Chapter 1 - Another dirty little Malfoy secret.

Fourth year

Theseus Nott strode into the library looking for the head of pale blonde hair he knew so well.

He located her quickly.

There she was sitting at a desk with two chairs looking out of the window beside her at the quidditch grounds bellow.

He sat down in front of her breaking her out of her stupor before she could berate him for not announcing himself and scaring her half to death he began to explain what he had found out from his father.

"Hogwarts keeps a record of magical births it's a big book hidden in the headmistress's office it has the name of the child, where they were born, mother, father and blood status. It's used to detect the magical children who will receive their letter to hogwarts in the July before their first year."

Lyra Yaxley was his best friend and that meant that he knew her more than anyone sometimes Theo could argue more than she knew herself.

And he knew that Lyra wanted to know who her father was no matter how much she protested this. She wanted to know why he decided not to be in her life, why he had abandoned Lyra and her mother, why they weren't good enough. She was ashamed of it. Ashamed of wanting, yearning to know more about her father, of where she came from.

So Theo had taken it upon himself to find a way for her to be able to do so.

Theo had been told stories about this magical birth record book that was somewhere in hogwarts so he decided to go to his father when he was at home for Christmas who Theo believed knew absolutely everything about Everything.

Theodore Nott was Theo's hero he was the father that Lyra wished she had, the father Theo believed she deserved.

He went to his father who was in his study sitting behind his grand oak desk in spryshire Manor one of the Nott families many homes with a cup of coffee in his hands.

He sat down in the chair opposite.

"Hello father" he said.

"What is it you are after Theo? You never normally come into my study unless you are up to something"

Damn it Theo cursed mentally his father could read him like one of his overly intellectual books on healing remedies or Advanced charms for the pureblood elite. Stuff Theo would never be able to concentrate on or have the time for he was fourteen for gods sake his interests included Qudditch, wizards chess and Alice Longbottom in that exact order.

"I've heard things..." he started slowly.

"About a magical book that contains records of every witch and wizards birth in England and it's in hogwarts."

He looked to his father to gauge his reaction his face was wiped of any emotion but he raised a brow in amusement urging Theo to go on.

"I've also heard that the book also contains information on the child's blood status and their parents. I wondered if that was true and how one might be able to get their hands on such a book"

Theodore Nott exhaled slowly putting his cup of coffee down on the desk and called for his house elf wallie.

With a snap he appeared and bowed so low his nose touched the surface of the carpet. Wallie was young and overly eager to please.

"Master Theodore is needing wallies help? Oh this makes Wallie so happy! Master Theodore could have called on any other elf but he chooses wallie!" An excited squeaky voice said his nose still scraping the carpet.

"Wallie straighten up I'm not bloody Merlin" said Theodore "no need to bow so low you look like your smelling the carpet" his face was serious but his eyes showed a hint of wanting to smile at the elves silly eager behaviour.

The house elf snapped up immediately and began to apologise profusely but Theodore held up a hand to stop him.

"I need a bottle of Irish whiskey, two glasses and one cigar, my son is going to put me into an early grave" he joked with the elf but Wallie looked absolutely horrified at the thought of his masters demise and shot a panicked look at Theo as if he was going to jump up and avada kadava his father right there and then.

"Now please Wallie" said Theodore after a few moments had went by and the elf was still staring at Theo as if he had just transfigured himself into Voldemort.

"Yes of course master, right away master, oh how despicable wallie is for making his Master wait."

He was gone with a snap.

The whiskey, glasses and Cigar was on the desk within moments and Theodore poured himself and his son a glass. He lit his cigar with the tip of his wand and gestured to the untouched glass of whiskey in front of his son indicating him to take a drink.

Theo eagerly picked up the glass and took a sip. His father let him have whiskey on occasions ever since he turned thirteen he said a wizard needed to refine his palate well before he came of age and was thrust into wizarding society.

Cigars were a definite no though believe me Theo had tried and was rewarded with a sharp look and an explanation of how Theodore didn't want that particular habit that he had took on in his fifth year because of the stress of refusing to be a death eater and how that enacted his own fathers rage to be passed onto his son.

It was an act of rebellion in a way. They were of muggle invention and it was a last fuck you to his father by Theodore even knowing what they were let alone smoking the things. He had grown found of the stress reliever and still to this day couldn't rid of them completely, he didn't want that for his son. A man should have no addictions and his son would be a better man than him.

His son had no war to fight no evil father to escape and therefore no cigars or cigarettes to smoke.

"This book you speak of does indeed exist it is kept in the headmasters office, oh headmistress I mean" he said taking a swig of his whisky "I sometimes still forget that Dumbledore is no more."

"It is kept in a glass case that is protected against unwelcome advances on the book"

Theo interrupted for the first time that evening.

"But why would anyone want to steal a book of birth records"

Theodore looked away from his cigar and gestured towards his son as if to say why are we having this conversation if that's not exactly what you want.

Theo blushed at his stupidness and said "I don't want to steal it just borrow it."

"Well.." Theodore started slowly "it is protected from anyone who wants to borrow this book, for example if death eaters had gotten their hands on it during the war they would know of every muggleborn and where they were born they would also be aware of any pureblood bastards that had tainted the line of their ancestors. They would also know where to find the pureblood responsible and how to punish them."

Theo paled he never would of thought of anything like that.

