Wheeee, this is my first male pairing fic, I've been addicted to this pairing for some time now and I wanted to give it my own twist!

This is a slow burn, fluff, SFW Kurameshi fic, the rating might change but for now it's a T.

Enjoy the read.

Restless Night

"Good morning."

Yusuke looked up at the voice he hadn't expected to hear so early in the morning. The slender frame of Kurama made its way to the kitchen, not sparing him another glance. He followed his movement with his eyes, after his battle with Gama, Touya and the merciless beating by Bakken, he had disappeared into his room with a death plant into his arm. Kuwabara and the rest had gone to bed but somehow, Yusuke couldn't sleep. Kurama's words had circled in his head on repeat, the plant was difficult to remove and would take a lot of energy, energy he didn't have.

Of course he had gained some help from Hiei, he had heard his pain filled groans as he sat outside of his bedroom door. Hiei wasn't exactly the type to encourage, Yusuke had to admit he sounded more like he was scolding him rather than supporting him. "Stay awake, fox." "God damnit, concentrate." "You can do better than this." Were some of the things he heard him say. There were a few "You got this." but they were extremely limited, as if he would lose his tough persona when showing concern. Hiei showed concern in different ways, Yusuke knew that. He scoffed softly, Hiei had readied his dragon to raid the entire stadium if Bakken landed another hit.

His eyes locked on Kurama again, having made his way to the kitchen, he stood and opened one of the overhead cupboards. The glasses were on one of the top shelves, easily reachable yet Kurama just stood and looked at them. He sighed audibly before lifting his arm, he stopped when his elbow rose higher than his shoulder. Yusuke could hear a low hiss, a grimace as he lowered his arm again.

Without saying a word, Yusuke stood and approached him from behind. Reaching over, he grabbed a glass and set in on the counter.

"You looked like you needed some help." He said softly, his torso pressed against Kurama's back as his hands leaned on the counter on opposite sides.

"I'm just a bit sore from yesterday." Kurama kept his eyes on the glass.

"Tea?" Yusuke asked as he grabbed the glass and pushed himself away from the counter.

"Yes please." His voice was so vulnerable in Yusuke's ears, how exhausted was he really? He took the kettle and set it on the stove. It was still dark outside, the sun hadn't made an effort to rise yet but here they were, wide awake, he didn't know if Kurama was but he himself sure was.

He poured both of them a glass. Turning around, he was surprised Kurama had taken a seat at the table instead of on the couch. Yusuke joinen him, sliding the glass towards his red haired friend. "You're awake early." Kurama said as he wrapped his fingers around the glass.

"So are you." Yusuke squinted, softly blowing the hot liquid.

Kurama shook his head softly. "I couldn't sleep.."

"You're in pain?"

"No." His answer was quick, wasting no time. He fell quiet after that, keeping his eyes on the glass.

"Then why?" Yusuke leaned back in his chair.

"Why are you awake this early?" He turned the question around.

Yusuke sighed softly. "Because I was worried."

"You don't have to worry about me, I'll be fine-"

"I will worry about you, I will always worry about you. God damnit Kurama I think you went in with the intention to die."

Kurama fell silent at that. "I'm sorry for failing, I couldn't take them all on."

"You shouldn't be sorry." Yusuke's hand crossed the table, covering Kurama's. "You didn't fail anyone. Don't be so harsh on yourself, you're setting yourself to unreasonable standards."

Kurama's eyes met his, the fatigue clear in the usually bright emerald orbs. "It is because of my inability to beat all three of them that Kuwabara was forced to fight again."

Yusuke didn't tear his eyes away, nor did he blink. His brows furrowed. "But he did it, didn't he?"

"Yes."

"Then that's that. We won, Kurama." Yusuke pulled Kurama's hand closer, pulling his sleeve back, he observed the bandage. "You didn't need to do this, you could've stayed down."

He was about to touch it when Kurama pulled his arm back. "I had to try."

"To kill yourself?" Yusuke huffed as he retreated his own hand, taking a sip of the tea. "I was worried about you. You didn't have the energy to get rid of it and I can't stand to rest when one of my guys is still fighting for his own life."

They drank their tea in mutual silence, the sky still dark.

"Do me one favor." Yusuke said, his eyes burning in Kurama's as they faced each other. "Go back to sleep, take the day off today. If there's anything you need, you call me, okay?"

Kurama nodded. "I will go back to bed after cleaning it."

"Didn't Hiei clean up?"

A small chuckle left his lips as Kurama shook his head. "Nah, he can't be bothered doing that as well, he had already done enough, lending me some of his energy to heal myself."

"How bad is it?" Yusuke stood, making his way towards Kurama's bedroom.

"Bad enough to not want to sleep there."

He opened the door, the iron smell of dried blood reached his nostrils and he stepped inside, flicking the lightswitch on. He stood there, dried patches of blood covered the floor and bed. Yusuke murmured underneath his breath as he turned the light off and closed the door behind him. "Go and sleep in my bed, I'll clean it."

"Are you sure? Where will you sleep?"

"Yes." Yusuke took the empty glass from him. "I can't sleep anyway, besides, the couch is comfortable enough for me."

Yusuke set the glasses in the kitchen, he shot Kurama a reassuring smile. Kurama leaned heavily on the table as he squeezed his eyes shut, swaying softly.

Taking a small sprint, Yusuke held Kurama steady as they waited for the vertigo to pass.

"Are you okay?" Yusuke whispered, not wanting to cause any discomfort. "Please answer honestly."

Kurama took a few deep breaths. "I've lost quite some blood..."

"Okay, that's it, you're going to bed."

Pulling his arm over his shoulder, Yusuke helped Kurama towards his room.

"Are you sure I can sleep in your room?" Kurama asked as Yusuke lowered him on the mattress.

Yusuke smiled. "You clearly need the rest and I'm not letting you sleep in a blood stained room." He pushed Kurama onto the pillow and covered him with the blanket.

"Thank you.." Kurama said as sleep pulled him under, vibrant emeralds obstructed by closing eyelids.

Yusuke sat on the bed, his hand running through red locks, the same color which had stained his own room, the color of life which turns to death when the amount increases. He brushed some hairs away from his forehead, the fevered skin, pale and bruised. He will stay, cleaning can wait. He wouldn't leave him, he'd stay until he could be sure Kurama was out of the danger zone.

He'd stay, cause Kurama was his friend, right?

I do hope you enjoyed, if you did, let me know! (you can also tell me if you don't like it)

Shall I continue? Yes... I might...
