Celebrating the Hero: Pied Piper
[Video transcript: "Pied Piper was not a hero in the way that many people know the word. Piper was just your average young adult doing what he could to make the world a better place, a safer place," the narrator stresses, "for people like you and me. Personally, I never got the chance to meet Piper, but you didn't have to meet him to see how much good he was doing for people. We may never know his name or his background, but we know what he stood for, and the community that he cherished. We know of his determination, and his resolve, and his strength even in the face of adversity. Piper was no All Might or Endeavor. He had no license. But he didn't need one to protect the people of Musutafu. When the news first broke, so did a community's heart. But it's important in our mourning to celebrate Piper's life and his impact on the community at large––]

This will be my last Piper video for awhile. He's someone who has inspired me a lot since he first started appearing on the internet, with no desire for fame or money, saving people just because he was able to. I know that for many of you, he's the only reason you found my channel. But I'm excited to start working on some more collaborative projects in the future, so I hope everyone is looking forward to it!

thank you for helping tell Piper's story, there's a lot of cruel people on the internet who will say what he did was wrong, but he saved peoples lives. He was a good person who did so many good things and I hope history remembers him for that. I met a lot of my current friends through a discord group for people who supported him, I never met Piper either but even so he's brought so much light into my life, I hope he's at peace wherever he is

Piper brought me some of my closest friends. So he may not be a hero to everyone, but he's a hero to me.

Things that have happened since Piper's death
[Gif 1: A memorial march of what seems to be hundreds of people crowding the street. Several UA hero students can be seen leading the march. Endeavor's son, Todoroki Shouto, is notably among them. ]
Following the 6 month anniversary of Piper's death, a charity march was hosted in partnership with The Peoples' Hero Foundation, LC Counseling, Musutafu Abound, Put Your Hands Up Radio, and many other organizations!
[Gif 2: Stream clip of a 500k charity goal being reached on the youtube channel: lilacminds. There are three people in frame, all with masks covering their faces. All three are frozen, staring intently at the screen as the bar for the donation goal fills completely. They jump up wildly, shaking each other in disbelief. The caption reads: 'We did it! We did it!' ]
Youtuber Lilacminds hosted a 24 hour live stream charity event in honor of Piper. They hit the first donation goal within the first 12 hours!!
[Gif 3: A newscast clip from two weeks ago, the news anchor has a grim look on her face. In the top left corner is live footage of a large arrest operation taking place. The headline reads: 'League of Villains Arrested Following Secondary Attack on UA'. ]
The group responsible for the USJ attack were finally caught!!!! (A lot of people still blame them for Piper's death either way Piper would be glad to see them gone!)
[Gif 4: Two people dressed in obvious Piper cosplay captured Naruto running down a street past dark. The camera zooms in behind them to an excited dog, also dressed as Piper, racing after the two. ]
Piper Pocalypse: a November event hosted by a fan-lead discord which encouraged people to go out dressed as Piper with the intent to do good deeds for their community. (Police were forced to intervene after nightfall when a large group were found trying to detain a grocery store robber.)
[Gif 5: Live stream event of the hero billboard charts. Endeavor's face fades from the screen over the stage, replaced by the unannounced first place winner. The announcer extends a dramatic hand towards the screen. The first caption reads: 'And Japan's number one hero, everyone's favorite—!'. The next slide fades in, revealing the face of a vigilante. The still image is caught mid-wave, eyes crinkled with a smile, below the image is the name 'Pied Piper'. The second caption reads: 'Pied Piper? Who-Who is that? What's—'. ]
The JP hero billboard chart event was "hacked", a twitter user going by the name: Seven snuck their way backstage to edit the slideshow and put Piper in first place, the organizers didn't realize what had happened until AFTER it was already being broadcast nationwide sgsjsgsnsg
Honorable Mentions:
Dagobah finally getting cleaned up!!
Present Mic talking about Piper on his radio show!!!! (this was so sweet ) Someone stealing death arms credit card information to make a large public donation to the The Peoples' Hero Foundation (one of the organizations most commonly associated with Piper)
Late October when hundreds of rats were seen swarming old Piper memorials (There's still no solid explanation for this one sgsjhshskd)
Hawks wearing Piper merch (when I tell you I CRIED)
The guy that ran on stage during the middle of a big political campaign speech just to shout "Piper for prime minister!" which became a HUGE meme, people even started putting up posters for him shsjsgbsjs
The government trying to ban carrying PIPES after the Piper Pocalypse (did not go well for them )
#my favorite has to be the banning pipes thing #how did they think that was going to work honestly #pied piper #a country is only as strong as its hog population

My younger brother just has a really simple quirk that lets his fingers glow but he can't really control it when he gets nervous so he's pretty embarrassed by it but Piper was just absolutely enamored by it and told him how cool it was _

This honestly makes me feels a lot better about my quirk now too

there's definitely a video somewhere where he hid behind a lamppost to hide from cops its so stupid cause you can still clearly see him
[Video Description: "Piper didn't die. There I said it. But really, I'm not the first person who even said it! There are plenty of ways Piper could've died, whether through foul play or some other means, but I'm here to talk about the theories on why he could actually be alive. Now we're gonna go through these pretty fast so hopefully we won't need a part two. Now, reason number one: his quirk—".]

