The Alien Hero

Chapter Ten

Revelations

Darkness. Swirling, dizzying darkness flowed through Midoriya's head. The pain was dull and throbbing, but also stung with exposure to the air. And yet, the pain seemed…muted. Like the threshold of pain had been crossed so far, his body cut off all feeling at once.

Vaguely, he knew he could not feel the ground, or anything for that matter. Yet every time he tried to think, his own mind throbbed harder to prevent it. He had to get back…and save…save…someone. He knew…but he couldn't yet comprehend.

Then, gradually, the pain ebbed away, flowing off his body like an uncomfortable blanket. The air felt like water, cooling the burning sensation throughout his body. He stirred, then opened his eyes.

He couldn't see anything. It wasn't dark, but wasn't really bright either. He was floating somewhere gray, and couldn't make out any shapes or distance. He blinked in the strange abyss. He tried to speak, but he heard no sound.

Where was he? What happened to the others?

D'olo monitored the healing apparatus closely, turning dials and switches as he went. Inside a cloaking field, which was inverted so the Galvan could see, Izuku Midoriya floated weightlessly as the numerous wounds and gashes closed and healed without so much of a scar. The damage carried from his Petrosapien form tore the young human extensively, but were mostly superficial anyway. The real damage was done to his skull and some of his brain, but was corrected immediately once he was teleported in.

Meanwhile, the human Magister paced around the apparatus listlessly, watching his son's recovery. In time, several members of their squadron returned from the fight at the USJ, now that the Number One Hero was there.

A wise choice, D'olo thought. No need to further risk their exposure to the human Japanese government.

Hisashi stopped pacing, standing in front of the hovering boy. Izuku had woken up, looking around his energy pod in bewilderment. Hisashi's face was set, remembering what Midoriya had said.

"Petropia Smash." he muttered. He was always an All Might fan. But it seemed that young Izuku knew more than he originally let on.

And that strength! Clearly, Izuku did have a quirk. Some kind of power-up type. And somehow, despite quirks being incompatible with alien biology, that quirk could enhance his transformations. It shouldn't be possible! Where did it come from!? Inko surely would've told him. Maybe she didn't know?

He's had several run-ins with Petrosapiens, one specifically in fact, but Tetrax has never demonstrated that kind of strength or crystal generation of such a scale.

"Scan him for off-world tech." he ordered. D'olo tapped a few keys. The scan was invisible, and was done in seconds.

"Magister…he has several taydens and some pieces of level 7 technology on his person." D'olo reported.

"He's been in contact with alien life on Earth." Flynn clicked. "There's no point in hiding anymore, sir."

"Agreed." Manny rumbled.

Hisashi said nothing, too deep in thought. If Izuku knew about alien life already, then surely he knows that his powers are not from a quirk. And he's had run-ins with at least one bounty hunter.

Clearly, his son was more knowledgeable and more experienced than he had thought. Or hoped.

But what now? Confront his son? Right here, right now?

No. He already said he'd wait. Take things slow. Izuku has to come to him. Besides, he and Aizawa had agreed to wait it out, see where things go.

"Healing complete." D'olo reported. "Izuku Midoriya is at 100% health."

Hisashi let go of his held breath. "Good. Throw him back."

All eyes were on him now. Even the Galvan seemed surprised.

"Sir, the fight is still going on." Flynn reasoned.

Hisashi nodded. "I know, but they would notice if he just disappeared. And no one actually saw him get hurt like he did. We'll teleport him in, away from Nomu and All Might. They'll assume he was caught in one of Kurogiri's portals."

"He's right." Manny admitted. "Though this is our best chance to hold him, try and remove the Omnitrix."

"Agreed." Hisashi nodded. "Manny and D'olo. Do what you can to remove it, short of alerting him. Flynn, tell Vonaq and Lucy to keep an eye on the fight. Let us know when it's safe to send Izuku back."

"Yes sir."

"On it!"

Back at the USJ

"I. AM. HERE!"

All Might tore off his tie as he stepped onto the scene. The entire facility was a mess, and full of villains. Many had fallen in the battle against Class 1A, who were scattered all over the area. Everyone noticed his entrance, putting hope in the student's hearts and fear in the interlopers.

But Toshinori? His heart was full of dread. His fear spiked as he gazed up at the crystalline structures in the plaza. Diamondhead fought there.

But as he looked down to the lanky villain and his bodyguard, he didn't see his protege.

"Hey!" A criminal yelled from below! "It's All Might! C'mon, this is what we-"

SMASH!

In a burst of speed, All Might rushed every single awake villain consecutively, even knocking out an electric villain holding some students hostage. He'd tend to his students in good time.

But now, it was time for the boss fight. He sped forward, chopping his hand forward!

"SMAAAASH!"

BWOOOOOSH!

Then the underpowered chop was blocked! Nomu held out his arm to catch All Might's strike, which was aimed right at Shigaraki's head.

"So…the Number One Hero finally decided to play?" Tomura taunted. "Nomu, get to work."

POW!

"GAH!" All Might cried out. Nomu punched him, sending him sliding back. For his size, the monster was far stronger and faster than he looked!

"QUITE THE MEAT SHIELD YOU GOT THERE!" All Might commented, almost casually. "HOPE YOU DON'T MIND WHAT COMES NEXT!"Bravado aside, All Might never felt weaker. He only had a few minutes. 6 tops.

"On the contrary."Shigaraki said venomously. "Nomu here was built to kill you, All Might. This is your last fight, so enjoy it while you can."

"NOTHING I HAVEN'T HEARD BEFORE!" All Might replied. He hid behind his trademark grin, buzzing with worry. Where was young Midoriya? He fought here. And there was blood on the ground!

What happened here?

xXx

Mt. Rushmore

"Well? What do we think?" Manny asked. A large machine enveloped Midoriya's left arm, while his other arm and legs were held by blue beams of energy. Everyone else had left to pursue other duties, or keep track of the USJ in the Magister's case.

Within the containment field, Midoriya struggled against the unknown technology.

"C'mon! Get off me!" He yelled silently. His voice couldn't penetrate the field. And all he could see was blank space and a giant machine eating his arm!

