"Get off of me." He said between gritted teeth, this girl was testing his already thin patience. She threw her head back and laughed .
"Oh kouga you're so funny!"
Ayami was drunk, a very sloppy and annoying drunk, more so than her usual self, he had been coming back with Kagome's drink when someone stopped to talk to him about the plans for going back home, and he had listened to their concern. Party or no party he was still a leader and he had to listen. They had said their goodbyes and then Ayami had stumbled towards him, the contents in her cup splashing around.
He should have let her fall, but Kouga was a gentleman, so he had done the right thing. He had grabbed her shoulder to make sure she didn't fall over on her face, and she took her chance, wrapping her arms around him like a boa.
"Get off of me Ayami," he repeated trying to get himself out of her hold, but like a snake her grasp tightened the more he struggled, and he felt the back of his neck prickle with an odd sensation, like he was being watched. He turned his head as much as he could and he saw Kagome staring at him. She had a blank expression, but he had sensed something, but it was gone very quickly, but it was not a pleasant feeling. Then she smiled at him awkwardly and turned away, walking off in a different direction.
No no no his irritation soon turned to silent anger, and he pulled himself away with enough force to send Ayami stumbling forward, trying to grasp at him again, the drink completely spilling out of her hand. And she frowned looking down at it.
"I said let go." he was mad and she could tell, even in her drunken stupor.
"Kougaa darling, why are you so mean to me?" she whined, pouting.
"I have to go, find someone else to bug." he turned away but she wrapped her arms around him again, and she leaned up to his ear, pressing her body, especially her breasts up against his back.
"How about we go to my room? There's privacccy there. I can finally make you feel good now that you're ssinggle" she cooed, she had meant it so be sexy, but it felt more like a snake hissing in his ear and it made kouga feel physically ill.
"No thanks." and he shook her off again and stormed off, the tea cold in his hand.
He went back to their spot, and Kagome wasn't there and he let out a frustrated sigh.
Shit
He would explain, and he would- wait, what should he explain exactly. She's just a girl who's obsessed with me, I wasn't hugging her I swear! Did it even matter if he explained? Would she even care? It's not like kagome had feelings for him. But it was obvious she disliked ayami, maybe that was the feeling he had felt, but something irked him. It was dislike, but something else that he couldn't quite pinpoint. It had been a familiar feeling, but nothing immediately came to mind.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, no, it didn't matter either way, he wanted her to know what had happened, even if she didn't care.
He looked around, she was standing next to ayame, and as if reading his thoughts ayame saw him and gave him a glare and he shivered, her look spoke of murder. He walked towards them and paused, kagome wasn't alone, she was talking to someone. What's his name? He racked his brain trying to attach the face to a name. Hojo. He was a wolf from the Yuki pack, a bit younger than kouga, but he also had his own fanclub.
He was tall, with a soft boyish face, and snow white hair that framed his face, just stopping at his chin, and soft curls parted in the middle between his eyes. But what most girls loved about him were his piercing eyes that were between the lightest of blues and the whitest of whites. A small scatter of freckles ran across his cheeks and nose, they were barely visible against his pale skin, unless you were close to him, and kagome was very close to him, in fact it looked like Hojo's face was right next to hers, and kouga held back a growl.
Hojo was leaning down to talk to her, but from his view it looked like his face was right in front of hers.
He frowned when kagome laughed at something he said. He gritted his teeth marching towards them.
"What's your name?" she asked, and he leaned down to hear her better.
"What's that?"
"What's your name?" it was very loud, as the taiko drums continued on, and people chattered on laughing at jokes, and she wondered if the drummers' arms were getting tired.
"Hojo." he replied and kagome couldn't help but laugh out loud, out of all the names his name was also hojo?
"Something funny with my name?' he laughed along with her. And she instantly liked his good natured response, reminding her of high school Hojo.
"No, no! It's just that I knew someone who's name was hojo."
"Oh, is he here?" Hojo didn't know anyone by that name but perhaps the Miko had brought a friend with her.
"Who's here?" ayame asked, only mildly listening to the conversation, she was leaning against ezume, they had all been drinking and she was finally relaxed around him, she didn't care what people said, but so far everyone had seemed very supportive of this new match.
"Oh no I was just-"
"Kagome." kouga's voice interrupted her, and they all turned to look at him. And kagome couldn't help but give him a carefully guarded smile. She didn't know why she held this feeling of upsetness, but she did. She had told ayame what had happened and had to stop her mildly buzzed friend from going up to him to confront him, that or ripping out ayami's hair. Luckily with ezume's help, they had managed to calm her down.
"Hi kouga." she said.
"Can I talk to you for a moment?" He said ignoring Hoji's greeting and everyone else, he knew it was rude to not acknowledge the other wolf but he felt jealousy. He had no right to be jealous, but he couldn't help it.
"Um, yea sure." she excused herself as they quietly strolled further away. She glanced up at him, his face stoic. They stopped when they were away from the prying eyes, and he looked down at her.
"I uh…" he paused mentally kicking himself for not thinking of what he was going to say. She waited patiently, so they waited in silence while he gathered his thoughts.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity, she broke the awkward silence, "kouga if it's what I saw I don't care."
Ouch that stung.
"Kagome I-"
"I mean I didn't think you liked her like that, or liked her at all." she shrugged, maybe they had gotten closer, "you don't have to explain yourself." she said laughing nervously. Oh kami why was she nervous all of a sudden?
"Kagome li-"
"It's okay! You can talk about other girls, I won't say anything to anyone." except I told ayame, "I won't bring it up-"
"Kagome just listen!" she fell silent, and he ran his fingers through his hair, " Fuck, sorry I didn't mean to yell, but it wasnt like that, she was drunk and I was just making sure she didn't fall, but she grabbed on to me and wouldn't let go."
"Oh." She felt a small sense of relief, and then guilt. Why had she doubted him? And her thoughts turned to Inuyasha, she wasn't healed exactly, she was still reeling with the aftermath, it was fading but still her trust was-wait a minute, why was she so worked up about this? It shouldn't matter, she shouldn't compare them, they were nothing alike. Kouga owed her nothing. If he wanted to flirt with other girls he was more than welcome to. Just because he had possibly loved her back then, didn't mean his feelings had stayed the same.
"I'm not like him." her wave of emotions were pushing on to him so strongly that he could feel them all as if they were his own, relief, guilt, and sadness, and somehow he knew what she was thinking of. She didn't have to say it, it was written all over her face.
"W-what?" her head shot up to meet his gaze.
"You're thinking of muttface, I can tell." she nodded slowly, "and I'm not like that." he said inching towards her, bringing his face down so he was at eye level, "I don't play around with girls."
Her face flushed at his proximity, and she was certain he could hear her heart hammering away in her chest. He grinned, he could tell she was getting shy, and it sparked some hope in him.
"Now that that's been cleared up, do you want to go dance?" he asked, looking over at the crowd forming, the drums had changed tempo, they were faster now.
"I don't know how." she admitted, she had never danced except at her school's festival and even then that had been a complete disaster.
"I'll show you." he reached out, pulling her to the crowd, he was walking so fast that she had to run to keep pace with him, her hair bouncing with her little run.
His hand engulfed hers, and she found that she liked it, it felt nice and warm. She liked this new sensation that he was giving her, and butterflied stirred in her stomach.
Maybe, just maybe... She thought, looking up at him and he smiled down at her, his fang glinting in the moonlight, and she couldn't help but smile back at his excitement.
