Even If You Crash

Summary: Fix-it fic regarding Adam and Kurt.

AN: So this is not the Kudam story I've alluded to and don't worry Kurtbastian is still my go-to right now but I really wanted to write this. It may be a stand-alone one shot or I might expand it into a series. I haven't decided. The Kudam story I want to write is less concerned with Blaine and I wanted to avoid this but at the same time, I kind of want to do a fix-it for all the scenes where Blaine interrupted them. These won't necessarily be in canonical order nor necessarily connected. I think to write the Kudam story I wanted to then I have to write this one first. I'll leave this open for future installments

All We See Is Love

The dark sedan with tinted windows pulled up to the church's entrance. It idled there for a long time without movement seen within nor any indication that someone was going to get out.

There was a tap on the window giving very little warning before the door was wrenched open and the woman holding the door had her mouth open, ready to speak but hesitated. The sight inside was not what was expected. "Oh, Blaine said he was going to ride over with you." She spoke with the male sitting closest to her side.

"As you can see, he's not here." Kurt reached for the door. "And I need a moment."

"Yeah, ok, but this conversation is not over and the ceremony is going to start soon."

"Right, yes, of course." Kurt tugged on the door. "But later, Mercedes."

She let him close the door and once they were back in the privacy of the interior of the car, Kurt took a deep steadying breath. He had not planned on being confronted so unexpectedly or soon. A large warm hand settled over his shoulder. "She's one of your best friends. Let her support you."

Kurt glanced over to his seatmate and offered a thankful smile. "I know, and I will, I just... I need a moment to gather myself. Now that we're here, it's all coming at me so quickly and intensely."

"Do you want me to hang back? I can go back to your house and wait for you there."

"Don't you dare." Kurt breathed a little more harshly than he'd meant. "You're going to be right at my side the whole time. You're my eye-candy trophy." He managed to save his tone and make it sound like he meant it, teasingly.

"Wow, I've been upgraded to two objects of desire." Adam teased right back and let his hand slide down Kurt's arm until he could slip his fingers through Kurt's. "I'm going to be wherever you need me. Just direct me."

"You're doing a good job on your own." Kurt gave a wobbly smile but it was stronger than before. "I'm feeling better, this is right where I want you." He leaned forward and kissed Adam's cheek. "Thank you."

"Before we go, I know we've had all the time in the world to ask but it never seemed to be the right time, nor did you seem receptive to hearing the question, but why are you even here in the first place? From what you've told me, the couple hadn't exactly been supportive or even decent people."

"The bride was." Kurt gave a bit of a head bob as he reassessed his words. "Well, at times she was." Adam waited patiently for him to answer the bigger question that had been asked. "Supporting others who have to be here. My dad was elected with Schue's help, supposedly, and so he's here to return the favor, standing up for him. Even though I shut the door in her face- shit, I have to apologize for that- Mercedes is here and asked me to be in her corner. I don't know why she feels the need to be here other than as a good person."

"So you're here because of your dad and for Mercedes?" Adam summarized and Kurt nodded. "Got it. Is everyone else fair game then?"

"Well, not Finn, he's been kind of lost recently and I don't want to upset him further and I suppose we have to deal with Santana and Rachel when we get back to New York, but yeah, everyone else is at your mercy."

"Hmm, I look forward to it." Adam seemed so mild mannered but Kurt knew there was more to him than his easy-going affability. He still had no idea what Adam would do or say or how he'd go about it. He knew how he would have dealt with people who hurt one of his friends, he'd done so in the past.

With one last squeeze of their hands, Kurt reopened the door and was pleased to find Mercedes waiting patiently for him. She pulled him into a fierce hug when he alighted from the car and he let her wrinkle his suit as he hadn't realized how much he needed this contact. His arm that wasn't attached to Adam's wrapped around her tightly in return.

"Hey Boo." She finally whispered and let him go a little to run her fingers through his hair and resetting it. "It's been too long since I last saw you in person."

"It really has been." Kurt agreed, moving in for another hug, one she returned. "We have so much to catch up on that has been too hard to share over the phone."

"Like this new beau?" She peered over Kurt's shoulder at Adam who smiled a bit ruefully.

"Not totally new." He countered, his dad had met him already.

