Prologue-
"Oh," Dean covered a burp as he held his stomach with his other hand whilst making their way off the curb. "We are gonna have to come back here again,"he continued with a happy food coma smile as his brother Sam shook his head with an amused smile on his face. "Who ever thought of a triple stack jalapeno chedder melt with onion rings and bacon on a pretzel bun is a bonafide genius," Dean stated with satisfaction as they strolled under the street lights. "Yeah, the tofu chicken sandwich was nicely breaded and had a really nice zesty sauce, " Sam chimed in, just happy to be out enjoying themselves for a change.
The crickets chriped high and fast with the warm of the night air. The neon glow of the food chain sign helped guide their way into the parking lot and reflected off the shiny glem of the black hood of the Impala. As Sam neared the side door the cheerful mood faded. Sam stopped and called for Dean to a who was reaching for the driver side handle. On the passenger side a slab of cardbaord was taped over the back window. Making his way around the front, Dean's eyes went wide with frantic fear and questioning as he neared the unsightly patchwork that was covering the hole. "Who touched baby?!!!," Dean whined as Sam looked closer and found in sharpie there was a note.
Hi my name is Shelby,
We have been watching you for a while and you two seem like a pair of capable young men who can take good care of me.
My father is dieing of cancer and can no longer care for me. I need a new home. I have traveled all my life with dad who was a trucker before he got sick and I love road trips. I am a very loyal and sweet girl who will gaurd your car for you. Love me and I'm your's for life.
P.s here is money to repair the window. She is three years old, has all her shots, and is kennel trained. She also stays on command.
Sam opens the door after Dean pulls off the stack of money taped to the cardboard. Inside is a black and white husky with one blue eye and one yellow almost green eye. Her head is adorably rested on her paws staring up at him tail slowly and timidly wagging. "Aww," Sam lets out at the sight of her. Dean pokes his head in and grimaces. Taking a deep sigh of frustration he turns around with his hands in the air and then drags them down his face. A slue of undistinguished words rambled out under his breath. Sam chuckles and reaches in letting her smell his hand before giving her ear a good itch.
Attempting a second time Dean steps behind Sam after claiming down. "Its getting fur all over my jacket," he complained as pockets the money into his wallet and then tucks it into his jeans. She was indeed laying on Deans jacket, right were he had left it before going out to eat. " I'm sure we can find an animal shelter to dump her at tonight, " he calculated as he tried to figure out when the string of events took place. "Dean we can't do that. It would be neglect for starters and.. well dean just look at her," Sam said looking back up at his older brother trying his damest to give his most best puppy dog eyes.
She huffed borrowing her nose into his jacket and eyed up at Dean seeming to mimic Sam's lead and turn on the charm. " Oh no you don't, it's bad enough he's doing it." Dean said side eyeing the canine and pointing at Sam trying to avoid his gaze. She streached and yawned giving a final and definite sniff before returning the side eye and acting uninterested in Dean. "Um-hum, thats what I thought ," he muttered at her before glancing back at his not so little younger brother.
Dean had to think hard about the past few months after losing Bobby things had been hard and stressful. He finally knew what the numbers ment and the two of them were back to huanting. Maybe a dog would be good for them. " Fine," he agreed at last, "but she's your dog and your responsibility, " , Dean clarified pointing at it. Sam, brimming with joy gave Shelby a final rub down before sliding in and closing the door. Dean looked over at how atupidly happy his little brother wasin the review mirror and couldn't help but smile to himself. The car was as an easy fix, happyness not so much. He would take a win when he was handed one. Starting the car with a roar and a rumble they rolled on out of the parking lot; unaware of the coughing figure that watched them leave from the shadows.
