Chapter I: The Journey Beyond.

It was Present Day, December 13th, 2019. Mabel Pines cries in her bedroom while looking at a picture of her and her twin brother, Dipper Pines, back when they were 12 and in Gravity Falls.

She had received the news from Dipper's wife and her childhood friend, Wendy Corduroy, that Dipper and their great-uncle Grunkle Stan were both missing.

Mabel reacted to the news with sadness, grief, and letdown, crying in her bedroom as a result of 2 of her own family gone missing. She adored her brother, but liked to annoy him.

Meanwhile, Mabel's pet pig, Waddles, sat beside her, oinking in confusion as to why she was crying.

"Waddles... Dipper has- has-", Mabel was able to stutter out, before returning to crying over the picture again.

"I will find you, Dipper. I-I promise.", Mabel would then say, before returning to crying a little more, feeling that she had let both her brother and great-uncle down. She wondered if she was going to see them again. And she hoped so.

She would then speak to Waddles with sadness still in her voice and eyes, "Waddles... I hope we find Dipper and Grunkle Stan. Because Dipper is my twin bro-bro... and I'd never let him or Grunkle Stan down.", she'd say to the pig right before she sniffled with tears still visible in her eyes.

She would then feel her phone ring, and try to regain her composure. She saw who was calling; it was Wendy.

"Hey, Mabel.", Wendy sweet voice came over the phone's speakers. "When are you going to come back to Gravity Falls? We are looking for Dipper and Grunkle Stan here...", she'd say, before Mabel told her that she was coming back.

"I'm coming back, Wendy. I should meet you tomorrow morning at 8 AM at the airport.", Mabel would say, almost confidently. She was 18 years old, slowly approaching 19, in college, and making new friends. But, she always had one best friend by her side, her younger twin brother, Dipper, whom she liked to annoy a lot, but still adored him like the great boy he was.

"Alright, Mabel. Pacifica is here too... she's worried.", Wendy would say, before Mabel returned a response. "Thanks, Wendy.", Mabel would say before hanging up.

"I only hope that when we find them, Dipper won't hate me... and I hope Grunkle Stan won't hate me as well.", Mabel would say to Waddles as she started to pack for her trip, back to Gravity Falls, the place she adored and had been to for over 100 times. But now, she was worried that she may never see her bro-bro or Grunkle Stan again. She didn't want to live with that mistake for the rest of her life, she thought, scared in her mind.

"I must not think of failure... but of luck.", Mabel would say to herself, knowing that she would find her brother among those green plains of Gravity Falls, Oregon. She knew that if she thought of failure, she would never find her beloved twin brother and great-uncle.

And so, she picked up Waddles, and her bags, put them into her 1990 Mercury, and held Waddles as she drove to Piedmont Airport, ready to return to Gravity Falls, brave, confident, but most of all: determined to find her twin brother and great-uncle.

She would never let her spirit down, and most of all she wouldn't let her friends or family down in her search.

She would die to find Dipper and Grunkle Stan, praying that they were safe each night. But now, that was all in the past. She didn't want to let the past go, but she had to. Otherwise... she would fail her ultimate goal.

So, she waited for her plane to arrive at the airport, to return to the place she loved most when she was a child: Gravity Falls, Oregon.

She arrived at that airport she adored: the Piedmont Airport. She had only been on an airplane 3 times, but she liked it, even when the engines popped her ears.

But, she had Waddles with her, and her beloved pet pig was put into the cargo hold with the other animals, vice versa.

She sat down near the front of business class, as it was a private Boeing 737, ready to head to Gravity Falls.

Once the plane took off, a man sat down next to her, a military-looking man, with his face blocked by a black fedora.

"Well, you must be Mabel Pines.", the man said.

"Yes, I am.", she said with a slight smile.

"I know your twin brother, Mabel. But I knew you wouldn't recognize me, since we haven't seen each other in a while.", the man would continue to say.

"Who are you?", Mabel would say, afraid it was a stalker.

But, he took his Fedora off, revealing himself to be one of Mabel's old friends from a while back, before and after the great times at Gravity Falls.

"Mabel. It's been a while.", Lieutenant Colonel David Harrison would say to Mabel, fully revealing his face.

"David... it has been a long while, indeed.", Mabel would say in both shock and surprise.

"Yes... I heard about Dipper going missing and I decided to help after Wendy called me and notified me of it. I have my squad in Gravity Falls now. The nearest airport is in Rothlin, so we'll take about 20 minutes to get to Gravity Falls, as it has no airport, besides a private helipad my squad uses.", Lieutenant Colonel Harrison would then say.

"Well, I guess that's alright.", Mabel would then say with confidence in her eyes. "Well, at least we have enough time to sleep."

"Yes. We do have about an hour left until we get there. I'll introduce you to the squad when we get to Gravity Falls.", Harrison would say.

"My squad is known as the Cardigan Squadron, named after my cousin, General John Cardigan. He was a good soldier... until he retired to be an ambassador for the UN. I don't know where he is now... but I hope he can help us with Dipper's search, if I can contact him.", Harrison would then say again, hoping to find his cousin and ask him for help.

"David. I hope and I will believe we WILL find Dipper, and bring him home. I just hope and pray that he's safe somewhere... as he's my brother, I will forever love him, but I only pray that we can find him and Grunkle Stan.", Mabel would say in a teary-eyed manner, before controlling herself.

"I only hope too, Mabel. But now, let's just wait until this flight is over. I always liked planes, especially the paratrooper ones...", Harrison would say before writing into a journal, which he kept as his Secret Diary, unbeknownst to Mabel.

Harrison would then write in his diary; "The 13th of December, 2019. I'm currently on a plane, with my friend, Mabel Pines, who's hoping for me to help her look for her brother and my friend, Dipper, and her great-uncle. As per usual for my friends, I will help them out with everything. We will keep our plan intact and away from the prying eyes of the corrupt politicians in Portland. One thing must be corrected for sure; the end of corruption in this damned world is near over."

After the plane landed in Rothlin, Harrison quickly got Mabel up, and got her luggage for her, while she got Waddles, who was oinking greatly.

"Waddles, you're still cute!", Mabel said, trying to make herself happy, while still quietly worrying for Dipper and Grunkle Stan, closing her eyes, before fighting back a tear, and getting into a car, Harrison's Cadillac Escalade. But now, it was time to return... to Gravity Falls.
