Chapter 129: The Blunt Hero's Unfinished Business
Jade had stolen several of her uncle's books, again. She was in so much trouble when she got home.
Drum, Maraca, Rose, Gourd, Sword, Fan, Flute, Lilly and Squid Tentacle just in case. Jade had all of the Key ingredients for the banishment spells to send the demon sorcerer's packing, she could even turn her weapon into some of them. After that was the chi spell for dispelling the Shadow Kahn, and she snatched up Tarrakudo's mask from section thirteen and a lock of Tohru's hair from the last time he cut his hair that was still in the trash. She should be able to deal with anything that they throw at her. Should be able to. If all else fails: she'll just use violence.
"Are you ready back there?" Wukong asked as Jade poked her head out of the cloud that Wukong had been using as a flying mount the whole ride over.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Jade stated as she let out a sigh.
"Good. Because I don't think Moose World is going to be open for business any time in the near future." Utilising the Body of Yip the Dark Chi sorcerer, Kyo had used the Pan'Ku box in the man's possession to open the final remaining demon gate, the one that belonged to Shendu. Couple that with the magic formation that Kyo had carved into the park's sign and Kyo had been successful in destroying the Pan'Ku box after the portal had been opened. Now it had been stuck open, a permanent tear through which all ten demons that had been trapped on the other side of the portal could emerge.
"Thanks a lot." Shendu was ever the ugly lizard, a booger green draconic demon wielding the powers of twelve divine animals, until recently he was the singularly strongest demon inside of the prison. Kyo/Yip fell to their knees in reverence to the ten great demons and Shendu gave them their reward, evaporating them right down to their souls with the laser pig eyes. After what they did to him it really was a reward for Kyo.
"Well brother's." Hsi Wu landed on top of the sign, arms spread. "The world awaits us."
"I'll have to go to that annoying Section Thirteen." Tarrakudo stated as he floated up to the siblings in his default disembodied form. "After all we'll need generals if we intend to rule the world."
"If you try to double cross us." Tchang Zu held his hands up and lightning sparked between them.
"No need for any of that." Tarrakudo stated as he thinned out of existence. He wasn't happy about the arrangement he and the sorcerers had reached, but they had both failed in the past before, besides he was more than happy to have them take the heat off of him for a while.
"Attention demon losers!" Jade shouted as she promptly jumped off of Wukong's cloud and landed in front of them. "You guys have until the count of ten to get your butts back through that door and close it before I beat the bad chi out of you! One!" Shendu's dragon breath and Heat vision, alongside lightning, wind, water, spears of earth and crushing gravity all came crashing down on Jade at the same time. Jade had been covered in a ball of shields, one of the skills she took from Kaede when she copied her weapon, course in comparison against Kaede's defences it was absolute garbage but against the likes of these fools? More than enough. Jade dismissed her skill, her patience and the time limit she had given the demon sorcerer's evaporated by the attack.
"Blunt Field." Suddenly the entire area around them were filled with 20 000 blunted pillars that shot out of the ground to upper cut whatever poor schmuck got hit by them, which might've been more effective if the pillars weren't human size and instead tall enough to do some real damage. "Change Instrument: Bouquet Club." And then the pillars turned into a field of flowers, the weapon in question reinforced with the wool of a Yu, female sheep, thus making it a perfect foci for sending the Demon of Earth back to the hell from wince he came. "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao! Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao! Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao!" The various bouquets glowed briefly, and then stopped, the spell fizzling out, as Jade had taken notice of. "Excuse me." As if demonstrating how little she thought about her opponents Jade turned around and took a note book out of her weapon to read.
"Ignorant child." Shendu pointed behind himself at the portal that he and the other demon sorcerers had just crawled out of. "The realm that we were banished to is over there, the item that acted as the seal destroyed."
Jade looked at the shoddy and unstable portal that was really more of a tear than a gate and let out a sigh before she put her book away, ninety percent of the preparations she was desperately scrambling to make while she was on the way over here flushed down the toilet.