"You see Theo knowledge is power, it may be just a book to you and i but in the wrong hands it is a map to every magical child in Britain and shines a light on any disloyal purebloods".

"However if my son was in need of this book I'm assuming to help his friend find out something they are currently unaware of then the spell needed to get past this charm is called "Vexanomous selargato."

He looked at his son with a smirk "I better not get any letters home about my son breaking into the heads office."

Theo smirked back and knocked the last of his whiskey down, his throat burning.

"Of course not father, I am a Slytherin after all, I'm sure I can find a way to use my cleverness and resourcefulness to remain undetected."

Theodore chuckled and poured himself another glass raising it to Theo then downing the whole thing.

"That's my boy" he said proudly.

Theo devised a plan to get into McGonagalls office. Which was going to need a third party in order for it to work, he decided to recruit Cade Yaxley Lyras very Gryffindor Cousin. He decided that McGonagall would probably believe what a Gryffindor was saying more likely than a Slytherin. She was headmistress yes but everyone was a little prejudiced against Slytherins even some Slytherins including Lyra herself, yes it was better to be safe then sorry.

He decided that with a simple invillitae charm which allowed the caster to remain invisible for about four minutes if they were lucky they would be able to get in and out within that time and if they weren't?

Well let's just say the spell can't be preformed twice in the same hour so they better hope they don't get caught.

They all met up outside McGonagalls office Lyra was extremely nervous and was wondering if it was too late to turn back around and run in the other direction.

Her Cousin Cade bless his Gryffindor heart was going into this completely blind all he knew was that Lyra needed him to distract McGonagall for twenty minutes and his foolish self had decided that was all he needed to know in order to help.

"You guys ready" he asked this in a whisper his blue eyes looking between Theo and Lyra.

They both nodded and swept their wands into a circular motion and whispering "invillitae."

Cade nodded at them and started banging his hands on McGonagalls door "please professor are you in there? A fifth year tried to apparate inside hogwarts oh professor" he said dramatically

"I tried to tell him about the wards but he wouldn't listen he splinched himself so badly I'm not sure how much of him is left at this point" he said putting the back of his hand on his head like he was going to swoon.

The door swung open immediately. Cade grabbed onto the front of her robes sobbing into them "please help professor I didn't know what else to do but come to you, come quick before it's too late."

"Oh dear Albus how on earth did you do this for so long" she grumbled to herself then turned towards Cade.

"Lead the way Mr Yaxley" said McGonagall hurrying down the corridor after him."

They slipped inside the open door.

What they found was shocking but also not, they were not expecting these results but at the same time it made sense.

There she was on October the 1st 2003 but her name wasn't Lyra Willa Yaxley it was Lyra Willa Malfoy, Mother Lyanna Willa Yaxley and father Draco Lucius Malfoy.

Born at Malfoy manor in Wiltshire.

Blood status Half-blood.

Lyra had gone pale she felt sick.

Mr Malfoy was her father?

No it was completely impossible, insane absolutely barking mad. She said so to Theo And he looked at her grimly.

"Lyra" he started hesitantly not exactly sure how to put his next words, Lyra was already freaking out.

"It makes sense, that he's never been in your life, the Malfoys are as pure as you can be and I can't imagine that they were happy to learn that their would be a half blood with their blood. Their line tainted, it would have been a scandal an embarrassment to them. Plus you look like him, I can't believe I've never seen it before. Your pale blonde hair is not common and you have his grey eyes but your features are a bit softer"

Lyra couldn't believe it.

Theo was right his words kept repeating over and over again in her head.

She was an embarrassment, a scandal.

That's what her existence was to them.

He had never wanted her she was something to cover up, something to keep hidden just another dirty little Malfoy secret.

It hurt, more than it should. She was hoping he had just been some silly halfblood or muggleborn that just didn't want a child wasn't ready for one but this man had a child he was in the year bellow Lyra.

Scorpius Malfoy.

She had a brother.

A Brother who was worthy of the Malfoy name, of their blood.

Draco was ready to be a father just not her father.

She hated them. She hated all of them even Scorpius who she doubted even knew about her. Who was she kidding of course he didn't know, he wouldn't of been told about his father's disgusting, shameful, halfblood bastard.

Her eyes welled with tears and she willed them to go away she had shed enough tears over him. When she was a little girl she would wish for her father to come back.

He hadn't left her he was just late very very late and when he got back from his Quest that included saving people and helping the magical world he would come back for her and take her to his big castle that the minister had awarded him for saving everyone alongside Harry Potter.

It was a foolish fantasy, a child's dream.

She turned to Theo quickly grabbing his hands and saying urgently "this has to stay between us, no one can ever know about this, promise me" the pleading in her voice was almost unbearable for Theo to hear, she was terrified that this would get out.

"I would never betray you, I swear on our friendship, my father and my family name that I will take this secret to my grave" he said earnestly willing her to believe him, to trust him.

She nodded and the tears she tried so desperately to hold back sprang forth as she wrapped her arms around him and cried they were no longer invisible and they ought to be leaving but Theo couldn't find it in his heart to tell her.

He just held her trying to give her comfort and make her feel better by sheer force of will.

He didn't say anything she didn't need him to talk knowing he was there that he always would be by her side like he always had been even when it was the last thing she wanted was more than enough.
