Chapter 8

California Pt. 1

"So is everything okay with the pregnancy?" I asked Edward as he finished with the ultrasound.

"Yes, the babies are thriving," He replied absentmindedly.

It's been a few days since I got out of the maternity home. Jacob has been trying to talk to me, he's called and tried to see me, but I haven't answered any of his calls, and dad hasn't let him see me. I've been staying at my parents' guest house for a week. I was bored out of my mind, but I still didn't want to see my husband. For the first time in years our families spent Thanksgiving apart.

Billy and Sarah were upset, but they understood my predicament, and were sympathetic. Dad wasn't too pleased with Jacob after what happened, in fact, he was very angry. After dinner I placed some desserts on a platter and left the house. I told mom I was going out for a little bit, but wouldn't be back too late.

I snuck out and went to see Edward at the studio. He had gone to his parents home to celebrate, but went back to the studio afterwards. I didn't dare ask about his wife, I didn't care where the Hell she was or why Edward wasn't with her.

We enjoyed the desserts I brought, asked each other a few more silly questions, and shared stories of our childhood. I tried not to mention any one related to Jacob, but it was very hard as he had been a very big part of my childhood. Edward also spent a lot of time kissing and touching my belly, and telling me how much he loved me, how much he cared for me. He also told me he didn't regret the way we met or what we did. He didn't regret anything, but I on the other hand started to question my current predicament.

"You're leaving Seattle? Where are you going?" He panicked.

"I'm going to California for a week, we have customers there. We also send someone to the Gynecology and Obstetrics convention to promote medical equipment, and our office programs which you use, "I added.

"The Gynecology and Obstetrics Convention?" Edward asked. What was wrong with him? He was very distracted today.

"Is everything okay Edward? You seem a bit off," I remarked.

"Sorry, yes, it's just that I have a few things on my mind. I'm sorry, Bella," he apologized.

"So you're flying to California" he stated, I nodded.

He smiled at that, "what?" I was confused by his sudden mood change.

"I'm also going to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Convention in San Diego," he said, smiling wider.

"Next week?" I asked, he nodded.

We were going to be in California at the same time? This couldn't be real, we couldn't be this lucky.

"Really?" I said still in disbelief. "Really," he said, showing me the registration form on his iPad.

"Where are you staying?" I asked.

"In the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel" he said nonchalantly, I gasped.

"What?" He asked.

"That's the same hotel I'm staying at," I said with a smile.

"Wow Bella, love that's fantastic!" He said excitedly.

"Are we going to be able to see each other?" I asked.

"I'm pretty sure it's possible," he said, my heart fluttering at the thought.

"When are you leaving?" I asked. "On Sunday, and you?"

"Same," I replied.

"Well with this new development there's some last minute things I need to get for the trip. I have to go," I told him.

"Sure," he stood up and closed the space between us. He then grabbed my waist and pressed his lips to mine.

We kissed until we were interrupted by a knock on the door. We broke apart quickly, I grabbed my things, and opened the door.

"Thanks Dr. Cullen, see you in three weeks," I said.

He motioned for the next patient to enter.

I drove to the La Perla store and went in. An attendant came up to me.

"Welcome, what can I help you with today?" She greeted me.

"Do you have any maternity lingerie and provocative lounge sets?"

"Yes, come right this way," she said, leading me deeper into the store. An hour later I came out with a full bag of new lingerie and different lounge sets than the ones I'd put in my suitcase already. I was giddy as I drove home.

It was finally Sunday! I was ready for the flight, mom and dad drove me to the airport, and didn't leave until I went through security. They thought Jacob might come and try to talk to me. But thankfully that didn't happen.

I boarded the plane when it was called and relaxed for the three hour flight. I closed my eyes and smiled at the prospect of spending a whole week uninterrupted with Edward.

Sunday, the day was finally here. I couldn't wait to see Bella, to finally be able to tell her the reason I was distracted on Friday during her appointment. I was so happy that we could finally spend some time together without worrying about anything. I loved her so much! I wanted to get an earlier flight but it was full, Kathleen had scheduled me for the second one that would arrive mid morning.

After I landed I grabbed an SUV taxi with other doctors that were going to the same hotel. Bella had texted me when she'd landed and again once she had settled into the hotel. On the way there I chatted with my colleagues about the upcoming week.

We arrived at the hotel and went to the front desk.

"Welcome to the San Diego Bayfront Hilton Hotel," the receptionist said.

"Reservation for Cullen," she typed on the computer and then frowned.

"There's a slight problem with your room," she told me.

"Since we're at capacity, we had to put you in an adjoining suite. Meaning you're in a room with a connecting door. We informed the other guest of this too," she explained.

"There's no problem, I'll just keep the adjoining door locked. I can do that right?" I asked.

"Sure, that shouldn't be a problem. Here's your room key," she said, handing me the card."Have a nice stay, and thank you for choosing our hotel."

I waved her off and headed to the elevator area, I checked my key, and my room was in the last room of the hotel. I checked the message where Bella told me her room number and smiled at the odds, she was the guest in the adjoining room.

The elevator opened on floor 32 and I slipped out heading to the room. I placed everything inside and undressed to my boxers and wife beater, after that I unlocked the adjoining door.
