Penny watched as the police car sped away. "Good thing I had been trained in self defense. Otherwise, I wouldn't have made it through."

She sighed and reached into the chest pocket. Penny stared at the golden eagle pin in her hand. It was a token of honor for army people in the war. However, it was also a sign of loss to her...

Penny screamed as shrapnel flew everywhere. She closed her eyes and braced for impact.

But to her amazement, the shrapnel hadn't hit her or her patient. It had formed a not so perfect circle around her.

Penny wasted no time and dragged the injured soldier away and into the medical tent.

"Medic Mannette?"

Penny turned and saw a woman, a few years younger than her. Ginger Morales, aka a soldier that had joined the war before Penny, met her eyes. Penny had saw her many times during her training.

"Oh, Gingy! How was it?"

"It was exhilarating! Bombs and bullets were shot everywhere!" Ginger exclaimed. "But it's fine! I only got grazed by a bullet."

Penny cringed. The thought of being shot haunted her day and night.

"Be careful, Gingy." Penny warned her. "It's okay, Mannette! I'll be back in time for Walter."

"Walter? Who's Walter?"

Ginger pulled out a locket and opened it. Inside was a man the same age as Ginger. He had kind blue eyes and blond hair.

"We have been dating since our teenage years. I'm planning on being engaged to him."

"Good for you!" Penny said with a smile.

Suddenly, a strict voice called.

"ATTENTION TROOPS! TO THE FRONT LINE!"

"We better get to the front line, Mannette."

Penny gulped and went to the other medics. Medics Martin Hook and Linda were in the group.

"I nearly got hit by a bullet. Those terrorists are extremely ruthless." Martin commented.

"At least we have honor," Linda spoke. Gunshots were sounded outside the medical tent.

"Come on, everybody!" Penny exclaimed as they ran through the battlefield to search for the wounded.

There were so many people, fighting. One soldier got shot down while the other was injured in the leg. Linda ran over and bandaged the wound before carrying him to the tent.

Penny whipped her head around and sees Ginger, shooting down a terrorist. "Gingy!"

"Mannette! Don't worry! I've got him!" Ginger shouted excitedly with a smile. "I got him! We don't have to fear! As long as I'm around, you'll be safe-"

The whistle of a bomb is heard. Penny, shocked, ran toward Ginger with fear in her eyes. The last thing Penny saw of Ginger was her face. She smiled warmly as she held her rifle.

BOOM!!!

"GINGY!!"

"Mannette?"

Penny turned and saw Naomi again. Penny quickly hid the pin. "Oh, Mrs Kimishima. I didn't see you there."

"You seemed to be spacing out. What are you thinking? Is the adrenaline still pumping through your veins?"

"Maybe..." Penny said, looking down. "I have been through many near death experiences before. Sometimes, I feel like it may be my time. Anyway, I was glad to have you join me with my case."

Naomi handed Penny a card. Penny looked at the card, finding the words CIFM and a phone number. Naomi smiled back before walking away.

"Call me anytime if you want to join."

The next day, Penny Mannette walked to the Resurgam First Care Hospital once again. After the whole Melvin Donroe Case, she just wanted to relax.

Suddenly, she heard a loud thud from a dumpster. Penny started to investigate, finding the dumpster closed. "H-hello?" Penny asked, not expecting anything or anyone to reply. But her question was met with more banging.

"Ahh!" Penny landed on her bottom as the dumpster opened, revealing...a nicely dressed man. He was an African American man who was big and looked pretty strong.

"Whoa! Sorry for scaring you." The man apologized, scratching his head.

"Who are you and What are you doing in the dumpster?!" Penny screamed, holding her doctor's coat in her arms. "I'm Hank Freebird. It's a long story..." The man catapulted out of the dumpster and landed on his feet, smiling.

"I'm Penny Mannette, Clinical Pharmacist. I work here."

"Fun fact, I'm an orthopedist! I work here too." Hank replied, grinning. He extended his hand over to Penny, who immediately backed away in fear of germs. "Oh, I understand that you don't want to shake hands with someone who came out of a dumpster. Let's go to the hospital so I can wash my hands."

