Although my story is mostly based on the games, I couldn't resist to use that one certain scene from the second Yo-kai Watch movie.

Normal Saturday with My Completely Normal Friend

Chapter 4

As anybody could had expected, Nom Burger was quite full of customers that day. Only a couple of tables were still vacant.

Three boys, Andy, Mark and Daniel, were sitting at the table next to the window and talking while waiting for their orders.

"You know that old mansion in Blossom Height, right? Let's go explore it tomorrow!" Andy proposed eagerly.

Daniel didn't seem very enthusiastic. "But what if the owner of the place shows up while we are there? We may be accused of trespassing," he noted worriedly.

"Alex has told me that a part of the gate has fallen down. If the owners still visited there, the gate would have been repaired or at least they would have left a some kind of prohibition board in front of it, right?" Andy stated. When he noticed that his friend still looked unsure, Andy added encouragingly: "But if we happen to encounter the owners, we can just apologize and promise that we won't do it again."

By a chance Mark happened to glance in the direction of the counter. "Oh, Nate and others are here too."

Andy and Daniel turned their attention towards the counter and they too noticed Nate and his friends there, placing their orders.

"Hey, you're right. And they seem to have a new friend?" Andy said curiously when he noticed Enma.

Daniel and Mark too focused their attention on Enma.

"What a scary looking guy," Daniel commented nervously. "He looks like those kind of guys my mom has told me to stay away from."

"Really? I think he looks cool. And if he's Nate's friend, then he isn't necessarily a bad guy," Andy stated with a confident smile.

Mark frowned slightly. "I might not be so sure…" he muttered.

"Looks like they have placed their orders," Andy noted, not hearing Mark's muttering, before he stood up. "Hi, guys!"

After hearing the shout, Nate and others turned their heads and noticed Andy and his friends.

"Oh. It's Andy, Daniel and Mark," Eddie stated with a smile before their group started walking towards Andy and others.

"Nice to see you here," Nate said jovially when they had reached their classmates.

"Likewise," Andy replied. He then addressed Enma: "Hi. We haven't met before. I'm Andy."

"My name is Emmanuel," Enma introduced himself with a casual smile. "I assume that you're classmates of my friend Nate as well?"

"That's right. And these are Daniel and Mark," Andy told as pointed at his friends.

"H-Hi," Daniel greeted.

"Hello," Mark said.

"It's nice to meet you guys," Enma said with a nod.

Katie glanced at the empty table next to the boys' table. "Do you know if somebody is using this table?" Katie asked as she pointed to it.

"No. We haven't seen anybody sitting in it," Daniel replied.

"Nice. We can sit here then," Katie decided cheerfully.

Their orders arrived after some time and soon the sounds of talking and quiet eating filled the space between them.

"Hey, Emmanuel. Are you going to eat all your fries?" Bear asked from Enma as he pointed at his fries.

"Hmmm… It depends… Can I have some of your chicken nuggets in exchange?" Enma asked with a playful smile.

"Deal," Bear laughed before he reached up to grab some of Enma's fries while Enma took three pieces of chicken nuggets from Bear, making others chuckle.

"See? That Emmanuel isn't bad guy after all," Andy whispered to Daniel and Mark.

"Yeah…" Daniel admitted quietly. "But it's still surprising that Nate has befriended with somebody like him."

Katie, sitting closest to the boys, heard their conversation and stopped drinking her soda as she stared at both Nate and Enma curiously. "You know… I have been thinking this for a while: How did you two became friends?" she asked.

Nate stiffened, fully aware that everybody were staring at him curiously and expectantly. "Crap! How should I answer that? I can't tell them that we met in the Yo-kai world," he thought feverishly to himself. "What should I do? Should I lie that we met at the arcade or something?"

Whisper and Jibanyan followed their human partner's inner struggle from the side.

"Good grief. I can't believe that Nate doesn't have an answer to the most common question," Whisper sighed as he shook his head.

"He probably nyever thought that he'll introduce Lord Enma to his human friends someday," Jibanyan stated.

"Nate saved my life."

These surprising words made everybody snap their attention at Enma.

"It happened some time ago when I was visiting Springdale," Enma began telling calmly. "I was walking down the street when I stopped to look at my phone. Suddenly Nate appeared beside me and pulled me forward. Only then I noticed a pick-up truck parked next to me and that the heavy construction pipes it had carried had fallen right where I had been standing. After that I decided to get to know Nate better and we befriended soon after that."

Silence fell among the children as Nate's classmates stared at Enma and Nate with wide eyes.

"Woah…" Eddie whispered.

"So cool," Andy gasped.

"That's amazing, Nate!" Bear exclaimed joyfully as he reached up to slap Nate's back, causing Nate to gasp in pain.

Katie also turned her gaze at Nate. "That was very bravely done, Nate," she praised with a smile.

