Inside a fairly spacious cave in the Charizific Valley, one could smell the delicious aroma of a large fish cooking (not a fish Pokemon). In it, Rex sat down with his parents, who had just met him, on everything he had experienced until then. However, when they got to the point where her adoptive mother revealed how she found him, then Bedelia was grateful that he, at least, had grown up in a safe and loving environment.

"We never abandon you," Fulvius explained, "What's more, the amulet you have with you is an amulet passed down from your mother's family from generation to generation. And, the mark on your shoulder is my inheritance: that of the head of the Charizard clan. We would always be proud of you, Rex."

"But then, what happened?" Rex asked.

Bedelia calmed Rex and taking a deep breath, she began to narrate:

"After we had your Charmander egg, we took care of you with love, affection and a lot of attention... but one day, the balance of time and space collapsed and caused a rather strange dimensional anomaly: powerful blizzards, skies with lightning and whirlwinds in the sky appeared. It was complete chaos, the valley and several other places in the Pokemon world were hit with such violent power. Then, with a strong tug, your egg was pulled by one of these whirlwinds."

Rex's throat tightened.

"I tried to catch you, but lightning struck me and knocked me unconscious with a single blow" Fulvius continued, clenching his claws in anger at what he believed to be a great weakness, "If I could have done more… I woke up three days later, only to knowing that the son we had been waiting for so long had disappeared. I feared the worst… and now, here you are"

He rested his paw on Rex's hand, like any parent who gives his child all his support would do.

"Thank you, dad…mom…" Rex replied, "I see you did everything you could to save me. I am finally happy to know the truth, but…"

Rex held up the emblem he had received from Xerneas. It was a golden necklace, with a small slit where a very small photo could fit, only, instead, there was a small stone with a red-orange sun symbol. For its part, Katie's was almost the same, with the difference that the symbol was an 8-point star.

"I'd like to know what to do now," Rex continued, "I mean, I've finally met them… but should I stay or go back to the human world?"

"That's a matter of what your heart dictates, my son," his father told him, "I would like you to stay and be part of the clan, but I also know that you must choose your own path. There is a popular phrase in the Pokemon world, and it is: let your heart guide your destiny.

There was a minute of silence in which Rex seemed to reflect on the phrase and his decision. While he was at it, Bedelia turned to Katie.

"So, you've known each other since you were kids?" she asked her.

"Yes, we are childhood friends," Katie replied, "Me too… I was adopted and I had a lot of things in common with Rex. "We became very close."

"And have you fought together?"

"Well, I…"

Rex heard the conversation and tried to intervene.

"She has been a great friend…"

"But not a good fighter…" Katie interrupted, "Whatever you say, Rex, you have to admit that I haven't fought as well as you have."

"Even the most experienced find it difficult to keep up," Fulvius reassured her, "Our family shows it not only with training, but also with the power of believe"

"It's true," Bedelia supported him, "The strength is always in oneself, as long as one does not stop believing. Never underestimate what you can do when you have confidence in yourself."

Katie valued these teachings later. However, before they continued, there was a tremendous jolt (which could be compared to a very close bombing during a war). A few rocks and some dirt fell from the ceiling and screams and roars could be heard outside.

"We are under attack!" exclaimed Fulvius and ran outside as fast as he could.

"Could it be the terrorists?" Katie asked Rex.

"I don't know…" he responded, "Katie, if you're still in doubt, please stay with my mother while I go help my father."

"Rex…" Bedelia muttered as she saw her son come out of her, "Be careful."

"I will do it, mom."

Rex get out from the cave and found everything outside in chaos: the rock walls had been bombed with such magnitude that it looked like a wrecking ball had passed through, several Charizard were on the ground injured (but still alive).

"Aaaaaaaah!" Fulvius's voice was heard.

Suddenly, Fulvius fell to the ground, although Rex managed to help him.

"Dad!" he said to him, "What's wrong…?"

Fulvius pointed up. There, flying with white scales and red eyes of anger, was the Hybrid experiment, Hyzard.

