Hi there beautiful readers! :)

This is my first fanfiction EVER! I am Norwegian, so, sorry if I misspell something. As long as you understand what I am writing, I'm happy! :D Well, at least I hope you like my first chapter :) I'm very new to all this so please welcome me with open arms!

Happy reading. c:

...

16/09/2023:

I dunno if anyone will read this, but I'll try to explain everything anyways.

Okay, so I first started writing this fanfic back in 2016 when I was around twelve-thirteen years old and completely obsessed with jelsa and other non/disney-fandoms. I am now technically considered an "adult" (ew) and have graduated school and is now on my second year of university (mind that I am from Norway so things are different here than per se in America when it comes to the whole education-system). Over the years, when I was still writing, I got less and less motivated to continue this story. Mostly because life got in the way and I moved on to other things. Yet, I still find myself going back to my "Jelsa-phase" and I still read Jelsa-fanfics (mostly reread). Some of them are still being updated so that keeps me in the fandom, but I also am a huge sucker for nostalgia and cling on to my childhood as much as possible. From time to time I find myself going to my Pinterest-boards of Jelsa and other Disney fanarts and comics. I still rewatch the non/disney videos I've liked on YouTube, and I absolutely LOVE getting Frozen and Rise of the Guardians edits on TikTok and Instagram. So yeah, even if I stopped updating this story I was still (and am) part of the fandom.

I recently read "At the center" by therentyoupay on AO3 and how I've never discovered that fanfic over all my years of Jelsa-obsession is beyond me. I also realized just how much fanart to that one fanfic I've seen and saved on Pinterest before. After having read that fanfic I found my own here on and started reading through it. As I did so I could not help being bothered by the grammar mistakes and the awful writing - so I started fixing everything. I did so in some later chapters (which have already been updated): Chapters 21, 22 and 23 are good to go as of now. And I am currently planning on fixing the rest of them.

(I might also have gotten a few ideas for a completely new chapter, but we'll see how this goes first :P).

I don't think I'll keep on actively updating this fanfic besides fixing up the story (which I had planned and started to do YEARS ago), but I can't promise anything. The fact that I am even doing this now (5 years since the last update) proves that life is unexpected.

I'd also like to point out that the first few chapters may be shorter than the ones later on, as it's merely just a form of introduction to the main-plot of the story.

Anywho,

HAPPY READING! :D

Chapter 1: The beginning.

December 1825.

The princess ran up to the window and gazed out. The ground was covered in fresh white snow and the girl wanted to go outside and play in it.

The royal family of Arendelle was currently on a business trip in Denmark. They had arrived almost a week ago and the kingdom they were staying in had during the day been covered in meters of snow. Arendelle's eldest princess, Elsa, always liked to travel with her parents. It was her opportunity to see as much of the world as possible.

She ran away from the window and down the hallway towards the room she and her little sister was staying in. She grabbed her winter boots from her suitcase and put them on. She then ran out of the room, careful not to stumble and fall on her way out. When she reached the stairs, she took a hold of the railing and held on it tight as she rapidly walked down. On the last steps she hurried down a little faster because the maids and her father were calling her name, obviously trying to stop her from going outside alone. The seven-year-old princess giggled as she heard them getting closer.

''ELSA!''

The princess brought both hands to her face as she turned around and looked up at the top of the stairs as her father came into view and started running down after the squealing princess. Elsa turned back around and started running for the door, but didn't get too far as she got picked up.

Her father glared at her.

''Where do you think you're going?'' he demanded.

''Out in the snow!''

''Snow?''

''I want to play in the snow, papa,'' Elsa explained.

Her father looked over at the door then back at her. ''It starting to get dark out, aren't you scared of going out on your own?"

Elsa just shrugged. Not really.

''Is everything alright?'' a female voice asked from further down the hallway.

Agnarr turned towards his wife. ''Elsa wants to go outside and play in the snow.''

