Shinobi of the Dark Moon
Prologue: Dreaming of a Frost Moon
Uzumaki Naruto had always believed that he was cursed.
If he were to voice these thoughts, people would admonish him for thinking such silly thoughts but his life proved otherwise.
Lost his parents before he was born.
Abandoned within the village he called home.
Physically and emotionally neglected by the adults and mercilessly bullied by the kids his age.
Nearly killed by a Chūnin that he liked in Mizuki.
But the biggest of all was finding out that all of this was due to the Yondaime Hokage sealing the Kyūbi no Kitstune within him.
It was the last one that put it all into place with him. All of his life, Naruto had felt hopelessly alone but he had grinned and bared it all but after he found out about the Kyūbi, that mask had cracked and he became…broken.
While he knew he was not the demon itself, the fact that he held a being that had slaughtered many of those in his home had caused him to feel that maybe…he deserved what everyone had done to him.
He had to atone for Kyūbi's sins.
At age sixteen, he was a miserable, guilt-ridden broken soul and no one cared. He wished that he could be mad or upset…But all he felt was numb.
But then he came to Wave and for the first time, no one looked at him with scorn or anger….Everyone was nice to him…treated him as a normal person. Hell, treated him better due to the reason he and his team was there…
But during this mission, he met a girl that made him feel hope for the first time. Her name was Haku and she was the most beautiful, gentle, and kindest girl he had ever met. For the next month, he would find himself falling in love with this girl and she began to fall for him too.
He should have known then that his curse would strike…
And it did…
And the cost of that curse was the one person that truly understood him.
"Haku…" Naruto whispered with despair thick in his voice as he stood at her grave, her mask leaning against her headstone. It had all happened so fast. Their meeting in the woods after learning how to tree climb. Their constant meetings throughout the village.
Their lips meeting beneath the full moon, with the ring she had given him glinting in the moonlight.
The same ring that now hung around his neck on a black string.
Naruto was convinced that maybe, just maybe, he had finally received something spectacular. But it all came crashing down.
For the girl that introduced herself as a humble villager was really the partner of their enemy, Momochi Zabuza. And no matter how hard he tried to make her see reason, she was bound to his side.
In the end, he had to watch as his sensei's jutsu pierced her heart.
The heart she had given him just the night prior.
And now, he was left with a pain foreign to him that never seemed to end. What was he supposed to do now? Where was he supposed to go? Back to Konoha? Back to the place that didn't care whether he stayed or left? Back to the place that would rather see him suffer alone or be fed to the wolves?
A part of him truly wished that he had not gotten so attached. That he was the emotionless monster some thought of him as. Anything would be better than this unending misery…
Leaves fluttered around him as he sat there in front of Haku's grave, the light from the full moon shining down on his trembling body, the dark-gray gem that sat in the middle of the silver ring that hung from his neck glinting in the light, causing a soft glow that Naruto couldn't see.
When would these tears stop?
"Why doth thou weep?" A soft voice questioned from behind him. Despite how much it hurt, Naruto sprang to his feet and turned around, a kunai already in hand. But to his surprise, there was no one there.
Had he imagined that?
"Behind thou, child," The voice called. Naruto turned back around to Haku's grave, only to see a peculiar sight.
Sitting on the headstone was a woman. She had pale blue skin, medium-length dark-slate gray hair, and four arms, with the second set beneath the main arms being smaller, and a spectral second face that sat alongside her own.
While her normal face had her left eye open, revealing the gentle frost-blue glow of her iris, her other eye remained shut.
She wore a snow-white robe with a fur cape, a snow-white skirt that stretched down to her ankles, and a large snow-white witches hat that hid the upper half of her two faces, leaving only her lips visible.
Despite her strangeness, she was strangely beautiful to Naruto's eyes but what startled him about her was that the spectral second face she had looked like Haku's….
"Who are you?" Naruto asked.
The leaves that fluttered around Naruto slowly morphed into a gentle snowfall as the world darkened around him, leaving only himself, the woman, and Haku's headstone. Slowly, the moon itself, in all its splendor appeared behind her, but it wasn't like the moon that was in the sky.
No. This moon was….breathtaking.
While the top of the moon was illuminated with light, an icy mist flowed off of it while the middle of the moon was dark. But it wasn't without light as Naruto could see streaks within the dark middle of the moon, which revealed stars within the dark moon.
"I am the witch Renna. Doth forgive mine intrusion on thy dream…" The woman spoke. "But thou bear the ring that belongs to me."
Ring?
Naruto glanced down at the ring that hung from his neck. The ring Haku had given him just a night ago.
"This ring was my mother's" Haku's voice whispered. "My mother once told me that it was passed down from my clan from its inception, up until its destruction, where it fell to me….To give to the one that would hold my heart…And now, I give it to you…."
"Only those whom hast surrendered thyself into thy office bear that ring," The woman explained. "As thou bear thy ring, and the last of those thou once had granted the Shimotsuki to hath faded into the eternal stars, wilt thou enter into mine office and become thy champion, Uzumaki Naruto?"
Naruto was confused and startled when she said his name. How did she know it? He had never introduced himself to her. "W-What? No. I will not your service? Why would I even want to?" Naruto asked her with a frown.
The woman frowned and replied, "I see. More's the pity. Come to me again, shouldst thou change thy heart. Is not as frightful as thou fearest..."
The woman smiled as the moon glowed with a soft light.
With a gasp, Naruto awakened on top of Haku's grave. The sun was now high in the sky and his head lay beside Haku's mask.
And his necklace, which held the ring Haku and given him, sat beneath her mask, where a frost-blue light glinted within the dark gray gem.
Captain Blues: And that is the end of this little teaser. And to answer the question, this is Ranni from Elden Ring, just more...Naruto-fied for what I have planned. So, what do you all think? Do you want more of what I have whipped up? Leave a review and let me know!