"New enough to not warn me he was coming or to even know of his existence." Mercedes chided but it was Adam who answered her.

"But not so new that it's wrong to invite me to a wedding several states away." Although some people invited others only to be a wedding date, no matter the distance.

"You knew of his existence." Kurt cut in. "This is Adam."

Mercedes took a moment to assess Adam as she tried to place the name. "The pro?"

Kurt choked while Adam snorted. "Professional actor?"

"That was Brody and that was Rachel who was seeing him, not me." Kurt moved toward Adam but he was now holding Mercedes' hand as well and swung it a little, hoping she'd come to the memories on her own. "Oh... the musical theater kid." Mercedes' answer was as good as anyone listening to context clues. "The Apples!" Ok, so she'd done some research into her memory archives. Kurt nodded in response and she beamed at Adam. "Your group is a perfect mix of the two Glee clubs he'd been in in high school."

"Well, I'm hoping even better than that." Adam looked uncomfortably toward Kurt, having heard some of the stories.

"Much better, far more balanced and fair certainly." Kurt wrapped his arm around Adam's waist now and looked toward Adam's face. Adam leaned in slightly to give him a kiss, they were pretty much the same height. Mercedes watched on with fascination.

"Boy..." She started but then decided against whatever she was saying, looking at Kurt's happy face. "You just better treat him right."

"And that is the best stamp of approval one can hope for from Mercedes Jones." He tossed her another one of his smiles and Mercedes responded in kind.

"Couldn't dream of doing anything else." Adam's voice was soft and slid along Kurt like a warm coat.

"Likewise." Kurt said for Adam's ears alone.

"Now that we've got that settled, we now have to decide if we're on the bride's or the groom's side." They all shared a look and it was an easy answer, the three of them answered as one. The bride's.

It came as no surprise that once they were seated and could look around that Rachel and Blaine sat up near the front on the groom's side whereas the three of them sat a respectable distance back. Rachel caught their eye and frowned over at them in disapproval and made it clear she thought they were traitors. Finn sat a few rows behind those two, still weary of being near Rachel and in solidarity with Kurt over Blaine, though he probably wanted to be closer for Schue.

Santana and Brittany slid into the seats ahead of them and Rachel's scowl deepened. Santana made a face back even as Brittany waved innocently at them. Then she turned and rested her arm on the back of the pew between the two of them and tossed a smile in their direction, it was a bit too shark-like with teeth to be appropriate, especially for this venue. "Want to wager whether or not this farce will pull through?"

"They're genuinely in love with one another." Mercedes chided, too religious to let Santana get away with saying something like that in a church, even if it wasn't her church.

"I'll take that bet as long as I can take the side that it will all end in a comical disaster." Kurt got an elbow to his ribs from Mercedes and only after his pained oof did she apologize for how hard she hit. Adam circled his arm around Kurt, blocking him from further blows as much as possible.

"Can I claim that it will be a sad sack of an ending?" Santana wondered and sliced Mercedes a look. "We already know that you're on the side that this will end in happily ever after, you don't need to try to convince us to take your position."

"I love fairy tale endings." Brittany said with a content little igh.

"Oh, right, Brit, this is the Brit, Adam."

"Britadam?" Brittany frowned. "We'll have to change that, it's hard enough having Brittney steal my name."

Santana's face went from suspicious and guarded, waiting to pounce on Adam for saying the wrong thing to begrudgingly accepting of just how good and kind he was. "What if we just went with Adam then?" There might have been a bit of admiration there too.

"You talk funny." Brittany said in response. "Like those guys that Kurt watches on Saturday nights. The ones with the silly clothes."

Adam arched a brow and sent the look toward Kurt. "Doctor Who." Kurt clarified.

"Ah." Adam's smile grew and he turned back to Brittany. "They do look silly, don't they? But they're also a lot of fun."

Brittany nodded in agreement and turned back around as others started sitting near them, but no one else from the Glee team joined them. "I'm sure Kurt finds you lots of fun too."

Kurt blushed deep red but Brittany missed it and Santana only smirked knowingly at him. Mercedes was blushing a little too but didn't say anything in fear of them elaborating with details she didn't want to hear.

