"I can't believe you've never played this game before!!" Eddie exclaimed as he set up the Nintendo Wii

"Believe it or not Lawson, I have a life!" Rachel giggled, rolling her eyes playfully

It was a rainy day in October half term. Eddie and Rachel had been planning on going out on a nature hike. But the weather had, had other ideas. So Eddie had got the video games out, having learnt Rachel had never played on the Nintendo Wii before. He knew she'd love it, even if she put up a fight about trying it.

"Come on, me and Michael play this all the time! He loves it, he always beats me so it'll be nice to have some fresh competition!" He chuckled

Rachel raised her eyebrow at that. He was challenging her.

"Excuse me, Lawson, just because I'm a beginner at this Mario Kart, doesn't mean I won't whip your butt!!!"

"Oh yeah? Is that a challenge, Miss Mason?" He replied, leaning in to kiss her

She pushed him off playfully, sitting on the floor. She was ready to play this stupid game. Eddie chuckled at her eagerness, handing her one of the game controllers.

"Do you want me to show you what to do?" He asked

"I'll figure it out for myself, thank you!" She insisted

"Alright, well don't blame me if you die first!" He warned

"And don't blame me if I win and you lose!" She shot back, a cheeky smile spreading across her face and lighting up her eyes

Eddie chuckled

They chose their characters. Eddie went for Bowser as his designated driver. Rachel chose Princess Peach, which Eddie thought was typical. She was always the damsel in distress.

"We'll start off with an easy track, yeah?" Eddie decided

Rachel rolled her eyes

Eddie clicked on the easiest track available, Luigi Raceway. He couldn't help but laugh as Rachel braced herself, eyes glued to the TV, waiting for the race to start.

When it finally did, to his surprise, she was a natural and beat him by a mile! She came in third place, whilst he was in 8th place. She smiled at him smugly as they moved onto the next race track.

It was only whilst playing this game that Eddie realised Rachel really did have a competitive side. A strong one at that. And it surprised him. He couldn't help but laugh at the way she hurled verbal abuse at the other characters. It was so funny that once, he'd driven his character off the track completely!

"Oh you stupid, little, idiot, Luigi!"

"Come on Yoshi, you can get a bus through there!!!"

Eight games later and Eddie was defeated. Rachel had won every single race without fail, coming in first place and yelling triumphantly every time. Rachel had been right, she had quite literally, whipped Eddie's butt!

Rachel giggled as he glared at her. How could she be a natural at everything?!

"Come on, one more match!!" She pleaded as he was about to turn the telly off

"Absolutely not!" He scoffed

"Pleaseeee?!!!" She begged, giving him her best puppy dog eyes

He couldn't resist those big brown eyes, they melted his heart every time. He picked up his controller, scrolling through the choices of race track.

"What about that one?" Rachel asked, pointing to the one he'd just skipped passed

Oh no. Not Rainbow Road.

"No way, Rach! That's one of the hardest race tracks! You definitely won't win on that one!" He argued

She folded her arms defiantly. Eddie knew she wasn't going to give up until they'd tried it.

"Fine, we'll play it. But you won't win!" he sighed

"We'll see about that!" She huffed

"What does this button do?" She asked, pointing to the button on the back of the remote

"It sends out green turtle shells or something" Eddie shrugged

Rachel's eyes widened in curiosity at this.

"What do they do?!" She questioned, her voice filled with excitement

Eddie sighed. He didn't want to tell her, she'd only use it as ammunition to thrash him. But she had to know the rules.

"You aim at whichever driver you want to aim it at, and it knocks them over" he explained

"Cool!!" Rachel squealed

Eddie shook his head. She was like a child on Christmas Morning!!

The race began. Eddie groaned as he fell off the track almost straight away.

Rachel however, was on a roll, managing to stay on the track perfectly without overbalancing and falling off. Eddie watched her for a moment. She was concentrating hard, eyes drilled into the TV, head hanging low. He smiled, she looked so cute. Her competitive side was a little intimidating, he couldn't lie. But for the most part, it was adorable!

"Whipping your butt here, Lawson!" She said, not moving her eyes from the screen

Eddie snapped back into action, continuing to slowly drive around the track, desperately trying not to fall off it. Rachel watched him out of the corner of her eye, a smile forming on her face. She could easily beat him now. It was time to use the knowledge he'd given her minutes ago.

She pressed her back button on her controller, sending a green turtle hurdling in his direction. It hit his car square in the back, knocking it off balance as it fell off the track. Rachel squealed as she won 1st place, yet again. Eddie glared at her as she desperately tried to suppress a giggle.

"What's wrong?" She asked innocently

"You did that on purpose!" He grumbled

"No I didn't! I didn't send that turtle after you! You're just a sore loser!!" She shot back, smirking

"Oh, is that so, Miss Mason?"

Next thing she knew, he pounced on her, climbing on top of her as he tickled her. She was laughing and giggling hysterically, begging him to stop. Eddie was laughing too. Her ribs were aching with laughter by the time he was done. He stared down at her lovingly as she smiled at him. She was perfect.

"I love you, Miss Mason. Even though you are terrifyingly competitive!"

She chuckled, wrapping her arms around his neck

"And I love you, Mr Lawson! Even though you're an awful loser!"

He kissed her softly on the lips, running his hand through her silky hair. Even though the day hadn't gone to plan, it had been better than they had both imagined.