"In this world your power has been cut off-" Jade transformed the Blunt Instrument into a club resembling a giant brown turtle's shell. "-the magic that Kyo used to suppress us has been neutralised alongside your weapon! You are powerless-" Shendu was suddenly cut off as Jade jumped through the air and delivered an upper cut with her club directly to the demonic dragon's chin. Jade continued to climb into the sky until she was miles up, afterwards...
"METEOR SLAM X!" Jade's club came down on top of the demon sorcerer's like a meteor.
Captain Black had requisitioned a spy satellite to watch the battle between the demon sorcerers and Jade. He was seeing, but he was having a hard time believing, and thanks to the flat screen built into the jet that was connected to the laptop, so could his allies. Shendu was the only one still standing after that last attack, a fact that Captain Black personally attributed to the double whammy of the Horse and Dog talismans, the others had been put flat on their arses, even Drago who wielded the combined power of eight demon sorcerers needed to use his full power to endure the strike. As someone who wasn't a student of magic, the sum total of his knowledge limited to after action reports and watching demons and sorcerer's tear through his men over the years Jade's weapon was calling into question everything that he knew about the topic, a fact that wasn't nearly as concerning to him as seeing Uncle struggle with the same face as he attempted to figure out what is going on here.
"Somebody please tell me that this is not as bad as I think it is." Captain Black ordered while the others tried to process what was going on.
"Is Jade possessed again!?" Jackie asked unable to tear his eyes off of the screen. "Because I am struggling to think of a logical explanation as to what is happening here."
The group proceeded to watch as Jade and her clubs proceeded to flat out no-sell the Moon demon's gravity powers, turn into a tree that soaked up the water demon and restrained the mountain demon, before it again turned into a club made out of fire to burn out the wind demon.
"Would somebody mind explaining what's going on?" Captain Black asked watching as Jade throttled the various demon sorcerers. "Because past experience, our resident expert, and several bruises all tell me that smacking around demons like this is something that should be impossible. That's just flatly ignoring the question of where in Elvis Presly's name she got that thing in the first place." Captain Black stated indicating the screen.
"Not Chi magic, not any kind of magic Uncle has ever seen before." The old man stated as he paused from his work to observe what was going on, which was good as observing the state of the demon portal he was coming to the understanding that the chi spells he had been working on are now utterly useless. "Must do Research!" And so Uncle went to the personal library that at some point in time Black had all of his men load onto the jet, he would convert the whole thing into a digital format but the old billy goat would probably just smash the hard drive, also said hard drive was liable to grow a mouth and bite someone.
Back at what used to be moose world Jade's battle with the various demon sorcerers had been continuing, Drago had made a crude throne out of the biggest roller coaster in the park and was now watching his father, uncles and aunts fight Jade with great amusement. Drago had been faced with something of a conundrum in the demon realm, he with the combined powers of eight demon sorcerers was the strongest out of the ten demons that had been sealed away in that realm, however his father with the power of the twelve talismans was his match, not to mention that the combined might of the other demons would be able to swiftly overwhelm him. So he instead opted to sit this fight out: Scenario A, Jade beats up all of the other members of his family, he rules alone, option B they kill Jade, are weakened then he claims dominion. So he had opted to sit this one out.
"Extend!" The Ruyi Jingu Bang was a recent addition by Jade, acquired while on her way over from her driver Wukong. It's ability to extend it's size made it a great lightning rod, so she jammed it into the Earth Demon's face and let the lightning come down on it frying the demon in question. And that wasn't the end of it either! "Blunt Field!" Again the field of rods emerged again. "Change Instrument: Ruyi Jingu Bang!" The weapons changed their forms into familiar black staffs. "Extend!" It was said that the Ruyi Jingu Bang was one of the pillars that connects and supports the different layers of reality, it's ability to shrink and compress itself part of the power to maintain that support. While that is not the Staff's origin, instead being the manifestation of the soul of Sun Wukong himself, the fact of the matter was that it was still very effective for what it was used for whether that be supporting or bludgeoning. Twenty thousand pillars shot into the the sky slamming into the bodies of each of the demon sorcerers from different angles. "That should keep yah's busy for a while." Jade muttered while she pulled out a potion from her weapon and uncorked it, before she could drink it though the flask floated away from her.