The ceremony was supposed to start at 1 but it was nearly 2 and then it was 2:30 and there was a deep discussion going on. An announcement was made that there would be an announcement forthcoming when the doors suddenly burst open and Sue was in a bridal gown of white. Santana forked over the money she owed Kurt. "I almost won."

"Almost doesn't count Lopez." Kurt pocketed the money, having a clear idea what he was going to do with it. "As you've keenly reminded me time and time again."

"You two are horrible, don't you see how distraught he is?" Mercedes chided but Santana and Kurt only looked over their former Glee instructor and shrugged.

"Hard to tell with all that gel holding his hair so hard that his face is immobile." Santana quipped.

"He's always sad looking, it's getting hard to tell the degrees from him." Kurt added.

"Sue's so funny." Brittany added watching Schue and Sue dice it out at the front of the room. "They have a fun couple name."

Kurt wondered what was going to happen next, they'd all been dragged from their respective corners of the earth to this 'not-wedding'. He leaned into Adam, keeping his voice low and his mouth near Adam's ear. "Should we call a taxi and get our night started a little earlier than planned?"

Adam made a small sound that he quickly tried to hide, having known Santana for long enough to know that any weakness would be mercilessly raked across the hot coals for all to witness. "God yes." He turned his head to speak in Kurt's ear in return and they shared a wicked smile.

Just as they were about to subtly escape the chaos around them, Mr. Schue took the microphone. A majority of the people stayed in their seats but a few milled about.

"You're all here and the reception has been paid for. Might as well have some enjoyment from today to reflect back on. I'll try to join everyone later."

Kurt thought about skipping it but this was also a chance to reconnect with old friends and classmates. Besides, he did owe Mercedes a spin out on the dance floor and she was already claiming a dance with Adam too. They could gossip about her hottest buzz of late. She was providing backing vocals with a very hot talent and word was spreading about the new and fresh face. She was making waves and Kurt couldn't be happier for her.

He was glad she was taking so well to Adam so quickly, especially after she'd already seemed to accept that Kurt would be making out with Blaine in the back seat of the rental so quickly. He supposed he owed her an explanation of why things ended with Blaine other than 'Blaine couldn't hack being in a long distance relationship'. He'd thought that had been a pretty generous explanation but Mercedes and a lot of other people took his words too lightly. They'd been broken up for months, no matter what had driven them apart, they weren't just going to jump each other first chance they got. He had never been like that. He'd always respected other people's boundaries, maybe a hint, nod or tap on their shoulder, but he never pushed beyond what was considered acceptable in most circles. It was even more important because his had been crossed far too often.

He really appreciated that about Adam. He had made his interest known but had let Kurt approach him with anything more. He had always made it clear that he was willing to go along with pretty much anything as long as it involved Kurt, but Kurt would have to be the one to verbalize it and ask. It could have made for a very lopsided relationship but it was what Kurt had needed and they were both thriving in it. And it wasn't like Adam waited for Kurt to ask him to kiss him every time, once the permission was granted, he took advantage of it freely until it was revoked. Kurt hadn't revoked it yet.

They knew where both stood and it was a very open dialogue relationship. It made a very nice change of pace for Kurt and really, for those around him too. Since he no longer had anything to hide, he wasn't as guarded and careful when talking to the others. His dad had really appreciated the change. As long as they didn't ask about Blaine, he didn't close off anymore, he had no reason to.

Kurt sighed when he accepted that he was going to have to attend the reception and shifted a little uncomfortably. Adam leaned in again and his lips brushed against Kurt's ear, sending a thrill down his spine. "The wait will only make things more urgent."

Kurt gave a small laugh as he hadn't expected that particular line, Adam always surprised him with changing the expected just enough. "You have no idea." He added back and slid his fingers carefully along Adam's inner thigh, nothing scandalous but Adam still took in a sharp breath even as Kurt's fingers left him.

Santana and Brittany were collaborating their plan of action and Mercedes was wiping at her cheeks, so all missed their interaction. "Are you really that sad?" Kurt asked her with a small nudge against her shoulder with his.

"No, it's just it always makes me sad when weddings and marriages don't work out." She admitted. "These two, despite everything, did really love each other."

"Yeah..." Kurt frowned. "But I think she was better off with the dentist, just a lot cleaner of a man."

