~Dexter has nothing to eat~
"Mawm there's nothing in the kitchen" Dexter rang out as he was done looking through the kitchen cubbard.
"Well why don't you make something for yourself, Mr. Smarty pants?" Mom answered.
"But I have nothing to make" Dexter said sadly. With nothing in the kitchen, how could Dexter make something for himself?
"Anyway let's go to the store" Mom said, fluffing her hair.
Down at the grocery store Mom and Dexter were busy scanning the aisles for the best foods.
"Look at these oreos" Mom said, pulling some off the shelf. "I just love those" Deedee said in Dexter's imagination. But he himself was in the mood for like microwave food.
"I think I'll look over at the rotini" Dexter said tentatively. It seemed like it wasn't such a good idea, somehow? But of course it was, rotini was delicious. And it was fine in the microwave if you cooked it thoroughly. So he took a box of rotini off the shelf but the box was open.
"Open box of rotini?" Mom said adroitly. It was so on point.
"Yeh" Dexter said. "But the box is open." Then the rotini spilled to the floor because Dexter fumbled with a box that nobody expected to be anything but sealed.
"I'll call the manager" Mom said.
"We got a spill in an aisle?" the store employee said as mostly a statement but also somewhat a question, due to his way of saying it. To Dexter he somehow seemed like a fish moving around with his mop sweeping up the rotini.
"I wanted that rotini for dinner" Dexter said with an enormous amount of concentration, as if he had been looking forward to it for a whole week.
"Yeah, sure" the employee said distractedly.
"Are we going to have to pay for this at the counter?" Dexter asked him.
"Uhm" he said.
"Ok Dexter, nevermind, let's look for more food" Mom said as he took him by the hand (or glove) and they went on to a different aisle.
"I swear they have everything here" Dexter said. That is, everything except mini m&m's, they always had the big ones instead and Deedee wanted the mini ones whenever the topic was brought up.
"Oh hey" Dexter said. "Look." And he pointed to a box of potato chips.
"Ya like those better than the bags, huh?" Mom asked.
"Yeh" Dexter said.
So they put that in the cart and wheeled themselves through the rest of the aisle, but not before going back to the rotini and getting a sealed box because Dexter needed some of that. They finally went to check out.
"What a haul" Dexter said when they got home.
The end
