AIZAWA, HE SAID HE'D TEACH ME HOW TO FIGHT
SHINSOU! what's up?
what? who??
YO???? WHAT?? THAT'S SO AWESOME SHINSOU 10/10 DESERVED
THANKS
Izuku leans back in his desk chair, something sour welling up in his throat, but just as quickly as it appears, he swallows it down. He lets it dissolve and disappear. He's proud of Shinsou, happy for him beyond all measure. This would bring his friend one step closer to becoming a hero.
He'd been worried after the sports festival that Shinsou, whose only hope of heroism had lied in UA, might fall to the wayside and be forgotten. And Midoriya, who had surely destroyed his chances at taking home gold in one fell swoop, would be to blame. Izuku, upon being denied his entry to the hero course had turned to vigilantism and he'd be damned if he inadvertently led anyone down the same path he'd only just sloughed off.
He'd been prepared to extend the hand that Izuku had so desperately needed the year prior. Now, it seemed, that Midoriya wouldn't have to.
There would be others like he and Shinsou though, others that would be shunned for their desire for heroism. Izuku's dreams have stagnated. But, he refused to let them stay that way for long. Things would not come easy for him, Izuku was used to this fact. He would fight now so that those that come after him won't need to. His success would become the extended hand he needed. In order to achieve this he was prepared to overcome all obstacles in his way.
"I'll meet you at the finish line," Izuku murmurs, a determined grin blooming on his lips as he glances down at his phone, "Make sure you're there to meet me."
2 am comes and goes with Aizawa staring at the living room's aircon. Shouta's determined not to move again for the night, but the couch has always been uncomfortable to lay on for long hours. That's why Oboro had teasingly demanded they keep it once it'd been discovered.
" It makes sure you always come to bed ."
Even so, he can't bring himself to sit up and head back to the bedroom. He'd slipped out over an hour ago, unable to sleep, but too exhausted to do anything but lay around. He closes his eyes desperate for sleep, but is instead only greeted by waking nightmares. He opens his eyes again tiredly, staring up at the ceiling once again. The red light on it blinks at him lazily.
"You said you wanted to save people, right?"
Aizawa curses, pushing himself up.
"My class is up there, they could use some protection."
He presses the palms of his hands against his eyes, sighing. "Why'd you have to go and die on me, kid."
"Shouta?" Oboro shuffles into the living room, voice raspy from sleep.
"I'll come back to bed soon," Aizawa murmurs to reassure him, hoping that it'll be enough to send him back.
But Oboro Shirakumo, therapist of five long years, knows when something's wrong, especially when it concerns his husbands. "What is it?"
"Nothing."
Oboro stands guard just out of sight without a word. Aizawa thinks the other man's gone back before the sound of shuffling feet draws closer instead of moving away.
"It's not your fault."
Aizawa must've heard those words a thousand times by now. His reply is almost instinctive, "I know." He's not sure if he believes it or not.
Oboro lowers himself onto the couch next to him. "He was probably the same age as we were when my accident happened, wasn't he?"
Aizawa keeps his hands pressed against his eyes, saying nothing.
"Those kids I saved that day... I've said it before, but I don't regret doing so. Even though it destroyed everything I'd hoped for as a kid, if I was given the chance, I'd do the same thing all over again." Oboro stares straight ahead. "I bet it'd be the same for Piper. From the news I've seen, from the stories you've told. I think that he too, if given the chance, would still choose to save you."
"He was just a kid, Oboro," Shouta murmurs. "He shouldn't have felt like he needed to save anyone."
"I know," the man sighs, running a soothing hand across the other's back.
Aizawa leans towards Shirakumo, tiredly resting his head against the older man's shoulder. His eyes are bloodshot and his scar stings vehemently. "You didn't see what they did to him. And now Tsukauchi's disappeared and the new lead detective doesn't give a shit about Piper. We just found out that Stain's on his way to Musutafu as well and the kids' internships are coming up next week and I've stupidly decided to take on another student from general education again."
"You'll catch who did it," Oboro reassures him gently. "Just make sure you don't overwork yourself. Know your limits and remember to rely on others. For now," he states, "just rest."
"I don't think I'll be able to sleep," Aizawa sighs.
"You never know." Oboro presses a gentle kiss onto the top of Shouta's head, murmuring softly into his hair. "Come to bed. Put on some music or a podcast, if you fall asleep to it then you fall asleep."
On the other side of Musutafu, Tsukauchi Naomasa sits alone on his balcony. It's quiet in their part of the city. There are a few cars that pass on the street below, leaving trails of white and red that are punctuated by the occasional whine of distant sirens. On the table beside him is an unopened pack of cigarettes that he can't bring himself to open.
Naomasa glances over his shoulder into the living room. The door is open, giving the apartment a chance to breathe. Sansa is curled up on the pullout couch. He's pretending to be asleep, but they've been friends long enough that Naomasa can tell otherwise. The ticking swivel of his ears every time Nao shifts around is enough of a giveaway.
He sighs. "You can go to sleep. I'm not going to do anything reckless." He looks away again, observing the city skyline.