"And he probably shouldn't have left Terry." They all shuddered at the memory of the first wife, Santana and Brittany overhearing that line. Adam only looked on in confusion. Kurt didn't talk a ton about his past, just enough for Adam to know all the important players and a general, very general overview of events with a few anecdotes filtered in. There was too much that had happened those years to share over the couple of months they'd been together. He doubted he remembered everything too, a lot of things had happened outside of him and his personal world. Which is why it was always interesting when Rachel, Santana or Mercedes brought up something he either clean forgot about or just didn't know happened to begin with. Even if they shared a lot of their time together, they still had things that they were doing outside of the others.

Adam wrapped his arm around Kurt's shoulders and speared Santana a look. "Off to the lion's den?"

She laughed at the callback and flashed her teeth at him. "You survived me, you will probably be fine." She looked between them and her smile grew wider. "Just be careful to steer clear of Puck. He's gotten protective over young Hummel."

Kurt rolled his eyes. "Puck will accept Adam."

It turned out Puck wasn't the problem.

Blaine wasn't a surprise but those who took his side so steadfastly were a bit harder to swallow. Kurt had thought he meant more to them, that their relationship was stronger than that.

First it was Rachel, but her's was pretty mild in comparison to the other things flung at him that night. It was still annoying though, how she lobbied it at Kurt. Thankfully, it wasn't a criticism directed solely at him,but the entire group that had sat on the bride's side.

"This is all your fault. She probably looked in and saw the split allegiances and took it as a sign or you cursed the wedding by your blatant lack of respect-"

"Woah, Rachel-" Adam tried to intervene but she kept talking.

Kurt shook his head at his boyfriend while simultaneously rolling his eyes. "If she saw us sitting on her side then she would have been happy to know we were supporting both of them and her personally, it was a shared love of the two and as a whole group we supported them by filling the entire church, not just his side." He maintained his allegiance was with Emma and it always would be.

"She probably took your separation from Blaine, unable to even sit by him for the wedding as an omen-."

"Nope, you and Frodo couldn't find a way to get the Jolly Green to sit near you, that's an even more of a sign. Kurt at least brought a real date." Santana cut in, it was always easier for them to attack Kurt than each other but they thankfully didn't always direct it at him, that they went after each other too sometimes. When they went after each other it was a bloody fight but when they went after Kurt, they usually went for his jugular. It always made it that much more interesting when they were the fiercest defenders of him at times too.

Sometimes he wondered why he was still friends with either of them then remembered those closest to you had the best weapons to hurt you with, it was just the risk you took for love. Sometimes you got rewarded with that risk – Mercedes, Burt, Finn, Adam, Brittany and sometimes you got hurt – Blaine, Santana, Rachel and a few others.

Kurt and Adam left those two to duel it out, Brittany was there to help mediate, and she would if she felt like it was needed. They weren't needed now that those two were going at it with the ones they really wanted to demean.

Heading deeper in to the room, Kurt got pulled to the dance floor by Quinn. He tossed an apologetic look toward Adam who smiled back in support. Adam really would be fine on his own, he'd come all the way over to America on his own and had carved out a niche for himself, even created his own flourishing team who stood staunchly in his corner against all who intended to harm him. Kurt was right there with them, he was so deserving of it, kind, calm, patient, hot, funny, supportive.

He danced with Quinn and then a few of the other, younger, Glee kids who were still in high school but he'd gotten to know before he left Lima. They had a curfew and would be heading out before the rest of them. He turned to find Adam but he was dancing with Mercedes and they moved well together. Hell, Adam just moved well and Mercedes did too and together they looked good. He didn't go up and interrupt them, instead he was going to grab a drink and then just enjoy the view.

He was at the drinks table when Tina was suddenly at his elbow and grabbing at the cups before Kurt could and then was cutting in front of him to pour her drink. It was very reminiscent of a high school party with a lemonade and punch bowls. Tina's behavior matched the environment. He held up his hands and let her do her thing. He didn't get where this animosity was coming from.

It didn't take long to learn what her problem was though as she more than happily divulged it to him without being asked. "How dare you treat Blaine the way you have? He hasn't deserved your ill treatment and to bring your new boytoy to our teachers' wedding? It's just despicable! You've really shown your true colors these days, you've just devastated him and he's been so sad since you broke his heart."