Nate's face flushed with delight. "I-It was nothing…" he claimed but at the same time he was thinking happily: "Does Katie finally think I'm cool?"

"You better not get any dangerous ideas from this, Nate," Whisper warned with worried expression.

Enma glanced at blushing Nate and then at smiling Katie. An amused glint appeared into Enma's eyes and his lips curled into a smile as a certain conclusion came to his mind.

"Speaking of cool… Have you ever visited that abandoned manor?" Andy asked suddenly.

"You mean that one in Blossom Height, don't you?" Eddie asked after everybody had turned their attention at Andy.

"That's right. We're going to go explore it tomorrow," Andy told eagerly.

"Only if the owners aren't there," Daniel added quickly.

"Of course," Andy nodded.

"I've heard rumors about that place," Bear told as he gave others a mysterious look. "Apparently people have heard music from there and somebody once claimed to have seen lights there. One of the priests from the temple has told that spirits are partying there and trying to attract people to the manor in order to lure them to the Afterlife."

Enma sipped his soda. "Apparently that priest is capable to see the yo-kai because that was almost a correct guess. Except for that 'luring-people-to-the-Afterlife' thing," he thought to himself.

Bear glanced at Enma. "You're interested in ghosts and such, Emmanuel. Have you ever been there?"

"Actually yes," Enma admitted, gaining everybody else's attention.

"Really? Did you find any ghosts there?" Andy asked curiously.

"Probably," Enma replied with a mysterious smile. "The doors opened by themselves, hurried footsteps were heard from the empty corridors and I swear that I heard muttering and whispering from the rooms."

In reality Enma had visited the manor as a guest of Chirpster's party but his description made sense to the people who couldn't see the yo-kai.

Almost everybody stared Enma in awe, except Eddie, who seemed doubtful, and Nate, who knew about the yo-kai living in the manor.

"So exciting," Andy gasped. "Would you guys like to come with us to the manor tomorrow? Perhaps the ghosts will appear again."

"I can come," Nate offered and added to himself in his thoughts: "Somebody has to make sure that they won't be attacked by hostile yo-kai."

"I would be interested in joining in order to see what really caused Emmanuel's observations but I have plans with my parents tomorrow," Eddie said.

"Unfortunately, I can't make it either. I have work again from tomorrow onwards," Enma told with a sigh.

Nate, Whisper and Jibanyan twitched while Nate's classmates gave Enma a confused look. The eyes of the yo-kai king widened slightly as he realized his slip of the tongue.

"Work?" Mark repeated in confusion. "But aren't you the same age as us?"

"I meant school work," Enma lied. "My family is very strict about my education."

"Ah, of course. It couldn't have been anything else," Eddie stated, pleased with the reasonable answer.

The rest of the time was spent chatting in good spirits. After they had taken their trash away and agreed about tomorrow, Nate and others said farewell to Andy, Daniel and Mark and started walking down the street without a specific destination.

"Hey, guys. I'm getting a little tired from constant walking," Eddie sighed some time later.

"Same here," Bear groaned. "How about we go somewhere to sit for a while?"

"Sure. How about the beach? It would be nice to sit on the sand on such a sunny day," Katie proposed.

Katie's proposition was accepted unanimously and the group headed towards the beach of Downtown Springdale.

The beach was desolated and therefore a good place for Nate's group to relax. Children placed their shopping bags on the sand before both they and the yo-kai sat down.

"You were right once again, Katie. It feels so good to sit on the sand in the sunlight," Nate praised as he closed his eyes and leaned back in order to enjoy the warmth.

"This is so nyice…" Jibanyan sighed blissfully as he lied in the sunlight next to Nate.

"Luckily, the sunscreen isn't necessary today," Whisper commented jovially as he floated casually in the air.

Katie and Eddie too closed their eyes in order to enjoy the warmness of sunlight. Bear was laying on the sand and he had folded his hands behind his head. Enma in other hand had wrapped his arms around his knees and staring silently in the direction of the sea.

Nobody paid attention to how long they had been sitting there when suddenly a shadow appeared above them.

"Hello, everybody!"

The greeting made Nate and others open their eyes and notice that they were once again face to face with acquaintances.

"Alex! It's so nice to see again!" Katie greeted the only girl of the arrived trio.

"And Eric and Kenny too. Hi!" Nate greeted the boys with a smile.

"It's nice to see you guys too," Alex replied cheerfully before her attention was focused to Enma who stared at them with polite interest. "And I see that your gang has a new member."

Enma stood up and smiled at them. "Hi. My name is Emmanuel."

"Nice to meet you, Emmanuel. I'm Alex," Alex introduced herself jovially.

"Hi. My name is Eric," Eric introduced while raising his hand.

"And I'm Kenny. Hi," Kenny greeted with somewhat nervous expression.

Katie noticed a ball Alex was carrying under her arm. "Oh, so you're here to play volleyball, aren't you?"