Part 1 of ? — so much of it fits guys, you can't even make this up #piedpiper #vigilante #conspiracy #piperconspiracy

Personally I think Piper really is dead even with all the stuff you mentioned, but I agree it definitely reeks of foul play

It's a short trip on foot to Misaki's apartment. There's little comfort to be found in the dark, biting cold of January, but the scarf around his neck keeps him warm. It's one of Sansa's he'd stolen from the coat rack on the way out. Naomasa tucks his phone away, burying his hands into his coat pockets with a small smile at the thought of the article he'd just read: What Piper Left Behind.
He'd left a lot behind, Naomasa thinks, had cast a shadow far larger than himself that lingered even in his absence.
Naomasa's breath fogs out in front of him, and through it he sees movement further down the sidewalk, a slinking shadow that avoids the bleeding glow of the streetlamps. Naomasa's stride stutters, slowing.
It's a figure, nearly unnoticeable in the dark, slipping down the alley between Misaki's apartment block and another and the detective can't help but pull to stop out in front of it. "Midoriya?" he asks quietly, it's only a guess, but when the figure pauses beside the dumpster, turning towards him, that's all the confirmation he needs. Naomasa smiles.
"Hello," Izuku chokes out, shifting anxiously on his feet as he moves back towards the detective. The boy has one of his many brightly colored pieces of hero merch on, though the darkness saps all color from it. The hood too is drawn up over his head, hiding his curls.
He looks more like Piper like this.
Naomasa looks at him fondly. "On your way to see Reo?" he asks with a chuckle.
The nervous tension he'd spotted in the boy's shoulders relaxes all in one go. "How'd you guess?" he jokes, then: "You're coming for dinner right?" Izuku asks a little awkwardly, fidgeting with gloved fingers in a way that helps fight off the cold.
Naomasa smiles, gentle and reassuring before he nods. "I'll be there."
Watching the boy scramble up the fire escape is an oddly comforting sight. It's still difficult sometimes for him to remember that Midoriya and Piper are one and the same. Some days he still wakes from nightmares that whisper to him: "Piper's dead". And in a world that's still mourning the death of the vigilante, there are times he finds himself mourning with them. But Sansa is always there to offer his shoulder on those days, and Midoriya is never too far from Reo's side.
He continues his walk to his sister's apartment, slipping through the lobby and up the elevator unlike his ex-vigilante counterpart. He's greeted at the door by Sansa. There's the smell of curry in the air and clattering from the kitchen and familiar laughter drifting from Reo's room.
"Nao!" Misaki greets with a bright laugh when she spots him, pulling him into a hug, "Sansa was telling me you guys finally got stuff sorted with the moving company."
Naomasa laughs, hugging her back. "Everything'll finally be arriving tomorrow. I may steal the boys to help unpack."
"Please do," she teases, turning back to the food, "I don't need Reo setting off the fire alarm again, the landlord was not happy last time. Also," she adds, giving the curry another stir, "Inko said she's going to be a bit late because of work, but the boys are still waiting on Shinsou to show up anyways so I don't think it'll be too big of a deal—."
It's a peaceful existence here, warm, comforting. Sansa places his chin on the detective's shoulder with a hum as Misaki continues talking, more laughter drifting through the apartment. The calm is something easy to fall into. Eventually Sansa moves to set the table, leaving him to answer the door when Shinsou arrives, offering to lead him to Reo's room despite the fact he's long since memorized the way.
Naomasa doesn't bother to knock with the boy just behind him, pushing the door open instead. "Shinsou's here," he announces with a smile. He expects it to be met in kind. He doesn't expect to see Midoriya to freeze in place, one foot hiked on top of Reo's desk, bent at an odd angle. There's a screwdriver stuck halfway into the heel of his boot where Reo is trying to pry out what looks like a wheel embedded into the bottom.
"It's not what it looks like," Midoriya rushes, eyes wide as Reo startles at the sound of his voice, bumping into Midoriya in the same breath, forcing the boy to hop back a step. There's a sound like the rolling of a skate as Midoriya's one sturdy leg flies out from under him. He makes a startled noise, grabbing at Reo to try and right himself but only managing to drag the other boy down with him as well, chair and all.
There's a clatter and a bang, a shout from Reo, a pained grunt.
"I'm never letting you touch my shoes again," Midoriya groans, firmly buried beneath the chaos.
"It was a good idea in theory," Reo tries, face smushed into Izuku's chest where he's been trapped by the chair on top of him, one leg pinned awkwardly.
"It was not."
"It was."
"It was not."
Naomasa covers his laugh. Shinsou does not. His grin wide and toothy as he leans around the
detective, snapping a quick picture. "I'm posting this on our account," he informs them, mischief clear as Sansa and Misaki crowd the doorway behind them, peeking inside to see the commotion. There's an amused look on Misaki's face and Sansa's whiskers twitch with barely suppressed laughter as the chair is picked up and set aside.
At the center of every galaxy is a black hole. A grounding force that drags entire solar systems into orbit. He thinks that, perhaps, Piper had been that for him. Or perhaps he'd been a sun, blinding and bright and warm as Naomasa is drawn across the distance. Or maybe he'd been a streaking comet burning up in the outer atmosphere for all below to see. Perhaps he'd been none of those. Perhaps Piper had just been a boy, waiting for an outstretched hand.
And there's a memory that comes to Naomasa then, watching as the two untangle themselves, of a scared vigilante crouched in a convenience store who couldn't accept his offered hand. Naomasa holds a hand out to Midoriya now. And there's an embarrassed flush on the boy's freckled cheeks, but he accepts the help, letting Naomasa pull him back to his feet. He offers him a quiet: "Thanks, Detective."
This was good, like a cooling salve on the still healing wound that was Piper. He smiles, soft and easy because all of his most important people are here and they're alive and safe and some days he still forgets that Piper's alive, but other days it's so easy to remember.
