Amity's suspicions had been confirmed. She hadn't taken her eyes off Luz during the whole story, hanging onto every word as tears fell down her cheeks, not once wiping them away. "So you were going to kill yourself."
Luz turned towards her girlfriend with surprise. "You knew?"
"I didn't know per se, but what else was I supposed to think? The last time I heard you sound that drained was at the Bonesborough Brawl. You called me in the middle of the night from a tall building, then poured your heart out. Why do you think I was so worried about you before I came back to Connecticut?"
Sasha noticed Luz's expression shift. She looked scared, ashamed. "Does Amity knowing beforehand change anything?"
Luz sniffled and kept her focus on Amity, trembling and struggling to get the words out. "Is…is this the…the only reason you took me back? Ami…am I your wedding date just so you can keep me alive? That's not fair to you or me!"
"Sweetie, I am here with you right now because I love you. I never stopped loving you, and I wasn't going to let you die thinking I had. Sash, back me up here."
"Luz, your breakup is the whole reason I started counseling Amity in the first place. She learned to live with her feelings, but they never went away. While I can understand your doubts, believe us when we say she is still head over heels for you. But now that we've settled that, I need you to answer this next question honestly…Are you thinking of committing suicide, or harming yourself in any way?"
Luz shifted her eyes between the woman on the screen and the witch at her side. She felt Amity's hands brush her cheek, and she placed her own hand over it. After a deep breath, Luz slowly exhaled and turned to Sasha. "No. I'm gonna be okay. Thanks for your help."
"That's a relief," Sasha said as Amity wrapped her arms tightly around Luz, planting several kisses on her face. "It couldn't have been easy to admit all that. And please, if you ever feel those nasty thoughts resurfacing, don't hesitate to call or talk to someone someone about them, whether it's me, your awesome girlfriend, or your mom. We're here for you. Now you two just got back together after 5 years. You should be celebrating! Get back out there! Go on a date! Live a little!"
The reformed couple looked at each other and smiled. They turned back to the screen as Amity said, "I think we'll do just that. Thanks again, Sasha."
"No prob. I'll bill you later."
"Say hi to Anne for us," said Luz.
"Will do. Bye!"
With their chat over, Amity closed the laptop, and threw herself at Luz. The couple made out furiously on the couch until they heard a knock on the door, prompting both women to sit up straight.
"¿Eres tú, mamá?" Luz squeaked
"Si, mija," Camila said, cautiously opening the door. "How did it go?"
"It went good," Luz replied. "Real good. I might just keep it up. Need something?"
"Vee called. She and Masha invited us out to dinner. Are you two coming?"
"That sounds great," said Amity, as Luz gave her a nod. "You can count us in."
"Ok, dinner's at 7:00. Better start getting ready soon."
"You got it, Mom!" Luz said as Camila left, but left the door open. Hand in hand, the two women left the basement so they could wash up and get changed for their second first dinner together as a couple.
