Chapter 13
Liz wandered around taking pictures, and Jason even did some measurements for her. Arlene called the owners as they wandered around and then met them at the front door.
"The owners accepted. The price includes whatever is in the house and outside that you saw."
"Wow," Liz said. The furniture outside is nice.
Jason smiled. "I can give you a check right now or I can get cash."
"They were fine with a check, but if you do a cashier's check or cash, you can move in sooner."
"Can I start doing the upgrades I want?"
"Yes."
Jason made a quick call. "Diane will meet you in an hour with the cash."
Arlene smiled. "That's wonderful. I will text her and get the information. Congratulations."
"Thank you," Liz said.
Jason shook her hand. "Thanks."
When they disappeared down the driveway, Arlene did a little dance. The commission is going to be very nice.

Sonny eyed Jason as he walked into his office. "What's going on?" He looked different. Sonny isn't sure what it is exactly, but he wonders if it has anything to do with Elizabeth.
"I bought a house."
Sonny smiled. "That's good. Is it close by?"
"Not too far, but no neighbors nearby." An easily secured property is a necessity. While it would be nice for Cam to have kids to play with next door, the safety aspect isn't conducive to that.
"I can't wait for the tour."
Jason nodded as he sat.
"I take it things are going well with Elizabeth?"
A slight smile edged on the enforcer's face. "Yeah."
"Good. You deserve to be happy."
He hadn't seen Jason this relaxed in a long time.
"So, what did you want to see me about?" He didn't think Jason would show his face for a while, so the meeting request was a surprise.
"I want to make some changes."
Sonny swallowed hard, wondering if Jason wanted to change his duties. "I'm listening."
"I'm tired of being reactive. We need to do something to stop threats before they get here."
"What do you propose?"
"I'm hiring two more techs and Cody is going to work on getting some operatives in key areas. If we can get wind of a possible attack beforehand, we can cut it at the quick."
Sonny nods. "That sounds reasonable."
"I want to train a second person to be an enforcer."
"Why?"
"I have a family, and sometimes, they are going to have to come first. If I have a backup, he can handle some of the minor things, so I don't have to."
Sonny sighed. "Are you going to be okay with that?" Whether Jason wants to admit it or not, he's an adrenaline junkie.
"Yes. I know what you're thinking, but when I was sitting in jail and couldn't help save Jake, it killed me. We need to do better in covering our tracks. I want to send Cody for training. Maximus has a person I could use that will put him through an intensive program."
"Cody is good."
"He's hungry and smart. He listens and is focused. His military training helps as well."
"Okay. Is that all?"
"No. Francis thinks we have a mole."
Sonny frowned. "Does he know who?"
Jason nodded. "Yes. It's Kris. We're handling it."
Sonny shook his head. It would explain what was going on with some of their shipments during the Alcazar mess. "How long?"
"It's happening as we speak."
"Good." Nothing pisses him off more than disloyalty.
"I want to invest money in a better camera system. The one we have is too grainy."
"Let me know how much."
Jason nodded. "That's it."
"You've been doing a lot of thinking." He's pleased that Jason is trying to make things safer. "Is this because of your new family?"
"Partly. I had a lot of time on my hands while I was sitting in that cell, and I realized that we could do a lot better than we have been. We've been so focused on making money that our foundation got weak. No more."
Sonny can't help but feel slighted that his family hadn't garnered such introspection from Jason, but if all these changes help him not to be distracted, then he's fine with it since it also benefits him. He knows he is being selfish, but he is glad that Jason is finding some happiness because eventually, that could have been a point of contention between them.

The next few weeks were a whirlwind for Jason and Liz as they packed up the house. Everyone helped in one way or another. Cameron was so excited. He had been on a Spiderman kick, so they had gone with a superhero theme for his room.
As the moving van pulled out, Liz breathed a sigh of relief. For some reason, unpacking seemed much faster to her than packing.
"You ready?" Jason asked as he locked the front door. They are putting the house on the market once it's cleaned and ready.
"Yup."
They embraced before heading to the car.
"I may sleep for a week."
Jason smiled. "Only if I'm allowed to be there with you."
"That can be arranged."
They are shocked as a disheveled Sam approaches them.
"Did you put her up to it?"
Jason looks confused. "Up to what?"