"Imagine my surprised when I sensed my mask coming directly towards me saving me the trouble of having to dig it out of what's left of Section Thirteen." Tarrakudo stated as he re-materialised, Jade's potion floating right next to him. "I will be taking that, and my men, back now!"
The Staff in Jade's hand turned into a white club, its head the ghastly face of a shark. Memories flashed of the Soul Eater and Tarrakudo immediately backed out of range of the fish monster club, having no desire to have his soul snacked on by the weapon.
"Legendary weapons are pretty good at speed excavation." Taking aim at Tarrakudo Jade wound up her weapon to go on the offensive. "Home Run!" A ball of spirit power with the Soul Eater's face on it appeared in front of Jade who wound up her weapon and swung, striking the ball like she was playing T-Ball and sending the now roaring fish ball flying at Tarrakudo, who vanished again before the ball could strike him. Instead Jade saw that the time limit for Blunt Field was nearing it's limit, and so chose to go with plan B. "Reflect Instrument: Yew Wood Buckler!" The 20 000 pillars of Ruyi Jingu Bang all transformed as one into wood, decorated with countless serpents winding the shafts. "Paralysis poison!" The Serpents came to life, animating into giant puff adders as they clamped down on the numerous demons present, filling their veins with immobilising poison as they fell to the ground.
"""""Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao!"""" Jade released a mixture of emotions at once, relief, annoyance, little bit of frustration. She was going to get a lecture, again, even though her direct intervention had saved the planet from another tide of demons AGAIN! """"Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao!"""" Thousands of Section Thirteen agents were chanting as one, Uncle was dressed in the ceremonial robes of a good Chi wizard, the same ones that he wore when they had last taken Shendu into custody, and just as that time Uncle had pulled the two scrolls out of the sleeves of his uniform and unleashed their contents at the dragon Jade had pinned down in front of the army. Shendu shrunk and was twisted in on himself. Lodge between two pillars was the familiar stone disk that once hung inside of Section Thirteen's vault, twelve now empty slots for the talismans as the magical stones in question were popped out of the demon sorcerer's body.
Jade looked around, Tarrakudo's annoyingly non physical body meant that he wasn't going to be caught by either the paralytics or the pillars, not unless Kaede imbued this thing with poison that can affect the soul. Drago was gone, Moon, Wind and Sky had skipped town while water dissolved away and was now escaping, only mountain, thunder and earth were still pinned down, Shendu trapped in the form of a stone disk. Jade was about intervene to stop the watery demoness when her uncle Jackie ran up her and grabbed Jade around her shoulders.
"WHAT IS GOING ON!?" Jade just sighed as she leaned forward and hugged her uncle.
"...A few days ago I was abducted and taken to another world to act as its hero, probably I assume because I had Uncle's books on me at the time." As if only thinking about it now, Jade took some books out of her weapon and handed them to Uncle. "For me that was over five years ago. Since then I've fought creatures that makes them look like the low tier threats that they really are dozens of times over, usually stuffing them into this thing and making them part of my own power. Now if you don't mind, I have to disregard every piece of advice you two have ever given me." Jade grabbed hold of her uncle's wrists and slowly moved them apart, to Jackie's incredible shock Jade was overpowering him with sheer brute force, well brute force and Ki enhanced muscles.
"Jade!?" Breaking free of her Uncle's grasp Jade walked over to Shendu and raised the club in the air before slamming it down on the stone disk, repeatedly, smashing it to pieces. Shendu's spirit immediately appeared from the rubble and Jade responded by using the Soul Eater Weapon to snap down on him.