"You!" both enemies said to each other in unison.

"Who is that?" Fulvius asked.

"He's one of the invaders, dad," Rex replied.

These words were heard by Hyzard.

"So…this is your family?" the enemy mocked, "I always knew you were low class"

Fulvius was upset by this and, getting up again, he launched himself to attack Hyzard, but Hyzard punched him with a Mega Punch.

"Dad!" Rex shouted, charging towards the enemy as well.

Rex also tried to hit him, but was hit too. However, this time Rex had a little more stamina and, instead of falling, he remained on guard.

"Slash!" he attacked.

Despite the damage, Rex continued the fight, while Hyzard covered each of his attacks with ease, wanting to make him suffer.

"Flamethrower!" they both attacked.

It was to be expected that Rex would lose in this part, since Hyzard was still clearly superior. The chosen one fell to the ground injured, but he tried to stand up again. The enemy wasn't going to allow it, but before he could do anything, Katie entered the scene and suddenly hit him in the face with a Mega Kick.

"So you've made up your mind…" Hyzard said to Katie's surprise, "Okay, so you're officially on my reject list…"

Hyzard grabbed Katie by her tail and, spinning her around several times, slammed her to the ground. Preparing to finish her off, a Flamethrower hit his back. It didn't hurt him much, but it did make him angry to see that it was the father of his greatest enemy.

"Now you will try my… Flamethrower!" he said before attacking.

Hyzard launched a powerful attack that could not be dodged, but at the last moment, Rex got in the way and, with his Dragon Breath, tried to reduce the impact. The next second, there was a huge explosion, and after the dust cleared, Rex was still standing, but badly injured.

"Ha ha ha!" Hyzard laughed, "You were on the verge of dying to protect your pathetic family! You're lucky to be so resilient…"

Rex was at his limit, only a miracle would save him.

"Mar… tin…" said a voice behind the Hybrid.

Before he knew it, Katie launched such a Flamethrower that it could have burned down an entire forest. Although the enemy was extremely resistant, slight burns were noticeable when the attack ended.

"So… you've started to control your powers better…" Hyzard told him, as he watched her walking towards Rex's side, "But you barely hurt me, and I still have a lot of strength left…"

"Me…too…" Rex commented, staying on his feet.

Hyzard laughed in mockery.

"But you can barely keep you on your feet…"

"Because I have my ideal of fighting," Rex answered bravely, "And I don't fight just for the Pokemon... them, and my parents from the earth, the people... we are all my family. That's what your stupid ideal couldn't understand and that's why they lost your war... I... I fight for family!"

"And the others and Rex also valued me so that I believe in myself…" Katie supported Rex, "I will prove that I am a true chosen one! I will not run away anymore because I'll trust in my power!"

"Nice words," Hyzard mocked again, "But that won't be enough…"

But he stopped: at that precise moment, the medallions of Rex and Katie began to shine brightly along with the flame symbols on their chests. Suddenly, a tremor was felt in the place. On the head part of the mountain (which was the head of a Charizard), the two eyes were glowing: one red-orange and the other red-pink. Then, both stone eyes were destroyed and two glowing spheres came out, flying in the direction of the chosen kids.

When they were close to them, the flame symbols joined with the shiny spheres, thus creating two precious jewels: they were spherical in shape and crystalline in appearance, inside which they had a double helix shape, as if it were a DNA molecule. Rex's was blue, light blue and black, while Katie's was red, orange and yellow. Eventually, these stones were introduced into their Pokephones.

"What are those things?!" Hyzard roared.

"It's the powers of our attributes…" Katie said to Rex, "Could it be that we can…?"

"Something tells me it's time to scale new heights… it's mega fabulous…" Rex replied, holding up his emblem, "Time to Mega Evolve!"

The Pokephone glowed and intersected with the emblem, causing an unparalleled glow, it felt more powerful than Ultra power, and Rex's body was beginning to evolve again.

"Charizard Mega Evolves into… Mega Charizard X!"