Johnny slowly gets out of his car and makes his way toward them with his gun raised. The camera from the house will pick up everything in case Sam is out of control.
Since the video had run, she had been a pariah and found out there are warrants out in different states for her arrest, so she has been lying low.
"You know what I'm talking about. I know you hired Amelia to ruin my life."
"We didn't know anything about your past, Sam," Liz said. It seems like it is taking the PCPD forever to make formal charges for Jake's kidnapping, but Mac had assured her it would happen soon.
"Shut up! I don't want to hear a word coming from your mouth."
The neighbor had peeked out the window right as Sam pulled out a gun, and quickly called 911.
Liz gasped.
"Sam, what are you doing?" Jason asked.
"I'm righting a wrong."
"I guess it shouldn't surprise me that you don't want to take any responsibility for what you did."
Sam focuses on him. "I hate you now. You threw our love away for that weak bitch standing next to you."
Her attention went to Liz. "I want you to die, so he'll be miserable and have no one."
"I have kids, Sam—"
"They'll be better off without you."
The sound of a police car is heard and then it skids to a stop. Lucky and Cruz hop out.
"Lower your gun," Lucky said to Johnny.
"Fine, but you better not miss."
Lucky focused on Sam. "What are you doing?"
"I'm making him hurt as much as he hurt me." The last two weeks had been hell. Everyone was rejecting her, even her mother, while the liars and cheaters were lauded. She's had enough.
Liz's eyes go to Lucky as she pleads with him to save her.
"Sam, I don't want to hurt you, but I'll do what I have to do," Lucky said.
More officers arrived and trained their guns on Sam.
For a second, Sam's arm lowered because she was tired, but she held it back up as tears rolled down her face. "What? Nothing to say?" she said to Jason.
"If you want to die, I'm not going to stop you." He'd rather her suffer for a while and then get taunted and beaten up in jail before finally dying, but at this point, he's tired of looking at her. She represents so many huge mistakes. All he wants is to live his life with Elizabeth.
Her eyes dart wildly. She doesn't want to give him what he wants. Prison will suck, but she can still get revenge on them. Slowly, she lowered the gun and dropped it.
"Fuck you both."
She grins as she's tackled to the ground. Lucky cuffs her as Jason and Elizabeth embrace.
"Sleep with one eye open," she said as she was led away.
"I hate that bitch," Elizabeth muttered.
Cruz stepped forward. "Can I get your statement?"
They give it to him so they can be on their way.
Lucky stopped her. "I'm taking a leave of absence."
"You're leaving?"
"Yes."
Liz sighed. "Alright, I'll deal with Cameron."
"It will probably be better for him and less confusing." While he hates walking away from the boy, it will be too painful to be around him and watch Liz and Jason in a relationship. Cam doesn't need to be around his bitterness.
She is disgusted by him. "If that will make you sleep at night," she said before turning.
"I'm doing the best I can."
She slightly turned. "I know. I'll figure out what to tell him, but this is it, Lucky. He needs stability."
He watched her for a second and headed for the car.
Once the dust cleared and they were alone, Johnny moved forward.
"I'm shocked she dropped it." He would have already taken the bitch out if the Keystone cops hadn't arrived.
"I'm not," Elizabeth said. "She thinks she is not giving us what we want."
Johnny shook his head. "Well, she'll be in jail for a long time after what Amelia did alone. The other charges will just give us more time to do what we need to do."
"She could retaliate even if she is in jail."
"I'll make some calls and try to have eyes on her."
"Thanks."
He nodded and then turned. "See you at the house."
Jason eyed his wife. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault she's batshit crazy."
"Let's go." He doesn't want to stay there one more minute.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiI
Daylight spilled into their new bedroom as Jason stared at the ceiling listening to Elizabeth breathe. Monica has the kids since they have a lot of unpacking to do. He had hired someone to do the kitchen and pantry, so Elizabeth could focus on the boys' rooms while he tackled their clothes.
The movers had helped place the furniture where they wanted, so at least that was done. Having the kitchen and boy's room done will enable them to go rescue the kids from his family.
His family—it sounds so nice. Finally, he has a chance to have the relationship with Elizabeth that he has always wanted. It just seems like it's too good to be true.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiI
Amelia stared out at the water from the docks. The house she is renting is on the water, although she'll need to move out soon. She just needed to get away from it because it seemed like a prison. A tear slowly trickled down her cheek. She swears she's losing her mind. When Sam killed her father, it took all her family away. Her mom had passed when she was a child, and her father never had more kids. He was an only child too, and because his parents are gone, she's alone. At least Sam will pay for some of the other things that she has done, but it still doesn't take the ache away.