"Do you know what the sad part is? I never wanted this." Jade stated as she shrugged her shoulders. "I get the feeling that all those Good Chi Wizard's who sealed you guys away didn't either. That's why they didn't just kill the eight of you: They were being kind. They were being Patient. Maybe they even planned to let you guys out when you've finally learned your lesson." The Soul Eater Club gobbled down Shendu. "But patience has limits."
"I'll refine this bastard out of existence, we'll be able to get lots of reinforcements out of him." The weapon announced as it set to work.
"Just give it all to DD." Jade didn't want to explain that she's been working with someone who calls herself Demon Dragon all this time. Jade felt a hand on her shoulder, her uncle Jackie. "If you're going to give me a lecture, can it at least wait until I've dealt with those three? We still have a bunch of demons that we need to chase down."
"I'll wait until after I've heard your story." Jackie replied sympathetically. "You're not going to give me the 'it's too dangerous' lecture again?" Jade asked legitimately surprised.
"By the sounds of things you've already grown past that." Jackie stated letting out a sigh. "This isn't even the first time you've done something like this is it?"
"Not really no. The one behind the people that keep coming after me has this bad habit of modifying them in all sorts of troublesome ways." Jade explained and walked up to her next victim. "If you aren't at least this thorough with them, then they'll just keep coming back just like these guys!" And then Jade proceeded with the execution of three more of the demon sorcerers.
It was a long flight home. Jade told the members of her extended and found family everything that had been happening to her in the other world, and everything that she knew about what the threat was that she was trying to deal with. Wasn't it too dangerous? It was always too dangerous, it always was and it always will be. They've dodged five full blown apocalypses thus far and dozens of smaller ones over the years and if Jade wasn't there for her family then they would be dead fifty times over by now, and Jackie knew this. He knew this because once upon a time the three of them plus Dao Long Wong found a magical stone that created a real life clip show for their viewing pleasure and in that moment Jade saw a moment that decided the course of the rest of her life. Her uncle Jackie had been sent back to the day they met, the very moment that she first walked through the front door of Uncle's antique shop, and Jackie had picked up the phone on the counter intending for Jade to have never been put into danger by the various super natural threats that they had to deal with nor would have to deal with in the future, then at the moment that Jade's father's voiced echoed across the line Jackie hurriedly said wrong number, hung up and returned to the present.
In that moment her uncle had acknowledged Jade, acknowledged that he would be dead if not for her, that their world would've been destroyed if not for her, and Jade felt a indescribable feeling of pride from his decision on top of that, of being acknowledged. Now though? Now they had work to do, demons to chase down and all that.
At the end of the day they were demon sorcerers, even if there was only so few of them left, they had more than enough magic between them to raise some hell.
"Shendu, Po Kong, Tchang Zu and Dai Gui are dead." Tso Lan, the Moon Demon, had gathered his remaining siblings, nephew and new ally into his base of operations on the moon, an extreme measure he understood but best to be cautious. Not even the shadow Realm was safe, not when the Chan family can gain access to the base as easily as slapping a temporary tattoo sticker on their shoulder.
"Well this is a fine mess that we find ourselves in isn't it?" Bai Tza stated as she let out a sigh. "Almost half of our numbers have been eliminated already to that little brat, I still feel that blasted poison in my veins! KACK!" The watery demoness spat out a black glob of some kind out, still dealing with the poison Jade had hit her with. "We need to summon a dragon army in order to suppress-" Hsi Wu was slammed face first into the ground, not by the established gravity power of his brother Tso Lan, but rather by his nephew Drago.
