Normal Saturday with My Completely Normal Friend

Chapter 1

That Thursday evening was a model example of an ordinary weekday evening. Nate sat at his desk doing his homeworks, Whisper was browsing internet on his Yo-kai Pad and Jibanyan was sleeping on Nate's bed.

A yawn escaped from Nate's mouth. "This day has been so boring," he muttered as he stared absent-mindedly at his math homework.

Whisper rose his gaze from his tablet in Nate's direction. "It has really been peaceful lately. We haven't seen any yo-kai inspiriting anybody for a while," he admitted. "That's a good thing though, isn't it?"

"Yeah," Nate replied while stretching his arms. "But it would be nice if something happened. The last days have been nothing but repetition."

Just when the young Yo-kai Watch user had said those words, a sound was heard from Whisper's tablet.

"Hm? A new message? I wonder who is it from?" Whisper wondered aloud as he opened the message application.

Nate was just going to focus back on his homeworks when a sharp gasp from Whisper's direction made him turn his attention back to his butler. Jibanyan also woke up and sat up.

"What it is, Whisper?" Nate asked, feeling both curious and a little worried when he saw Whisper staring at his tablet's screen with his mouth hanging open.

"What nyow?" Jibanyan asked drowsily.

Whisper didn't reply, he just floated in the air completely paralyzed. But finally, a couple of seconds later, he regained his calm and turned to face his master with pleased smile. "Oh, it's nothing. Lord Enma himself just contacted me."

Nate's eyebrows rose. Jibanyan was now completely awake and staring at the ghostly butler with surprised expression.

"Lord Enma sent you a message? What it's about?" Nate asked with a hint of cautiousness in his tone.

If Lord Enma was contacting, it could be a very serious and worrisome situation.

"It's probably something very important that only experienced and refined yo-kai such as myself can help him with," Whisper assumed, beaming with satisfaction.

Both Nate and Jibanyan were staring at Whisper in a way that said that they didn't believe a word he said.

"Could you already tell us what the message says?" Nate asked with slightly annoyed tone.

Whisper tapped the screen, cleared his throat and began reading: "'Dear Nate's yo-kai butler' – he refers to me by my title, how mature – 'lately I haven't been able to relax properly due to the responsibilities of my position. That's why I'd like you to ask Nate if he would be free to hang out with me in Springdale this Saturday. I look forward your quick reply. - Lord Enma'."

"Aha, he just wanted to use you as a messenger between him and Nyate," Jibanyan chuckled.

Whisper glared at the nekomata. "Well, at least this shows that Lord Enma trusts me!" he snapped.

"Saturday with Lord Enma?" Nate thought aloud before a smile rose on his face. "That could be fun. But I have to ask my parents first if we have any plans for that day."

"Hurry up. I don't want to be known as a butler whose master takes his time to reply to the Yo-kai King's messages," Whisper ordered with pompous tone.

Nate just rolled his eyes as he got up from his chair and left his room.

Nate's parents were sitting on the living room couch, watching the news when their son arrived downstairs.

"Hey, mom and dad," Nate began as he stopped next to the couch, gaining his parents' attention. "Can I ask you something?"

"What it is, Nate?" Mrs. Adams asked.

"One of my friends would like to know if I could spend time with him in the town this Saturday," Nate explained. "Do we have any plans for that day?"

"I don't think so," Mr. Adams replied before he turned his head to face his wife. "Right, dear?"

"We don't have anything for next weekend," Mrs. Adams verified.

"So, does that mean that I can go meet my friend?" Nate ensured.

"Sure. As long as you're not out too late," Mrs. Adams replied.

"Yes! Thanks, mom and dad!" Nate thanked excitedly before he hurried back towards the stairs leading upstairs.

Friday had been peaceful in all respects. No difficult quizzes or inspiriting yo-kai. English class had just ended and Nate was putting his books in his backpack when his friends Bear, Eddie and Katie approached him.

"Hey, Nate. Are you free to hang out tomorrow?" Bear asked with a smile.

"New games have arrived in the game store and tomorrow would be a great opportunity to check them out," Eddie told eagerly.

Nate felt guilt rise in his chest. "Sorry, guys. But I had already agreed to spend tomorrow with my other friend," he explained apologetically.

His friends' expressions changed from cheerful to disappointed.

"Oh, bummer," Bear muttered.

"Too bad. I have other plans for today and Sunday," Eddie informed with chagrined expression.

"Same here," Katie sighed. "It would had been nice to have fun together this weekend."

Katie's words lowered Nate's mood even more. He would have liked to spend time with his friends – and maybe a little bit more with Katie – but Nate had already promised to meet Lord Enma that day. If only he could hang out with all of them at the same time-

Nate's eyes widened in realization. "Why didn't I think that in the first place?" he wondered to himself before he addressed his friends, this time sounding more enthusiastic: "Guys. If it's okay to my friend, would you mind if he joins us and we all spend the day together?"

Nate's proposal received a warm welcome immediately.

"That's a great idea," Bear said jovially.

"Sounds good to me," Eddie replied with a smile.

Katie smiled brightly in a way that made butterflies fly in Nate's stomach. "I really hope your friend agrees with your idea," she said.

"Okay," Nate said as he rose from his desk. "I'm going to see if my friend would answer my call now. I'll let you know if I get his opinion on the arrangement."

"Are you really going to ask if Lord Enma would like to spend time with your friends?" Whisper asked when he and Nate were standing behind the corner of the school.

"Of course. Why not?" Nate demanded as he placed his hands on his waist.

"But your friends don't know that he's the ruler of the Yo-kai World! If they accidentally offend him or something else, we'll be in serious trouble!" Whisper noted with worried expression.

"But Lord Enma has said that he enjoys learning about the human world and what would be better way to learn about it than spending time with normal humans?" Nate reasoned confidently.

"Yeah. But I'm mostly worried about Zazel's thoughts…"

"Good point, actually… But Lord Enma is a reasonable person. If something happens, I'm sure that we'll able to reason with him and he'll take care of it if it causes problems among the yo-kai."

"I guess…"

"Thought so. So if you could already send a message to Lord Enma and ask whether the arrangement would suit him?"

Whisper took his Yo-kai Pad out and began writing the message to Lord Enma. A moment later he announced: "Alright, the message has been sent. But remember that Lord Enma is very busy person. It may take him hours before he can- Oh, he replied already."

"Great. What does he say?" Nate asked.

"He says that the arrangement suits him well and that he's curious to meet your human friends," Whisper told as he read the message through.

"Amazing! I'll go tell the others right away," Nate decided eagerly before he went to look for his friends in the school yard, Whisper floating close behind him.

To be continue...
