like a second family to me." She said gently as Leo looked at her silently before smiling softly.

"Thanks." He said as Kayla smiled back.

They both continue to smile at each other before realizing it and blushing heavily while pulling their hands away from each other. There's that feeling in their hearts again. What's going on?!

Kayla and Leo heard a knock on the front door and a voice speaking on the other side as they looked at the door in surprise.

"Hello? Are you the new neighbor? I would like to talk with you if you have a sec." This made the two alarmed.

Kayla became worried and alarmed if another human finds out about Leo, they're doomed!

"Oh frag. It's one of the neighbors. Quick, Leo, you have to..." Kayla started but trailed off.

When Kayla looked at where Leo was, he was gone as if he had magically vanished.

"Hide?" She finished before mentally hitting her head. She forgot that Leo's a ninja.

The neighbor outside was knocking again and Kayla went to the door and gently opened it to see who it was.

"Hey." The person greeted her.

"Look- AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!" Kayla started only to end up screaming.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The one on the other side screamed as well.

When Kayla opened the door, she saw a dog creature standing on its two feet and wearing clothes like a normal person or human.

"Whoa! That was really scary. Mind telling me what we are screaming at?" The dog creature said as he laughed good naturedly but Kayla was internally freaking out. What the heck?!

"Stay back!" Kayla exclaimed in alarm and surprise.

"Who, me?" The dog creature pointed to himself in confusion.

"I'm warning you." Kayla said warily.

Kayla, who is getting nervous, began to look for something that was scary and that could be used as a weapon. She saw her umbrella nearby and grabbed it in self defense while holding it in front of her.

"I have this. And I'm not afraid to use it." She warned him.

"An umbrella? Why would you use that ag… ag… ag… ACHOOO!!!" The dog creature said but his nose started to itch before letting out a loud sneeze.

Kayla was able to open the umbrella and protect herself from the snot that came from the sneeze as she looked from behind the umbrella to see the dog creature wiping his nose with a hanky.

"Oh… that was strong. Wow, you were right to use that umbrella. Boy, those allergies are no joke." The dog creature sniffed but had a friendly grin.

"Ew!" Kayla cringed as she shook the umbrella off the snot but she'll have to clean it or buy a new one as she looked at the dog creature.

"Okay, I don't know who or what you are but I suggest you leave before someone gets hurt, mainly you…you…overgrown… mutt?" She said but was a bit unsure since he doesn't seem mean looking and she can tell that he was friendly.

"Mutt? Wow. That's really insulting. I would've gone for a fleabag or something less offensive." The dog creature said, he looked amused from it instead.

"But anyways, I'm sorry if I startled you. Allow me to present myself properly. My name is Hound Dupper Jeffrey." He introduced himself as Kayla lowered the umbrella slightly.

"Dupper is a family name?" She asked curiously.

"More like a middle name. I got it from my great, great, great grandfather who got it from his great, great, great, great, great grandfather who got it from his great, great, great, great, great, great, great..." Hound started but Kayla raised his hand to politely tell him to stop.

"Okay, okay I get it. Family name, keep it at that." She said a bit surprised yet she's still wary.

"Mind telling me what are you doing here? And why are you using vacation clothes?" Kayla asked curiously while gesturing to his get up.

"Oh that. Well, it's because it's summer and I love looking the part, though I've never been on an actual vacation." Hound explained with a grin as he looked at Kayla.

"Correct me if I'm wrong but you are new here right? Because you have the kind of look that says 'Why am I seeing a huge talking dog that walks in it's paws like a normal human?'" He said with a knowing look as if already used to having people do it.

"Uh… yeah, I'm new here. I'm new to this city to be exact. I just moved in…" Kayla said as she rubbed the back of her head nervously. It's a habit when meeting new people.

"Ha! Well that explains it." Hound barked out a laugh out of amusement which made Kayla's mouth twitch upwards.

"No wonder you were surprised. No one has ever told you how things go in the city." He said which made Kayla look at him in confusion. What did he mean by that?

"In this city?" She asked in confusion.

"Yeah. And trust me, you'll be in for a surprise. If you wanna go now, I suggest we go." Hound suggested before a noise was heard in the kitchen as it had seemed that someone had gotten hurt or something.

"Ow! Ow! Man, that hurts." Leo hopped on one foot while holding his bad foot while glaring at the fork that was on the floor

Leo appeared where Kayla and Hound are. Kayla gets a bit nervous since this will surely lead to trouble while Hound raises an eyebrow in amusement. When Leo looked up and saw Hound standing on the other side of the door, he was surprised and shocked that his mouth was gaped from both surprise and shock.

"Hi. How you doin'?" Hound greeted him friendly as Leo waved uncertainty while looking at Kayla who shrugged.

"Is that a…" Leo started as he glanced at Hound in confusion as Kayla nodded.

"A talking dog walking on two legs and using vacation looking clothes? You bet, buddy." Hound said knowingly with a friendly smile.

"Mind I ask what are you? You look like some sort of frog or turtle? I can't tell because of the bandages." Hound said curiously as Leo looked at him.

"I'm a turtle. Name's Leo." Leo introduced himself. This Hound guy is giving off friendly vibes which make him feel relaxed.

"Nice to meet you, Leo. My name is Hound Dupper Jeffrey." Hound introduced himself as he offered a handshake to which Leo returned.

"Now that this is solved. Can you tell us the reason for your visit?" Kayla asked curiosity.

"Oh right. Well as I was able to confirm. It seems that you, Miss, uh,…what's your name?" Hound said but grew confused since he never got her name.

"Kayla." Kayla introduced herself with a friendly smile.

"Right, Kayla. As I was saying, I figured that since you're new in town that you didn't know what kind of city New York is." Hound said as Leo raised a non-existent eyebrow at him.

"Actually I do since I live here." Leo said, Hound looked curious and surprised.

"Live here?" He asked curiously

"Yeah, I mean..." Leo said but one look from Kayla, who was gesturing for him to stop made him stop.

"Don't mind him. He got hit too many times in the head." Kayla said with a nervous laugh.

"Yeah that would explain certain stuff. So, uh, I was thinking that since you and your… companion are new. How about I show you guys around?" Hound offered.

"Oh, uh… I don't think it's a good idea with Leo still healing." Kayla said a bit unsure and worried that Leo might reopen his wounds again.

"I don't mind. Plus I already told you. I heal fast." Leo reassured him with a smile which put Kayla at ease but she was still worried.

"Yeah, but…" Kayla said a bit unsure.

"Come on, Kayla. We could use some fresh air. And I mean that literally since there's still this smell of burned eggs." Leo said as he gestured to the burnt pan in the sink. Kayla pursed her lips. Leo's probably right. Maybe some fresh air would be nice.

"Ah, so that's why it smelled like something had burned. Here I thought I was the only one who smelled it." Hound chuckled before looking at the two teens.

"So, uh, who's ready for a tour in the city?" He asked.