D'olo tapped at the console, studying the readings carefully. He nodded silently, working out the inner workings of the device. But alas…

"This is the most advanced example of Galvan technology I have ever witnessed." D'olo said in awe. "Its construction is a work of art. A true masterpiece."

Manny rolled his four, orange eyes. "Great. Let's break it."

"We couldn't even if we attempted it." D'olo waved away. "The Omnimatrix's defenses are too advanced for our lab to break. We'll feed it some codes, see if something sticks."

"What will happen?"

"Unsure. This is beyond my own knowledge and experience." D'olo looked up from his work, observing Midoriya. "This device was made by the smartest being in three galaxies. Arguably five galaxies. There will have to be countermeasures to prevent simple tampering."

"Never thought I'd see you stumped." Manny joked. D'olo ignored the comment, tapping in a line of code. An energy surge pumped through the machine, sending all color inverse, then back again.

"No good. I will try again." The Galvan typed again. A red flash of energy surged through the machine, shocking Midoriya!

"AAAAAUGH!" he cried out. The concealment flickered and died, revealing Midoriya's surroundings! Izuku winced, then stared at the Tentramand hybrid.

"Who are you!?" Izuku demanded. "Where am I?" He tried to pull himself free, but the containment field was still active. Just invisible.

"So much for not alerting him," D'olo scratched his small head and kept working.

"Not your business kid," Manny growled. "Just stay calm, it will be over soon."

"Doubt it." D'olo corrected. Another flash of energy buzzed through the air, to no effect. "Nothing has worked so far. And I'd like to spare the human from any undue suffering."

"Agreed. Magister would have your-" Manny cut himself off, eyeing the boy. He must not say too much. "Tell me your name, kid."

Midoriya looked around the room frantically. He couldn't reach the watch with the extractor wrapped around his limb. And his other limbs were pinned by blue beams of energy. No way out.

"Izu…Izuku Midoriya." he answered shakily. "You?"

"Classified." Manny said shortly. "We are the Plumber's. The sole galactic police system in the galaxy. Tell us how you found the Omnitrix."

Midoriya knit his eyebrows. He felt a light zap on his left wrist. The machine must be trying to remove the watch somehow. But if it was so easy, it would be off by now.

Which means he has time.

And these guys. He'd heard about the Plumbers before, multiple times in Undertown. They were basically space police. If he acted rashly, he could be in bigger trouble than anything on Earth. Not even the USJ would…the USJ!

"Me first." Midoriya avoided the subject. "My friends. U.A! Are they safe?"

"The being known as 'All Might' has arrived on the scene of the attack." D'olo answered, not looking up. "Surely he is capable of saving them all?"

"That's what everyone's saying. Pff." Manny crossed his arms. "Bet I could take him. Just a few rounds and he'd-"

"You couldn't." Midoriya said seriously. "I mean, I've been you. And I could never even scratch the surface."

"Sorry, you've been me?" Manny snapped, walking closer to the trapped human. "You don't know the first thing about being me. A fre…" Manny trailed off, looking away. His temper got the better of him. "Damn it. D'olo, how much longer?"

"There are at least 512 possible energy signatures and ratios to try, to the power of 10." The Galvan waved him off. "This will take hours, potentially days."

Manny pinched between his eyes. This was getting out of hand.

"We don't have days!" Midoriya yelled. If All Might was there…but he didn't make it to class…then he ran out of time. He saw the news reports. All Might was on his last dregs of power for the day!

He had to get back. But how?

"Listen to me, All Might is in danger!" he yelled. What good was All Might's secret if he was dead? "He won't be able to fight off the villains by himself!"

"He is a class 14 power level," D'olo said without looking up. "Surely he can handle a few ruffians."

"You don't understand! You have to let me go!" Izuku insisted.

"How is it going in here?" A whisper of a voice rang through the walls. Flynn phased in like a ghost, spooking Izuku! He reeled back in fright! What was that? The alien seemed to wear a long, dark blue cloak. They had light blue patches all over their arms and legs, which were clawed and three-toed. Their face was akin to an insectoid skull, with bright blue eyes that took up most of their face. Their mouth was a set of mandibles that could open like a mouth if needed. Mist swirled around the being almost constantly, chilling the air around themselves by their very presence.

The necrofriggian cocked their head. "The field. Is it malfunctioning?"

"Yes, no point in fixing it now." D'olo snipped. "He insists that he must be released so he can save the most physically powerful man on Earth."

"Answer the question." Manny was talking again. "Where did you find the Omnitrix?"

Midoriya's eyes darted between the three plumbers. Clearly, he wasn't getting out anytime soon. Keep them talking!

"It…found me." Midoriya admitted. "I was in trouble…almost died. A villain was trying to kill me. Then…I changed. I fought him off, then changed back a minute later. I didn't know what it was at first."

"What did you think it was, if not advanced technology?" D'olo asked, more out of curiosity than anything.

"A quirk." Midoriya answered honestly. "I was…quirkless. Everyone else on my planet has a special ability, a superpower. I thought…I hoped…that this was mine. But I was wrong."

"And you are still…what did you say, quirkless?" Flynn asked.

Izuku's eyes widened. Of course! They didn't know about One-for-All!

"Well?"

"N-Yes." Midoriya lied. "Yes."

The alien's glittering blue eyes showed no emotional tells, no cues in their thought processes. "So if you lose the Omnitrix, you lose the only thing that keeps you in the status quo, correct?"

"I…I guess so?" Midoriya shook his head. "But…"

"Save your breath, boy." The necrofriggian landed on their clawed, talon-like feet. "We don't play games when it comes to level 20 technology."

"It's not what you think!" Izuku insisted. "I didn't steal it or anything, it found me! I couldn't get it off, so…so I just-"

"You just thought you'd use the most powerful device in the known universe to play hero?" Flynn questioned. "Once you discovered what it truly was, surely you must have thought-"

"I still don't know!" Midoriya interrupted. "All I know is it can turn me into aliens. What is it really?"

"What it is," Flynn continued, hovering close to the boy's face. Their misty breath left frost on his nose. "It is alien technology beyond your planet's capabilities. Beyond any planet's capabilities."