As Iduna got closer she brought a hand to her oldest daughter's neck, tickling her lightly. Elsa giggled. ''Is that right, my Little Starshine?'' Iduna asked, smiling softly.

Elsa nodded eagerly.

''But it's dark outside, you won't be able to see anything in the dark.''

The princess tilted her head to the side. She didn't really care about that.

"It is also almost time for you to go to sleep,'' Agnarr stated and ignored the frown on his daughter's face. ''And if you go outside now you won't get a bedtime story...''

Elsa squirmed in her papa's arms and he put her down on the floor and watched in amusement as she started her way back up the stairs.

''She's getting better at sneaking out,'' Iduna muttered and brought a hand to her forehead as she closed her eyes.

Agnarr chuckled, ''Guess it runs in the family.'' He nudged her side and together they walked the same way Elsa had just run.

In the guest room sat a newly bathed four-year-old Anna on a large bed.

"Where'd you go?" she asked her older sister, rubbing her tired eyes.

"It's snow outside so I wanted to go out and play," Elsa explained as she sat down on the floor and started prying off her winter boots.

"Without me?" Anna asked silently.

Elsa looked over at her sister. Anna's eyes were wide as she pouted, visibly upset that Elsa had left her behind.

"You were in the bath, Anna," Elsa began explaining. She was finally able to take of her boots as she flung them to the side and got up on her feet. "I would have gone back for you afterwards," she continued as she walked over to her sister. Anna's face broke out into a happy smile.

"What story are we reading this time, my dearests?'' Iduna asked her daughters as she and her husband made their way into the room.

Before Elsa could open her mouth to reply, Anna leapt up to her feet and started bouncing on the massive bed. "Santa Claus!" she shouted, beaming.

Agnarr chuckled, "again?"

It was the fourth time in a row now. It made sense though, it was only two weeks left until Christmas.

"I wanted the one about Jack Frost," Elsa muttered as she crossed her arms stubbornly. Agnarr picked her up and placed her on the bed next to Anna.

"Who's Jack Frost?" asked Anna as she slumped back down onto the bed. Due to the question, the royal family did not read a book about Santa Clause that night, but rather one about the spirit of winter.

It had been fifteen years since the battle between The Guardians and The Boogeyman. Jack Frost was currently doing his job as a guardian: spreading snow and fun all across the world. He liked his job. Liked having a purpose. It was also great that many more children was starting to believe in him too. He was no longer 'just an expression'. He felt like he could burst with joy just thinking about it.

Jamie was now in his mid-twenties, married to Pippa, who had been one of his best friends while growing up, and they were expecting their first child together. They lived in Jamie's childhood home in Burgess. His mother had wanted him to have it when she decided to move away from the city after the passing of her late husband.

Despite Jamie's father's death he was doing great. Him and Pippa still believed in the guardians and would frequently get a visit from the guardian of fun.

Despite it all, the fact that nothing bad had happened in so long worried Jack. He would sometimes get a weird feeling in his gut that told him something was soon going to happen. He started to feel like North.

Jack Frost didn't know if it was because of Pitch. If he was slowly coming back or something, but Jack told himself that it had taken the nightmare king centuries to build up his strength, so it more than unlikely that he would strike again so soon. But yet, the feeling just wouldn't go away.

He was currently flying across Europe at night, doing what Jack Frost did best during winter: Spreading as much frost and snow as possible.

It was a full moon that night and the Man in the Moon watched over the newest guardian as he flew across the night sky.

King Agnarr was helping his oldest daughter get ready for bed when he gazed out the window and his breath got caught by something. Elsa didn't notice and continued to stubbornly put on her nightgown. Her father had tried to help her, but she insisted on doing it herself. It didn't take long, however, before she gave up and tugged on her papa's pant-leg to get his attention.

''Papa?'' came a muffled voice from under the nightgown.

''Hmm?'' he hummed before looking down at his daughter. He held in a laugh as he bent down and helped her get her head through the gown. A messy head of platinum-blonde hair came out with one of the biggest grins ever.

