"I am indeed pregnant," Alex told Dave.
Alex had gone to her doctor though she was usually pretty healthy so didn't have to see her often. It was about a month later and she had not yet started to have morning sickness though Alex knew that was coming. Her doctor had run the appropriate test last week and she had just gotten a call from the doctors office that she was indeed with child.
"I just knew you were," Dave said, as he happily picked Alex up spun her around.
"I knew I was too, but it didn't hurt to have a confirmed," Alex said giggling happily, as she kissed Dave passionately.
"No it didn't," Dave agreed, even as he hugged Alex affectionately. "It was a great day when I met you and now I'm getting a family I always wanted."
"Ditto for me. I've always wanted children, you know that, but wasn't about to have any without being part of a solid mating," Alex said. "Not only would my parents have been very angry if I had I would've had to get a bigger place, hire child care and I still have those student loans to pay though I won't for much longer."
The two stood in the middle of the living room together before Dave guided Alex to the couch. "Expect to be spoiled rotten," Dave told her once he had her sit down with her feet up.
"I won't object I promise you," Alex told him with a smile.
"You couldn't stop me, even if you did object," Dave said.
"I know, which is why I'm not going to," Alex said.
"Very good. That just means I won't have to punish you," Dave said. "I would've torn your rear up I promise you if you had."
"I know better than to argue when you have your mind set on something," Alex said simply. "I've never owned a lot of expensive jewelry. Never needed to. After all, where would I wear it? I never go to fancy functions just to facility events and they hardly require diamonds or pearls. The other teachers would probably stare at me wondering why I had got so dressed up."
"I'll keep that in mind," Dave promised knowing Alex had a point.
What was the point of all and in a lot of fancy jewelry if you had nowhere to wear it? To show it off?
~~~Dave and Alex~~~
"They're so cute," Spencer said, as he held his new brother.
"All three of them are adorable," Dave said proudly, as he held one of his daughters. "I'm sure my daughters will be beating the young men off with sticks."
"They are only a few days old Dave let's not have them mated before they're even out of diapers," Alex told Dave from the couch with amusement in her tone.
Alex wasn't allowed to lift a finger she had just gotten out of the hospital a few days ago. A nanny had already been hired to look after the triplets most of the time though they did spend some of every day with their mother as she fed them from her breast.
The nanny also fed the cats that Alex had bought over from her apartment. Alex's kittens were no longer babies but full grown cats. Still, they were cute and adorable as one was all gray with a white face and also white paws. The other was black with green eyes and two white paws one in the front, one in the back on opposites sides of the body. Dave could see why Alex had fallen in love with them as kittens as they just looked up at you with their big eyes, one set of green eyes the other set blue, so they looked nothing alike, even if they had come from the same mother. They had a litter box in the kitchen and also in several of the other rooms. Right now, both were curled up on the couch.
Also, because she had had triplets they each only got her breast once a day and the rest of the time it was by bottle. She just didn't have enough milk to feed all three of them as many times as they needed. Alex was so glad that formula had been invented or another solution would have had to be found.
"I agree with dad they're going to be beautiful once they grow up that is," Spencer put in his two cents.
"Of course they are, as they certainly have their father wrapped around their little fingers," Dave said with a happy grin.
"And all three of their brothers," Spencer added speaking for Julio and Kade.
"Everybody who has met them thinks they are the cutest babies they have ever seen," Dave added in a proud tone.
"I certainly think they're adorable, but then, I am their mother, so that's my prerogative," Alex said with the fond smile at the two men present.
"So are you going to have more?" Spencer asked Alex who had become more of a big sister then a mother to him and that was just fine.
"Dave and I have already talked about this and we agreed to wait three or four years before we have anymore and then that will be it," Alex said. "I'll have an operation after that so I won't go into heat anymore and also can't reproduce."
"Unless we decide to have more after that, but that isn't to likely," Dave added.
"I won't say that it can't happen, but probably not," Alex agreed with Dave statement. "If I have triplets again that will be half a dozen and that's more than enough."
"It would certainly be enough for me," Spencer said, as he held his brother and only boy. "I know some families have more, but I would think six is plenty or even just three if my mate was to have triplets."
"That's only if you ever get mated," Dave told Spencer bluntly. "Weren't we and your brothers just talking about how you were too shy to ask out some girl you liked a few months ago?"
"We were. That was so embarrassing," Spencer said ,as he blushed at the remembered conversation.
"You won't be the last to be too shy to ask out somebody you like," Alex told Spencer gently. "Plenty of humans are also too afraid of rejection to ask out somebody, so remain alone. That's their choice though and not one I would make personally."
"But in the case of humans they don't absolutely need to get married to be at least content but for our kind..." Dave added.
"I know what loneliness can do to our kind, especially someone like me who is an omega," Spencer said.
"You know I was very familiar with that kind of loneliness son," Dave said in a gentle tone. "I kept myself busy and I adopted you and your brothers, which helped. Still, it was rather hard for me not to have a mate of my own, not to mention children of my blood. I love you and your brothers but having children that shared my DNA..."