"Any?" Midoriya leaned back uncomfortably. "Not even yours?"

"My planet is not technologically, as the Magister says, savvy." Flynn said. "My kind never needed advanced tech to wander the stars, or to make our way in the world."

"And who…what are you?" Midoriya deigned to ask. "I recognise the other two, but I've never seen one of you."

The alien seemed to consider. After a few seconds, he spoke. "I am Lieutenant Flynn, a Necrofriggian from the planet Kylmyys. My kind are an antisocial race, without any form of government, aside from a few religious sects. We live independently, and answer to no one."

Midoriya listened attentively, but something stuck out. "If your ki…necro-fridge-ians," he said slowly. "don't answer to anybody, how are you…aren't you like a space cop or something?"

"Kid's got a point." Manny chuckled.

"The point is," Flynn cut his fellow Plumber off. Like many, your civilization cannot stop trying to advance. To gain an edge, to gain ground, to gain an advantage." The necrofriggian narrowed their eyes in slight anger. "To destroy itself, with their own hubris. We've seen it on a hundred worlds. The Omnitrix has no place on the wrist of a prepubescent larva such as yourself."

Izuku gulped. This was way, way scarier than Kacchan ever was. Flynn's anger wasn't an uncontrolled rage. It was cold. Calculated. Overwhelming.

"Listen…please." Izuku breathed. "If I don't leave here…with the Omnitrix…a lot of people are going to die."

Flynn's eyes narrowed. "Is that some kind of threat?"

"No. It's a warning," Midoriya answered. "The villains. They have a plan to kill All Might. If I don't come back…he might die!"

"Might? Quite a stretch from 'will.'"

"I can't take that chance!" Midoriya yelled. "They didn't go through all the trouble of attacking just to lose! They showed up because All Might would be there! If All Might dies, hope dies with him! I know you guys are Plumbers, which makes you in charge of…alien stuff."

Flynn scoffed a bit. Alien stuff?

"But if you take the Omnitrix," Midoriya continued. "I can't be the kind of hero that saves everyone. I know I'm asking a lot! But please…just let me go!"

"We cannot," Flynn countered. "You have no idea what danger you're-"

"I DON'T CARE!" Izuku shouted, tears forming in his eyes. "I'M GONNA BE A HERO! AND HEROES NEVER FAIL! THEY NEVER GIVE UP! And I'm not giving up today or any other day! I'm gonna save them all! And to do that, I need the Omnitrix!"

"You must give it up." Flynn pressed. "It is not up for debate."

Midoriya opened his mouth to retort, but energy shot down his arm! He twisted in pain, yelling out.

"Galvan!" Flynn turned back to snarl. "Stop the tests now!"

"D'olo!" Manny yelled. The Galvan shielded his eyes from the sparks shooting from the console. The machinery powered down, making Midoriya drop to the ground as the effect faded. He was free!

"Hold on!" D'olo said irritably. The console wasn't responding anymore! Green lightning exploded from within the machine and danced around Midoriya, crackling with power!

"D'olo stop! You'll hurt him!" Manny yelled.

D'olo kept on, pressing keys and levers in a frenzy. "It's not me! The Omnimatrix is rebelling! Some unknown power signature!" The green energy did not stop, no matter what D'olo tried! Flynn flew back for his own safety, unfurling his imposing wings.

Midoriya groaned, buckling under the sudden energization. He couldn't stop! He didn't know if it was One-for-All, the Omnitrix, or both?

'What's happening to me!?'

Instead of a flash, his body seemed to morph before their eyes! Orange fur covered him completely as his eyes disappeared! He was a Vulpimancer!

"ROOOAAAAR!" Wildmutt struggled against the machine, with greater strength than before! The Omnitrix was on his shoulder now, spewing green energy! He changed again, morphing into Diamondhead! "What's-" XLR8! "-going-" Heatblast! "ON!?"

"The Omnitrix is malfunctioning!" D'olo squeaked. "I must disengage the-"

FWOOOOOOSH!

Too late! Heatblast used his extreme heat to melt the machinery off his arm! Manny pulled out his blasters. "Don't move!"

Flynn hissed, taking a deep breath. A beam of freezing air shot at the Pyronite, knocking him back! Heatblast shook his head and flared his body, knocking the ice off!

"Ice…it was you!" he realized. "You were at the USJ! You saved us!"

"Irrelevant." Flynn snapped. "Deactivate the Omnitrix and come quietly!"

"He can't! The Omnitrix is malfunctioning!" D'olo squeaked. "The last test triggered the randomizer function!"

Heatblast backed up, his hands raised! But before he could shoot, his arms went from flaming to ghostly white.

Ghostfreak looked at his clawed hands. "Oh man!"

"I SAID DON'T MOVE!" Manny yelled. He fired a volley of blue energy shots, but they phased right through the Ectonurite.

"Hold your fire!" Flynn ordered. They rushed forward, turning incorporeal as they flew. Ghostfreak did the same to evade the attack!

"OOF!"The necrofriggian tackled him! But they're both intangible! "Wait, you can't touch me!"

"Watch me!" Flynn replied. The both careened through a wall and through the floor, deeping into the plumber base! The walls and corridors became irrelevant as they fought, like a pair of angry phantoms wrecking a house. Ghostfreak opened his chest, letting countless striped tentacles fly out to strike Flynn. Flynn dodged most of them, but was caught by the wrists by about three appendages. Ghostfreak closed in, his purple eye aglow.

Flynn focused, freezing the tentacles solid and breaking them off!

"OWW! That's cheating!" Long black claws sprouted from his normal gray ones. The Ectonurite lunged!

"AAAUGH!" Flynn cried out. Three claw marks ran across their slightly furred chest. Dark green blood seeped from the wounds. "You want to fight dirty, larva?" They engaged, tumbling through the metal walls indiscriminately!

FLASH!

Flynn lost their grip as Midoriya became corporeal again, morphing into Fourarms! They crashed in a lunch room!

"LET ME GO!" The tetramand grabbed a metal table and threw it at his opponent! Flynn seemed to smile as the metal descended upon them. They opened their mandibles…

…and grabbed the table. With their teeth.