The king of Arendelle chuckled and picked his daughter up and brought her closer to the window.

''You see the moon, Elsa?'' he asked

''Yes,'' she answered

''Do you see how it glows? How protective its light is—how safe it is?''

''It's just light,'' Elsa replied, not understanding what her father was on about.

''Light is what keeps you safe from the darkness, Starshine. Whenever you're scared just let a little light in and the shadows will fall behind you.'' He walked over to the one unoccupied bed in the room. He tucked Elsa safely under the covers after having placed her down.

Elsa grunted as she stuck her hand out, leaned over the edge of the bed and tried to reach for something underneath it.

Agnarr picked it up for her and gave his daughter her favorite stuffed animal, an owl, Sir Jorgenbjorgen. It had been a gift she had received on her third birthday from her grandma, Magda, who now lived in the warmer regions of Europe.

''Papa?''

''Yes?''

''Do you think Jack Frost is real?'' the princess asked her father.

Her blue eyes glowed as she stared at her father in anticipation. ''Of course,'' he answered. ''Who else brings all the snow during winter?''

''My tutor says that it's only the temperature. That when the Earth circulates around the sun, sometimes the weather gets colder, and the rain turns to snow...''

''Well, your tutor tries to find logic in places that sometimes doesn't really need it,'' Agnarr explained. "Not everyone believes in Jack Frost, just as some does not believe in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus—"

"The Easter Bunny and the Sandman," Elsa interrupted giddily.

Her father chuckled, "Right. Those kinds of people live very boring lives, don't you agree, Starshine?"

"Yes," Elsa replied before failing to stifle a yawn.

Agnarr brushed the bangs lovingly out of Elsa's eyes. "Believe whatever makes you happy, Elsa. Not everything needs to have a logic explanation behind it."

He kissed her forehead before stepping back from the bed. He looked at his other daughter, who was now snoring loudly in the other bed. His wife stood in the doorway, having already said her goodnights, and waited for him.

"Then I believe Jack Frost is real," Elsa mumbled before falling asleep.

The king and queen of Arendelle shared a smile as they exited the room and closed the door behind them.

Not too far away from the castle the spirit of winter flied across the dark sky and covered every window he came across in a layer of frost. He flied to a rooftop where he came to a halt and looked up at the bright moon.

He hesitated for a few seconds before he opened his mouth to speak, ''You know, I haven't really told the others, but I feel like something's going to happen soon.''

As usual the Man in the Moon did not answer him.

''I know these 'gut-feelings' are kind of North's thing, but I just—I can't stop thinking about it. I don't know if it's Pitch, if he's back or something. Just—can you tell me if you know something?''

The guardian gazed longingly up to the sky, grabbing his staff tightly with both hands.

When the moon yet again did not reply to him, he ruffled his hair in annoyance and scoffed.

''Look, I just need to know if my feeling is right, or if something dangerous is going to happen soon. If you tell me now, we, the Guardians, can probably do something fast about it before it's too late.''

No answer.

''You don't want the incident with Pitch repeat itself, right? We almost lost back then… It can happen—''

The wind knocked Jack Frost down from the roof before he could finish his sentence. Luckily for him he was able to catch himself with the help of his staff before he hit the ground. He was floating in the middle of the air before another strong gust of wind sent him flying through a window.

''What the—?''

He landed in a room with an ''oof'' and his staff got accidentally knocked out of his hand. The guardian groaned as he sat up on the floor. ''What's going on tonight?'' he whispered to himself, rubbing his forehead. He eyed the dark room, searching for his staff. It was lying near the door on the opposite side of where he sat on the floor. Jack quietly stood up, walked over and picked it up. When he turned around a child was standing in front of him. He nearly jumped out of his skin at the sight.

The child was staring up at him with her mouth hanging open. Jack frowned and crouched down in front of her. She grabbed one of his huge hands and her mouth turned upwards in a big smile.

''Can you see me?'' he asked in shock.

Elsa nodded, ''Yes.''