"Yeah. We want to be in a good condition when we play again at school," Alex confirmed while throwing the ball in her hands a couple of times.

"But…" Eddie said as he looked around. "You don't seem to have a volleyball net with you. And there doesn't seem to be one either, so how you were going to play?"

"We can play without the net," Alex assured confidentally. "And if you come along, we can play four-on-four teams. What do you say?"

"Of course! Sounds like fun," Katie said as she stood up.

"Count me in too," Nate announced as he did the same.

"Same here," Bear agreed as he and Eddie followed their example.

"I'm not sure if volleyball without the net can be called playing real volleyball but at least we can practice shots," Eddie stated while shrugging.

"Great! Let's do it!" Alex exclaimed eagerly as she started leading others elsewhere.

Whisper and Jibanyan stayed put while the children walked a short distance away from them.

"I can't understand how Nyate and others can even think of playing sports on such a finye day," Jibanyan wondered lazily before he collapsed back onto the sand to lie down.

"Well, not everybody can be a loafer like you," Whisper snorted as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"I can't hear you. I'm sleeping," Jibanyan announced as he closed his eyes.

"Alright. This line here will serve as 'the net'," Alex decided as she drew the line in the sand with a stick. Then she turned to face others. "How are we going to be divided into teams?"

"How about our gang versus yours?" Bear proposed with a grin.

"No way! There are two more of you than us," Kenny noted.

"Oh, right," Bear said with slightly awkward expression.

"We can be divided like that if you want but somebody from your group must come to our side for the game," Alex stated as she studied Nate's group with thoughtful look.

"You're probably an experienced volleyball player because you're from San Fantastico, Emmanuel," Katie said to Enma.

"I have played a couple of times but I'm definitely not experienced," Enma replied.

"So you're from San Fantastico?" Eric, who was standing next to them, commented with surprised expression. "My grandparents live there."

"That's nice to hear. I hope you have had a good time in San Fantastico when you're visiting them," Enma said politely.

"Pretty much. It has always been nice to go to the beach with them," Eric told.

"Hey, Katie! Do you want to play with us?" Alex asked suddenly, gaining others' attention.

"Of course," Katie replied cheerfully.

"Great! Let's all get in our sides, so we can get started," Alex prompted eagerly.

Alex, Katie, Kenny and Eric lined up on the other side of the line while Bear, Eddie, Enma and Nate went to the other side.

"4-2," Nate sighed as the children sat on the sand after the game.

"Darn. I thought that we would have had a chance to win when the game was 2-2," Bear groaned.

"Don't take it too seriously, guys. You were great too," Katie comforted her friends.

Bear grinned suddenly. "It was pretty funny when both Nate and Emmanuel tried to hit the incoming ball at the same time but the ball hit Nate in the face and then he hit his head in Emmanuel's face," he chuckled.

Nate glanced at Bear with annoyed expression. "I didn't think it was funny at all," he said sternly.

"Sorry. Sorry," Bear apologized.

"Except for that incident, I had fun playing," Enma commented casually.

Alex turned her head to face Enma. "You were a good player, Emmanuel, although your shots went over quite often," she noted with a good-natured smile.

"Yeah," Eric agreed. "It was quite a distance we had to go to get the ball back couple of times."

"Sorry about that," Enma apologized with a slight smile. "But while playing, it quickly became clear that you are used to sports."

"That's right. Alex is the best girl in our class in sports and Eric is great at dancing," Katie told.

"Yeah, I noticed," Enma stated as he turned his attention to Katie. "You too had very strong shots, Katie. And Kenny was quick on his feet and he had good reaction skill. You were really difficult opponents."

Kenny's eyes widened, his expression being a mixture of surprise and delight. "Uumm… Thanks," he thanked awkwardly.

"You're so nice, Emmanuel," Alex commented with a grin before she glanced at her classmates. "Does anybody else besides me want to go to Everymart to get a drink?" she asked.

"I want!" Kenny announced.

"Same here," Eric said.

"Yeah. A drink would do a good right now," Nate agreed.

"I think I'm going to get an ice cream in addition to soda," Bear thought aloud.

"But we already had ice creams at Nom Burger before we came here," Eddie reminded him.

Bear gave his friend a look of slight annoyance. "Where it is written that you can only eat one ice cream a day? It's the weekend now. Let's enjoy it while we can!"

"He has a good point," Enma noted to Nate who chuckled.

Katie grabbed her shopping bag as she stood up. "Make sure that you don't forget anything here before we leave," she reminded her friends.

"Of course," Nate promised. As he grabbed his plastic bag, Nate nudged sleeping Jibanyan as quickly and imperceptibly as possible.

When the drowsy nekomata sat up and gave his human partner a look of annoyance, Nate gestured with his head in the direction of his friends who were already walking towards the beach's staircase. Jibanyan stood up with a yawn and began walking with Nate towards Enma and Whisper who had stayed behind to wait for them.

To be continue...