"I don't know if you've noticed this or not, but we're outmatched." Drago released the grip on Hsi Wu. "Previously, our advantage has been that they couldn't kill us, but the rules have changed." He blamed his stupid father for this, why else take the talisman's for immortality and healing if he wouldn't have either naturally? Why the hell did he even take those two powers to begin with!? The rest of his siblings were able to handle graceful ageing for thousands of years, and until now none of the humans have even been able to hurt them! Until now that is. Even worst than that, if Jade ever decides to leave this world will become temporally locked again, meaning that they can't even wait for their primary most threat to leave of her own accord, so now they had been reduced to sitting here and waiting until Jade expired of her own accord, and hope that her bloody club doesn't choose a new wielder when she does. It would take decades for her to expire properly? What was that to the likes of them? "We are going to wait here for that little brat to disappear of her own accord so that we never have to deal with her again! Any objections?" Drago was now the strongest among the demon sorcerers, and with the deaths of his father and half of his relatives they now had no way of opposing his rule. Speaking of which, a familiar floating head soon revealed himself, Tarrakudo. "And here we have our ally, no doubt with the army that he promised us." Drago pointed out a hint of mockery in his voice.
"The Blunt Instrument Hero has my mask, doubtlessly inside of the weapon that she was using. I would be legitimately surprised if the same fate that your relatives suffered hasn't already happened to them."
Which meant that like Shendu the Oni Generals were gone for good, if any of them did survive it was quite likely that their power had been absorbed into one of the weapon's transformations already, which means that the Shadow Kahn were now beyond reach, even if one of his 'allies' used his mark.
"Then what good are you?" As Drago pondered what the ultimate fate of the Japanese demon the sound of clapping echoed throughout the base. As one the present demons turned to face the source of the clapping in question, a man who reminded the group of a monkey was slowly approaching them clapping his hands in open mockery. His body glowed, radiating a power that made them itch just looking at it while carrying a staff taller than he was on his shoulder.
"Who are you?" Xiao Fung asked while looking at the golden monkey with blatant suspicion.
"Just a foolish stable boy I'm afraid." The Monkey replied full of self depreciating humour. "This is a giant uninhabitable rock miles away from breathable atmosphere." Tso Lan snapped tapping the fingers of two of his hands with blatant annoyance. "If you're just a stable boy then we are but humble Sorcerers."
"Sorcerers?" The self-proclaimed stable boy broke out in laughter at the statement. "No. You're cockroaches. A plague to everything that you witness without the common courtesy to lay down and die when it's good for you!" Wukong's voice did not lose a single shred of humour, and yet despite the seriousness of his statement none of the demons could counter the monkey, his body had started radiating a powerful aura of good chi and killing intent. "Applause for the wise Demon Sorcerers everyone!" Wukong turned around and faced the darkness that he had come from. "For knowing when to run away some of the demon sorcerers have escaped with their lives!" Clapping echoed from the yawning darkness, Wukong having made countless clones of himself so that he could give the Demon Sorcerers an audience sized applause. "And for their reward! DEATH!"
Everyone acted at the same time, releasing powers of manipulating the elements, telekinesis and other magic spells as they attempted to strike back at the hundreds of Wukongs that had been gathered together. The Hundreds of Wukong's simultaneously used their combined Ruyi Jingu Bangs to strike at the remaining demons, not even Tarrakudo or Tso Lan with their telekinesis could counter the charging staffs, which grew, trapped them in a prison of Ki, before their forms shot back to the earth like a rocket. The Six demons hit the atmosphere, burned a little bit on the friction, before ultimately continuing on their way and crashing into the Sahara desert where Drago felt someone tapping him on the head.
"Hey Drago, Wazzup?" Jade asked smiling nastily while she was holding her club on her shoulder. Unlike the Good Chi wizards of old who merely irresponsibly sealed away the Demon Sorcerer's Jade and her family had opted for a more permanent solution. Because as much as chasing down demon crud has been fun for her, her family didn't want to have to keep doing this for the rest of their lives, nor did she want to have to raise her kids and their descendants to do it in her place when she was gone. Not Even her uncle Jackie could call her unreliable with a can do attitude like this.