"What?" Fourarms gaped. The table shuddered as Flynn devoured it, not even lifting his arms to help it in. The entire table was eaten!

"Ahh. I needed a snack today." Flynn took another breath! Fourarms guarded as the Omnitrix started to spark again.

shshshsshshsshshshsSHSHSHSHSHINK!

A cloud of ice obscured the alien, then a dazzling green energy beam caught the necrofriggian in the face! Flynn hit the back wall, dazed.

Inside the iceberg was a Galvanic Mechamorph, with its head poking out! Upgrade melted through the hole and to the floor, slipping through the somewhat mechanical floors! When Flynn looked up, he was gone! They grabbed their plumber's badge.

"Flynn to all points, initiate lockdown! The subject has escaped custody. He is trying to escape as a Galvanic Mechamorph. Proceed with caution!"

USJ

"DETROIT…SMASH!"

BAM! BAM! BOOOM!

The concrete below the two combatants cracked from the ambient power. All Might sent blow after blow, each one packed with as much power as he could muster. But Nomu was taking each one without a thought in his brain. Barely any reaction at all!

'He's a tough one, that's for sure,' he thought. He was tiring fast. Had to end this quick!

"Kurogiri, be ready." Shigaraki muttered, just loud enough for his ally to hear. All Might backed up a bit, baiting Nomu for a blitz.

'Here he comes!' Toshinori prepared himself. Nomu rushed towards him! In a swift movement, the Number One Hero wrapped him arms around the torso, then bent backwards!

"SMAAAASH!"

But the impact never came! The otherwise finishing move never hit the ground as intended. Rather, they both passed through a smoking portal half way, trapping them both!

"Good work, Kurogiri. Like a lion in a guillotine. Game over."

"Urg…NOT YET!" Despite his defiance, he truly was good and stuck. Nomu made it worse, twisting to grab him by his left stomach! His weak point!

He spat blood with a groan. "Give up! I got you right where I want you!"

"I don't think so," Shigaraki countered. He stood off to the side, giving them plenty of space. "Nomu is every bit as strong as you, and even tougher thanks to Shock Absorption. You don't stand a chance. Do it, Kurogiri!"

"Very well," The smoke villain rumbled. Nomu pulled out of the portal a bit, leaving just All Might pinned to his elbows. The portal began to shrink! "Though I rather detest guts and intestines floating around my system, I will gladly make an exception for the Number One Hero."

All Might struggled against his binds, but there was no way! If he didn't do something soon, he'd be cut in half!

And Midoriya. Young Midoriya. What on Earth happened to him!? Is he alive?

The portal grew tighter and tighter!

"I wonder if you will beg for your life?" Shigaraki giggled. "Well?"

Toshinori grit his teeth. There had to be a way!

xXx

Mt. Rushmore

Magister Midoriya sprinted through the base, locked and loaded. Izuku was somewhere in the base. And if he was still a Galvanic Mechamorph, he could truly go anywhere!

The gray, lit hallways sped past him. Where would Izuku go? He can't get far outside the base, he'd be stuck in the States if he did that.

The USJ is still in danger. Conventional wisdom would state that one wouldn't simply teleport back to their exact location in the fray of a battle.

Then again, based on what he heard in the containment cell…

He clicked his radio on. "All points! Converge on the teleportation room! Do not let him escape!"

He turned a corner when all the lights blared red.

"Emergency defense system activated. Commencing auto-defense grid."

Turrets sprouted from the walls! Hisashi ducked for the corner right as the energy bolts vaporized his previous location! He waited for the reload, then blasted the turrets with his own rifle. They started again, making him duck for cover. "Flynn, status!"

"Headed for the teleportation pad now. I believe he has activated our internal defenses."

"Yeah, no kidding!" He shot down a few more turrets, clearing the hall. "ETA!"

"The walls are now energized to combat density shifting. I cannot get to him via intangibility. 3 minutes."

"Make it two!" He picked up at a run again, now dodging through a red laser grid. Was his son trying to kill him?

"Manny! Can you deactivate the auto-defense grid?"

"Bbzzzznot from my location! I sent D'olo ahead to try and clear your path!"

Meanwhile, in the teleportation pad, a red devil-like alien ripped through the wires and cables under the terminal, forcing it to bypass security! The teleporter wouldn't work during lockdown, which was unavailable to him from here.

"HAHAHAHA!" he yelled, out of control. This new alien was about 2 feet tall and had the distinct appearance of a devil, with pointed ears, tail, and claws to match. He wore a black jumpsuit with a single white stripe with green goggles on his head. "BREAK BREAK BREAK! FIX FIX FI-URG!"

The Omnitrix surged again, making his red skin turn to white and black scales!

"GASP!" Ripjaws ducked down behind the terminal. He couldn't breathe anymore! He slapped the Omnitrix, trying to change, or at least change back, but it wasn't responding!

CRCCRCREEEAAAACK!

The metal doors were being pried open! Ripjaws stood, typing away on the console. "Most recent location!" he croaked.

"Most recent location selected. Teleportation is unavailable at this time." The automated voice buzzed.

"RRRAUGH!" The tetramand was almost through! He was forcing the double doors open! "STOP! It won't work, so give up already!"

Ripjaws leered at the Plumber. "Good luck making me!"

"I will take my chances."

A voice behind him! Above him! Ripjaws whirled around, but got hit with a chill throughout his entire body! Flynn was able to fly invisibly through the door to sneak up on him, then simply phased through the fish-man to encase him in ice.

'Cold! Am I…cold…blooded?' Izuku faded in and out of consciousness. Between suffocation and the quick freeze, he was going to pass out!

They folded their wings and spoke into their badge. "D'olo, you may deactivate the lockdown."

At once, the flashing red lights ceased. The teleporter pad flickered to life. "All functions now available."

"Manny, please lift Mr. Midoriya to a holding cell."

"You got it. Woo, in all my fights, that one was a doozy." Manny lumbered in, picking the frozen fishman from the cold metal. The Omnitrix glowed green again, and started to beep rapidly!

"Hey look! Anyone up for frozen tilapia-"

FLASH!-CRASH!