"Woah, woah, woah." Kurt turned to her. "That's a lot of baseless accusations you've flung at me Tina. Have you just let your imagination run rampant or has Blaine been feeding you these lies?"

"He's been closed mouth about what happened." She allowed but she was still glaring at him. Kurt was very close to disabusing her of her fantasy when she spoke again. "You couldn't even be bothered to check in with him when he was really sick. I was with him the whole time, nurturing him back to health with vaporub and chicken soup. It was touch and go and you didn't even reach out once to see why he didn't text you that day or week. I was very disappointed in you."

"Blaine and I broke up." Kurt said coldly. "I needed space and I thought he was trying to respect that, which is why at Thanksgiving I was a bit more receptive to him reaching out to try and make amends. It's clear now that he only gave me space because he was sick, otherwise he wouldn't have listened to my requests yet again." Kurt reflected on everything with a new lens. "It's also not my fault that you've fallen in love with a gay boy that you've known was gay since the first day you met him. You and Rachel have some serious issues trying to convert him. He's not bi." He wasn't even interested in Unique, Kurt was the most feminine version of a man that he'd be into. The thing with Rachel had just been odd and maybe some internalized hopes. Once he'd accepted the truth about himself fully he'd never even looked at a woman again except to appreciate their aesthetic value and value as a human being.

"Don't spin this around on me. You're the one who seriously hurt him-"

"He cheated." Kurt sliced in there and she paused but only long enough to take a breath and continue her tirade.

"You must have been distant and given him reason to think it was over. He probably thought you were over and was trying to move on and you're just twisting it to make yourself appear better."

"We had plans for 2 weeks after he cheated. He was supposed to come out and spend the weekend with me. I was in love with him, just busy."

"There's no way, my Blainey-bear would never-"

"Enough, Tina, I'm done with this conversation. You've made up your mind that I'm the villain of this story even though we were once really good friends and have seen all the things I've been through and should know me better than this."

"I thought I did-"

Kurt just walked away from her mid-sentence. It had been bad enough when Blaine had laid the blame at his feet for his actions but this was ridiculous. He spotted Sam and thought his absentee housemate might be a good palate cleanser. He'd moved in with Burt and Carole before Kurt moved to New York and they'd been close, close enough for Sam to visit them in New York, but when Kurt came back this weekend with Adam, he had yet to see Sam.

"Wanna dance?" He asked his one-time crush, hand on Sam's arm.

Sam moved uncomfortably, jostling Kurt's hand from him as he looked around, saw Tina glaring at them and quickly looked away. Kurt's stomach sank as he had a feeling he knew how this was going to go down. "Sorry man, I better not." They had a few more weeks of school and he couldn't blame Sam from not wanting to deal with the fallout for those remaining hours. Things may get better when they all graduated and he wasn't forced to see their faces in the halls and work with them to achieve whatever they were working on or against the rest of the derisive students. It would have been too much to ask of Sam to lose some of his support system who'd been there when the jocks turned on him. It would have been full circle in the other way.

While he'd love to just drop the bomb that Blaine was the cheater and walk away, he couldn't do that to Sam. "Yeah, ok, see you at the house tomorrow." Kurt walked away, feeling hollow and disappointed. He felt more like a pariah now than he had ever felt when attending McKinley as the only gay kid.

He watched Adam dance with Quinn, something he hadn't thought would be something he'd ever witness 4 years ago but she had come a long way and accepted Adam easily. That sight made him feel just a bit better and a small smile cracked his lips. The image of Adam in front of him would have achieved a similar reaction but Quinn's acceptance mended some piece of him that was a little tattered.

A large arm dropped over his shoulders and he was hugged into a warm side and he glanced up at his younger brother who looked down at him with a wide welcoming smile. Another piece returned to it's place inside him, held in together with permanent glue. "Want to dance?" He asked and Kurt had another reminder of how far they'd all come. The things with Sam and Tina were petty and had nothing to do with hatred of what Kurt stood for but with Kurt himself, it was normal drama and he was glad for the normalcy even as he hated the misunderstanding.