There's a long beat of silence punctuated by a short sigh. There's a creaking rustle from inside as Sansa slips out of bed. His paws fall softly against the floor as he pauses in the doorway, leaning against it. "I know you won't."
"If you know then go to bed."
Sansa doesn't reply, coming to take the seat in the chair beside him instead. They sit in silence for a long while, watching the city flicker with life. "You have work tomorrow," Naomasa reminds him.
"I'll be fine."
"It's two in the morning."
Sansa sighs, turning to look at the man. A car passes below, headlights revealing the detective's sorrow struck face. He's wearing a pinched expression, lips pressed in a thin line, brows furrowed. He's not watching the city anymore, eyes fixed pointedly at his lap.
"You're more important to me than a few missed hours of sleep."
"I shouldn't be," Naomasa murmurs hoarsely.
Naomasa Tsukauchi is a plain man with looks that make him easily forgettable to strangers. But, he loves more deeply than anyone else Sansa has ever met. He loves indiscriminately with the heart of a thousand suns, embracing those that others hate, extending his hand to the people society shuns. Because of this, he is also a man with much to lose.
And Piper, Piper had been a devastating loss.
Sansa's whiskers twitch with mild annoyance. He stands, silent as he steps in front of Naomasa. "You are. You always have been and you always will be." The feline crouches, taking the man's hands between his own. Sansa gently lifts them, pressing their hands to his forehead. "Even if you don't believe it yourself, I can believe enough for the both of us."
He looks up to find nothing but heartbreak in Naomasa's eyes. "You'd have to make up for my lack of belief as well. It's reached the negatives, you know?" Naomasa chuckles hoarsely.
Sansa stands again, gently cupping Naomasa's face. Below them, another car passes. "I know."
"I don't know how long it'll take... to get back to normal, or if normal is even an option anymore."
"I've got nine lives," Sansa hums, gently bumping his head against Nao's. "I'm willing to spend all of them waiting if it's for you."
"You'll change your mind eventually," Nao breathes.
"Maybe," Sansa teases softly.
His yellow eyes are twin suns that have pulled Naomasa into orbit. They are steady, unwavering. They are everything that Naomasa is lacking. They are everything that Naomasa needs right now. Gravity pulls them closer. Naomasa falls deeper.
Their breath mingles. Their lips brush.
The universe sings.

"Iida."
UA's lunch line is always a minefield of sorts for Midoriya. There's always that slim chance that he'll be stuck next to someone he's trying to avoid, ie. Bakugou, and more recently, a handful of the kids from 1-C.
Today, however, he thankfully doesn't have to worry about this. He's found himself smushed between his friends and Iida.
"Hey, Iida," Shinsou chimes in from behind.
The teen turns to face them, pleasant surprise on his face. "Midoriya, Shinsou, it's good to see you again. Also, Midoriya, congratulations on your placement in the sports festival. I had to leave before I saw your fight against Bakugou, but I hope he wasn't too vicious."
"It was pretty brutal," Izuku chuckles.
"He was like a feral pomeranian," Shinsou cuts in.
Midoriya laughs, elbowing him good-naturedly. "But," Izuku continues, "he's never been one to hold back. Most people tend to underestimate me so it felt good to go all out against him."
"Of course." Iida nods, holding out his tray for Lunch Rush. He murmurs a, "Thank you," before returning his attention to Izuku. "I can't relate completely. But, I do understand your feelings."
A small smile fights its way onto Midoriya's face as points to what he wants and Lunch Rush fills his plate. "You know," Izuku starts brightly, "I think you'll make a great hero one day, Iida. Make sure you help if you ever see me in trouble, alright?" he teases, smile morphing into a grin.
Iida, however, dons a tight smile. "I'll do my best to live up to your expectations."
Izuku freezes, shifting to remedy the situation. "Hey," he says reassuringly, "don't feel pressured to live up to anyone's expectations. No one has a right to ask for anything more than your best."
Shinsou chuckles from his other side, doing what he can to lighten the mood alongside him. "Midoriya, our school slogan is literally plus ultra."
"Okay, well maybe they need to change it then," Izuku huffs dramatically, keeping Iida in the corner of his eye.
"Does that mean you're also going to tell Spain that they need to update their motto?" Reo butts in, leaning out from behind Shinsou, a shit-eating grin in place.
"Spain?" Midoriya splutters.
"Why do you know this? Is this just common knowledge to you?" Shinsou asks with a laugh, looking back at the older boy.
"Combining memory quirks with the internet was a mistake, honestly," Reo hums light-heartedly.
"Thank you for your advice, Midoriya," Iida cuts in, "I'll keep it in mind." Iida grabs a set of chopsticks, offering them one last, "Have a good day then," before breaking away from the line.
"You too, Iida!" Izuku calls after him, picking up his own tray. He bites at the corner of his lip, concerned he'd accidentally driven the boy away.
"I'm sure he'll be fine," Shinsou reassures him, picking up on the uneasy tension on Izuku's face.