The ice sculpture exploded into mist, blasting the half-Tetramand into the wall! A blue striped blur zoomed around the room, creating a wind tunnel!

"He's escaped!" Flynn radioed. "D'olo, activate the lockdown! Hurry!"

But it was too late! The console beeped: "Location selected. Activating teleportation sequence."

The aliens tried to fight through the windstorm, through strength and flight, but couldn't get close! XLR8 skidded to a stop, right on the center of the pad.

"See ya!" Pale green light shimmered around the Kineceleran as he waved his claw, blinding them momentarily. When they looked up…

The boy was gone. And so was the Omnitrix.

xXx

USJ

"Don't DO this!" All Might tried to reason with his captors. "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT WILL HAPPEN?"

"As a matter of fact I do," Tomura replied. "And I can't wait to see it all come crashing down! Finish it Kurogiri!"

shshshshshshshSHSHSHSHIINK!

BA-BOOOOOOM!

"DIE!"

A river of ice rushed at the Nomu, freezing half of its body completely solid! Simultaneously, an exploding hand crashed into Kurogiri! Bakugo pinned the smoke villain down, holding him by his metal brace!

"WHAT? Now what?" Shigaraki looked up. Then dodged backwards!

"HAH!" Kirishima attacked from above, missing the ringleader by inches! "Damn it, almost had you!"

"I got it!" Lucy gurgled. She swung a clay hammer towards Shigaraki, which he spun to dodge. The two heroes in training blocked him off from All Might, keeping him from interfering with the rescue.

All Might grabbed the frozen flesh and cracked it, making the Nomu shatter! He leapt out of the portal as it closed, gripping his weak point tenderly. "PERFECT TIMING, YOUNG TODOROKI!"

"You could say that again," Shoto said coldly, his half-ice mask now discarded. "Are you alright?"

"I'M FINE, OR AT LEAST I WILL BE." All Might grit his teeth. Saved by children! He really was weakening.

"...how? You can't…do this!" Kurogiri struggled against Bakugo, who tightened his grip with an extra explosion under his palm.

"Caught you lacking, that's how!" he jeered. "You wouldn't have worried about that attack before if you didn't have a body! Move at all," he leaned in close, grinning ferociously. "And I'll hurt you so bad they'll be finding pieces of you for weeks!"

"Hey now buddy!" Kirishima said with a grim smile, keeping his eyes on Shigaraki. "That's not very heroic!"

"No…" Shigaraki growled. He hunched over, studying the scene with murderous eyes. "No, no, no, NO NO NO NO NO!" THIS ISN'T HOW THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO WORK! YOU BASTARDS! YOU PIECES OF SCUM! GARBAGE! DIRT UNDER MY SHOE!"

"Damn, got a mouth on him, huh?" Lucy joked. But even she shivered with fear. She remembered how his quirk worked. How it made her disintegrate with just a touch. "Don't let him touch you, Eijiro!"

Kirishima nodded, making his arms extra sharp. "Got it! Stay back!"

"Stay back? Stay BACK?" Tomura shrieked. "Why don't you try and make me, you wanna-be! NOMU!"

Behind them, the Nomu picked himself up! All the pieces of him that fell off grew back in seconds! He was as good as new!

"NO! STOP!" All Might roared, but his injury held him back! He'd be too slow! Nomu jumped at the human and lenopan!

SLAM!

In a double backhand, Nomu swept the students right off their feet! Kirishima careened away, digging a crater into a wall with his face! Lucy simply splattered, her purple mud going everywhere!

All Might rushed forward, striking Nomu again and again and again. But none of his strikes took hold! That Shock Absorption took everything he dished out and then some!

But now he had a bigger problem. All Might was no longer the target. Nomu rolled with a well placed punch to the face and sprinted right at Bakugo! Katsuki prepared himself to fight! Even if it meant dying!

But in the corner of his eye, he saw a blue blur, getting closer and closer and clos-

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Nomu slammed his fists down, but his would-be victim wasn't there! All Might slammed his weight into Nomu knocking him harmlessly to the ground. He looked for his student...

There! Bakugo appeared on the other side of the plaza!

With XRL8!

"Midoriya?" Kirishima yelled in astonishment from his hole. Lucy started to reform, popping a head out of the ground. She was just as shocked, just for different reasons.

All Might grinned, the first real grin he's had all day. Midoriya! He was alive after all!

"DAMN IT NERD!" Bakugo roared in the alien's masked face, not nearly as entertained. "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?"

"No time for that!" XLR8 ran right under Nomu's legs and planted his balled foot right into Shigaraki's face! The villain went flying, but Nomu was right behind the alien!

ZOOOM!

Nomu tried to grab, hit, and pin down the Kineceleran, but missed every time. But it was close every time too. And no amount of impact fazed the bioengineered human.

XLR8 jumped up, kicking Nomu in the face 1,000 times per second! Nomu made a mad grab and got lucky! The monster swung hard and threw the alien upwards, right to the top of the dome!

FLASH!

Cannonbolt hit the ceiling, curled up, and bounced back down! At twice the speed of the throw, he struck the Nomu dead center, ramming the monster into the ground! Though his quirk made impacts attacks ineffective, the hero-in-training couldn't be pinned down! He slammed again and again, up and down and up and down and up and down!

FLASH!

Nomu looked up to find his new opponent, but the alien was gone! He jumped out of the hole in the concrete to search. Complete the original objective. Behind Nomu's heel, Grey Matter stayed low and quiet, careful not to be seen. He hopped back and forth as Nomu searched, like a bad game of hide-and-seek.

Then green sparks flew from the Omnitrix! The Galvan grew, sprouting insect wings and stalk eyes! Stinkfly took to the air at once, but Nomu grabbed his stinger on the way up!

Stinkfly then spewed gunk from his mouth, right into Nomu's face! But he didn't let go!

"Get…OFF ME!"

Another surge, and the stinger turned pale white! Ghostfreak let Nomu fall to the ground and swooped in, undetectable to the monster. Slash marks appeared all over his dark body, but immediately closed up as they were made! The Ectonurite changed tactics and plunged his hands into the exposed brain!

