CHAPTER 41

Bill, Wynn and several other men returned to the meeting point, all the cabins, within the perimeter of the area allocated to each, had been searched. In every corner or under every stone it had been checked, but nowhere was there any trace of Elizabeth's whereabouts.

Carson was preparing the wagon with a blanket spread out and leaving some other blankets to wrap around her body. They didn't know what they would find, or her condition, but they would preserve her as much as possible. Bonfires were set up and now they were waiting for Lee and Jack's group with Frankison, everyone else was there praying that they had found her.

— Wynn, can I ask you a question?

— Of course, Bill.

— Were you present when your wife gave birth? Bill spoke somewhat reluctantly.

— No, Bill! I was on duty. I was at the Mountie base in Hamilton, where I served for sixty days. That afternoon, there was a storm and it flooded the city, I was trapped there for hours. When I called Willian's house, I was surprised because he was already there.

— Are you sure about everything that happened that day?

— Look, I thought I had it. At least until he saw Elizabeth's photo.

— I think Wynn, that you should talk to your wife, no matter how painful those moments of losing a daughter are, maybe there is something to discover in this whole story.

— I agree, Bill. I think it's a lot of coincidence that they look so much alike.
