I trudge up the stairs to Marinette, fighting back a yawn. I woke up during the night and couldn't get back to sleep. I knock on the door, putting a smile on my face. After all, its not Marinette's fault I'm tired.
"Good morning….Cat?" Marinette pulls me into the living room. "Why do you look so tired?" "Couldn't sleep last night," I tell her, finally giving in to the yawn. "I know some things about cats, and they like to prowl around night. You don't have a posse I don't know about, right?" "That would give me more friends," I smile as Marinette hands me a coffee mug. "But as the best friend position goes, that's filled."
Marinette pours flour into a mixing bowl, still keeping up with her light teasing. "Oh? Is she sweet?" I take a sip of the warm coffee, but nothing can compare the warmth of Marinette's love. "She can be sweet, but if she doesn't get her morning coffee in the morning, she can be a real sour-puss!" Marinette bursts out laughter. "Hey, I know your talking about me!" she gives me a playful shove. "And for information, if I was a animal, I'd be a ladybug." "A ladybug, huh?" Marinette as Ladybug, I love that thought. "Yes! I'm going to need some good luck, for I'm super clumsy!" "I'd catch you if you fell."
I blush and I can hear Marinette's breath catching in her throat. "Yeah, because you want to be the hero who saves the damsel in distress!" "Hey," I shrug as Marinette clicks on the stove. "All ask is maybe kiss on the cheek." "Okay, that might be acceptable, but wait for me to get in trouble first, kay?" I rub my chin as she pours three cakes into the pan, and the sound of sizzling fills the room.
"As I recall Princess, I'm the one always getting my tail into a jam, so maybe you'll save me first, and I'll get a kiss from you." I tap her on the nose, then saunter away to the kitchen table. As I sit down, the gray skies that came over Paris during the night, open and it begins to rain. "Today would be a excellent movie day." Marinette sets the pancakes down and smiles. "Great idea! I just bought some new movies but I haven't found anyone to watch them with." "Ahem. May I recommend a handsome catboi, in a fabulous black suit?" "Okay, okay!"
Marinette's pancakes are excellent and I tell her so. "Being a baker's daughter, you pick up some skills," she teases as she passes me the orange juice. I poke at my plate with a fork. "I can't even boil water." "No!" "Yes, I've always wanted to learn, but I've no one to teach me." "I could teach you, if you'd like. In fact, let's make dinner for my parents, and we can all have supper on Monday."
I rest my hand on top of hers. "Deal." With just the two of us eating breakfast, it doesn't take long for us to clean the dishes. Marinette runs to her room to get the movies, and I settle on the couch. "Wanna snuggle?" she offers, holding out a thick blue blanket. Another wave of sleepiness crashes over me, but I fight off the best I can. "Sure."
I love the movie about two dancers who are in love but don't know it. However, cozy in my blanket and Marinette beside me, I feel my head start to nod. BOOM! Marinette squeaks in fright, and she buries her face in my suit. I gently pat her back, whispering words of comfort until her breathing returns to normal. "Sorry, Kitty, I'm not the biggest fan of storms." "If I put my arm around you, would it help?" she nods, snuggling into my side, and before I can blink, she's fallen asleep.
The feeling of her warmth so close to me is a new feeling, but a feeling I enjoy. Her eyelids begin to flutter and I hear talking quietly to herself. With my sensitive cat ears, I pick up on her words. "Miss you calling me Bugaboo," she grumbles. Bugaboo?
The only person I call Bugaboo is Ladybug, and I can't think of a time when I called Marinette that. Unless she really is...no, Cat. Don't get your hopes up, just to disappointment. Besides, we all say silly stuff in our sleep, don't we?
Finally, my sleepiness wins, and I nod off.
I feel a poke, and open my eyes slowly, finding Marinette staring at me, and giggling. "How long was I out?" I ask, yawning. "Maybe five minutes," she giggles. "What's so funny?" "You were meowing in your sleep! It was really cute!" "Hey, someone's got to catch that mouse. Might as well be me."
I look out the window and even if the sky is still overcast, it seems like the rain has stopped for now. "You want to take a walk, get some lunch somewhere?" "Sure. I'll grab my jacket. Will you grab the umbrella?" I nod, standing slowly.