"Woah!" Ghostfreak reeled from the input. He could feel the creature's thoughts! It's feelings!

Nomu's soul…was blank. There was no mind. No coherent, independent thought. No self.

Another flash, and the stunned Wildmutt went wild, tearing and biting flesh off the blinded creature. Nomu tried to attack the Vulpimancer, but between Stinkfly's gunk and Wildmutt's detection, his attempts were futile. Wildmutt sparked green, diamonds growing from every hair of fur! Diamondhead slammed his fists into the ground, creating a sudden crevice of rock to send Nomu flying back!

Far from the battle, Shigaraki watched the scene unfold, blood spilling down his face under the dead hand. He watched in shock as Midoriya shifted from form to form, quicker than he could keep track of!

What was this quirk?

Ahead, Nomu finally wiped some of the gunk from his eyes, spotting his target. Now a Pyronite! Standing on his diamond ramp, he threw twin fireballs at Nomu, which exploded on contact! Nomu had guarded the first one, but the second ignited Stinkfly's goo, exploding his face! It was now or never!

"If this doesn't time me out, I don't know what will!" Heatblast raised his hands and focused. He'd never used One-for-All this way, but there's a first time for everything!

The Omnitrix dial gleamed bright green, surging with the stockpiled quirk. Coursing energy spread from the gleaming badge and through the coals of his arms. One-for-All made the orange fire turn white, making the air ripple from the intense heat!

Shoto felt the heat on his face in an instant! "Stay back!" Todoroki thought quickly, willing a wall of ice to defend them from Heatblast's ambiance. He saw that kind of move before. Personally, in fact. The heroes (and Kurogiri) were hopefully shielded from what was coming next.

"PYROS…FLAAAARE!" Heatblast shouted. A white hot beam of plasma formed in front of him, then blasted towards Nomu! Nomu ran right into the attack!

FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSHHHHH!

The walls of ice immediately melted, revealing the shocking scene to the heroes. In the force of the attack, Kurogiri created a portal under himself! Bakugo saw him!

"HEY! GET BACK HERE!" he roared, grabbing tight to the villain. They both fell through the hole in space!

"BAKUGO!" Kirishima shouted in worry. They were gone! He tried to say something when the heatwave spiked, making him harden all over to protect himself! Todoroki kept the ice coming to counter the effect, which immediately melted on contact with the air in front of them.

Nomu attempted to keep walking, but just couldn't advance through the inferno! The fire blast just kept coming, like a rocket taking off! Heatblast stood firm, some of his rocky exterior flying off from the sheer force! Even the diamond under his feet began to crack! He narrowed his eyes in exhaustion. Slowly but surely, the intense beam of light expanded into orange flames, which fizzled out as he ran out of energy. The entire area ahead of the Pyronite was completely obliterated, even carving through the faux mountain ahead, and through the USJ's outer wall.

It was complete devastation.

Heatblast let his arms fall. He glowed slightly, but all his flames were completely extinguished. His knees buckled.

beep…bop..boop…bowww…FLASH!

Izuku Midoriya fell to the ground, caught at once by a steaming All Might. He could hold on a bit longer. For his student. The Omnitrix glowed red, sparking slightly.

"I'm sorry, young Midoriya. Forgive me," He said quietly. "You should never have had to handle this alone."

"All…Might…" Izuku gasped. "I need…to tell…"

"Save it, kid. You've done well. Rest now." Toshinori carried the boy back and handed him to Lucy. "Ms. Mann, take young Midoriya to the entrance. He'll need immediate medical care once reinforcements arrive."

"Of course, Sensei." Lucy grew her muddy arms to carry Midoriya. He was completely out. But still alive. "I have vital signs," she said to seemingly no one.

"The rest of you, go with her," All Might ordered. "It isn't safe here."

"You might have died without us earlier," Todoroki pointed out. "We will support you."

"I understand that, and I'm grateful, but-"

"No buts!" Kirishima yelled, slightly abashed at yelling at a teacher. All Might no less. "Bakugo's gone!"

Toshinori's stomach dropped! He whipped around, looking for his student!

"Quick!" Lucy snapped to Kirishima. "Take him!" She gave Izuku to the redhead and ran off, trying to locate the lost student. All Might tried to take off to search, but a horrible pain in his chest stopped him in his tracks. It was all he could do just to stay transformed!

He was useless. Just like that day. He looked across the plaza, to the melted trench.

The villains! They were still here!

He puffed his chest up, doing his best to look as imposing as possible. He may not be able to fight right now, but if he could just protect his students, everything would be ok! He walked calmly towards the villains, away from his students.

Meanwhile, the blackened stone beneath Nomu was still glowing red from Heatblast's attack. Nomu himself was in a bad way, all of his muscle mass was scorched away, leaving a fleshy, smoking skeleton behind. Miraculously, Nomu was still alive. His lungs still breathed under his exposed ribcage and his blinded eyes darted this way and that. The monster had fallen to the ground, without the muscles or tendons to hoist itself.

And on the other side of the crater was Shigaraki, looking down at his master's pet. The supposed "key" to killing All Might, once and for all.

Defeat. It made the young man sick.

"Game over, I guess," Shigaraki sneered. Kurogiri stood behind him, ready to support his master's protege.

"Tomura, we must retreat immediately, before more heroes show up."

"I know, I know," Shigaraki waved him off. "But look at him." He pointed down at All Might. He was approaching slowly but steadily, as if he was choosing to walk instead of blitzing at full speed. The man stood tall, looking right at them. "That oaf doesn't seem to know how close to death he was."

Absentmindedly, the young man brushed some dust from his hand. "At least…we hurt his pride. Time to go."

Kurogiri expanded, covering them both in violet smoke. The smoke cleared, leaving nothing behind. Another portal swallowed up the broken Nomu, whisking the monster away like it was never there.

Steam billowed from All Might's body, bit by bit. He couldn't hold on much longer. But the students were safe. U.A. was safe.

All thanks to Izuku Midoriya.

As the last bit of smoke disappeared, none other than Katsuki Bakugo slammed into the ground where the villains vanished. He gripped the loose dirt, breathing heavily.

