chapter five a hard pill to swallow
THE LAST few hours felt like hell. The Mikaelson family spent their time panicking and cleaning the apartment, as if when Stiles found out everything he could be relieved that, yes his family were vampires but hey they keep a clean house. It was the only thing that kept the family sane while they waited.
"I can't believe we're telling him. Today. Is it bad i'm a little nervous?" Hayley asked.
Her mom who was now on her third coffee of the day continued wiping down the little island in the kitchen, making sure she didn't miss any spots.
"I mean I'm sure today will go anything but smooth but I just want to skip to him accepting us and give my kid a hug, maybe lock him up from the world and hear about his life" she further explained.
Hope laughed, "Yeah, mom let me and dad do the talking, okay?"
Klaus who was sitting on the couch with nothing but a calm look grinned, a tiny smile you had to squint to see. "I'll be surprised if this doesn't end in a screaming match, us Mikaelson's have always had a flair for the dramatics" he admitted.
"And we usually end in a fight in mine" Hayley added, letting out a sigh. "I just, I want today to go perfect. He's already going to be turning for the first time tonight and he's already been through enough, going through this alone will nearly kill him" she said from her own experience. When she had turn she was all alone at the time, no family, nobody to explain what was happening to her and that she'd survive it.
"Someones driving up" Hope told them, rushing to the window just as the blue jeep arrived, parked in one of the parking lots spaces.
Hayley let out something similar to a squeal and although her father was trying to remain neutral Hope could tell he was nervous too. She was terrified about how this was gonna go. Would he accept them? she hoped he would realize they were telling the truth and understand why it took so long for them to find him. She hoped they could be actual siblings and bring him back home. Then finally she wouldn't have to keep eating alone at lunch, maybe he would protect her from all the mean kids back at school.
"Hope, love, are you gonna open the door?" Klaus asked, oh, right, her brother was here. And still knocking.
She opened the door to reveal Stiles, wearing the same baggy blue sweatshirt from earlier, his hair a little greasy and sticking up in odd ways. Basically he still looked like shit, and she was planning on changing that tonight.
"Hey," he said, his hand falling to his side awkwardly from when he was knocking. He stepped inside and when Hayley and Klaus kept standing there all but with their mouths open he let out an awkward cough. "So, are we studying in your room or..."
Hope looked to her parents confused whether they were supposed to actually study for a bit or if they'd just tell him right here and now. Probably should've gone through the plan a little more.
Hayley and Klaus were too distracted by how much he looked like both of them. From Hayley's chestnut hair and hazel brown eyes to Klaus's dimples and devilish glint in his eyes. Hayley was already planning warm meals she would learn just to give him the healthy weight back and the long hug she would give him as soon as he was comfortable with it, because now more then ever she knew there was no way she would be leaving Stiles alone ever again.
"Actually, we were hoping to get a chance to speak with you," Klaus finally replied after realizing his son had in fact asked them a question. God how were they supposed to tell him Hope thought, "You know about the supernatural werewolves and all that live in this town" Klaus deadpanned.
Hope face planted. Real subtle dad.
Stiles' entire body went rigid, his posture even changed like he was waiting for an attack, he no longer felt safe being in the room with them. "What do you guys want? Are you hunters?" he asked with a glare that didn't miss any of them.
Klaus laughed at that, "God, no"
"We just want to talk, Stiles. How much do you know about the supernatural?" Hayley asked with a small smile trying to reassure him they wouldn't hurt them. Only five minutes in and their son was already scared of them, off to a great start. "Have you ever heard of the originals?"
Stiles tilted his head, clearly recognizing the name. "The Mikaelson's? Of course I've heard about them. But they aren't here, there's no vampires in Beacon Hills" he answered confident, he took a small step forward, a look on his face that would've been intimidating if he didn't resemble a puppy. "This town is full of good people, my family, so if you're even thinking of hurting them-"
"We're not!" Hope rushed out, holding her hands up in a surrendering way. "I promise. We're werewolves, mostly, anyway. We don't want to hurt anyone"
A moment of silence passed as Stiles tried to connect whatever dots he had been given. "What do you want then? You're them, aren't you? The Mikaelsons" he finally said, testing the words on his tongue. He'd only ever read about the originals as a caution tale, there was never even any proof to suggest they were real, or still alive. Saying it out loud made it all too real, first werewolves, hunters, a human lizard, demons, and now the first ever vampires? Beacon Hills really was a Beacon for the supernatural.
The three weren't quite sure how to break the news to Stiles, unsure of how he'd respond. He already seemed to detest the idea of the Mikaelson's and them being in town, never mind finding out he is a Mikaelson.
"You might want to sit down" Hope warned.
"I think I'm good right here" Stiles immediately spat.
Klaus let out a sigh, the truth would have to come out now, and although they planned for it to happen tonight he still wasn't ready to shatter his son's view of the world. To break everything he knew and change his life forever. He felt selfish robbing him of normalcy.
"You're a Mikaelson, part of the original family" there, it was out. Done and over with.
Stiles looked flabbergasted. For a whole minute or two it was silent, an awkward scene to stumbled upon with the three staring at him and him looking anywhere besides them. He moved from where he was by the couch his hands tugging so tightly on the straps of his backpack that they were turning white. He was pacing.
"Congratulations?" Hope tried with a unsure smile.
"So let me get this straight," he said, stopping in his spot and finally looking at them. "You think, I, me, Stiles Stilinski is. . .related too? one of? whatever the fuck you said. You think I'm part of your family?" he asked pointing between them and himself. "Like I'm a bloodsucking vampire? I'm only seventeen, I've only been seventeen for three months. No." he decided, no he was not going to play along with whatever attempt to distract him this was.
Hayley stepped forward looking like she wanted to plant her hands on his shoulders, "Stiles, you are my son. My child. I know that for a fact. And this sounds crazy we're aware, but please, can't you just try and wrap your head around this being true?" she begged.
He shook his head with a betrayed look on his face, "No. Absolutely not" he said, shaking his head and putting more distance between him and her. "I had a mother, she-she is my mother and my dads the sheriff. I was born here, this is my home" he said less confidently.
"You were stolen from us," Klaus said, emotion which was usually hard to find on his face, "Witches took you. You were right there, and they took you away. Erased our memories of you ever existing. Otherwise we would've been here sooner. We would've brought you home" he assured.
He gnawed at his thumb, pacing again. This was crazy, they were crazy. He was the sheriffs son, he was Claudia's son. He wasn't some werewolf or vampire he was human, just human. Just Stiles. Stiles Stilinski.
He looked at Hope, finding her the easiest to maintain looking at. "You're lying. All of you. I don't know what you have to gain from this but it's not true. You're not my family" He wished he didn't feel like shit when he saw the looks on their faces. They deserved to feel bad, they were lying, trying to trick him. But he wouldn't be tricked this time, he wouldn't give in.
"Look tonight is a full moon. And you killed someone. I don't know what went down for that to happen but it happened and you've triggered your curse. You're going to turn for the first time and it will hurt and be scary. At least let us help you through that" Hayley all but begged, holding back her tears so much her eyes started to sting. She knew this would probably happen but it hurt way more then anything she ever imagined.
Stiles shook his head, fidgeting with his hands. "I didn't kill anyone," he lied horribly and everyone could hear it. He was shaking now, his hands, even his lips trembled. "And I'm not your son. So please stay the fuck away from me" he warned before rushing out the door, it slamming behind him.
"Well that went amazing"
