Isabella tuned out her history teacher's boring lecture and began to daydream, absentmindedly drawing embellishments on her notes page. It was quickly becoming more drawings than facts about history, as it often did, but no one would ever see her notes so it didn't really matter. Suddenly, someone squeezed past her desk. She looked up to see Phineas had gotten up to sharpen his pencil, that simple action a hundred times more interesting to her than the history lesson simply because it was Phineas. Look at how he's trying to be quiet with the pencil sharpener so he won't disturb the teacher! He's so considerate and thoughtful! Sighing, Isabella stared back down at the paper, continuing to draw without really thinking. She saw Phineas pass her desk again out of the corner of her eye, this time seeming a little slower somehow. I wonder if he's as bored as I am, and he just sharpened his pencil as an excuse to walk around. She drifted in and out of focus throughout the final ten minutes of class, until finally the bell rang.
"Alright class," her teacher began, "We'll have to finish the lesson tomorrow… only do questions 1-8 on the homework sheet tonight!" The class was already quickly shoving their books and papers in their backpacks so they could leave as fast as possible. Isabella had only just snapped out of her trance and began to put her pencils away when Phineas walked over to her, having already put everything in his backpack.
"So, Mrs. Flynn…" he began, a teasing grin quickly spreading across his face. Isabella stared at him for a moment in confusion, then looked down at her notebook. In the center of the page was a mess of hearts, surrounding a large heart with P + I written in the center, and the name she hoped to have in the future written in perfect cursive in a spot underneath. Isabella Flynn ~ Mrs. Flynn. Isabella immediately turned red and slammed the notebook shut, turning to hide her face from Phineas.
"N-nothing to see here! You didn't see anything!" He just smiled, amused, as she quickly put away her school supplies.
"You know," he began, once she had stood up and put on her backpack, "I like the sound of that name, too." Isabella, who had been avoiding his gaze out of embarrassment, finally looked up at him and he winked at her, causing her to flush an even darker shade of red.
"Is that so, Mr. Flynn?" she asked coyly, looking up at him through her lashes.
"Absolutely, Mrs. Flynn," Phineas replied, and the pair just stared at each other for a moment, blushing and smiling.
"Ahem."
Phineas and Isabella jumped at the sound of someone clearing their throat and whipped around to see their history teacher behind them, looking unamused. The classroom was now empty except for them, and their teacher had a lunch bag in his hand, clearly wanting to leave for his lunch break but unable to until all of his students had left.
"Time to go now, Mr. and Mrs. Flynn," he said, pushing them towards the door.
"S-sorry, sir!" the pair stammered, stumbling into the hall as embarrassment washed over them. Their teacher said nothing more as he locked the door behind them and headed down the hall. Isabella glanced over at Phineas, who was now as red as she was, and smirked with satisfaction.
"Now you know what it feels like," she said, thinking of all the times he had teased her and gotten her flustered.
"What?" Isabella just winked at him in response.
