After they resolved the situation with Drake and the Sorcerer, an exhausted Piper sat down on the couch and pulled on Leo's shirt to convince her husband to sit next to her. "What are you doing?" he asked her, both amused and confused.
"I want to cuddle with my husband," she told him before glancing down at their entwined fingers, noting the missing wedding rings. "Wait."
"Wait, what?"
She stood up, still holding Leo's hand, and dragged him to their bedroom. Piper looked into his eyes and beamed at him. "Hi. There are you."
"Huh?" Leo didn't have a clue what she wanted or what she was talking about.
"The man I love and married is back - you disappeared under a mountain of grief and anger for a while there." He gazed at the floor in embarrassment for a second before she shook her head and lifted his chin up with her finger. "Nope. Leo, you genuinely have absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. Honey, you suffered a massive trauma while saving Wyatt from the trauma that turned him. And then there was just this creepiness simmering under the surface when you became an Avatar. It wasn't anything you did personally, it was just your whole vibe during that time. But the Leo Wyatt I fell in love with, the one who hit his breaking point all those months ago when our son died in your arms, has finally returned."
The pain in his eyes nearly broke her. "You really think so?" He didn't quite feel like himself again yet, wasn't sure if he ever would.
"I know so," Piper corrected. She wiped the tears off his face with her thumb before walking over to her jewelry box and taking their wedding rings out. She beckoned Leo over, her husband peering at her in awe.
"We're putting our wedding rings back on?" Although their relationship status had been confusing since Chris' conception, they had unofficially been back together for months. Their son's death had made them closer.
She nodded. "Yes, we are. Leo, we've seen each other at our best and our worst. We've been to hell and back, and we're still here, stronger than ever. We don't know what the future entails but whatever it is, we'll handle it together." Piper sniffled as she decided to echo her original vows as Leo's shoulders shook with sobs. "I was born to love you, and I always will. You're the love of my life and nothing can tear us apart again. We'll fight like hell for our family, as you've proven over and over again recently. The pacifist got knocked right the fuck out of you, and don't tell my sisters this part, but slightly homicidal Leo Wyatt turns me when he's not worrying me." He barked out a wet laugh and held his hand out as she glided the ring up his finger.
It took a few minutes for Leo to compose himself but Piper didn't mind. "Piper, you're the love of my life too. We have some pretty amazing, wonderful boys, and I know I fucked up a lot in the past few years. Thank you for forgiving me. We're meant to be together. I want you by my side for everything, the good and the bad. I can't imagine my life without you. We were meant to find each other. I love you, Piper Halliwell." He slipped the ring up her finger and pulled her closer to him, dipping Piper so they could passionately and frantically kiss. She laughed.
"We should probably go find my sisters to tell them the good news, huh?"
"Phoebe's going to be pretty excited." She had been hounding them (separately) about their wedding rings ever since they first reconciled.
She grinned at him and they walked out into the dining room holding hands. "We have some news!" Piper shouted.
Paige and Phoebe looked up as they both showed off their fingers. Phoebe squealed then stood up so fast she knocked the chair back. Ignoring it, she ran to hug her sister and brother-in-law. "I'm so happy for you both! Took you long enough."
"I see some sense finally got knocked you into both," Paige teased as she joined in on the family hug.
Piper and Leo turned their attention to the boys, picking the babies up and snuggling them for a few minutes.
Neither of them knew what the future held - the Elders' imminent punishment for Leo's supposed transgressions was hanging over their heads - but Piper was choosing to have enough faith for both of them that everything would work out for once. She was already mentally planning a trip she couldn't wait to convince Leo would be a great idea. Maybe Phoebe and Paige could help get him on board - the three of them teaming up always tended to sway him in their direction.
There'd be some bumps in the road but Piper and Leo's marriage was solid now and nothing could ever (permanently) tear them apart again.