A collection of umbrellas sits by the front door, but one looks familiar. Very familiar. Mother's umbrella is nestled among the others, and Marinette has kept it all these years.
"Oh, that's the umbrella Adrien gave me in high school," Marinette says, staring at it fondly. "Its needed several repairs throughout the years, but its always kept me dry. Adrien and I became friends under the umbrella."
We sure did, Princess, and you've been my best friend ever since. "Shall we go?" "Let's." The streets are deserted but absolutely filled with puddles. We dodge most of them, but I can't help splashing through a few just for fun.
I take Marinette to a small bistro, where we order soup and sandwiches for lunch. "This week has been so perfect," Marinette sighs, as she sips her smoothie. "I love our time together, Kitty." "Each day I discover something new about you, Marinette, and I want to know everything." Marinette's face grows sad for a moment, then brightens. "Speaking of learning, I have homework I need to do. I'm busy tomorrow, but I'll catch you, Monday, yeah?" "I'll pick you up from school."
We find a quiet alleyway, we're we can hug in private. But it feels like to soon before Marinette has to leave.
I spend the rest of the day reading and playing video games with Plagg. "Your falling in love with her, aren't you, Adrien?" I open my mouth to deny it, but then I stop. Am I really in love with Marinette? And what about Ladybug? "I don't know how to answer that, Plagg, but she's wonderful."
I scrounge up the courage to ask Ladybug a question I've had on my mind for several days now. "M'lady, there's a girl…." I begin, and she turns and looks at me. "A girl?" "Um, yeah. She's cute and sweet, and I was wondering if I should ask her out on a date?" "Do I know her?" "Marinette Dupain-Cheng." "Cat, you don't have to ask me for permission, but if she makes you happy, go for it." "I just don't want you to think I'm abandoning you, M'lady." "Cat, I know Marinette, and there's no better friend she can have then you." "I'm just a goofy cat, Bugaboo." Ladybug looks serious as she answers. "Maybe goofy is what Marinette needs right now. But I know you, Cat, and even with your goofiness, you have a heart of gold." "Thanks, M'lady."
When I get home, Plagg is in a chatty mood. "So, Marinette, huh?" "Like Ladybug said, Plagg, she makes me happy. And I'm going to be learning how to cook or bake on Monday." Plagg grins evilly as he floats away to his cheese cupboard. "Good thing your friends with Ladybug, because if you set something on fire, she'll swoop in to save the day!"
Enough with the sappy talk, Plagg disappears into his cupboard, and I walk over. "Plagg, would you do me one tiny favor?" Plagg shoves some cheese in his mouth, making him look like a hamster. "Let me ask Marinette one question as Cat? Please?" Plagg swallows, then sighs. "Fine."
Once in the cat-suit, I tap out a message:
Cat: Princess, you may want to have a fire extinguisher ready on Monday. What if I burn something?
Marinette: I'll be with you the whole time, and if your worried about your fur, you don't have any.
Cat: Are you calling me vain?
Marinette: Not yet, but I'm waiting.
Cat: And here I was going to bring your coffee Monday. Purr-haps now I've changed my mind.
Marinette: Oh, did I meson how polished your bell was today, or how buffed you looked?
Cat: Princess, I know what your doing and its not going to work.
Marinette: Oh, cheese and crackers!
Cat: Hey, I'm your fur ball for a reason! Bye!
I detransform before I get into anymore trouble, I grin on my face. Now, its time to get back to Mario. The weekend goes quickly, and I'm glad for it, for the sooner its gone, the sooner I can see Marinette again.
I keep daydreaming about Marinette as I eat dinner alone, or sit by Mother's statue. Maybe I really am falling in love. Okay, Adrien, don't do anything to hasty you don't want to scare her.
I find a blank sheet of paper while doing the last minute brush-up on homework, and write a little poem for Marinette.
When you smile at me, my hearts beats a little faster.
Make my heart beat to a rhythm for us two.
Don't stop being sweet, yet don't stop being sassy.
With Bluebell eyes so blue,
Know this, with my whole heart,
I love you.
Okay, Plagg would probably call it cheesy and I won't give it to Marinette yet. And she says I can only make puns, ha! Hm, maybe I should give her a poem. Whoa, slow down, Agreste, you have plenty of time.
