Daughter of Black
chapter 6
The light of the morning cut through Lizzy's eyelids like a dagger through fresh butter. She groaned when she saw the time. "Why do i always have to wake up hours before everyone else?" she asked out loud, to nobody in perticular. She sighed, and got out of bed. She padded her way to her private bathroom so she could take a shower and brush her hair/teeth.
She emerged from the shower fourty five minutes later, feeling refreshed and ready for the day. When she decended the stairs, she was greated by the family house elf Flopsy. "Can Flopsy get Missus some breakfast?". The elf squeeked. Lizzy asked for blueberry pancakes with hot maple syrup and sausage for breakfast with a glass of butterbeer. Lizzy ate in silence, and returned to the kitchen to put her plate in the sink for the elf.
When she left the kitchen again, she saw Sirius, Remus and Harry eating their breakfast. When they were all finished and washed up, the kids went up to finish packing for school. They were so excited, they made their guardiand leave early. They reached the platform with nearly fourty minutes to spare.
Once they got their trunks and owls on the train, they got off again and saw the Weasley's standing there. Lizzy and Ginny went off to talk and hug eachother. The girls were really sad because they had to spend several months apart. Harry and Ron glowered at eachother menacingly until Harry saw Draco, and went to greet his friend.
"So, you're making friends with snakes now, I see." Said Ron, coming up behind the two friends. "It's none of your business Ginger." Said Harry in a bored tone. Ron's hands instantly balled up into fists. "What are you going to do Weasley, punch me?" asked Harry, laughing at the very notion. Then ron actually punched Harry in the jaw. "Ronald Bilius Weasley, how dare you hit another student!" Mrs. Weasley's face was a mixture of horror and rage as she grabbed her son by the ear.
Draco helped Harry stand, and Sirius did a quick healing spell to fix Harry's broken nose. "I saw you antagonizing, and i just wanted to tell you that i don't approve. He said, with a mischevious gleam in his eyes. Harry grinned and sayd "Yes sir." A half hour later, the children had boarded the train, and they were off.
Lizzy watched sadly as her best friend in the who world chased after the train. But to no avail, because the train made turn, and the station was gone. She sat back in her seat, and watched Harry and Draco play exploding snap for a few hours, when the lady with the trolly came by with snacks.
"So, what house do you want to be in?" asked Draco, his mouth stuffed with chocolate. "Any house that Weasley isn't in." Harry stated. "I want to go wherever Harry's going. Said Lizzy nonchalantly. Draco got an idea. "Hey, maybe you can both ask to be in Slytherin. Father says the hat takes into account what you want." Draco said excitedly. Harry liked that idea very much, and for the rest of the ride, the boys talked about pranks that they were going to play on Gryffindor house. (Especially Weasley).
The trio had lots of visitors, including a bushy haired girl who immediately acted like she was smarter than everyone else. Lizzy immediately disliked her, so the three also planned a prank on the annoying girl. About ten minutes from the station, Lizzy went to the loo to change, while the boys changed in the compartment. When they finally arrived, they saw a mammoth of a man calling the first years over to him.
They ended up crossing a great big lake in tiny row boats. When the castle came into view, all of the children gasped at the magnificent splendor of the school. The boats docked in a large alcove under the school, and were led up to the entrance hall, where a tall woman with black hair tied into a tight bun waited for them.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you're here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." Said the stern faced Professor. "Trevor!" yelled a pudgy boy, whose name Harry couldn't remember.
Harry and Draco snickered under their breath. The professor left for a few minutes to see if they were ready to begin. While she was gone, Ron decided now would be a good time to start bashing Harry, loudly, to anyone within hearing range. "Well at least i'm not jealous." Said Harry casually. Ron turned an ugly shade of maroon. "Oh Ronald, that color does not become you at all." Said Harry in a mocking tone. Ron was about to lunge at Harry again, when McGonnagall reappeared through the double doors.
She lead them into a massive dining hall with an enchanted ceiling. "It's not really the night sky you know. It's bewitched to look that way. I read about it in Hogwarts a history." Said the annoying bushy haired girl from the train. Lizzy rolled her eyes at the girl.
She was about to say something when McGonnagall stood. "All right, will you wait along here, please? "Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words?" " I have a few start-of-term notices I wish to announce. The first years, please note that the Dark Forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you that the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you." The old man said, with a note of finality. and with that, he sat back down.
"When I call your name, you will come forth. I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses.
Hermione Granger was sorted into Gryffindor. She grinned, and walked gracefully over to Gryffindor table.
Elizabeth Black was called next. That's when the whispering began. "Hmmm, very difficult indeed. I see an eagerness to win at all costs, but i also see a desire to protest your family at all costs." Said the hat. "Get on with it." the girl thought impatiently, with a mental eye roll. the hat sighed. "Fine, i guess it'll be "Slytherin!" Yelled the hat. The students weren't especially surprised, considering the black family history.
Next up was Draco. The hat barely touched his hair when it yelled out "Slytherin!" Draco smirked. Harry almost punched Ron because the boy was telling people that all Slytherin's are evil.
Susen Bones became the first Hifflepuff
Ron Weasley was called, and was immediately placed in Gryffindor.
Harry was called next, and the whispering almost became deafening. The hat was placed on his head.
" Hmm... difficult, very difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There's talent, oh, yes. And a thirst to prove yourself. But where to put you?" "Not Gryffindor, Not Gryffindor." Harry chanted over and over. "Not Gryffindor ehhh? You could be great you know, its all right here in your head. And Gryffindor will help you on the way to greatness! There's no doubt about that. No? Better be "Slytherin!" The hat yelled.
The great hall was completly silent as Harry made his way nervously to the Slytherin table. As soon as he sat down, Slytherin table broke out into deafening cheers. "We got Potter!" they all yelled. Harry had the best time at the feast with Draco and Lizzy. And soon, more first years joined them, and They made even more friends.
That night, after their bellies were full, a prefect by the name of Adrienne Pucey led them to their common room in the dungeons. "The password is Slytherin pride". Said the olive skinned girl. As soon as the children made it in to the common room, the prefect told them where there dorms were, and they went to bed, completely exhausted from such a long and exciting day.