"That would be nice." Finn spun him out onto the dance floor and they did different moves, Kurt commending Finn on his dance lessons paying off. Finn didn't go anywhere when the slower song started. Kurt couldn't help but grin at his bigger brother as they moved around the dance floor. Everyone had taken Finn's side in the break up too, and Kurt wondered if it was just easier to be mad at those who were farther away, it was certainly safe. In Rachel and Finn's case, it really was no one's fault and both of their fault at the same time. Finn had basically broken up with Rachel as he sent her away and then disappeared without a trace for months.

Even if Rachel had been in Lima when it happened, nobody would have taken her side but they all would have caved to her in the end. Rachel and Blaine were dancing near them and in Finn's eyeline, but then again he had a clear bird's eye view of everything around them. Blaine and Rachel kept glancing over at them.

"How can you stand Rachel being so buddy-buddy with your ex?" Rachel lived with Kurt, which made it even odder to Finn.

"I get to be friends with both of you, it would be pretty hypocritical to stop her."

"Ours is more complicated, you're my brother and her roommate and it wasn't so cut and dry of a breakup. It was clearer with you and Blaine and should have been an obvious choice and I'd like to think you'd somehow manage to move out if it really was a bigger problem between her and me."

"They have an unique connection. I'd like to think if I asked, she would have split ties with him."

"You shouldn't have to ask." Finn pointed out and Kurt sighed, Santana had made that point pretty clear as well, especially when she'd told Blaine off in front of Kurt and Rachel and tossed Rachel a pointed look. Santana, unlike Rachel, didn't even know that Blaine cheated, though he suspected she'd figured it out. Finn was more offended for Kurt's sake than Kurt was.

"As long as she doesn't invite him to move in, I think I'll be fine. He's going to NYADA next year after all, I'll have to get used to seeing him around."

"That school is nuts to let him in and not you at first and it's a load of bullshit that you have to put up with all of it."

"They did let me in and I'm grateful to be learning from them." Rachel had choked but still got in, she'd also been outshone at the Winter Showcase and Midnight Madness by him and yet she had been the one given the golden ticket. Whatever, she was Veruca Salt and he was Charlie Bucket. He got a golden ticket too through luck and hard work and in the end, he'd be walking away with the fantasy. He'd already shown he could pass all the tests thrown at him. Ok, so maybe he wasn't as humble as Charlie, but the analogy still fit. Blaine was just Mike Teavee and his arrogance would get the best of him.

The song ended and Finn was mollified by Kurt's answer even if it didn't clear either of their saltiness of it. Kurt was going to excuse himself to find his dad and chat before he left, Burt had text him that he had offered his condolences and was going to head out. He had to get back to D.C. on Sunday and the only flight out was earlier than he wanted when his son was visiting. Kurt wanted to reassure him that they'd be seeing each other again soon and say goodnight. They'd have proper goodbyes in the morning but Kurt and Adam were originally planning to stay out pretty late and had booked a hotel room.

His hand was taken though by a familiar grip and he turned his head, already resigned to who he was going to see, he felt Finn stiffen next to him. "A dance, Kurt? Please?"

Finn was about to argue but Kurt put his non-occupied hand on his chest. He'd have to catch up with his dad later, the older Hummel was already heading toward the door, not wanting to disrupt the youngsters' fun. "Just one." He agreed to and ignored Finn's protest, he had to get this over with since he knew it was going to come up eventually.

It was another slow song which allowed Blaine to open his mouth and put his foot in it and was clearly heard by Kurt. "You're so mean to me." Blaine complained as he wrapped his arms around Kurt. "But don't worry, I see right through it, you're trying to get me jealous and get back at me. I just thought we were passed this Kurt."

Kurt tried to put some distance between them since Blaine wanted to have his conversation now of all times. Blaine tightened his arms, afraid Kurt would leave. Kurt didn't want to cause a scene so didn't struggle, they were in public with friends on both sides around them. He was fine. "Adam isn't a tool, he's my boyfriend and we're quite happy together."

"You're the one to use that word, not me, but if the term fits."

"Boyfriend? Yes, it is a very appropriate word for the two of us."

"See, I knew it." Blaine smiled cheekily and Kurt couldn't be sure if it was an intentional misunderstanding.

"Not you and me, Adam and me." Kurt tried to clarify. "He's who I'm with."

"For now."

"Until we're not but I don't see it going that way." Kurt and Adam were even flirting with the idea of moving in together but it was still pretty early and there were logistics to work out. Besides, Kurt didn't want to give Blaine any fuel.

