My name is Delia prior . My father and mother are both the leaders of abnegation:Andrew and Natalia prior . I also have two sisters and a brother whose name are :Beatrice , Maria and Caleb prior . Three of them are all three years younger than me .
I born in the city called Chicago. It is a city built after a Hundred Years' War according to my mother . The purpose is to protect the survivors and their children . Our ancestors built the five faction systems to maintain the peace .
The five factions are : abnegation,erudite , dauntless , Candor and amity. Each of them also have their own responsibility :abnegation provides us with selfless government leaders, erudite provides us with technologies and educated teachers, dauntless provides us with protection from within and without, Candor provides us with soundly leaders in law and amity provides us with counsellors and care givers. Without any of them, we can't survive
When the children get 16 years old , then we are deemed to be adult. We have to choose a faction. We can either to choose to stay in our original faction or choose to leave them. However if we choose to leave them, then that means we forsake our family permanently.
I really love my family but I know that I am not selfless enough to do that so I may not stay behind . However my brother and sisters are all selfless enough to stay in abnegation.
Therefore even I leave the family, there will be at least one person to stay for the family.
"Delia, it is time." Someone is calling me . I know that is Caleb.
Today is the day of every third month that I can look at my reflection in the mirror . In abnegation, we tried to forget ourself so we can help other more . I try to find the beauty inside it but it is when I am trying to do that myself , then I find extreme difficult.
I sneak out the room wearing my grey robe . My hair falls down in a long curly wave. I get downstair and my mother is already waiting for me
"I am sorry ." I apologize
"It's fine and sit down please ."mom let me sits down in front of mirror
I look myself in front of the mirror . I change a lot. I have more clear dimple right now . I look more like my mother than father .
"You look pretty." Mom smiles at me
She starts to comb my hair . My mom is prettier . She is thin and tall . She has long blond hair . However she needs to hide her beauty in abnegation. After she combs my hair , then she starts to cut them. My hair falls on the floor with blond dull ring.
"Do you know what Ted is going to do after you choose?" Mom asks
"I don't know . You have to ask him." I shrug
Ted is from dauntless. He was appointed to be my body guard when my mom was pregnant with my brother and sisters . However he chooses to stay with us even when they are born.
"It's time for breakfast. Delia." Ted comes upstair to call us
"Ted I have a question. Are you going back to dauntless after the ceremony?" I smile at him
"It depends on you. If you stay in abnegation, then I will stay here with you . If you decide to go other factions then I will follow you. It is only if you choose dauntless, that I will go back." Ted is very serious with it
I know that he has feeling for me but I don't. I treat him as my elder brother
"It's okay Ted . I don't need protection anymore." I shake my head." You should get back to wherever you belong."
Ted doesn't say anything . Mom closes the mirror and I stand up.
"Go ." I wave at ted
We get downstair . My brother is making breakfast. My dad always dislike dauntless because they are pierced , tattooed and hair dyed . However he likes ted very much. He sees him as one of our family member as well.
"Sit down please ted ." Dad moves a chair for him." You are not only a body guard for us . You are also our family ."
"Thanks mr prior ." Ted sits down beside me .
"I mean that Delia is right . You should go back where you belong. I already talked to max that he will appoint you to be one of the instructor . " dad nods at ted
"However I want to stay with Delia. I agree to protect her as long as I can." Ted lowers his head
I know that he is loyal to me and the family . I start to eat the breakfast after it is served . We have to go to school today and tomorrow we have to run a aptitude test. The test will tell us where we belong, however the decision is still in our hand.
"I am full. I am going to school now ." I stand up." Ted you can stay with the family."
"I have to go with you." Ted stands up too
"Relax ted ." Father let him sits down." Delia is 16. She can do it herself ."
Ted sits down. Beatrice and Maria finished the breakfast in time.
