IT HAS BEEN A WHILE HASN'T IT?

Above the sky today, one could see a transport vehicle's wreckage falling down. Scraps of metal falling like silvery meteorites.

EVEN IF YOU CAN'T RECALL, THAT IS FINE.

Among the fallen, was a man being embraced by a woman; the both of them wearing military uniforms.

WELL THEN, I'LL LEAVE YOU TO IT.

The man's eyes were shut, while the woman's gaze was determined.

LET'S SURVIVE.

WordBound Presents

"Hey, did you see that Rapi?" A blonde girl called out as she pointed at the crashing transport vehicle.

A NIKKE Fanfiction

"Yes, we need to head there ASAP." The girl with a black and red beret responded.

In a world where humanity is pushed to the brink.

"Commander, Commander!" The woman beside the man called out, but then her eyes widened as she sees her companion going into cardiac arrest.

"Commander, I got you!"

His eyes then opened, and his first sight was a darkened sky.

Automata Heart

When he woke up, all he could feel was pain.

"Commander, thank goodness you're awake." A strange woman in a military uniform said with relief in her voice. The man didn't know anything about her, but did she just call him "Commander?"

Every move he made was peak agony, but the need to know what's going on was of more importance.

"What's going on? Who are you?"

The woman beside him did not like that question, her face turned a bit sad but he could tell that she was hiding her emotions, "It was naïve of me to assume you'd come unscathed isn't it?" The Commander could tell that this wasn't her usual demeanor, "Never mind that then, I'm Marian. You're NIKKE, Commander."
The only thing going through his mind is, "When did I had a NIKKE?" He was asking so many questions even though he just woke up, and the way this woman address him with familiarity felt right somehow. That's when he realized something.

"I have amnesia?" The commander asked shocked and with a nod from his NIKKE, he suddenly found it hard to breath again.

The uncertainty of his situation, the growing feeling of dread, and the urgency of finding something, anything that may lead him to remember what's going on was too much for him. He felt like the very air he's breathing is choking him. The smoke forming hands, trying to choke him.

Even though it was all in his head, the danger he was facing was very real

"Commander, no!" Marian pulled out a device from her pocket, a AED resuscitator, "Don't worry, I will protect you."

As the Commander started to recover from his panic attack, they heard something blow up from somewhere. Marian stood beside him, readying a gun in her person. This NIKKE must be a unit manufactured for the military then and if he was a Commander, he was suppose to command her.

What possessed him to take such a dangerous job?

"Don't worry, I'll protect you!" Marian readied her gun as if she already knew that an enemy was about to fight them, "That's what we NIKKEs are here for!"

Suddenly, a wall collapsed in front of them revealing a grotesque machine with a red core glistening. It was like a single eye shining through the dust caused from its wanton destruction.

"Raptures!" Marian answered one of his questions before he could ask her, "Commander, requesting support."

"But I don't even know how!"

"Don't worry, I have faith in your abilities Commander!" Marian reassured her, "Tell me where to fire, and I will eliminate the enemy!"

All he had to was be her other pair of eyes, seems easy enough. The alternative, he figured, was that they both die. Even with amnesia, he figured that dying was really bad for them.

He summoned up all his courage and faced off the pursuers with a facade of determination. That facade was more than enough to empower Marian however. Somehow, his body still remembers the feeling of facing down these creatures. Without knowing, he shouted out his words as the horn of battle.

Those words were like muscle memory on his mouth.

"Combat Revue...START!"

[Combat Revue START]

Marian took cover with the Commander beside her, firing at the two Raptures slowly approaching them. Bullets rained down at the enemy while the Commander pointed at an enemy charging up an attack. As Raptures slowly fall down to the ground they advanced in their escape, taking cover once they see even a hint of a Rapture nearby.

Luckily, those buckets of bolts take a bit too long to recognize a target.

"On your left Marian!" He orders, she shoots. That's the relationship of a NIKKE and a Commander. NIKKEs are there to provide physical manpower while he's there to think for her, "That Rapture is readying an attack."

"Roger!" Marian took the threat down swiftly, motioning for the commander to move ahead while she fires from behind, "My Skill is ready Commander, tell me when to use it."

A Skill? The Commander wondered if NIKKEs still need permission to use their full potential and that they need to gather energy to use their abilities. But seeing as they aren't in any threat at the moment, he decided to abstain for now.

"Commander!" Marian called out, grabbing his hand as he was forced to take cover. A big Rapture suddenly blocked their escape route, perhaps this is a good a time as any for her to use it.

"Marian, Skill Now!" His command came through as Marian readied her rifle, she fired away at the enemy with a speed that the Commander couldn't keep up with. It was as if lasers shot themselves behind her, beams of light spraying the enemies dead, their carcasses looked like Swiss cheese with all the holes in them.

The big Rapture's core dimmed until it faded into blackness, leaving it a husk of metal.

And then suddenly a colorful light burst from the Rapture's body exploding.

[Combat Resolved]

After the battle, the Commander composed himself. Trying to gather any sense of what's happening. From what he remembers, he is just working on some technology before all of this began, the details were still foggy in his brain but he was certain that he wasn't fit to be indicted into this military role he finds himself in.

Then again he felt older now, his muscles feel more stiff and he was wearing this impractical and stuffy military gear. It was as if half a decade had passed and he couldn't remember what he did back then.

"It'd be better if I didn't tell Marian about this." He thought, shockingly he realized that he forgot his own name of all things. The commander then quickly rummaged through his pockets and found his ID.

"Isaac...Gemallion...so that's my name."

He looked over to see Marian contacting base as well as looking for any other of their comrades in the vicinity. Even though they were both covered in dust and ashes, Isaac was observing the woman's features, his cheeks heating up when he focused on a certain area.

Feeling his heart sink as he realized what he doing, he turned around to see the ruined buildings across them. An awful kind of blockage filled his throat as he saw the sprawled out bodies of man and machine strewn out across them, some even catching fire, filling his nose with the stench of flesh being cooked over flame.

He even saw the husk of a NIKKE laying over another remnant of a person, the head missing from the body but lacking even the evidence of them used to having a neck as the torso looked like someone had bitten her head off. The Raptures that they fought just now didn't have mouths to speak of, only heavy ordinance.

And yet, the bodies across didn't even look like they were shot to death.

This place is more of a den of predators than a battlefield of a war.

Isaac never really liked the idea of NIKKEs as a whole, to turn human women into machines for war was something he and his father felt disgusted by. Turning the brain into nothing but a commodity goes against the morality that science required to keep. But, survival came first before ethics and as a result he owes his life to them even before he was born.

That is not to say that he dislikes NIKKEs, when he was a civilian he would get strange looks if he apologized when he bumped into a NIKKE on accident. Actually, he respects NIKKEs; especially those who chose to become one to protect humankind. Perhaps, that is why he went to military academy, although he doubted that he would unless the reason was truly dire.

Maybe, he hoped to meet the original Goddess Squad if they're still alive on the surface. He was such a big fan of the Goddess ever since he was a kid.

"Marian, do you have a rendezvous point in mind?" There should be one in case of situations like these, they are compromised and be dead in the next few hours, "Lead the way, who knows we might even stumble onto other squads that survived."

"Right!"
