"Congratulations! You have a quirk!" said the doctor, who made the young Izuku Midoriya and his mother, Inko, happy.
"Really! That's great. Do you know the type of quirk he is going to get?" Inko asked, trying to calm down her only son.
"You're fourth generation, correct?" The doctor asked "What are the types of quirks you and your late husband have?"
"Well, I can pull small objects toward me. And my husband… Well, Inko hesitated at first, but looking at Izuku, who looked so much like his father, she smiled. "He called it Chakra. Apparently his family has had it for generations, and he can use nature around him, including controlling trees."
"I see…" The doctor said he was intrigued by the concept of one quirk being passed down from generation to generation. "Then it is a possibility that he is getting his father's quirk." Inko sighed, knowing that her son was able to accomplish his goal of being the number one hero. The doctor looked at Izuku and smiled, saying, "Looks like we have another top hero in our midst. Congratulations, kid."
At Midoriya's home. Izuku watches All Might's video of saving injured people with a smile. Inko is with him, smiling and tearing up a bit for her son. Izuku began to speak to his mother, who is still glued to his screen. "Mom, no matter what kind of trouble you're in, he'll save you with a smile." He turned to his mother, smiling with hope, and said, "I want to be a super cool hero like my dad. That's what I want to be."
Inko smiled, letting some more tears run down her cheeks. Hugging her son, she said, "Yes, Izuku. You are going to be as great as your father."
Izuku smiles, not knowing that his path to being the number one hero has been made.
At Aldera Junior High, Midoriya and his classmates are in class, listening to their teacher in the front.
"You guys are all third-years now," said the teacher, grabbing a couple of papers from his desk. "It's time to start thinking seriously about your futures!" Midoriya listened intently, even though he was writing in his hero notebook about the latest hero that joined the scene. "I would hand out these future career forms, but..." The teacher threw the papers up in the air and said, "I assume you all want to be heroes!"
Everyone, except for Midoriya and someone else, showcases their quirks, with them screaming "YEAH!"
The students kept showing off their unique quirks while the teacher tried to calm everybody down by saying, "Yes, you all have wonderful quirks. But you know that it's against the rules to use them in school!"
"Sensei! Don't lump me in with these losers!" The young man who screamed was Katsuki Bakugo, also known as Midoriya's true rival from childhood. "As if I had anything like their crappy quirks." Bakugo chuckled, causing his classmates to boo him.
"Get over yourself, Katsuki!" One of his classmates screamed, making Bakugo smile even wider.
"Shut up! Extras should act like extras!"
"Ah, Bakugo… You, of course, must be aiming for U.A. High School," said the teacher, causing everyone to chatter.
"That national school?! The cutoff score this year is 79, right?" The chattering continued. "I hear they barely accept anyone!"
"Ah, the stupid chattering of extras! I aced the mock exam! I'm the only one here with stuff for U.A." said Bakugo, hopping on top of his desk as he continued, "I aced the mock exam! I'm the only one here with the stuff for U.A." Bakugo continues, this time making a promise to everyone in the classroom. "I'll even surpass All Might and become the best hero out there! Not to mention, I'll be one of the richest people in the world!"
"Oh," said the teacher, looking at another paper, "You're also going for U.A., aren't you, Midoriya?" Bakugo looked at Midoriya, who chuckled and waved at him.
Midoriya's classmates turned towards him and cheered for him. "Alright, Midoriya! Wait a minute to beat Bakugo as a hero!" The cheering continued, "With that brain of yours and your quirk, I bet you will be number one faster than Bakugo would ever be!"
Midoriya stood up and scratched his head, saying, "Thank you all. I will do my best to compete with Kacchan as best I can."
"Don't be surprised!" Bakugo said, making their classmates even more mad, "Deku's the only worthy opponent worth being a rival for, especially compared to all of you extras!"
The classmates screamed, "At least Midoriya has the heart of a hero!" Even more students shouted, "You are a pomeranian dog more than an actual hero!"
Bakugo and the rest of the class began to argue with each other while the teacher was standing there, drinking his coffee.
I should reconsider teaching kids after all.
After class finishes and the students leave, Midoriya remains seated, looking at his phone and swiping through the news article for today.
The incident this morning is all over the net! Midoriya grabs his hero notebook from his desk, happy as he can be. I'd better get home and get my notes in order.
"Hey, Deku. My mom wanted to invite you and Aunty for dinner today. I think it's about U.A. or something," said Bakugo.
"Oh, sure. I'll go ask mom," said Midoriya, putting on his yellow backpack. "Do you want me to bring anything?"
"Your mom's spicy noodles recipe. That thing is the hottest food I can't handle."
"I'll try to convince her." Midoriya headed to the door of the classroom, ready to leave. "See you later, Kacchan."
Midoriya was walking home, deciding to take a short cut by going under the bridge. Midoriya would remember the best news he got when he was a kid. He never knew his father much, but he knew that his father would be proud to continue his legacy of being a hero. He just wishes he had seen him before he died.
"A medium-sized body... to hide in…" A sludge villain appeared behind Midoriya, looking tired as if he had run from someone.
A villain?!
The sludge villain lunges at Midoriya, trying to trap him, but the green-haired boy dodges it. The sludge villain keeps on attacking Midoriya, but due to training with Bakugo, he skillfully dodges everything without getting hit. The sludge villain keeps getting irritated.
"Hold still, you damn brat!"
Midoriya readies his hands and changes his own arm into a big tree, hitting the sludge villain in the eye.
"AAAGH! You will pay for this, you damn brat!" The sludge villain said he was even more angry than before.
"Fear not, kid!" Out of the manhole, the great number one hero: All Might appeared with his iconic smile and some groceries. "I AM HERE!" All Might pulled back his right arm and screamed before punching the villain away, "Texas SMASH!" All Might sent a shock wave at the villain, making him scatter all over the place.
All…Might…
"Are you alright, young man?" All Might asked Midoriya. "Sorry for my late arrival; it's just a strange land to me. And besides, I'm off camera! HAHAHA!"
"Yeah…" Midoriya was memorized until he snapped out of it. "Wait, before you get the villain, can you sign my hero notebook?"
"Hero notebook?" Midoriya hands All Might his notebook and sees the many descriptions of every pro hero's strengths and weaknesses. It impressed All Might. "Sure thing, young man! Anything for my adoring fans!"
All Might finished signing his notebook, which made Midoriya ecstatic. "Alright! I just got an autograph from the number one hero himself! I will cherish this forever, maybe even making it my family heirloom."
"That's a little creepy!" All Might honestly said, "Know what to do with this mess?"
Midoriya saw the mess of sludge everywhere under the bridge, but he got an idea. He focused down on the ground for a second, feeling the nature around his feet, until he clapped both hands together to summon a dense growth of trees, surprising All Might.
Hisashi?
Midoriya collected all of the sludge using the roots from under the paved concrete floor. "I know it's against the rules, but would you make this one exception?"
All Might looked at the roots, remembering an old hero who used the same technique while fighting a villain long ago. "Sure thing, young man. Just make sure you get home safely. I'll contact the police."
"Okay, thank you, All Might, for the rescue!" Midoriya bowed and began to run off, getting home before his mother or his rival got worried for him.
Hisashi… All Might remembered fighting alongside Hisashi and against him. "Young man, what are your goals?"
Izuku stopped and faced All Might, smiling like his favorite hero with determination in his eyes. "To become the next Number One Hero, using the quirk of my father." All Might smiled as the green-haired boy continued running.
The smile and his determination reminded him of his late friend. Deep down, All Might knew something. That boy has the fire of a true hero. I hope to look at his skills in U.A.
