Luz was true to her word, texting Amity once she was on the road, and again when she arrived in Gravesfield. The witch was relieved to know she'd made it home safely, but as the days went by without any further messages, Amity's concern grew. At the very least, Camila chimed into the group chat to confirm how happy she was to have her daughter home. Hunter and Willow's wedding was fast approaching, with a rehearsal dinner on Friday night and the ceremony on Saturday. Amity gave into her anxiety, and opted to fly into Connecticut on Wednesday...anxiety that only seemed to get worse on the taxi ride from the airport to the Noceda household. She took a deep breath getting out of the car with her bags, again as she made her way to the front door, and once more prior to ringing the doorbell.
"Amity! ¡Es tan bueno verte de nuevo!" Camila answered the door, and hugged the younger woman.
"Hola, Camila," Amity said, nervously.
"I assumed you'd be in town for the wedding, but why fly in so early?"
"Honestly, I just thought I'd drop by to check in on you and-...LUZ!"
"Amity...?"
The object of her desire had just popped her head into view. While Luz tentatively stepped out into the open, Amity swiftly walked into the room, threw her arms around her, and placed a passionate kiss on her lips. Luz's body stiffened for a moment before melting into the embrace and kissing back.
"¡Caracoles!" Camila exclaimed happily as the two young women pulled apart. "Are you two finally back together? Luz, why didn't you say so?"
The pair turned red as Luz stammered, "Well, it's a recent development. I'm still wrapping my head around all this myself, but..." She felt Amity take her hand and give it a squeeze.
"Luz called me up out of the blue last week, we got to talking and, here I am."
"Well, for now, I'm just her date to the wedding..."
"Sweetie," Amity sighed, "you are so much more than that."
"I am?" Luz looked up at Amity, who nodded and gave her a smile.
"You always were," Amity replied as their eyes started watering.
"¡Qué maravillosa! ¡Ya es hora!" Camila put herself between the couple and pulled them into a big hug. "I'm just so happy for you both. Amity, do you already have a place to stay?"
"Well, I had hotel reservations for the weekend. I wasn't scheduled to check in for at least another day, but..."
"Please, you're already here. At least join us for breakfast. I've made more than enough already, but I'm not done yet."
"I could never turn down one of your home cooked meals," Amity nodded and Camila returned to the kitchen. And the moment they were alone again, she pulled Luz into another hug and whispered in her ear. "I'm so glad you're okay."
"I'm getting there, at least. But what about you?"
Amity started to pull away, "Oh, sorry. Is this too soon for you? I am coming on a little strong. I'm sorry about the kiss. I already missed you so much. And then I got your call, and you sounded so upset, and I haven't stopped thinking or worrying about you since that night..."
"¡Guau! ¡Despacio, hermosa!" Amity felt Luz squeeze her hand, then the other caressing her cheek and wiping away some tears. "Amity, you never have to apologize for kissing me. I needed that just as much as you did. It's just...so much happened before and after I called you up. And until we talked, I never thought I'd feel anything like that again outside of my dreams. I'm still getting used to the idea that I can let go and just let myself be happy, or that we'd have a real chance of getting back together."
"Sweetie, look at me." Amity put her own hand on Luz's cheek, and gently turned her head until their eyes met. "We are back together."
Luz smiled back at her, but began to cry, while making sounds somewhere between laughter and uncontrollable sobbing. "I...might need to hear you say that a few more times...because I still can't believe it. I've wasted so much time being driven by false hope, that I forgot what the real thing felt like. If I'd known there was even the smallest chance I could be with you again, I would have gone straight to your place to apologize instead of calling at some ungodly hour before I-" Her laughter stopped, and her smile faded. The crying human fell forward into Amity's arms, burying her face into her shoulder. The witch ran her fingers through Luz's hair and shushed her gently, even though the sounds of Camila's cooking in the kitchen more than muffled her daughter's bawling.
"Hey, do you remember our first time in Cali when we were looking into Frogvasion? We bumped into an old friend of yours?"
Luz picked her head up as her sobbing subsided and her breathing returned to normal. "Anne? Yeah, I remember her. We crossed dimensions a couple times by pure coincidence. She was doing this cool internship at the aquarium. It was nice seeing her again...and a relief she and her froggy friends didn't get digested in Bonesborough."
"Well, after we broke up and I moved Berkeley, we kept in touch and started hanging out from time to time. I was already in a bad place from losing my family, and losing you just sent me to an even worse place."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. So anyway, she's still working at the aquarium now, but as a full-time herpetologist."
"Cool so far."
"Well, she got me in touch with an old friend of hers. She was apparently a little like me before you and I met, but now she's a therapist...and a good one. She was a big help for me, maybe she can do you some good too. I know I said you could call me any time, and that offer's still on the table...but a professional might be able to help you better than I could on my own."
Luz hesitated, scratching her chin for a moment and leaving the water on her cheeks. She didn't like the idea of leaving her emotional baggage out in the open for someone...but this therapist was apparently different. And after everything that happened recently, she had to admit she needed more help, and this one had already proven to be a big help to Amity when she needed it. After nearly a minute, Luz looked up to her...girlfriend...and answered in the affirmative. "Well, if she helped you, and you think this will help me, I'm in."
Amity hugged Luz. "Great, I'll help you set up an appointment after we eat breakfast. I started feeling hungry soon as I walked in, so lets go."
"You got it," said Luz, hugging Amity one more time. "I love you."
"I love you too."
Keeping their arms around one another, they walked into the kitchen.