After Hank washed his hands, he o to give a proper introduction to Penny. "My name is Hank Freebird. I am the orthopedist of Resurgam First Care. I operate on the muscular skeletal system to rid it of diseases, injures and other abnormalities."

Penny sighed. "I don't do many interesting things except deliver medicine..."

"Hey, don't be negative! You have a wonderful job, dear."

But a shout interrupted them, startling Penny.

"MOVE OVER! OUT OF THE WAY!!"

Maria runs, carrying a person on a stretcher. He was a 15 year old boy in a suit. One of his legs was broken. "OH MY!!" Penny held a hand to her mouth. "Maria, what happened?" Hank asked. "No time to explain! This guy got into a serious situation and we need to operate on him fast!"

Hank nodded and followed her. A girl, presumably the same age as the boy, was following them. She had black hair and wore a teal necklace. Despite not saying a single word, the girl looked extremely worried.

"Wait up!" Penny called as she ran after the four.

"Gingy don't worry!"

Penny carried her friend on the stretcher, running through the battlefield.

Her friend's stomach was covered in blood and shrapnel, having taken the brunt of the bomb's vicious attack.

"Please hang on, Gingy..."

Penny finally made it to the tent and began to operate on Ginger. The stomach was hemorrhaging extremely badly, blood squirting everywhere. Penny did all she can to stop the bleeding, putting pressure on the blood pools.

"M...Mannette..."

Ginger croaked, coughing. She was struggling to speak due to some pieces of shrapnel piercing her neck.

"Gingy, I'm here. Please, you need to hang on."

"It.hurts so much..."

"No! NO! I can't do that! You're going to get better, Gingy..."

Ginger looked up at Penny and smiled.

"D...don't...blame...yourself, Pe...Penny..."

Penny watched as Ginger closed her eyes.

"Ginger...GINGY!!"

Penny made it to the orthopedics room. The boy was quickly being operated on.

"We need to make an incision into the leg. Hand me the scalpel." Hank spoke, seriously. Despite being cheerful and polite earlier, Hank now seemed to treat this as

Penny handed Hank the scalpel and he began treating the patient. First he cut an incision into the patient's leg.

"Now we fix the fracture. Hand me the screwdriver."

Penny did as he requested and Hank begin to fix the broken bone by putting metal screws into the bone using the screwdriver.

"That's one screw down. 3 more to go."

Hank tightened the next screw. "That's another."

Penny watched patiently. She saw the girl next to the boy, still watching despite the operation still continuing. She looked determined, as though she wanted him to be okay.

"Nearly done. Just need to get the final screw."

Penny handed Hank the last screw and after a few twists and turns, Hank got the final screw in. "There we go. Now let's stitch up this wound and get a cast."

The girl sighed in relief. "Is Neil going to be okay?" Hank sighed.

"He will be. However, due to his leg's condition, he may need to rest his leg and not do many sports for a while."

"I-I'm Satomi Yoshiko, a student from the local high school Glee Club. My friend, Neil Langford had gotten run over by a crazy golf cart driver. I'm worried about his condition."

Penny walked over to Satomi and hugged her. "Don't worry, kid. Neil's going to be okay."

Naomi had just left the funeral for Melvin Donroe. She felt relieved that Melvin's soul had been put to rest. Suddenly, she noticed Penny Mannette arriving.

"I'm sorry, the funeral is over."

"I'm not here for that..."

Penny held what looked to be a bouquet of flowers. White roses, it seemed.

"I need to honor a friend."

Naomi watched as Penny headed over to one of the gravestones. It showed the image of a eagle, flying. The name was inscribed on the bottom of the image:

"Ginger Morales. 1985-2002. Proud Soldier and fiancé of Martin Heifer. May she forever be honored as a symbol of freedom"

Penny smiled, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm sorry I broke my promise. I never forgave myself after your death. You were in so much pain in your final moments. But now, I know better. You wanted me to move on. You wanted me to thrive when you were withering. So...thanks for encouraging me to move on."

Penny placed the flowers on the grave. Naomi walked to Penny, who was still kneeling. Together, the two women silently honored the dead.
