"Well, that's certainly a version of events."
There's a look of amazement on Hatter's face (David, she really needs to learn to use that name!) when Alice glances up at him, the book still clasped in his hand as his eyes move over the cover.
"I'm guessing it's not exactly historically accurate," she says, smiling slightly, still amused by the idea that the stories of Alice in Wonderland were really real, even after her own adventures there.
"Not exactly," he confirms, tossing the book onto the nightstand and pulling her closer, kissing the top of her head. "Still, all that stuff, it's best forgotten now."
That remark gave Alice pause for thought and she turned in his embrace to better meet his eyes. "You wanna forget Wonderland? It's your home, or at least, it was."
"It's the place I was born, place I grew up, but I wouldn't exactly call it a home. Didn't find that until a very pretty girl turned up at my tea shop... in a very wet dress," he said with a smile that was as much smirk as anything else.
Alice smiled, leaned up to kiss him. "I love you."
"I love you too, Alice."