"You'll see, next year when I'm in NY, you'll come back to me." Blaine said it like it was inevitable.

"Fat chance, mate. By next year I'll be so far under his skin, I'll be etched into his bones and you won't have a chance in hell." Adam wrapped an arm around Kurt's shoulders which made it quite a close space between the three of them. Kurt reached under Blaine's arm to place his hand on the small of Adam's back, his choice clear.

Once upon a time, he might have thought of Blaine as an addiction, one that he tried to quit but could be seduced back into taking, just a single hit and he could be strong to fight him off again but would be pulled under quickly. Adam, with his words, reminded Kurt that while Blaine might have been that, addicts could quit and hold strong and Adam was his skeleton system, holding him up and supporting him but would be nothing without Kurt's muscles keeping it together, muscles that only grew stronger with use. Every day he was stronger against Blaine's pull, it was easier to say no the more he said it.

"Bugger out English-man." Blaine said with the most offensive British accent. "This doesn't concern you."

"I will not bugger out, as you've so succulency put it. It is in poor form to hit on another man's date, much less make such brash assumptions. And I will state quite clearly for you once more, he is with me. So it is indeed my business."

"He was mine first."

"First doesn't mean last nor even current. Things change, things come to an end and you have to accept and move on."

"I'll always hold a special place in his heart, I'll always be present, tainting your relationship with our memories."

"Of the good as well as the bad, I am sure, but I have my own exes and memories of them and if for some reason your prediction comes true, you'll have to contend with memories of me and I assure you, you will not measure up. I am not threatened by your past with my boyfriend, but you would be, especially as that choice of yours will always hang over you like the sword of Damocles, whereas I would never be foolish enough to make that kind of mistake."

"You're not perfect, you'll hurt him and you'll break up."

Adam just looked at Blaine with that infinite patience he seemed to possess but he was not a push over and while not outright intimidating, Blaine knew better than to threaten him physically. Adam looked like he could his own, despite his seemingly upper echelon of English society appearance. "If that day ever comes, I know he is strong enough to not fall back into your arms." Adam turned his head toward Kurt. "Ready to head out, love?"

Blaine grew angry at the endearment, not realizing that it wasn't exactly the way Blaine had taken it, Adam had always called him that and it wasn't reserved to just Kurt. Some of the girls in their group were tagged with the endearment, even Santana got it once in awhile from Adam.

Kurt only played into the misconstruction. "I'm ready to go back to our room, love, we've got better things to do and I'm tired of waiting, it's been too long since this morning." If Kurt hurt Blaine, just a little, then he wasn't sorry, maybe he'd finally understand and accept it, they were over.

Kurt had moved onto someone much, much better and he was finally happy and secure in a relationship. There were no games, there was just trust, care and excitement. Kurt wanted to show Adam just how much he meant to him. "And that earlier conversation about next year? I think I've come to the conclusion that you've been hoping for."

"Really?" Adam didn't even glance at Blaine, far too invested in what Kurt had to say.

"Yep." Adam whooped and lifted Kurt up into his arms. "Let's go celebrate that privately."

Neither looked back at Blaine's stormy face as they left. He had Tina and Sam to console him while they had a future to plan. They only thought of each other the rest of the night and weekend, until they were on a plane back with Rachel and Santana to New York. Even that couldn't break apart their good mood and the others wanted to know what the deal was, but neither wanted o hear it from them until the last possible moment. They'd just have to learn how to get on the two of them without Kurt playing center field. He was going to be someone's center of existence now for all the right reasons.

EAN: Do you know what I just realized when writing this ^, I always joked about Kurt becoming the main character over time but that may have been true the whole time. Kurt's personal life (house, family, etc) were explored far more than anyone else. I get part of that was because his dad and Finn's mom got together so we got to see 2 characters, but even then, Carole seemed a bit less present in the scenes than Burt. Rachel's were in it so rarely that they thought they could get away with a recast and Santana's and Brittany's were only the later seasons. We followed Kurt a lot more when he wasn't at school than the rest of them. Or maybe that's just my memory of the show. I have only watched it through once (1st/2nd/3rd season x2) and went back to only a few episodes otherwise several times.
