CHAPTER 40
Rose, I was about to go crazy. After meeting Aunt Elizabeth, she looked for Charlotte and learned her entire story and the loss of her farm.
—Charlote, you know that Elizabeth has nothing to do with this story, don't you?
— I know, Rose;
—Charlote, that woman is kindness personified; she would never do anything to you or anyone else. She would never help her father, take away or confiscate his farm and she has nothing to do with Tom's job.
— I know, Rose; Charlotte spoke.
—But Charlotte, you have to understand, that she loves Jack, more than anything in life. She would never hurt you, because hurting you means hurting Jack.
— I know, Rose... Charlotte tried to speak, but Rose, in her desperation to protect Elizabeth, didn't give her the chance. Charlotte crossed her arms and decided to let Rose say whatever she wanted. It was good to see that she acquired that human side.
— Rose, Elizabeth...
— I know, Charlotte. She is a princess, a lady, a lady, she lived with a lot of money, more than either of us would ever imagine existed.
- Yes...
—But Charlotte, she's a good girl. You need to give her a chance...
— Rose, I don't need to..., but Rosemary doesn't let her complete the sentence.
— Yes, Charlotte does; As far as I'm concerned, you still like me, so you need to give Elizabeth a chance. She has her mistakes, like anyone. And one of them is that she is usually right and I am wrong; laughed Rose.
Charlotte saw the love that Rose had for Elizabeth, but since she was so agitated, she decided to test her.
- Why? Why should I give her a chance? She's no different from anyone else... she said it well.
— Yes, charlotte. She is special. She could throw me aside, because you don't know, but I came here last year to try to win Jack back, even though our engagement was two years old, but I thought I was the center of his life. I lost everything in New York, and that's why I came after him. They were dating and I did everything to make her jealous. I even grabbed him and kissed him in front of her. They fought, they went through a lot and it was my fault, but they loved each other very much and their love won. And when I left, without destination; Elizabeth called me, talked to me and ended up introducing me into Hope Valle society. She is my best friend, she is a sister to me. Charlotte, for all that is most sacred, give her a chance, and you will meet the best person of your life, a heart like that doesn't exist...
Charlotte smiled, she had already heard everything she needed and grabbing Rose by the shoulders, she said:
— Rose, listen here... I love you like a daughter, and I can assure you that I don't need to give you a chance...
— Please, Charlotte! Meowed Rose.
—Listen to me until the end, Rosemary; I want to say that I don't need to give Elizabeth any chance, because I already love her, like a daughter. During these days that I was here, I had the honor of meeting her and seeing a little of her beautiful heart. But now Rose, we need to go to the police station, I have to tell that boy some truths.
And so, the two went to the police station, Hickman, already knew Rose, and for her sake, he decided, to leave them talking alone with the prisoner, with some privacy.
— Tom, I can't believe you did that, to Elizabeth? Rose spoke with her hands on her hips.
— Rose, I just wanted to free my brother from that family. And now you can marry him...
— Tom, you idiot. I have been married for almost a year now, to Lee Coulter, my beloved husband. And Elizabeth is his brother's wife.
— She was engaged and involved my brother. Shouted Tom altered.
— She was not engaged. Her father, who is forcing that marriage with Charles. She never accepted...
— I can't believe you're my son. Charlotte looked at Tom, ashamed.
- Mother; If she leaves and stays with them, our problems will be over.
— Mom, nothing, Tom! I already told you the story of your father's brother and everything he did to me. And now it's my daughter, Tom... You've put her in the same dangerous position I've been in.
— She'll be fine mom, he's her fiancé and the other is her father.
Charlote, unable to stand seeing her son, so caught up in revenge that he couldn't see what was under his own eyes, screamed:
— You brat. That Charles is violent, even the judge here is already after him and that father looks at her inappropriately. She is afraid of him, as a woman, do you understand what you did to her?
— Mom, Charles said he would take care of her.
— And you believed it? A man who kidnaps his wife and attacks her so much that she faints, all in front of you, and you did nothing to help her. What do you think he's doing with her now?
—He can't hurt you, mother; He promised. I wouldn't have helped if I hadn't trusted him.
— I hope nothing happens to her, or your brother will kill you, and I'll still have to help him. shouted Charlotte, who was red with anger.
—And if he doesn't kill you, I, Rosemary Leveaux Coulter, will kill you with my own hands. I don't allow anyone, not even you Tom Thorton, to hurt my best friend and my sister. Rose screamed, her cheeks red with anger.
When they left, Tom sat with his hands on his head." WHAT HAPPENED? EVERYONE, INCLUDING HIS MOTHER AND ROSE, WERE AGAINST HIM. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT IN HIS CRAZY BLINDNESS, HE ENDED UP THROWING A WOMAN INTO THE HANDS OF AN EVIL MAN."
And so Tom heard the man at the table saying in a low voice:
— Pray nothing happens to her, or you'll have to settle accounts with me too. Hickman had a frown on his face and spoke through his teeth.
Tom, in his pain of conscience, was already praying, because only God could protect that woman. And so he closed his eyes and once again saw those blue eyes, and heard his voice screaming for help...