Rex had evolved again... although, this time, the evolution was of Mega X level, which surpassed all the limits of the Ultra level. And, best of all, he was not alone:

"Charizard Mega Evolves into… Mega Charizard Y!"

Likewise, Katie had also evolved... only in the Mega Y form. But, equally, it was a new and much more powerful level. She felt like anything was possible, like getting younger again.

"Maybe you've evolved again," Hyzard sneered, "But that doesn't mean you can beat me now…!"

The enemy launched the same powerful Flamethrower with which he had wounded Rex a few seconds ago. However, the ridicule from earlier stayed in his throat when he saw that Rex blocked it with just one of his new claws, as if it were a ball of paper against a wall of rocks.

"What…?!" Hyzard roared in disbelief, "Mega Fist!"

The enemy lunged to hit Rex, but he stopped him with his Steel Wing. Hyzard felt his bones cracking in the impact.

"Flaming Fury!" Katie suddenly attacked.

His claws had been engulfed in flames and she barely hit Hyzard, it was like a small explosion impacting the enemy. In a few seconds, her claws had overcome the enemy's blows. Hyzard watched in horror as the situation had turned against him.

"Enough…" he said angrily, "I will destroy you all…!"

He launched himself into the sky, gathering as much energy as possible into his body.

"This will be my most powerful attack!" he shouted, "Negative Flare!"

Hyzard released a Flare so powerful, grey and hot that it could be compared to the heat of a falling meteorite. However, Rex would not allow this to collide.

"Giga Pulse!"

The attack was a crimson Dragon Pulse, three times larger and more powerful than a normal one, it hit the enemy's Flare and ended up returning it. Unfortunately, the enemy barely dodged the attack, although quite scorched (despite the transformation making it a fire type).

"It's impossible…" he muttered in anger.

"Nothing is impossible, if only you are the one who believes," Rex corrected him, who had flown up to him, along with Katie, "You're finished Martin, but I don't want to hurt you any more: unlike you, I'm not a person who abuses the weakest. Go away, and don't come back."

Both Rex and Katie turned around, intending to return to where Rex's parents were. Hyzard, full of anger and stupid pride, launched a Flare a little less powerful than the previous one, with the intention of finishing them both off while they were off guard. But that was his worst decision: they both turned around when they perceived the treacherous attack.

"MEGA Flame!" They both attacked at the same time.

It is not necessary to describe what happened next, but what happened is quite obvious: the combination of attacks far surpassed the weak attack and hit Hyzard squarely with a power that could be compared to a supernova. The enemy survived by sheer luck, but he was lying down much worse than a dried flower in a desert.

"I will not be… defeated by… you, losers…" he muttered in his agony.

He tried to lift his claw, but suddenly, he noticed something: it was beginning to turn into simple sand and he was dissolving. Frightened, he shouted at the Mega Charizard:

"What have you done to me?!"

Rex immediately understood:

"In short, you were not chosen," he told him, "Having committed such a disturbance of your nature and adding it with a dark heart like yours, it turned you into a living corpse... Now, without your energies, you become what ends a corpse: dust

With that explanation, Hyzard was terrified to see that the rest of his body was also experimenting the same thing. In the end, it completely fell apart and the Hybrid disappeared from this world and the other... forever.

(A few hours later…)

It was sunset when Rex and Katie, back in their base forms, packed some food and said goodbye to the entire Charicific clan.

"Wow, it's weird seeing you big first and then small," his father said to Rex.

"Well, my adoptive father once told me that anyone is big inside," he responded.

"He is very wise, and he has educated you well, my boy."

Then he turned to his mother.

"Rex, your father and I are proud of how you have grown up and found your key," his mother told him, "I know you will be able to stop this madness of the invaders."

"Thank you, mom and… I promise I'll be back."

"I hope so. Take care of yourselves"

And so, both chosen kids left that place, hoping to find their friends.

"Do you know something?" Katie told Rex, "I totally feel like a chosen girl."

"Well, I feel like I have filled in that something I was missing," he responded, "It's like Xerneas said: it was going back to the origins. I wonder if our friends would understand that soon…"