"Is important," Spencer finished not seeming offended. In fact, he seemed to understand the point Dave was trying to make. He was a brilliant young man though and understood things that others wouldn't even if they were decades older.
"Which means you need to find a mate of your own. Not right now, but in a few years. Believe me, you don't want to be familiar with that kind of loneliness as having plenty of friends and acquaintances only goes so far."
"I agree with Dave on that," Alex put in having been listening to the conversation silently. "I had plenty of friends and acquaintances I spent time with, but that didn't mean I wasn't lonely until I met your father. Those friends and acquaintances simply helped to stave off the worst of the loneliness, but didn't get rid of it completely. Having children with him is just icing on my personal cake. At least most of our kind want children with there being rare exceptions."
"Like the man I share DNA with," Spencer put in with a grimace.
"I'm sorry that you had such a lousy father," Dave told his son sympathetically. "It happens and it's always tragic when it does. You don't expect an alpha to act like William Reid did with you in particular. Now, if you were humans and had a crappy father then it would be more understandable, but for the most part our species love children, especially their own. However, I am not sorry for adopting you and your brothers as my sons, as you have brought me great joy and also helped stave off that loneliness. It was also through you that I met Alex, had my children and I'll always be grateful for that."
"So am I," Alex agreed, even as she rose with one of the little girls in her arms. "Now though, I believe it's time to change Alana's diaper as she just went poo poo in it."
"Leave that to the nanny," Dave instructed winkling his nose when he got a whiff of Alana's dirty diaper. "That's what we hired her for."
"Well, I won't say I mind it as her poo stinks," Alex said also winkling her nose at the smell. A baby's poo smelled worse to their species noses then to a humans Alex knew, which was one reason they hired a nanny in the first place. It might've been one reason, but it wasn't the only one as Alex was going back to work in a few weeks after her maternity leave was over and Dave couldn't handle it all himself. She knew she would be changing diapers some of the time and despite the smell she didn't mind it. That's what babies did and that was mess themselves. They would be potty trained in a couple of years.
"Little Kiernan has just wet himself," Spencer added "I'm sure all three of them need to be changed.
"Probably true," Dave said.
Alana was crying and Kiernan started seconds later.
"We better get these two changed and I'm sure that Acacia needs changing too," Spencer said.
"That's a likely possibility," Alex said just as the nanny came into the room. "Ah, Christian I was just gonna come find you as I believe these two need to be changed and probably fed from their bottles."
"Yes ma'am," Christian said she took the little boy from Spencer cuddling him gently being careful to support his head.
"I'll help, as there is three of them. I know you don't want me to lift a finger but I'm all recovered from their birth and I'm sure Christian could use the help," Alex told Dave who nodded.
"I guess that's true, when they all start crying at the same time. One starts and then the other two usually do as well," Dave said.
"That's usually the way it is with multiples," Christian said even as she cuddled the little boy in her arms. "I could use the help miss. It would be appreciated."
"It'll be mostly your job because I'm going back to work in a few weeks, but I'm sure Spencer and his brothers will help out when they can and so will I," Alex said.
"I will," Spencer agreed. "It'll be good practice for when I have my own children if I ever meet an alpha that is."
Christian took the other little girl out of Dave's arms to where she was carrying two and headed for the nursery.
"I agree 100% with that son," Dave told Spencer patting him on the back now that he didn't have a baby in his arms. "I'm sure your brothers will agree to help out to. I'll make sure to ask them when they get back."
Spencer glowed at the praise Dave had just heaped on him and swore to himself he was going to stop being so shy and ask out somebody he liked as he did want to be prey to the loneliness that his dad and Alex had experienced. He would keep telling himself he was worthy of love until the voice of his birth father fell silent for all time.
Alex came back into the room with one of the babies in her arms a few minutes later and handed her to Dave who took her gently. "All clean and dry daddy," Alex said. "Christian should be finishing up with the other two in just a minute."
Dave caught a whiff of baby powder, which smelled clean and fresh and another smell, which was just natural baby.
Alex watched as she cuddled her other daughter that Christian had brought after she finished changing her and put her back in Alex's arms.
All Alex felt was contentment as she had had no problems giving birth to the triplets and she and Dave would have a more in a few years. The two of them would raise them to be good people but they also had plenty of help with that task not only Christian, but in Spencer and his brothers
She would go back to work but would always be glad to come home to her family.
She had never imagined she get mated to someone like David Rossi who treated her with respect and equality. While she put up with his protective instincts and his need to spoil her. She could understand those needs though as he had lost his mate more than 15 years ago due to an aneurysm that not many people had in their brains. It had caused him to become more thoughtful than most other people alpha or otherwise she had met over the years and she was grateful.
They would face any problems as they came and not let it make them lose their common ground. Alex knew that Dave had learned a lesson when Caroline had died. He had learned to cherish family, which was one reason he had adopted Spencer and his brothers in the first place, as they had been his family for years before she came along. She was certainly happy to be part of Dave's family and get three sons right off the bat, even if they were almost grown.
Alex sighed in contentment and she held her daughter who would grow up and be whatever she wanted to be, as would the other two and the ones that came after them.
She was happy, much happier with Dave in her life then without him.