"DAMN IIIIIITTT!" He screamed. "THEY GOT AWAY! WE LET THEM ESCAPE! I LET…I let them…" Explosions popped into the ground from his hands. He was more furious than ever! "GRAAAAAAAAAH!"

"Bakugo!" Kirishima called, still supporting Midoriya. "You're ok! LUCY! HE'S OK!"

"BAKUGO!" Lucy slid downhill, reforming to her human disguise as she approached. "We thought you were gone! Are you alright?"

"FORGET IT!" Bakugo snarled. The smoky bastard had sent him to the demolition zone again! He got back as quick as he could…but not quick enough.

He stood straight up, rounding on the alien girl. "If you! IF WE HAD…FUCK!" He gripped his hair and paced. His breath grew faster and faster. "I HAD HIM! I HAD THAT SMOKY BASTARD PINNED!"

"Bakugo," Lucy placated, putting her hands up. "It's ok, just-"

"NO, IT'S NOT OK!" Bakugo roared. "WE HAD THEM! AND THEN! THEN! DEKU JUST HAAAD TO COME TO THE RESCUE! THEN HE…NOW HE'S…"

Lucy said nothing. She just watched and listened as Bakugo raged. Suddenly, the front gate slammed open, revealing none other than…

"EVERYONE!" It was Iida! "I'VE RETURNED WITH HELP!"

"Secure the area!" Nezu ordered. With him were at least two dozen heroes, including their very own faculty. "Arrest and secure all villains and provide first aid wherever it is needed. Recovery Girl has set up her station just outside!"

Dozens of Ectoplasm clones swarmed the area, cuffing villains left and right. Any criminals who tried to resist were swiftly incapacitated by either Midnight's gas or Present Mic's sonic creams. Cementoss worked quickly, using his control over cement to separate All Might from his student's prying eyes, cordoning the scene in the process.

Toshinori deflated at once, collapsing to the ground. "That was close…thank you Cementoss."

"Anytime. I happen to be a fan, you know," Cementoss said cheerfully. "What happened here?"

"What didn't happen?" Toshinori asked. "It was worst case scenario. If young Midoriya hadn't…"

Other students started to arrive, having escaped their environmental zones and villains. Ashido was the first to arrive, with Yaoyorozu and Jirou.

"MIDORIYA!" she screamed. She sprinted down, tears spilling from her eyes. She hugged both Izuku and Eijiro, sobbing uncontrollably. "What happened! Is he ok? Are YOU ok?"

"He's fine, we're fine!" Kirishima assured her. "Midoriya beat Nomu…but he got tired out. I'm not really sure how he did it…"

"We saw a huge beam of fire," Yaoyorozu reported. "It was more powerful than anything I've ever seen! Was that…his?"

"Yes." Todoroki said plainly. "But the kickback knocked him out. It was strange, to say the least."

He didn't show it on his face, but in truth? Todoroki was shaken to his core. The firepower Midoriya just demonstrated was beyond anything he had ever experienced. Beyond anything the old man had ever pulled off. That stunt alone completely outdid Endeavor.

Izuku Midoriya may just be the most powerful kid at U.A. Shoto didn't think he'd be sharing that title anytime soon, especially not with him.

"Hardcore…" Kyoka whispered, staring at the gaping hole in the Mountain Zone. She shook her head. "Anyway, is everyone else ok?"

"Everyone is accounted for," Shoji said as he walked up. "Present Mic and Ectoplasm are collecting the villains and finding our classmates."

Shoto nodded. It seemed that the villains were woefully unprepared to deal with the heroes-in-training. Despite their failure, the incident shook their confidence. The foundation that they relied on.

U.A. was not invincible.

An unknown location…

For any being who lived longer than, say, a few hundred years, perspective was everything.

Success was a high point. Failure was a speed bump. All accumulating to an intricate path to ultimate success. And with so much free time, opportunities were aplenty.

Despite this, there was very little that could surprise a man such as this. In the dark warehouse, the man was covered in the wires and tubes of his life support. His eyes were all but gone, skin covered what used to be his sight.

It didn't matter. He had many tools at his disposal, many could be used to see his surroundings. Including the small screen in front of his bed. Though his body was worse for wear, his mind was as pristine as ever. Sharper than any blade, quicker than lightning.

And his power? Out of the question.

Through the screen, one could see the dark bar within. Inside, a portal appeared, depositing none other than Tomura Shigaraki. Mostly unharmed.

And completely livid.

"Sensei…" he said in his graveling voice. "We failed."

"I can see that," the man replied. His voice flowed like honey, though venom laced every word. "Did Nomu not suffice for your purposes?"

"You were right." Tomura started to pace in frustration. "All Might was weaker. Wear than he's ever been! But he was still strong enough to fight Nomu. We would've killed him, if it weren't for such interference from the students."

"Is that so?" This was mildly surprising. Mere children fought off Nomu? The one specifically crafted to best All Might? "Kurogiri. Bring it to me."

"As you wish, Master."

Another portal opened, this time next to the Demon Lord. Out spilled a bleeding, charred mess of a corpse. Nomu was reduced to a living skeleton, with bits of charred flesh hanging off. Yet, it still clung to life thanks to its Ultra-Regeneration.

"How interesting," he waved his hand, willing Nomu into an upright position. "Was Endeavor there? No, his spawn is a student in that class, is he not?"

"He is, but it was not his doing." Kurogiri reported. "It was a…a changeling. A shapeshifter with many powers."

"Really?" he said with mirth. "I must see for myself." He placed a hand on Nomu's brain, willing the memories to flood in.

He saw everything, even the parts that this flesh puppet missed. A quirk that allowed the user to transform into a variety of monsters. All with different specialties. Strength, speed, power, stealth, precision, tracking, constructs, intelligence…the possibilities were endless! It all seemed to circulate around a certain device. An hourglass symbol.

And the boy. The green haired boy had something else up his sleeve. A quirk that he knew quite well, set aside from the transformations.

He let go, allowing Nomu to fall to the ground. He hadn't felt so excited in decades.

