A/N: This story came from a prompt given to me by KagamiPINKAgreste. PINK, I hope I did your prompt justice!
It was a seasonable fall evening as Nino Lahiffe strolled down the streets of Paris, heading for Le Grand Paris Hotel. He'd asked Zoé Lee out on a date recently. Granted, he had no clue where he wanted to take her, but he knew that she was the kind of girl who wasn't especially picky about where she went out. Besides, in his opinion, spontaneity sometimes proved itself to be superior. Soon enough, he reached the hotel, where Jacques Bonnay the doorman stood guard.
"And who are you?" asked Jacques.
"Name's Nino; I'm a classmate of Zoé."
Jacques stepped aside. "Entrez."
Nino strutted on into the hotel, where Armand Mathieu awaited him at the front desk.
"Armand!" said Nino. "What's happenin', man?"
"Plenty is happening, Monsieur Nino. We are expecting a governor from the United States soon."
Nino smiled. "He must have some important business in France if he's comin' here."
"Indeed, it will forge new relations between France and the United States."
"Nino, you made it!"
Nino turned to see who'd addressed him, and it was none other than Zoé. He smiled as she approached him and gave him a hug and kiss.
"Well, if it ain't my #1 girl! How ya been, Zoé?"
Zoé smiled. "Not too bad! Well, Chloé's still being an ass, but I guess that was to be expected." She shrugged.
Nino chuckled. "Since when is she not an ass?"
Zoé giggled. "Point taken! So, have you thought any more about where you'd like to take your #1 girl?"
"I dunno about you, but I'm mad hungry. Why don't we get somethin' to eat?"
"Good idea!"
"Zoé, are you seriously still going out with this plebeian?" said a familiar voice.
Nino and Zoé turned to see who'd addressed them: none other than Chloé Bourgeois.
"Chloé, why does it matter to you if I go out with him?" said Zoé. "Plebeian or not, he treats me like a girl should be treated."
"Well, I can find a guy who treats you better!"
Nino smirked. "Oh, can ya?"
Chloé thrust her index finger at Nino. "No one asked you!"
"Look, Chloé, we ain't sayin' you're ugly, but if you were a barnacle, everyone would die!"
"DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!"
Nino and Zoé turned to see who'd acknowledged the former's sick burn. It was none other than Adrien Agreste, accompanied by his faithful blunette Kagami Tsurugi. Nino smiled. Chloé, however, was less than impressed:
"Adrikins, don't encourage these plebeians! You're better than them!"
Adrien smiled. "Sorry, Chloé, but these two have been better to me than you ever will! Auf wiedersehen!"
Adrien patted himself on the back of the neck a couple of times before leaving with Kagami, Nino and Zoé.
"HEY!" shouted Chloé. "Don't you walk away from me!"
The two couples ignored her.
"Ridiculous!" Chloé threw her arms up. "Utterly ridiculous!"
Meanwhile, Adrien, Kagami, Nino and Zoé were walking down the street, enjoying each other's company. In particular, Nino was thankful:
"Adrien, Kagami, thanks for showin' up when ya did! I thought we'd never get away from Chloé!"
Adrien smiled. "You're welcome, Nino!"
Kagami nodded. "I am honored to help a friend out."
"I've been wondering, though…" said Zoé.
"What?" said Adrien and Kagami.
"Where are we even going?"
"Glad you asked!" said Adrien. "Marinette told me about this seafood restaurant that's supposed to be really good."
Zoé frowned and averted her gaze. "I dunno, I'm not very into seafood…"
Nino put a hand on Zoé's shoulder. "Relax, my girl! I'm sure they have non-seafood items on the menu, too!"
Zoé smiled and refocused her gaze on Nino. "Well, when you put it that way, I'm in!"
The place Adrien was referring to was known as New England Seafood, which was located on Rue des Acacias. After the four were seated, they took a look at the menu, which had items such as clam cakes, fish and chips, various types of clam chowder, and fried clams. Fortunately for Zoé, the restaurant did indeed have non-seafood items, mainly American-style fare such as chicken fingers, burgers and cheesesteak sandwiches. Soon enough, their waitress – a short woman with black hair – came over.
"Hello, and welcome to New England Seafood! My name is Jehanne. Can I start all of you off with drinks?"
"I'll have an Orangina, please," said Adrien.
"I shall have some green tea, please," said Kagami.
"Dr. Pepper for me, please," said Nino.
"Just a water, please," said Zoé.
The waitress left to get their drinks.
"So Adrien, how have things been with ya lately?" asked Nino.
Adrien shrugged and smiled. "Ah, other than the fact that Father's still being a Grade-A douchebag, but considering I have my favorite cherry blossom with me, things are going pretty well."
Adrien wrapped an arm around Kagami, who smiled.
"Adrien, I know you love me, but why the 'cherry blossom' remark?"
"Why not? You are extremely beautiful, after all."
Kagami said nothing; she merely kept smiling.
Zoé clasped her hands together and held them to the side of her head. "Wow, you two look amazingly cute together! You two must be the star couple of your school!"
Adrien chuckled. "I wouldn't go that far, but I'm glad you think we look cute together! You and Nino look like two peas in a pod yourself!"
"Awww, thank you!"
"Nobody's ever called me that before, but I appreciate the compliment, my man!" said Nino.
Adrien gave a thumbs up. "You're always welcome!"
"Pardon the interruption, but how exactly did you two meet?" asked Kagami.