"You didn't do anything wrong, Izuku," Reo leans down, murmuring in his ear. He's quiet enough so others can't overhear.
Shinsou studies them with a raised brow, but says nothing as he leads the way to their table.
"He's got a lot going on right now with his brother," Reo explains. Midoriya tilts his head towards him as they walk, brows furrowed in confusion. He catches Reo's pensive expression from the corner of his eye. They lock eyes with one another briefly before Reo pulls away. He need only say one name for Izuku's confusion to shatter violently: "Ingenium."

i agree that this whole situation feels off, but i also don't think the police set this up like some people believe. it's too complicated of a plan, it has too many moving parts and too many ways it could blow up in their face. like you said i definitely think if any of the "good guys" are behind this then it's more likely that the her/o com/mission. that or maybe what the police are saying is

Midoriya feels a little nervous making his way to the dojo. It's his first day back since the sports festival and as much as he expects a round of congratulatory responses, he feels a strong sense of anxiety. As close as he feels to most of the people in the dojo, he hasn't told actually told any of them of his quirklessness. He'd managed to avoid the question for years now thanks to how little time there was for leisurely talk during lessons. And, aside from Gamon and Hirano who he texted occasionally, there was no one he actually talked with while outside the dojo. He'd hoped for a similar situation while at UA. But, the sports festival had, although indirectly, exposed his quirklessness to what he can only assume is the entirety of class 1-C. And now, he worries that the same thing might happen with his dojo.
Zheng isn't here to spread any rumors, but the fact is that he'd placed third in the sports festival without any obvious signs of quirk usage. With as long as he's been at the dojo, the question is sure to come up if people start to recount his fights.
Izuku sighs, shaking the thought off as he passes the dojo's front window. Everything is seemingly business as usual until Gamon spots him through the glass, pointing out his arrival to Hirano whose head whips around just in time to catch him pushing through the door.
"Midoriya!" Hirano rushes at him as soon as he's inside. He doesn't even have the time to slips his shoes off before he's being lifted off his feet by one of the most enthusiastic hugs he's ever received. "You won!"
There's a clamor of other voices congratulating him, calling out questions.
"I tied for third," Izuku reminds her with a wheezing laugh. "Exactly!" she shouts, "You won!"
He can hear Gamon laughing somewhere behind them as Midoriya is dropped back on his feet. He throws the teen a playful glare as he finally gets a chance to slip his shoes off.
Gamon pulls Izuku into their own hug. "How'd it feel finally getting to meet All Might? Was it everything you hoped for?" Gamon teases.
"Better, actually," Midoriya laughs.
"That was so cool!" one of the younger kids calls out
"Yeah! How do did you do that one thing in the team match?" "Listen, I wanna know how you handled that explosion kid!"
"Tell me you were scared! There's no way you weren't scared!"
"Midoriyaaaaa, you have to teach me how to do that kick thing you did!"
"You even got to hug All Might, not fair!"
"You'd think Hawks just flew through the window with how loud it is," Ji-Woo calls from the back of the dojo, silencing the sudden commotion as she makes her way across the mats.
"Sensei," Izuku greets as she gets closer.
"Everyone back to their places."
"You did great," Gamon grins, giving him one last pat on the back before slipping away.
The woman stops in front of him as the crowd disperses. She smiles gently, holding her hand out. "Congratulations, Midoriya. You made us proud."
Izuku takes her extended hand, shaking it with a smile that rivals the sun. "Thank you."
"Now," she states with a mischievous smirk, "I'd love to see you sign up for one of the next competitions."
Hattori Rikku is two minutes late to her meeting with Principle Nezu. He, however, does not so much as bat an eye at her tardiness.
She bows in greeting. "I apologize for running late."
He waves the apology off with a paw, motioning for her to take a seat. "Nevermind that, would you like some tea? Or coffee perhaps?"
"Neither, thank you."
Nezu nods, slipping out of his seat. "Straight to business then," he states, "Though I hope you don't mind if I make a cup for myself."
"Not at all."
He sets to heating the water before speaking again. "So," the principal starts, "Do we have any word on Stain's whereabouts yet?"
"No, but we are working under the assumption that he's already in Musutafu. If this is the case then we have two weeks at best before he makes his move."
"Indeed, based on his modus operandi, he'll want to spend ample time research his targets before he does anything. If the rumor that he's come here for Piper is true, then his next targets will likely be someone either closely related to Piper's disappearance or someone that he was publicly at odds with."
"Do you believe some of your staff could be at risk of attracting Stain's attention?"
A smile twitches at Nezu's lips. "You wouldn't have asked for this meeting if you hadn't already thought of the possibility. Excluding Eraserhead, I do believe some of them may be possible targets. My staff are all upstanding heroes, but we failed in safely securing an injured child in need of help, vigilante or no. That alone could be cause for Stain's eye to turn on us."
Hattori leans back, crossing her legs. "With that kind of criteria, any hero that Piper's come into contact with in the past could be at risk of catching Stain's eye."
Nezu nods solemnly. "Indeed." On the table between them a timer dings. He smiles. "That'll be the tea."
