As the Homeworld spaceship sped through the sky, Tammo abruptly woke up in a cell. The cell was completely empty except for him; there was nothing else in it. The entrance to the cell was barred by a yellow force field. Tammo got up and walked over to the entrance. He peered through the force field, and directly across the hall, he saw another cell identical to his, with Lapis Lazuli curled in a ball on the floor inside.
"Lapis!" he exclaimed.
Lapis sat up. "Tammo?"
"What's going on?" Tammo wanted to know. "One minute, I'm saying my wedding vows, the next, I'm trapped in this blinking prison! And what are you doing here?" The ship gave a lurch, and Tammo stumbled as he momentarily lost his balance.
"Well, I made it back to Homeworld," Lapis said. "But when I got there, they put me in prison. I had no idea why! I didn't wanna tell them about you, but they tortured it out of me!"
"Who tortured you?" Tammo demanded.
Lapis shuddered. "The Diamonds!"
Tammo knew the Diamonds were the rulers of Homeworld. Suddenly something occurred to him. "I say, where's Pasque, my wife? Have you seen any sign of her?"
Lapis shook her head. "You're the only creature I've seen since they shoved me onto this ship."
Tammo scratched the space between his long ears. "Hmm… the last thing I remember, I had just fused with her, when that giant green hand appeared in the sky."
"That was the ship," Lapis said.
"We must've unfused when that beam of light hit us," Tammo continued. "Maybe Pasque is being kept in another cell somewhere else on this ship. The question is, why the deuce did they capture us in the first place? And where are they taking us?"
"I don't know why they wanted to capture you, but I'm guessing they're bringing us back to Homeworld," said Lapis.
Their conversation was interrupted as two Gems came marching into the hallway. One was Peridot. The other was a big, nasty looking orange Gem.
"Peridot?" Tammo said. "Is that you?"
"Silence, clod!" Peridot commanded.
"Where've you been all this time?" Tammo asked.
Peridot glared at him. "Well, thanks to your friends Ruby and Sapphire, Damug Warfang turned on me. He tried to kill me! I ran away from him and I've been hiding out in the woods for the last few months. Then, earlier today, Jasper here found me and rescued me, right before we captured you."
"Jasper. Is that the name of this charming orange Gem here?" Tammo asked. He meant it facetiously, for Jasper didn't look charming at all.
"Shut your hole, Rose Quartz!" Jasper snarled. "I'm not in the mood for any lip from you!"
"'Rose Quartz?'" Tammo repeated. "I'm not Rose! I'm her son, Tammo!"
"Don't lie to me!" Jasper shouted. She pointed a pudgy finger at the stone in Tammo's bellybutton. "You may have changed your form, but I'd recognize that rose quartz gemstone anywhere. I was there, you know. At the first war for that garbage planet, Earth. I fought against your armies."
Tammo sighed. This insane Gem was plainly convinced he was his mother. There would be no point arguing with her. "All right, Jasper. I'm Rose Quartz. Everything's whatever you jolly well say it is. What d'you plan on doing with me now?"
"Why, we're taking you back to Homeworld, where you can stand trial before the Diamonds," Jasper said.
Tammo's ears shot up in alarm. "Trial! What the deuce for?"
Jasper smiled wickedly. "Murder," she said.