"Funny story," replied Nino. "I was on my way from Ms. Mendeleiev's class when I ran into Chloé, who started rashin' me for not givin' her the answers to a recent test, so then I rashed her right back, and then Zoé comes along tellin' Chloé to stop tryin' to get others to cheat for her, and man, lemme tell ya, it was love at first sight! I sat down next to her at lunch as soon as I could, and we just clicked…" Nino snapped his fingers. "…like that, see?"
"Fascinating. It reminds me of how quickly Adrien and I bonded."
Just then, Jehanne returned with their drinks.
"Are we all set to order?"
"I'll start off with the Loaded Cheese Fries, and then I'll have a dozen clam cakes and a bowl of New England clam chowder, please" said Adrien.
"I will have the fish and chips, please," said Kagami.
"Would you like any dipping sauce for your fries?" asked Jehanne.
"I will have some remoulade, please."
"I'll have a small cheesesteak with fries, please," said Zoé.
"Would you like any dipping sauce for your fries?" asked Jehanne.
"Just ketchup, please."
"I'll have the fried clam dinner, please," said Nino.
"Do you want clam strips or whole-belly clams?" asked Jehanne.
"Is there a difference?"
"Whole-belly clams include the whole clam, while clam strips just include the smaller portion of meat hanging under the belly."
"I'll go with the whole-belly clams, then."
"OK, and would you like any dipping sauce for your fries?"
"I'll have some sweet & sour sauce."
Jehanne left to get their orders.
"Adrien, you ordered mad food!" said Nino.
"I don't see what anger has to do with the food, but yes, you ordered a lot of food, Adrien," said Kagami.
Adrien shrugged. "What? I was really hungry!"
Zoé giggled. "I'd be impressed if you actually ate all that food!"
Adrien giggled as well. "You'd be surprised!"
Kagami nodded. "Indeed, this would not be the first time that my dear Adrien has done such a thing. There was a Japanese restaurant we once went to where he attempted to order every appetizer on the menu. I had to bribe him with a hot makeout session to discourage him from doing so."
Adrien smiled. "I would've been happy either way!"
Nino shook his head. "I dunno, eatin' all that food sounds like a sure-fire recipe for a heart attack. I once had an uncle who died because he just kept shovin' food into his mouth."
Adrien gave a dismissive hand flap to Nino. "Relax, Nino! I can eat as much as I want and not get fat!"
Nino shot a look of disbelief at Adrien. Meanwhile, Zoé broke the silence:
"So Kagami, I know you're into fencing like Adrien is, but how did you get into it?"
"My mother is a world fencing champion, and she trained me in the ways of fencing, hoping to raise a child who would eventually take up her torch. I grew to like fencing, but not because of that horrible excuse for a human being. Rather, I found that partaking in the sport excited my senses like few other things could. Knowing that my dear Adrien is into it excites my senses even more."
"Wow, you must really hate your mom given the way you talk about her."
"Let's just say that if murder were legal, I would have collected her head by now."
Nino smiled nervously and made a gentle pushing motion towards Kagami. "Kagami, I get you hate your moms and all, but can we cool it with the murder talk? You're creepin' me out here!"
Soon enough, Jehanne came out with Adrien's loaded cheesy fries, which included ham and bacon bits. Almost immediately, he dug in.
"Adrien, those look delicious," said Kagami. "May I please have some?"
"Go ahead!"
Kagami took some of Adrien's loaded cheesy fries and ate them. She nodded.
"Very interesting taste."
"I know, right?"
Nino smiled. "Glad you're enjoyin' it."
By the time Adrien was done with his loaded cheese fries, the rest of the food had come out, and everybody dug in.
"Wow, this cheesesteak is almost as good as what I've had in Philadelphia," said Zoé. "I wonder how they do it."
Nino swallowed one of his fried clams. "This is good stuff, though I gotta wonder what they mean by 'New England'."
"New England is a region of the northeastern United States consisting of the states of Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine," said Kagami. "These states are known for their seafood."
"How do ya know all that?"
"My mother and I once travelled to Boston for a fencing tournament."
Adrien swallowed a bite of one of his clam cakes. "Wow, awesome!"
"Except for the part where I had to be with my mother, yes, it was a fascinating experience."
Adrien smiled.
After finishing and paying for their meals, Adrien, Kagami, Nino and Zoé left the restaurant.
"Man, that was good stuff!" Nino patted Adrien on the back. "We gotta go there again someday!"
"I agree with Nino," said Kagami. "Being there with Adrien made the experience better."
"I know, right?" said Zoé. "I just love discovering new restaurants!"
"Hey, let's not forget to thank Marinette, either!" said Adrien. "She was the one who introduced me to this place, after all."
Kagami nodded. "Indeed, Marinette is a good friend in spite of her faults."
"Hey, not to break the evening up, but I really have to get going," said Zoé. "Adrien, Kagami, it was nice seeing you again!"
Kagami smiled. "The pleasure is likewise."
Adrien waved at Nino and Zoé. "Have a good night!"
"You too!"
Nino and Zoé waved back, and the two couples parted ways.
"Nino, thanks again not only for helping me to feel welcome here in Paris, but also for getting me away from Chloé," said Zoé. "You light up my life like no one else can."
Nino smiled. "You're welcome! Glad to help!"
Zoé wrapped an arm around Nino. "You do more than help!"
"I'm honored!"
Nino wrapped an arm around Zoé, and they headed back to Le Grand Paris, looking forward to another outing with friends and more happy memories to go along with them.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