Jason put his hands in his pocket as he approached her. "Are you okay?"
She quickly wiped at her face. "No, but hopefully I will be."
"Mind if I sit?"
She shook her head. "I don't think I'm very good company."
"I wanted to thank you for the reporting you did while I was in jail." Emily had let him know.
"I told you that I wanted to help you, and I meant it."
"Why are you upset? Sam got arrested."
She sighed. "I thought it would help make the pain of losing my father go away, but it didn't."
"I'm sorry."
"He's all that I had."
"Do you have any friends?"
"Not here. I guess—I had a one-track mind."
He rubbed his hands on his pants. "Are you going to stay in town?"
"My contract ends soon, so I'm not sure what to do next."
"Is there someplace else that is special to you?"
"Not really…" She doesn't want to go to her hometown. There are too many memories there.
His phone rang and he whispered a few directions and then eyed her. "Sorry, I was on the way to the warehouse and then I have to run back home to help unpack the house."
"I understand. Thank you for listening."
"Any time. I hope you feel better."
"Thank you, Jason."
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiI
Emily entered the house. "Wow, there is a lot to do."
Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah."
"Where is Jason?"
"He'll be back within a half-hour. He had to run to the office and then he's bringing back some breakfast. You want him to bring you something?"
"No. I'm good. I ate with my mom and your cutie pies."
Liz smiled. "They are rather cute. How did Jake look?"
"Like he wants to eat everything."
Liz laughed. "And Cameron?"
"I don't understand how he talks without breathing. I think he gets that from you."
"No, I think he takes after Jason."
Emily laughed. "Now I know you've gone crazy." She started opening a box that was marked for the living room. "How are things going with you and my brother?"
"He chose us. That's a good start. I think we'll be fine." Finally, she can let her guard down and just love him like she has always wanted.
"I'm happy for you."
"How's Nikolas?"
"He had a situation with the business, but he and Stefan worked it out."
"Good."
"I think we're going to Greece for three weeks soon."
"That will be nice."
Emily nodded. "Yeah. He's talking about maybe having a ball later on in the year."
Liz eyed her. "You don't look thrilled about that."
"Helena makes me nervous, and that certainly will attract her. I don't want her anywhere around me."
"I get that. Maybe you could convince him to have it at the Metro Court. It would be safer."
"That's an excellent idea."
"You won't have to worry about getting people over to the island either."
"I'll see if he will agree to it." She's just happy that she was able to take some time off from the hospital.
The front door swung open.
Jason smiled. "Hey."
Emily grinned. "Hey, big brother."
He kissed her cheek as he made his way to the kitchen. "The unpackers will be here in fifteen minutes."
"I was about to start on Cam's room."
"I got the living room," Emily said.
"All right, Emily you can let the movers in," Jason said.
"No problem."
Elizabeth and Jason ate quickly and then headed upstairs.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiI
Edward scowled as he read the paper. While Sam is getting brought up on several fraud charges, it just isn't enough. Sure, she'll be in prison for a while, but not long enough.
Tracy eyed her father. "What's wrong?"
"I just wish I could get more charges filed against Sam McCall."
"I see. Maybe you should stay out of it."
"I could, but you know me. She is a blight, and I don't want her getting out and hurting Jason's new family."
Tracy groaned. "God forbid…"
"It was a long time coming. That boy has been miserable for years. Now if we could just get Emily away from Cassadine."
Tracy laughed. "You and what army?"
"I hate feeling so darned helpless."
"I know, but if you ruin things, and Jason finds out, you know he'll throw a hissy fit."
He muttered under his breath. "I am not afraid of that thug."
"I have an idea."
"What?"
"Why don't you make sure the story hits major papers in the area where she married those men and took advantage of them? Maybe some will step forward."
His eyes brightened. "Tracy, my dear, you are simply amazing."
"I know. I've been trying to tell you that for years."
He kissed her on the cheek and then ran off to his study.
"Nicely played," Alice said.
Tracy smirked. "I'm going to run to the office and get some work done in peace."
Alice chuckled. This family cracks her up.