"Do not blame yourself, young Tomura," the Demon Lord smiled. Though he could not be seen on the other end, his voice rang loud and true. "We simply got ahead of ourselves. This boy was a wildcard, one that even I did not foresee."

"I want him dead!" Tomura raged. He turned a glass to dust on the counter. "He trapped me! And broke my nose! Destroyed Nomu!"

"Nomu can be repaired. Rather easily I might add. And why destroy what can one day be used?" He interlaced his fingers. "For now, we wait. We wait and observe this phenomenon. And one day soon, you, Tomura Shigaraki, will be the Symbol of Fear this world needs."

That night…

Izuku stared into the dark, just barely seeing the ceiling of his bedroom. The Omnitrix gleamed its usual emerald, lightly illuminating the room. His clock had a dim red glow, reading 2:55am.

There was so much he didn't know. Not only about what happened today, but about the aliens. The Plumbers. Intergalactic law. The Omnitrix. Where it came from. What is it really for?

He had to know.

He leaned up to sit. There was no way he was sleeping tonight. Just as well, U.A. gave all of them a long weekend to deal with the incident. That's what everyone called it, but it didn't do it justice. It was an attack. An invasion.

Something in that machine made the Omnitrix go haywire. But it was because of that he was able to escape, get back to the USJ, and beat a villain that not even All Might could!

But…the Plumbers didn't want it for themselves. They wanted the Omnitrix because it isn't safe. Not safe in the hands of a 14 year old kid.

This wasn't over. If the Plumbers are really the authority everyone says, then he was a criminal. In their eyes, he was a thief, with technology he had no business messing with.

But…can they even take it? It didn't seem like they could, even if he complied. Maybe they think he's too powerful?

He got out of bed and opened the window. The fresh air flowed in, waking him up a bit more. He unplugged his phone and scrolled through his contacts. He had to talk to somebody. Somebody who he could trust.

All Might was hospitalized. He pushed himself hard in the fight, cutting his time down by an entire hour. He needed rest.

Same for Mr. Aizawa. Though he would recover with time, he was in no shape to be taking early morning calls from a student.

His mom was downstairs, but she wouldn't understand. Not completely.

Mina was just as traumatized as him, but not even she would completely get his position.

Then he landed on a new number. He knit his eyebrows. Was he really ready for this? To open this door?

He tapped the phone on his mouth. What could he lose here? He dialed.

"...Izuku?"

He took a deep breath. "Hey Dad."

"I heard about today, but I wanted to give you space. Are you ok?"

"Yeah…no…it's complicated."

"It always is, kid. Talk to me."

Midoriya leaned out the window, looking up at the sky. "I…I feel…it's hard to explain."

"It's ok. Take your time."

"...I feel…completely out of my depth, lately," he began. "I've got all this power now. Power that I'm not really used to yet. I'm doing the best that I can to manage it, but…but…"

"Got the whole world on your shoulders?"

"Exactly," Izuku confirmed. "I've always wanted to be a hero. And I've only just recently gotten the power to be one. But…what if I don't deserve it? What if it's too big for me?"

"I know how you feel," Hisashi answered honestly. On his end, he was sitting at the base computer, deep in their Plumber base. On the screens were both the security recordings of Mt. Rushmore and Lucy's bodycam at U.A. All over were all the transformations available to the kid.

"What do you mean?" Izuku asked.

"Personally, I have a bit of experience being out of my depth." Hisashi thought about his time at the academy, and abroad on other worlds. "It's easy to feel like a goldfish in an enormous ocean. Like everyone's way ahead of you on everything. And maybe the opportunities that get thrown your way are better suited in someone else's hands."

Izuku looked at the Omnitrix. "Yeah. Maybe it is…"

"But…it's important to ignore that feeling."

"What?"

"Listen kiddo, sometimes you're gonna feel that way. Like an imposter, almost. But trust me, no one else sees you that way. Especially after today."

"What do you mean?" Izuku asked, confused. "How do you know-"

"I have contacts," Hisashi said quickly. "Some police buddies of mine filled me in on what happened." He pressed play on the muted video, watching his son fight between transformations. "You fought tooth and nail today. And it has nothing to do with the…with your quirk. Anyone can have an amazing quirk."

"Not everybody…" Midoriya said glumly.

"But no one could have done what you did today. It's easy to be born with power. It's harder to step up and use that power for good. To put the lives of others before your own. That's what makes a hero."

"You really believe that?"

"I really do," Hisashi answered. "It never mattered what your quirk was or even that you had one. You were always a hero. I saw it all the time. You were defending others from the time you could stand!"

Midoriya nodded to himself. There was more. So much more than he had to talk about. But couldn't.

Hisashi had the exact same problem. And the older man knew it. Why not just come out and say it?

He shook his head. "Get some rest kiddo. You've got a long way to go, but you have my complete confidence. Your mother and I support you all the way."

He hung up the phone, tapping in on the computer console. Behind him, a being cleared his throat.

"Argu. How's security?" Hisashi asked without turning from his station.

"Mt. Rushmore is secure," he answered. "The Galvan and Merlinisapien have restored our security systems and added anti-mechamorph countermeasures."

"Good." The Magister stood up. He deactivated the computer for the night. "I assume you overheard?'

"Yes sir," the Opticoid confirmed. "I am curious regarding our mission parameters, given new information and our latest attempt to recover the Omnitrix."

"Me too, buddy. Me too." Hisashi said tiredly. "Did you see the way he fought? The Omnitrix was changing forms randomly, but he adjusted and recovered instantly to keep fighting us, and Nomu. And his quirk, his quirk!" Hisashi emphasized as he began to ramble. "His quirk is some kind of Power Type, which enhances his aliens beyond their normal capabilities. No Pyronite is capable of the firepower he pulled off. And I've never seen Tetrax create that much diamond at once."

Argu nodded. "Yes sir. If I may speak freely…"

"You may."

"He quite reminded me of you, back in the day." Argu crossed his arms behind his back. "He's resourceful, intelligent, strong-willed…and powerful. Too powerful."

"Yeah, he's powerful." Hisashi agreed. "But not because of the Omnitrix. I meant what I said to him. He's got serious chops."

"Then…what's the new plan?"

"...I don't know yet."