"We will go with you sister . " Maria grabs my hand
We leave the house . There are so many cars on the road but they must be erudite because abnegation doesn't need a ride . We walk toward the bus station. Susan and Robert are already there
"Morning Delia , beatrice and Maria." Robert greets us." Where is Caleb?"
"He is still at the house . We can't be late for school so we leave early." I smile at him.
"Are you ready for the choosing ceremony?" Susan asks.
I know that they are same age with my brother and sisters so they are also three years away from choosing
"Yeah I am ready. I already know what I am going to choose." I can't be Candor because it is a lie .
We get on the bus . I sit down close to the window and a dauntless man sits beside me
"I wander why a dauntless also takes the bus." I smirk at him
He is handsome but not quiet age of my dad . He is looking at me seriously.
"I broke my legs so I can't take the train." The man says coldly.
"I thought because you are too old for it." I laugh
Maria looks at me shockingly like some terrible thing is going to happen
"What's your name ?" The man asks .
"Why should I tell you?" I roll my eyes at him
"I know who you are . Be careful, or I don't mind to throw you out of dauntless if you choose it." The man clinches his fist
He walks away with a stick. We arrive at the school on time.
"Delia!" Abby is waving at me
"Abby!" I scream her name." I am coming ."
I and my sisters run toward her . Susan and Robert come with us
"Why do you guys associated with erudite ?" Susan is offended
"I grew up with her . Maybe I am an exception." Abby giggles." Come Delia."
"What is so funny?" I am wandering
Since she broke up with Eric , then something is bothering her.
"I have a new crush." Abby says in a low voice
"Who is that?" I say
"He is from dauntless. His name is Amar ." Abby is blushing.
Dauntless? If Abby really likes him, then she will transfer
"That's mean you are going to leave ?" I say
"Yes I am planning to. My parent are planning to have a boy. They don't care about me anyway." Abby shrugs." So let's go."
We say good bye to my sisters and brother . We are going to the math class
"Christina just shuts up." Albert is screaming at a Candor girl
"Oh two Candor are fighting." Abby sits down beside me
"We are not. We are just debating." Christina laughs
Candor hates erudite because they think that sometime erudite will lie in order to not admit that they are wrong.
"It's annoyed ." Abby says
Now teacher comes in . She has grey hairs and she is from erudite . All of our teachers are from erudite because that is their jobs.
"So be quiet. We are going to start the class very soon."
I hate math because I am bad at it but Abby is good at it. She loves it.
"Don't fall into sleep. " at the second that I fall in sleep, she holds me up.
"It is so boring ." I roll my eyes
I hear something. I look out of the window . Ted is sitting on the tree resting.
"What fuck is ted doing here?" Abby cover her mouth up.
"Abby Matthew , please stands up ."
Abby stands up. She has her mother's family name because her father just dead .she is a niece for Jeanine Matthew because her mother is sister with her .
"Yes madam." Abby says calmly.
"Just don't look outside of the window or I will tell your auntie or your mom." Teacher let her sits down again
After class, teacher let me stays . Abby waits for me
"You improved a lot Delia." Sister is happy with me
"Really?" I am surprised
"You have 55 last time and this time , you have 70 ." Teacher gives me out my booklet." Keep going ."
I look at the exam paper . I can't believe that I get 70.
"Thank you ." I say
We are okay to go. I invite Abby to come to my house and she said okay.
"Delia." Ted chases after us
"Yes ted ?" I nod at him
"I heard that someone offended one of our leader on the bus . She is from abnegation. Do you know who she is or heard?" Ted frowns
That man is a leader? God , that is horrible .
" no I haven't. However why a dauntless even ride a bus?" I scoff.
"He broke his legs so he had to use a bus." Ted is looking at me suspiciously.
"Okay." I say
We take the bus to go home . Dad is sitting in front of the house
"Good evening dad." I say
"Good evening." Dad seems unhappy.
"What's wrong?" Maria asks
Dad shakes his head . Maria and I walk into the house . Today is Maria's turn to make dinner
