Daughter of Black
Chapter 5
Three years later.
Harry James sat in his room reading a book on pranks that he and Lizzy could play on Sirius and Remus. He found one that makes the victim sing any song the caster wanted them to, and another one that forced the victim to tell their deepest, darkest secret. Harry leafed both pages, and got up. Today was his eleventh birthday, and he was finally going to get his Hogwarts letter. Lizzy had gotten hers last week on her birthday, but Sirius said they had to wait to go to Diagon Alley until Harry received his letter.
At around half ten, Harry looked up when he heard a tapping on the window. He quickly jumped up and raced over to let the tawny owl in. He took his letter, and fed the owl a piece of bacon as compensation. The owl took the proffered morsel, and took off, flying through the window. Harry excitedly ran to his uncle's room, and jumped on his bed, trying to rouse the animagus from his deep sleep.
Sirius kept his eyes closed, even though he had been awake for a good ten minutes. Then, when Harry least expected it, Sirius jumped on top of Harry, causing the eleven year old to let out peals of laughter as Sirius tickled him. Lizzy walked into the room with one eyebrow raised, and decided to stop the two rolling on the ground by dumping the glass of water she was holding on the two wizards.
Sirius and Harry each got evil grins on their faces, and pulled her down as well. Finally, after the tickle fight was over, Harry remembered why he woke Sirius. "I got my letter!" he said excitedly. "Well we'll just have to make a trip to Diagon Alley today then, won't we." he said with a grin on his face. The children jumped up excitedly, and left the room, intending on getting ready for the day.
After the kids were showered and dressed, and Sirius had his breakfast, the family (Sans Remus who had to work at the local muggle library) flooed to the Leaky Cauldron, and made their way out through the back of the pub. Sirius tapped the required bricks, making the wall shift, admitting the three into the finest wizarding shopping district the whole country.
Harry was immediately drawn to Quality Quidditch supplies, where he saw the Numbus 2000 that he had been wanting so badly. Alas, Sirius pointed out that first years weren't allowed to bring their own brooms. But he bought it anyway for use at home. Harry cheered up at that, and they were off to Madam Malkins robes for all occasions.
When they walked into the shop, they noticed a blonde boy being fitted for robes. "Hogwarts?" Asked the woman fitting the boy. Sirius affirmed by telling her they needed a full set of everyday robes and uniforms for school, as well as satin lined cloaks for winter in Scotland. The boy nodded at Harry, but before he had a chance to introduce himself, a woman who looked like the boy's mother walked in.
"Cissy, i haven't seen you in years." Sirius said by way of a greeting. The woman smiled. "Hello cousin." she said with an air of privilege. Narcissa Malfoy Nee Black had always been one of Sirius' favorite cousins, next to Andromeda Tonks Nee Black. Sirius Hated his family save for three people. He had come from a line of pureblood bigots, and was shunned when he was sorted into Gryffindor.
Narcissa had been a Ravenclaw like her sister Andromeda. Although Andromeda had been disowned like Sirius. The reason, Andromeda married what hos family charmingly referred to as a mudblood. Where-as Narcissa married pureblood Lucius Malfoy.
While the adults talked, the children got to know eachother. Harry found he liked the boy whose name was Draco Malfoy. they went on about how the father figures in their lives wouldn't let them bring their brooms to school. and then the conversation divulged into a discussion about quidditch, and Harry's new Nimbus 2000. Sirius looked at the kids and smiled at how quickly Harry had made a new friend.
A little while later, Sirius and Narcissa ushered the kids into the book shop for their school books, ink, quills, and everything they needed in there. "So,why isn't Lucy here with you?" Asked Sirius. "He was called into the Ministers office, so he couldn't be here." She explained, choosing to ignore the passive aggressive nickname Sirius had given to her husband. "Well I'm happy we were able to catch up." He said, paying for the children's supplies. The two adults said their goodbyes, and the kids did the same.
Next, they went to get their cauldrons. Finally, it was time to get their wands. While the children were being measured, Sirius went to Eyelops Owl Emporium, and picked out two gorgeous owls, one was black, and the other was white. When he returned to Olivanders, the children were finished, and he gave them each an owl. Harry received the white owl, in which he named Hedwig. And Lizzy got the black owl, and she named him Obsidian.
The family stopped at the new restaurant in Diagon Alley called Wondrous Witches. When their bellies were full, and the children could barely keep their eyes open, Sirius apparated them home, where they promptly went to bed. The next day was Harry's birthday party. He had invited all of the Weasley's. He really didn't want to invite Ron, but Sirius said it would be rude not too, so he grudgingly invited him too.
Ron ended up throwing a tantrum because Harry got a new broom for his birthday, and all he got for his birthday was a grungy old with a missing toe. Sirius and Remus got deathly pale. "Can we see this rat?" Asked Remus. A bit startled at that, Ron pulled a sleeping Scabbers out of his pocket.
Sirius, if possible got even paler until he resembled a vampire. 'Stupify' Remus said through gritted teeth, waving his wand. The rat stilled. Then Remus did some sort of incantation that made the rat start growing and morphing, until he became a squat, fat, grubby man with large front teeth. His eyes were darting all over the place, but he couldn't move or speak because of the spell. Sirius, would you please go floo call Dumbledore and Moody? I believe we have caught ourselves a traitor. Said Remus calmly. Even though he was about to crumble on the inside.
Sirius obeyed his friend, and ran into the house to do just that. five minutes later, Mad Eye Moody stepped out of the fire along with Dumbledore. followed by the Minister of Magic. As soon as Moody saw Pettigrew, he immediately sent ropes from his wand, wrapping themselves around the rat. "Thank you for bringing the traitor to our attention. We will owl you the hearing date within the week." Said Moody. And with those words, they went back through the floo.
Sirius ended up buying a tiny owl for Ron, which he had taken away right away because of his attitude towards Harry. That night, as the children slept, The two Marauders poured a glass of fire whisky, and reminisced about times past. "What i'm most grateful fore is that the rat is finally in azkaban, and I'm truly free." "Here Here." Said Remus, slurring his words a teeny bit. The two best friends finished off their drinks, and adjourned to their respective rooms.
